Chuck sat at the Nerd Herder desk day-dreaming about what almost happened the last couple nights.
The Intersect and the CIA kept getting in the way of his potential love life. A year ago, he had no love life and no prospects. Now he had Sarah. No, that wasn't right. Could a CIA protector be called a prospect? He almost had her. It wasn't respectful to say he "had" her. She had him. From the date a couple nights ago, it seemed like she really liked him, too. The problem was that all three times they tried to have a first date, bombs and bad guys had to get in the way.
When Sarah canceled the make-up date last night, she seemed genuinely upset. Maybe she was upset that Graham was killed, though she didn't say that was the issue. People were always talking to Chuck about everything that bothers them, but last night. Sarah only talked about the date being cancelled. After the news, it wasn't a date anymore, but she still stayed for dinner, saying that she needed to eat. She left afterwards, but she had an appetite. That's why he was so surprised when Casey told him this morning.
Sarah even gave him a quick kiss on the cheek right before she left. There wasn't anyone around to put up the cover for. Trying to figure out what that meant kept him awake for hours. They were still going to be working together—him flashing and her being his superhero-protector. He needed to ask her what the kiss meant. It wasn't exactly the romantic thing to ask, but when could they ever be romantic?
Right after the store opened, Lester had a meeting for the staff back in the break room. It was his first as Assistant Manager, so Chuck figured he ought to go to back up the man who he picked to be their boss.
The meeting was a joke. Lester actually threatened Jeff about taking away his sleep time in the bathroom every afternoon. If Jeff would stop, it would be a nice change, but no one really believed Lester would come down on him. It was one of those things they put up with because they needed Jeff to help with old technology and who knows what harm would come to society if the Buy More kicked him out.
Lester didn't know when the Buy More Credit Cards were coming and asked Chuck. It seemed like Chuck was still going to be in charge of his area, which would make it easy for him to keep doing his other job for the CIA and NSA. Lester was often disgusting, but at least he wasn't Harry Tang. That little tyrant hated him no matter what he did.
Chuck and Morgan slowly walked out of the break room back to the sale floor, where customers were coming in. Chuck sadly said, "I can't believe this is my life. Morgan, do you remember a time when I actually had potential?"
Morgan was more upbeat, "Are you kidding me? Yeah, You were bursting with it. Man, I'm glad that's over with." Chuck thought with the Intersect out of his head, he was going to leave the Buy More and do something like see the world—he hoped with Sarah. His friend just wanted him at his side. He had no ambition or dreams of something more, but he was very loyal.
"I'm kidding," Morgan said. Was he kidding, though? "Come on. We all know that you're gonna go on to do great things." That was the friend who always believed in him. "But until that day, just know that no matter how bad your life gets, you get to go home to that."
Chuck looked at the front of the store where Sarah had just walked in. Chuck's dream girl. His day-dream came back, this time with a soundtrack: "Do You Believe In Love?" by Huey Lewis and the News.
Sarah was in her new Orange Orange outfit. Her Wienerlicious get-up was something, but this was almost too much. For the new yogurt store, she wore tight white jeans that showed off her long and wonderful legs. Her top was a orange tank top that was legal, but to mere mortals, it was almost indecent. To someone who was only pretending to be her boyfriend for cover, it was not fair. Sarah always had teenage boys gawking at her at the Wienerlicious. He didn't see how it would be any better at the new spy base. She'd have to close the store to keep out people who just wanted to gawk.
Sarah looked around the store like she didn't know where Chuck was. She always knew where he was. It was so cute. When she spotted him, she smiled and started towards him. That's when his imagination really took hold.
First, her eyes lit up, and she curled the sides of her mouth a little. Then, she started walking slowly towards him, almost seductively… like she had to seduce him. It was completely unnecessary. She never had to do that. He was completely under her spell.
She wasn't done, though. She turned sideways and rolled her shoulder twice and tilted her head back. Wow. She still wasn't done. She smiled and hopped into a cartwheel, her long blond hair flipping as she looked so happy coming towards him.
Next, she went down to her hands and… Oh my. She looked like she was going to pounce on him. In a good way. Chuck was completely ensnared even more than he was two days ago.
He leaned forward, closed his eyes, and he put out his lips. Sarah met him with the softest, most wonderful kiss he could imagine. When he separated, she was loosely holding him in place by the tie—as if she needed a leash. She didn't need one with him. He'd follow her anywhere. (Even if it meant getting out of the car.)
Chuck found his voice. "Is that, uh... Is that a real kiss or a cover kiss? 'Cause I'm confused right now." She was probably going to crush his wonderful day-dream and say it was for national security and she needed to speak to him privately.
Instead, she brushed her hands off on her jeans and took a couple swipes at her pants to clean them off. She said, "I shouldn't do that anymore." Then she gave Chuck another soft kiss. It almost felt too short, but they were still in public, in the middle of the store, so it was long enough. "Sorry, we have a national security issue and I need to speak to you privately." She took a firm hold of his hand and led him out the front to the Orange Orange entrance of Castle.
Right outside the front, Chuck asked, "What does this mean?"
Sarah came in close and said his ear. "It means we can't try a fourth first date. But we still get to be a 'different kind of couple.' We can enjoy that, however we can. I just can't crawl on the floor like that again in white jeans. I'll go through them too fast."
Chuck stopped because he couldn't believe it. He and Sarah were actually going to be a real boyfriend and girlfriend. Well, maybe not a real one, but a different one that was closer to real. He'd get to kiss Sarah like that. A few minutes ago, he sadly mused that he couldn't believe that was his life. Now, he couldn't believe that was his life! With the beta Intersect destroyed, Sarah and Chuck still had to deal with his flashes, but even if she wasn't going to Jakarta, she wanted to be something more—with him. Whatever that was, if it was with Sarah, he'd take it. He's do anything for her. He'd jump off a building for her.
Since Sarah was holding his hand, she had stopped while Chuck was realizing what this all meant. She gave it a yank and pulled him in for another quick kiss. She smiled after this one, before the two of them went to deal with the national security issue.
A/N: This just came out this morning. "The Intersect Couple vs Their Dream" will continue next week, after the holiday.
Yes, I know it's a little silly. Sarah wouldn't really do that. However, this is a show in which a computer was downloaded into his head. Also, in that story the Buy Morons weren't fired for what they regularly did.
