(The Owl House X Sonic the Hedgehog)
Chapter 11: Caution, Destruction Zone Ahead!
Sonic walks through the Marketplace along with Luz and King, he holds a bag of bought goods.
Sonic sighs and looks at Luz, "Why did Eda make me go on an Apple run?"
Luz shrugs, "It's probably because you ate her apples."
King looks up at Sonic, "Yeah, Eda really likes her apple blood."
Sonic groaned, "Yeah, probably wasn't good to eat all those apples, I feel sick." Sonic looked at Luz, who sighed and held her head down. "Hey, what's up with you?" Sonic asks.
Luz looked at Sonic, "I just have a bad feeling about something. I mean, I haven't seen Amity anywhere for the past few days, and none of the staff has said anything about repairing the plant trek classroom."
Sonic shrugged, "Maybe Amity just caught up in that boring family stuff she told us about. I don't think you should worry yourself, and besides we already have four emeralds, so I think we'll be fine."
Luz nods, then looks up, "yeah, you're probably right." Luz, Sonic, and King walked further into the market.
Meanwhile, in the emperor's palace, Belos and Eggman conversed about their plans, while Alador and Odalia directed the Abomaton soldiers to move various objects around the palace.
Odalia turns towards her husband, "Alador, do you think Amity is alright, she hasn't been very active since the demonstration, and I fear how she might take the news about school and such."
Alador nodded, "I'll check up on her." Alador pulled out his scroll and texted Amity.
Back at the Blight Manor, Amity laid on her bed, reading up on her school books. Amity's scroll buzzed, she picked it up, and checked to see what happened. She saw that her father had texted her.
"Hey Sweetie, you holding up alright?" texted Alador
"Yes father." Amity replied "I'm just catching up on my studies "
"Glad to know, now don't leave the house, because you're needed for a special occasion later today."
"Ok, I got it." She puts her scroll back away, and slumps her face into a pillow and lets out a muffled groan. Amity's palisman leaps onto her bed, and crawls on top of her head. Amity sits up on her bed, picks up her palisman, and places it on her lap.
As Amity pets the palisman, it meows at her. "Yeah, they're probably going to start Eggman's grand plan sometime today, but I'm not sure what I'm going about." Amity's palisman meows again at Amity. "No, I can't go tell Luz and Sonic, my parents expect me to be here." The palisman lets out an annoyed meow, before jumping off Amity's bed, and reverting to its staff form. Amity looks on at the staff, she sighs and takes the staff. Amity makes her way out of the front door of the manor; she positions herself on the staff, and flies off.
Sonic, Luz, and King walk the path back to the owl house, the sun starts to set. Sonic turns to face his two companions.
"You know, the Boiling Isles can be pretty tranquil when you're not tracking down any magical rocks or corrupted teenagers." Sonic stated, he carries a sack full of market goods.
Sonic, Luz, and King look on at the sunset with a sense of awe. King eventually snaps out of this state of tranquility the three have been put under and shakes his head.
"Ok, this is getting pretty boring now." King states.
"Yeah…" Sonic says, the trio continue to walk home. Sonic stretches out his arms as he walks, "Well, I guess it's time to get ourselves back home."
The three make it to the door, but Hooty pops out to greet them. "Hoot, Hoot! Well, if it isn't our favorite hedgehog, finally back from the market?"
"We sure are, my favorite… uh…" Sonic says, before he begins to ponder for a second. "Actually, what are you?" Sonic politely asks.
"I'm a worm." Hooty says, before opening himself up to the three.
"Ah, okay!" Sonic says as he, Luz and King walk inside. Sonic realizes what Hooty says, and stops inside. "Wait, WHAT!?" Hooty closes himself.
The trio walk into the living room, and are greeted by Eda.
"Ah, you three are finally home." Eda says, she rubs her hands together gleefully, "You the goods?"
"Sure, thing Eda!" Luz eagerly states, she hands over the bag that Sonic was holding.
Eda opens up the bag, and has a quick glance, she closes it back up and smirks. "Can't wait to get some use out of these babies!" Eda looks at Sonic, Luz, and King, "Now, I have another perilous quest for you three, with a luxurious reward."
"Well, Lay it on us, Owl Lady!" Sonic demands, a smug look forms on his face. Eda throws a broom at Sonic, it hits him in the face, and drops to the ground. Sonic picks up the broom, and looks at it in confusion.
"Clean up the place while I make some Vegetable stew."
"Yes, Eda." Sonic mutters slightly disappointed; He takes the broom, and starts to sweep around the living room.
Luz and King go upstairs to do their share of the chores, Luz later spots Sonic sweeping upstairs with a bored expression.
Luz taps Sonic on the shoulder, "Hey Sonic, how come you acted surprised back there?" Luz Inquires. "Didn't you have to do chores as a kid too?"
"I don't know..." Sonic states, while sweeping, Luz looks a bit surprised at this revelation. "I just remember running around my whole life." Sonic faces Luz, "Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a lone wolf, I've had more friends than I can count." Sonic chuckles with a slightly disturbed look, he turns back to himself. "But I never really lived in a traditional household, with parents, siblings, responsibilities, all that junk. I'm just used to running free and wild, so sorry If I seem a bit ungrateful towards you all, I truly appreciate the hospitality."
Luz freezes up for a second, she reaches out for Sonic, "Oh Sonic, I'm so sorry, I didn't-"
Sonic scoffs, before Luz can finish her condolences, He stands up defiantly and faces the sky. "Hey, don't feel sorry. I've made plenty of great friends throughout my adventures, so I wouldn't trade my life for the world." He looks back at Luz. "Besides, I did have this one recurring dream where I had a lost queen mother, and a brother and sister who sounded a lot like me for some reason. We were rebels against Eggman, and even had a little rock band."
"Wow," King said softly, "That sounds really stupid."
"King!" Luz shouted at King; Sonic laughed.
"No, trust me, it was pretty stupid." Sonic said reassuringly.
"Hey, dinner's ready!" Eda shouts from downstairs.
Sonic snaps out of his sentimental state, and looks at Luz. "Well, that was fun while it lasted," Sonic says, "but I'm feeling pretty hungry, so let's head downstairs." Sonic heads downstairs.
"No need to tell me!" King says, already out the door before Sonic. Luz shakes her head, and follows the other two.
The three make their way downstairs, and find Eda, stirring a pot of vegetable stew.
"Oh, hey kids," Eda said, she scoops up some stew ladle and pours it in her bowl. "Feel free to serve yourselves."
Sonic and Luz get themselves a bowl of the stew, Luz gets King a bowl due to his height.
The three sit at the table around Eda, Sonic lifts his spoon.
"Well, time to chow down!" Sonic exclaims. Sonic is about to eat his first spoonful of the stew, but the door knocks, making Sonic put down his bowl. "Oh, come on!" Sonic exclaims, he points at the door, "Luz, you can get that for me, right?" Luz reluctantly nods, she looks at Sonic, slightly disappointed.
Luz goes over to open the door. When she opens it, she finds Amity, holding her staff and panting.
Amity notices Luz, "Oh... Hey Luz... Been a while, hasn't it."
Luz's eyes widened, "Amity? Where have you been?"
Amity continues to pant, "Oh, I was just caught up with boring family stuff, but that's not the point. The point is, I need to tell Sonic that…" Amity started to faint and then fell to the ground.
A few minutes later, Amity awoke on the couch of the Owl House. She looked around her, and saw Luz sitting next to her, and Sonic sitting on a stool in front of her.
"Hey, are you alright, Amity?" Luz asks, and she hands Amity a glass of water.
Amity takes a big gulp of water, before replying with, "I'm fine, I just had to run halfway towards me flying here. It exhausted me." Amity's Palisman hisses at her, "Hey, you're the one that convinced me to make the trip in the first place, you don't get to complain about being tired!" Amity shouts, arguing with her Palisman.
Sonic shakes his head, gets off his stool, and faces Amity. "Now Amity, what was so important that you had to interrupt our dinner." Sonic said, in a humorous tone, he tries to eat another spoonful of the stew.
Amity puts down her glass, "Eggman is working with Belos."
At the news of this, Sonic drops his bowl of stew; chopped vegetables and broth spill all over the carpet.
"Eggman…" Sonic mutters while thinking to himself. He faces Amity again, "How do you know that name?" He inquires.
"About a week ago," Amity explains, "he and his robotic army had somehow made his way into the emperor's castle, without being seen outside prior. After a long fight, the two had come to an alliance of sorts, then proceeded to steal a sort of emerald, like the ones you have, but a lot bigger. A few days ago, Eggman went over to my house for dinner; I managed to overhear some details of his plan, including staging a complete take-over of the Boiling Isles, destroying the town square, and Hexside, and building a theme park for some reason."
"Ah, Eggman, still trying out his same old plans." Sonic remarks, almost nostalgically.
Amity continues, "After snooping around, I confronted Eggman in my father's lab. Eggman threatened to tell the emperor about the plant trek incident, unless I help him with a demonstration. At the said demonstration, he unveiled a robotic soldier of sorts." Amity points at Sonic, "It actually looked a lot like you. The machine and I fought in the demonstration, and I had barely managed to beat it, but that's only because Eggman felt like I had repaid my debt, or something dumb like that. That is also partially why I hadn't gone to school or talked to Luz for the past few days."
Sonic shook his head, "I knew it was a matter of time before Eggman followed me here, but by the looks of it, it seems he's going all out."
Luz clenched her fist, "Sonic, your rival deems like a real jerk.' Luz said, holding back her anger.
"Tell me about it." Sonic replied, he looked back at Amity, "Now, when is this whole thing supposed to unfold?" He asks.
"Sometime today, I think." Replied Amity, "But I'm not sure if that means in an hour, the dead of night, or-"
Amity was interrupted by a wiring sound coming from outside. Luz, Amity, and Sonic go outside, and see a myriad of flying spherical drones, with four propellers each.
"Oh dear," Amity exclaimed, "it's happening right now!"
Luz turned to Sonic, "So, what do we do now?"
Sonic stretched out his legs, "Now we follow those drones, and see where they lead us." Sonic darted off in the directions of the drones.
Amity held her hand out, and her staff came to her. She got on the staff and positioned herself. She faced Luz, and shouted, "Quick, get on!" Luz nodded, and sat behind Amity. The two flew off, and followed Sonic.
Sonic arrives in the town square, Luz and Amity follow closely behind. The sky is littered with drones. People look at each other with confusion, and market vendors close their stands. Each of the drones split in four, and go into a rectangular formation. The drones shoot out lights, and show a projection of Eggman through the entirety of the boiling Isles.
"People of the Boiling Isles, I've come to make an announcement." Eggman stated, his voice booming through the drones' speakers, "As you know, you have all been led by emperor Belos for a good part of your lives. But today this is going to come to an end, as now power is being handed over to me, Dr. Ivo Robotnik." The crowd that formed, gasped. "Now that may come as a shock to many, but I wish to compel people not to panic. Your insignificant lives will remain just as boring as they were before I came into power. Though, with that being said, I will be making a few minor adjustments such as, I don't know, destroying the town square and Bedside." Several Egg golems wearing hard hats roll into the square. "But fret not citizens, for these are being destroyed in order to make room for a theme park." A blueprint of Eggman appears on-screen for a few seconds. "At Eggman land: Boiling Isles (Trademarked), you will be able to enjoy thrilling rides, see amazing sights, and feel comforted by our 100% enslavement free workforce. For you vendors out there, we will provide alternate marketplaces, and even a chance to sell at Eggman land. As for you Hexside kids, Go Glandus! Now this is Emperor Robotnik, signing off." The projection turns off.
The Egg golems go forward, and start to demolish the stands. People run away, as Eggman's creations initiate the first step of his plan.
Sonic looked back at the two, and prepared to say something, but he noticed a raven phone flying towards Amity. The raven phone flies stationary in front of Amity.
"Amity Blight!" Odalia shouted from the phone, "Your father explicitly stated not to leave the house."
"I-I'm sorry mom," Amity stammers out, "I-"
"Enough Amity!" Odalia blurts out, interrupting her daughter, "Now you will make your way to the emperor's palace like an obedient child! Do I make myself clear?"
"Yes mother…" Amity softly states, she picks up the staff and prepares to take flight. Luz rushes over to Amity, and places her hand on her shoulder.
"Amity, please," Luz pleads desperately, "You don't have to do this."
Amity takes Luz's hand off her shoulder, "I'm sorry Luz" Amity positions herself on the staff, and flies off.
Luz stares at the sky and watches Amity as she flies away, Sonic goes to Luz and consoles her.
"Hey, are you alright?" Sonic asks, Luz clenched her emerald.
"Let's get that Eggman!" Luz proclaims, Sonic nods.
"Now that's the spirit!" Sonic replies. "Now I want you to focus on going fast."
"Really?" Luz asks confused, "I thought that was your job."
"Trust me, Luz," Sonic says, "Now focus intensely." Luz clutched the emerald tightly and closed her eyes, after a few seconds, an orange aura surrounded her.
Luz opens her eyes, and looks at herself with awe, "Wow, I'm all glowy and stuff!" Luz proclaims, she faces Sonic. "Now, what do we do?"
Sonic grabs Luz arm, "Now, we run!"
Sonic suddenly runs forwards at high speeds, he appears to be engulfed by a bright, blue streak of light. Luz runs alongside of him, her face has a terrified expression, and her legs seem to run instinctively. Luz is also engulfed in a similar streak of light.
Sonic faces Luz, "How does it feel to go fast?" Sonic shouts, his voice is muffled by their velocity.
"Pretty Scary," Luz replies, "How do you manage to do this almost every day?"
"Eh, you get used to it." Sonic replies, he looks forwards and sees some egg golems carrying around construction equipment. They notice the two running towards them, and drop their equipment. The egg golems try to run away, but Sonic and Luz dash through them, and send them flying all over the place.
Luz faces Sonic, "Woah, that was exhilarating, Sonic!" Sonic gives a thumbs up, before noticing that the road curves.
"Get ready to drift, Luz!" Sonic states, he lets go of Luz's arm. Sonic leans into the ground and plants his hand down, letting him make him the turn. Luz attempts to make the turn, but when she tries to drift, she hardly turns, and crashes into one of the stands. Sonic stops, and walks over to Luz, who has gotten herself stuck in a shelf. Sonic holds his hand out, and helps Luz get unstuck.
"Wow, turns out drifting is a lot harder to do than it is in racing games." Luz exclaims, she wipes dirt off her clothing.
"Don't worry, Luz." Sonic re-assures, "I have trouble with drifting too, so I usually don't bother."
Luz smiles, but suddenly, several kinds of robots drop from the sky, creating a barrier of sorts. There are purple and black egg fighters that tower over the two. There are also some flying buzz bombers that have their cannons pointed at the two. Some of the emperor's guards make their way through the robots, they form spell circles and point them at Luz and Sonic.
"It's over, fugitives!" the guard captain proclaims, "By order of Emperor Robotnik, you are detained!"
Luz looks at Sonic expectantly, but he appears unimpressed, and he yawns.
Sonic looks at the guard that addressed him, "Well give 'Emperor Robotnik', a little message, will you?"
The guard captain looks confused, then shakes their head, "What exactly are you getting at, vermin?"
Sonic held both his hands in the air, "Woah, it's a simple request, really." Sonic grabs the green emerald and teleports away. The guards and robots look around confused, Sonic reappears behind the back row of robots. Sonic circles around them, knocking them to the ground. Sonic teleports behind the guard captain, and tackles them to the ground. "Tell Eggman to get me himself."
The guard captain growled at Sonic through their mask, they formed a spell circle and shouted, "Get them."
The guard captain shoots a bolt of lightning at Sonic, to which he ducks under it. An egg fighter tries to strike Sonic from behind, but Luz intercepts its attack by launching it into the air with an ice glyph. Some buzz bombers prepare to blast at Luz, but Sonic leaps through the air, and jumps through all of them, before landing on the ground next to Luz.
"Looks like we have to deal with a couple more roadblocks." Sonic states, he turns to face Luz. "But that shouldn't be an issue for us, right?" Luz nods affirmatively.
Three egg fighters shoot lasers at Sonic, but Sonic backflips over them. Sonic, while in midair, positions himself, and performs a homing attack on the center egg fighter. When Sonic finally lands in between the two other egg fighters, they prepare to fire at Sonic, but he performs a sweeping kick, knocking the robots to the ground. Some scouts shoot fireballs at Sonic, but ducks under them, before spin dashing through all of them. Behind Sonic, Luz continues to pummel a swarm of egg fighters with fireballs. Suddenly, Luz is struck from behind with a fireball shot by a guard. Luz retaliates by using the chaos emerald to launch a fallen over egg fighter at the guard. Luz hypes herself up after the attack, but she is suddenly restrained by a guard, who uses plant magic to enclose Luz in a tight vine held by the guard.
"It's over, human!" the guard proclaimed, Buzz bombers from above pointed their cannons at Luz.
As the Buzz bombers charge their shots, Sonic notices Luz's predicament, and rushes over to help her. He uses the section of vine between Luz and the guard, to boost his jump into the air, and homing attacks all but one of the buzz bombers. He aims the buzz bomber's shot at the guard, and before they can run away, hits the guard with an explosive blast. Sonic lands next to Luz, who flings the vines off herself.
"Thank you, Sonic," Luz said, "You're a real lifesaver."
"No problem, Luz," Sonic replied, "Especially since you had my back earlier."
Sonic and Luz stop congratulating each other, and notice a fireball headed their way, they quickly step out of the way.
Sonic looks up, before turning to Luz, "Hey, can you boost me up?" Luz nods, and uses an ice glyph to launch Sonic in the air.
Sonic curls up into a ball, and quickly homing attacks any nearby robot or guard, meanwhile Luz summons two vines in each hand, and swings them at each enemy. Sonic continues his homing attack, until a chunk of ice hits him, knocking him back to the ground. As Sonic gets back up, he notices the myriad of robotic parts that litter the floor, and an idea sparks up in his mind.
"Hey Luz!" he shouts, grabbing the teenager's attention. He picks up a robot part, and tosses it up and back into his hand, "How about we show these goons how to play catch?"
Luz nods, and holds out her emerald. Sonic proceeds to toss pieces of robotic scrap at Luz, to which she violently launches it at one of the enemies. Sonic and Luz continue this process with absolute symmetry, Sonic even puts on a pose with each throw, to add some flair. Eventually, the guard that addressed the two earlier gets off the ground, before pointing at them and commanding everyone to charge the two at once. Sonic runs over to Luz, and they nod to each other, before lifting both of their emeralds in the air at the same time. The guards and egg fighters are stopped in their tracks and lifted into the air. Sonic and Luz quickly lift their emeralds back down, making the enemies crash to the ground violently, and dirt to spew out of the ground like an earthy geyser. When the dust settled, robotic parts and under paid guards littered the ground. Sonic and Luz huffed, before looking at each other and high-fiving.
"Alright, that's what I'm talking about!" Sonic exclaimed, "We really showed it to those lackeys."
Luz chuckled, "Yeah, now let's get that egghead." Luz stated. Sonic nodded, and prepared to run out of there, when an explosive shot was fired in between the two, making the two jump out of the way. After the small explosion settles, Sonic looks up, and his expression changes into a mortified one. Luz checks to see what has her friend upset, and sees an army of robots and guards, even larger than the one that they just a second ago.
"Aw, shoot!" Luz exclaims, "Why does there have to be even more of them?"
Sonic and Luz try to run the other way, only to find another large army heading their way. Buzz bombers from above fire more explosive projectiles at the two, and Sonic and Luz barely dodge Out of the way of fire.
"It's no use!" Sonic exclaims while dodging out of the way of fire, "We won't be able to make it to the emperor's castle at this rate."
Luz turns to him, "Why don't we just teleport out of here?"
Sonic shakes his head, before dodging another blast, "Yeah, like we would be able to get enough focus for that in here."
As the egg fighters and coven members inch closer, Luz slumps to her knees. "I can't believe it…" Luz mutters to herself, "I failed everyone, Eda, King, Gus, Willow, Amity, even mom…"
Sonic stares at Luz with sympathy, "Luz, it's-" but before Sonic can finish his sentence, he sees another explosive shot head towards Luz, and pushes her out of the way, putting himself in the blast radius. Sonic is thrown back, and Luz goes over to him, she sees buzz bombers preparing to fire at them, and forms a small and shaky barrier with the emerald.
Luz closes her eyes, and anticipates the sounds of projectiles firing off, but instead, she hears a familiar, powerful screech, and crashing. Luz opens her eyes, and sees pieces of Buzz bombers fall to the floor. She looks up, and sees Eda, in her harpy form, carrying around King. Luz collapses the barrier, and gets up, Sonic does the same.
Eda lands in front of Luz, "Hey Kiddo, you didn't think you could start a rebellion without us, did you?"
"Yeah," King added, "I want to explode more things with my voice."
An egg fighter tries to interrupt this reunion by attacking Luz from behind, but it is stopped by vines that wrap around and burst through it. Luz and Sonic turn around, and see Willow and Gus behind the robot.
"Don't forget about us." Willow shouted. Gus waved at them from next to Willow.
"Looks like Eggman isn't the only one that can call for backup." Sonic stated, "Also, you guys might need this." Sonic tosses King the blue emerald.
"Oh, it's the shiny rock." King said eagerly.
"Eda, will you back us up, so we can get enough focus to teleport out of here?" Luz requested.
"I'll see what I can do, kiddo." Eda replied. Eda flew back up to deal with the Buzz Bombers, while Gus, Willow, and King dealt with ground units.
"Alright, Luz," Sonic inquired, "Are you ready to take down that egghead?"
"More than Anything." Luz replied.
The two lifted their emeralds up in the air, and teleported out of there.
