the nineteenth chapter of my Frozen fanfiction titled 'This Icy Force Both Foul and Fair Has A Frozen Heart Worth Mining'. chapter nineteen AKA 'Introductions and Surprise Weddings' is also, quite possibly, the longest chapter of the entire fanfiction at a whopping three-thousand-two-hundred-sixty-five words worth of it, with one author's note/comment hidden within said storyline. this chapter barely needs a summary description, since even with how long it is, the description of its plotline is basically right there in the title. I still have to disclaim copyright infringement in this chapter to, though.
disclamation: I do not own Disney's Frozen in any way, shape, or form except for owning the film on Bluray and DVD. in terms of the movie's production, however, all ownership rights are reserved solely for the folks of the Walt Disney Studios Company down in LA, California. I also confess to not even owning the storyline of my own fanfiction here. the credit for this plotline is actually reserved for another fanfiction blogger on this site who writes under the penname of classicdisneyFTW.
Then as if they were all finally ready to respond to my greetings, the trolls instantly all rolled towards me. "Kristoff," Anna said as she had to jump out of the way as some of them passed by her.
The rock Olaf had been talking to earlier started to roll towards me as well with Olaf, himself, following. "Whoa!" I said just before I started to chuckled that the trolls were finally ready to reveal themselves. "Hey!" I exclaimed as Bulda and her husband, Cliff, both stopped in front of me and unfolded while the rest of them followed suit.
Bulda looked very excited upon seeing me for the first time in a while. "Kristoff's home!" she exclaimed as her husband, Cliff, plugged his ear which was closest to her.
The trolls all cheered 'Kristoff's home!' and 'Kristoff's here!' along with her.
Olaf even joined in. "Kristoff's home!" the little snowman shouted in excitement just before suddenly becoming quite confused, finally having heard my actual name. "Wait, 'Kristoff'?" he asked the nearest troll who just nodded at him.
That was when a female troll by the name of Raquel grabbed my hand and practically yanked me down to her level. "Aw, let me look at you," she said, most likely excited about seeing me once again.
Then, Bulda came up from behind me and started to pull on my trousers, saying, "Take off your clothes. I'll wash them."
I stopped her before she could remove anything. "Ah, no, I'm gonna keep my clothes on," I told her, especially since Anna chose to stay here and listen to them, after all. We all had something else to do, anyway. "Look it's great to see you all, but where's Grandpabbie?" I asked them.
That was around when I heard one of the young ones talking to me. "He's napping." It was Flint. "But, look! I grew a mushroom," he told me, turning around and showing the mushroom which was now protruding from his back.
Another one of the young ones approached me by the name of Almandine. Just like Bulda and Raquel, Almandine was a female troll, too. "I earned my fire crystal," she said, holding up a glowing ruby-like crystal.
Then, an older one, Jasper, who was probably grumpier than even me, became the next one to talk to me. "I passed a kidney stone," he said, holding up a tiny pebble.
Then, my own adoptive kid brother, Coal, who was probably just a little bit younger than even Flint and Almandine, jumped into my arms. "Kristoff, pick me up," he requested upon jumping in my arms.
Coal had really gotten heavier since the last time I saw him. Even I could barely hold him. "You're getting big," I told him proudly. "Good for you." It really was just like the old days. At least now, I could actually support even the troll children's weight.
Back at the valley's edge, it seemed as though Anna finally felt comfortable enough for it and took the opportunity to speak up about what she thought of my family. "Trolls," she said quietly at first. "They're trolls!" she said a little bit louder that time, like she was at last realizing I was not so crazy, after all. I was certainly not as crazy as she and Olaf thought I was.
The trolls, however, suddenly heard her, looked her way, and they all blinked simultaneously at the sight of her.
That was just about when they got overly excited about her presence. "He's brought a girl!" Bulda screamed out to the others. They all screamed out, "A girl!" with the same excitement.
Then, the trolls all swept Anna up off of her feet and passed her towards me. They all said things like, "Is that a real girl?" and "She's like a little cupcake.", in response to how she looked.
Finally, they tossed Anna into my arms. "What's going on?" she asked me.
I could not be too sure. "I've learned to just roll with it," I told her, trying to sound as reassuring as I could. Even when growing up in their kingdom, however, I still could never know what to expect from the trolls at any time. I just set her down after that.
Bulda suddenly stood atop her husband, Cliff, to get a better look at Anna. "Let me see," she said grabbing onto her face. "Bright eyes, working nose, strong teeth," Bulda said about Anna, inspecting her face thoroughly while I just chuckled at the notion of it all. "Yes, yes. She'll do nicely for our Kristoff."
Oh no! I covered my face in embarrassment. They would think that of my bringing her here. Anna was equally embarrassed by the way she looked and sounded. "Wait, wait, wait, Oh, um… no. No," she said. Then she chuckled a bit.
I could not agree with her reaction more. "You've got the wrong idea," I tried to tell them. "No. That's not why I brought her here," I continued to try telling them.
We just looked at one another in embarrassment. "Right," she said. "We're not… I'm not," she tried to explain our reason for me to have even brought her here in the first place, chuckling nervously all the while.
Bulda and Cliff seemed to not hear it, though. "What's the issue, dear?" she asked Anna. "Why are you holding back from such a man? Is it the clumpy way he walks?" Bulda asked Anna further, breaking out into a song as she did.
"What?" I asked her, frowning.
That was just about when her husband, Cliff, joined Bulda in asking Anna about why we did not seem to accept one another. "Or the grumpy way he talks?" Cliff asked. Oh come on, I was not always grumpy. Well, maybe, I was a bit grumpy about a few things, but I was certainly never that bad.
But, Anna only seemed to want to tell them that the questions that they were both asking her were not the issue with our presence here. "Oh, no," she said. If only the trolls would have been willing to listen to her.
Then, Raquel came back around to me and held up my right foot in further demonstration of my oddities. "Or the pear-shaped, square-shaped weirdness of his feet?" she asked Anna.
"Hey!" I said, pulling my foot away from Raquel.
Before I could protest any further, however, Galena's husband, Slate, came up to me, jumped upon his wife's head so that he would have been up to my shoulder, and started to assist with the others' questions to Anna about me. "And though we know he washes well, he always ends up sort of smelly," Slate said, falling backwards for dramatic effect after taking a large whiff of me.
Excuse me, I know I did not exactly smell like a bouquet of roses, but it is not like I smelt bad enough to knock even one of them out upon sniffing me, alone. Just to be sure, though, I snuck a sniff of myself, anyway. Yeah, I did not smell that bad, certainly not as bad as Slate made me out to smell.
That was right about when Bulda and her husband, Cliff, jumped upon my shoulders. "But, you'll never met a fella…" Bulda started them off alone, as she had been the first to jump onto my left shoulder.
Then, Cliff joined in with his wife's explanation of me as it became a duet. "… who's as sensitive and sweet," the two of them sang together just before pulling on my lips and posing me with a smile like they were selling me on the market. I just chuckled uncomfortably at this.
Anna was just about ready to object to this. "That's nice," she started out. "But…" she never had the chance to finish her argument, though, because Bulda and Cliff suddenly pulled me backwards.
Then, they threw me onto another one, Amber, who folded back into her rock form right before I landed on her as she rolled towards the rest. "So, he's a bit of a fixer-upper… so, he's got a few flaws," Bulda and Cliff sang together while I tried desperately to keep hold of my balance as Amber just continued to roll with me atop her.
Then, Amber dropped me off of her as Agate began to sing.
"Like his peculiar brain, dear," she sang to Anna.
"His thing with the reindeer…" Agate's husband, Jet, sang as he gestured to Sven.
Then, the two of them sang together as a duet. "… that's a little outside of nature's laws," they sang to Anna.
I tried to tell them, "This is not about me!", but they just continued to sing and ignore me and Anna.
"So, he's a bit of a fixer-upper, but this we're certain of," the trolls all sang together as a chorus. "You can fix this fixer-upper up with a little bit of love." That was about when Amber and the troll who was holding her up underneath her feet, her own husband, Nickel, started pushing me towards Anna. Only thing I could say that I actually liked about them pushing me was that the two of them were the gentlest of the trolls, which was still not by much.
Anna still looked pretty uncomfortable with what they were all trying to do with us. "Um," was all she could say about it, though.
This very idea was now getting a little too inappropriate and unpredictable, even when it was coming from my troll family. I just exasperatedly covered my face at this, however, and just continued to at least try to put up with it. "Can we please just stop talking about this?" I asked the trolls, hoping they would listen to me when I at least said, "We've got a real, actual problem, here." But, the trolls still would not listen.
Amber inspected my face, licked her thumb, and then she placed her thumb on my left cheek to clean my face up a bit. It was not like I actually needed it done, though. "I'll say," said Bulda to Anna while Amber cleaned up my cheek. "So, tell me, dear, is it the way that he runs scared?" Bulda asked Anna, taking the time to talk to her for a little right before once again breaking out to continue with hers and her people's little song about me.
She tossed me aside and handed me over to Zircon, Raquel's husband. "Or that he's socially impaired?" he asked Anna while covering my ears. I always hated the way Zircon just continued to treat like I was still a kid well into my own teens and even now, which I was not. I was twenty-one, now; the exact same age as Anna's older sister, Arendelle's queen.
Then, a young one who went by the name of Sterling jumped right into my arms. "Or that he only likes to tinkle in the woods?" Sterling asked Anna… mischievously, I might add, especially considering that after I shoved him aside and dropped him out of my arms, he wore a big, fat grin on his face.
Clearly, that part disturbed Anna enough to say, "I did not need to know that." in response to hearing it in the first place.
As for me, I was embarrassed enough to shake my head at Anna when I dropped Sterling. Then just when I actually hoped that would be the end of it, I realized that I had hoped in vain.
Yes, that was just the beginning of the trolls listing all of my own flaws in song form. Cliff then came up to me from behind. "Are you holding back your fondness due to his unmanly blondeness?" he asked Anna while taking off my cap. I pouted in complete and total embarrassment before Cliff finally began ruffling up my hair. She just chuckled at the idea, though.
That was right about when I was tossed onto some of the trolls who had banded together to form a heart-shaped chorus. "Or the way he covers up that he's the honest goods?" the chorus sang right before tossing me back onto my feet then folding into rocks.
Every last one of the trolls once again joined together to sing an even bigger chorus after that. "He's just a bit of a fixer-upper," they all sang as Sven and I scratched ourselves on the ears. "He's got a couple of bugs."
Pardon their French! "No, I don't!" I told them in defiance of their claim.
Then, a smaller group of four columns of trolls standing on one another's hands began to sing, "His isolation is confirmation of his desperation for healing hugs." They all hugged me as a group after singing about it.
I smiled at being hugged by them all, ignoring what Anna might think about it for once. From her end of their explanation, however, I suddenly seemed to have nothing to worry about from her, because her reaction to the sentiment was only a small 'aw'.
Then, the trolls got some vine to tie me and Anna up with. "So, he's a bit of a fixer-upper, but we know what to do," they just continued to sing as the lady trolls lassoed Anna with their vines and the guy trolls lassoed onto me. "The way to fix up this fixer-upper is to fix him up with you." That was when I was pulled over by the guy trolls while Anna was pulled over to the other edge of the Valley of the Living Rock by the lady trolls.
I had had it with their behavior by then. I had to end this. "Stop it, stop it, stop it. Enough!" I called to the guys. "She is engaged to someone else, OK?" I asked them, although it was more of a statement than a question. Still, I was pretty sure that would stop this setup once and for all. It just had to.
They all blinked at me simultaneously then turned around to form a huddle. I did not exactly know what the troll guys all said about it, and I am not so sure that I really wanted to know, but after a few moments, they turned back around to face me with renewed energy. "So, she's a bit of a fixer-upper. Her brain's a bit betwixt," they all sang to me.
Then, they basically attacked me with… I was not even sure what it was. It was some kind of outfit, I suppose. "Hey! Whoa, watch it!" I said to them the moment they attacked me with the weird-looking outfit.
They just continued to think that Anna and I were so perfect for one another. "Get the fiancé out of the way, and the whole thing will be fixed," they all sang to me. I just buried my face into my hands and groaned. They just were not getting it.
After they finally got at least the cape for the whole look on me, I simply had to turn around towards Anna to see how she was dealing with it all. Upon seeing her, however, I felt my eyes almost just pop right out of my head at the very sight of her. As surprised as I was by it, she actually looked stunningly beautiful, even when she wore a mossy cape like me, a crystal necklace and a large, grassy headdress. Only Anna could manage to look so lovely in such a strange and outrageous outfit. "Whoa!" was the only word for it I seemed able to spit out. I actually felt a small smile creep onto my face almost instantly after saying the only thing that I really could about her look.
As the trolls just continued to sing, Anna then looked in my direction and began to laugh. It was then that I noticed that I was also dressed up in the same kind of outfit with a wooden headdress. Unlike Anna, however, I did not look so beautiful. I actually looked very ridiculous, as a matter of fact. I already knew about the mossy cape with the guy trolls put on me from when they attacked me with it, but I did not remember them ever putting the wooden headdress on my head. I suppose they put the wooden headdress on me while I was busy basking in the glory that was Anna in the very same kind of outfit which I was now wearing. I just shrugged at her, embarrassedly.
The trolls, however, only continued to go on about fixing up fixer-uppers, like me, with love. "Father," Cliff stood up and sang.
Opal, my adoptive sister, jumped onto his hands. "Sister," she said.
Then, Coal jumped onto Opal's feet. "Brother," Slate sang for Coal.
Then, they all started once again to sing as a full chorus. "We need each other to raise us up and round us out," they all sang. Then, Cliff ran into Bulda after rolling in his rock form for a bit. "Everyone's a bit of a fixer-upper, but when push comes to shove," they all sang as one chorus and shoved Anna and me towards one another as they sang the words, 'push comes to shove'.
That was right about when Olaf stood up in the space between that of where Anna and I were with Flint and Almandine holding onto his parts on their hands. "The only fixer-upper fixer that can fix a fixer-upper is…" he began to sing along with the trolls' little song, only a little bit faster than they had, right before Flint and Almandine rejoined the family back on the ground and dropped Olaf's parts where they could land in place. Yeah, I definitely think Olaf would have gotten along perfectly with my troll family if he had wanted to.
A/N: I kinda made an homage to that one song from 'Descendants 2', 'The Space Between', when I mentioned Olaf's position when he showed up to join in on the trolls' song right there.
That was just about when the trolls began digging a large pit, set up a wooden arch over it, and decorated it with a ton of wild mushrooms, branches, grass and moss. Then as if things could not get any weirder about this union, the trolls tossed me and Anna into the pit they dug up by the wooden arch. All of this was done while the trolls just continued to sing about true love. That was just about the moment when Gothi, the troll priest, approached us with a book in his hands. "Do you, Anna, take Kristoff to be your troll-fully wedded…" he asked Anna.
Anna and I were confused by this union, but she was the only one who had enough nerve to speak up about it. "Wait, what?" she asked Gothi in shock.
I, on the other hand, had already given up trying to convince the trolls that this was just not to be. "You're getting married," was Gothi's deadpan response to Anna's question.
Now, I knew for sure what these insane outfits were for. This was exactly what I meant when I told Anna that the trolls were a little bit inappropriate and stubborn at times. Oh well, at least they still meant well.
