Chapter 1 : Going Viral
Aoi wasn't too sure how she felt about her classes at this point. After everything she had been through and all the fighting she had done. School just seemed mundane. More so than usual. Or maybe it was that after all the action it had been so long since she had been fighting that she missed the rush of it. Of dueling alongside Playmaker and the others. These were thoughts going through her mind as she continued her walk home from school. The days at school had just seemed to grow longer and longer recently.
Aoi sighed thinking back on her last interaction with Yusaku. It had been Almost four months since she had visited him and so far nobody had heard anything from him. What was even stranger is that link VRAINS Heroes where appearing less and less frequently. Soul Burner appeared every one in a while but it was rumored he had other obligations in real life that was keeping him from logging in all too often and who knows what Revolver was doing these days.
It wasn't as though she didn't understand though. Even Aoi herself had been avoiding logging into link VRAINS. She didn't have a particular reason why she was avoiding it. It was just that every time she looked at her duel disk. She felt a weird sinking feeling in her stomach. She let out another sigh as she continued her walk home
Akira sighed as he sat at his desk. Becoming the CEO of Sol Technologies had both its upsides and downsides. The pay was certainly nice and being able to assist in Keeping Link VRAINS running made him happy .However the workload was sure to be the death of him. So many papers to sign, meetings to attend, People to meet. But it was all worth it to Akira. He wanted to be sure that Yusaku could safely return when he was done with his Journey. After all Yusaku had done so much for himself and Aoi that he felt like he owed it to him.
Akira had just finished signing another paper. Some funding agreement for some project that wasn't important, when his assistant came into the room. With a Grimm look on her face. This concerned Akira Immediately. Normally Hayami was so upbeat so seeing her looking this worried was scary to say the least.
"Sir," She said seriously. A tone that was uncommon "We need you in the main control center, Something… Something unusual is happening"
Akira instantly stood up "Lead the way, you can fill me in on the details while we walk"
"What's the situation?" Akira asked as he and Hayami walked into the room
One of the employees immediately walked up to them as he spoke and began speaking "Sir there's some unexplained activity on the network" The employee explained
Akira raised an Eyebrow "And what's so important it must immediately be brought to my attention?" He asked curiously. Normally such things wouldn't reach him. Especially if it was just some unusual activity.
"Sir, This activity is….. People's avatar have been being deleted at random within link VRAINS. Normally this wouldn't be a problem. Avatars are occasionally deleted by accident every once in a while and we can easily restore them" The employee began
"But?" Was Akiras short reply. He knew there was more to it than that.
"But we have reason to believe that people's avatars are being deleted by something. And the worst part. The users who have had their avatars deleted. Aren't regaining consciousness either" The employee finished. Looking more and more nervous with each word.
Akira took a second to take in this information. It sounded similar to the "Another'' incident that the knights of Hanoi caused. If that was the case then he would need to get in contact with the knights immediately. Which was easier said than done. "Do we have any idea as to why this might be happening?" Akira asked
"Only one lead" Hayami cut in " One of the victims was streaming before the stream abruptly ended after this figure appeared" she explained, pressing some buttons on her tablet and bringing up an image on the large screen in the middle of the room. "The stream cut out shortly after but from what we're able to gather the user seemingly dueled right before having their account deleted"
The figure couldn't even really be described as human. It was more of a large mass of black data with a human-like body structure. They way it looked and appeared to move even though it was a still image disturbed Akira. "What is that?" he asked confused
"We don't know. We suggest leading a full investigation into it " One of the employees explained.
"Agreed" Akira nodded "I'll get in contact with some contacts. The best of the best. With their help we'll be able to get to the bottom of this" He then turned to Hayami. "Did you contact them already"
Hayami nodded, A sad look appearing on her face "I did sir. However we still have no idea where Playmaker is or what he might be doing. On top of that Soulburner has also been missing for months and we're worried he won't respond. Getting in contact with Revolver is all but impossible as well" She informed him "If we want to get to the bottom of this then we need someone who is as good as them"
Akira grimaced and that. The big three of link VRAINS weren't available and peoples lives were seemingly at stake. With them out of the picture he only knew one more person who could possibly aid them in getting to the bottom of this situation. He didn't want to. But he knew they were his only option "Hayami please prepare a car, I'm going to find the only other person who can help us" He instructed her
"Wait, where should I tell the driver to take you?" Hayami asked frantically. Grabbing her tablet and immediately typing a message
He turned to her with a conflicted look on his face "H..Home." Was all he said. He walked away. Leaving a largely confused Hayami behind him.
"I told you Miyu I'm fine," Aoi insisted. Speaking to her friend whose face was currently displayed on the overly large TV in her living room.
Aoi was happy that she'd been able to resume her friendship with Miyu. It gave her someone to talk to other than her brother or Ema. She loved her brother and Ema was like a big sister to her. But she felt like there were things she couldn't talk about with them that she could with Miyu.
"Oh really. Then where has Blue angel been huh or Blue Maiden?." Miyu countered "You haven't logged into Link VRAINS in a few months now. There's all sorts of theories as to your disappearance". Aoi rolled her eyes at that and began taking a large sip of the coffee that was on the table next to her. "Some even think you've run off with Playmaker to wherever he's gone" Miyu continued
Aoi nearly did a Spit take at that and began to choke on the drink. She could hear Miyu cackling with laughter in the background as she struggled to breathe. Eventually she managed to regain her composure and angrily looked at Miyu. Blushing as she did "The hell do you mean Ran off with him?. The hell gave them that idea?!" She nearly yelled
Miyu laughed again "Nothing. Just wanted to see how you'd react to that." Laughing again as Aoi's blush deepened "But seriously you need to get back into the game." She continued still laughing at Aoi's grumpy expression
Aoi took a second to calm herself before responding. "Maybe Miyu. I just haven't felt like it recently" Aoi half lied'. "I'll try to log in soon. I promise" Miyu was about to push her point further when Aoi heard the door to her house open "I gotta go Miyu. I'll talk to you later" Aoi said quickly before hanging up.
She stood up and turned around. Curious as to who was entering the house. Her brother should still be at work and the only other person that had access to the house was Ema. For what reason Akira gave her Access Aoi hadn't quite figured it out. So to say she was surprised when she saw her brother standing in the doorway was an understatement.
"Akira, What are you doing back so early?" Aoi asked "Did you finish early today?
Akira let out a small chuckle "I'm afraid not, I'm actually here to speak to you about something. Something work related" She could see him visually tense up. Akira usually avoided talking about work very much. Often preferring to talk about other topics. So for him to want to speak to her about something work related that was so important that he would come home early. It had to be something big. Which worried her.
The two made their way over to the living room and both sat down. Akira looked over at the screen and saw the video call app was open "Talking to Miyu again?" He asked to which Aoi only nodded "I'm glad. It seems that since the whole ordeal with A.I. You've been keeping to yourself far more than usual"
Aoi only shrugged. He wasn't wrong, she supposed."You said you wanted to speak to me about something. Something business related?" Aoi asked quickly, moving the subject away from herself.
Akira's calm smile quickly changed into a frown."Yes there is. Normally I'd try to keep you out of things like this. But with Playmaker unavailable and due to the fact we weren't able to contact Soulburner or even Revolver. I need your help with something. Something Link VRAINS related"
Aoi was taken aback by a lot of what Akira said "Link VRAINS? Why come to me about link VRAINS. Even if Playmaker and the others aren't available, surely there must be others who can do a better job than me?" she asked. In truth she just didn't want to think about Link VRAINS right now.
Akira shook his head "You really should have more confidence in your own abilities Aoi. But as to why I contacted you I felt I needed someone who I could not only trust but also good enough that they could keep up with link VRAINS' Big three.," he explained. "Here take a look at this"
Akira pushed a button on his tablet and an image appeared on the TV screen. From what Aoi could tell it was just a massive blob of Data. No real shape to discern. Aoi turned to Akira, clearly confused."Akira….." She started slowly, not really knowing what to make of what her brother was showing her "What…. What am i looking at?"
Akira's face turned grim. "Recently peoples accounts have been getting deleted." Aoi went to speak but Akira held up a hand so he could finish "Normally this wouldn't be a cause for get deleted accidentally all the time and are normally easily recoverable. however, the peoples accounts who have been getting deleted in these cases … they.. Don't wake up in the real world"
Aoi instantly flashed back to the Deleted incident, Remembering how people would be unable to log out of link VRAINS. This was different however. People's accounts were being deleted so there was no where they were conscious. "Do the Knights of Hanoi have anything to do with this?" She asked immediately
Akira shook his head "We don't know however judging by …. Whatever that is, I'd say no. That is actually why I came to you." he started. Aoi looked at him curiously. What did she have to do with a giant blob of data that was seemingly related to players disappearing.
Akira let out a sigh but continued to speak. "Listen Aoi. Playmaker is on his journey. Soulburner is…. Missing and we don't dare try to get in contact with the Knights of Hanoi. We need someone to investigate this. Someone we can trust. We need you..." Akira explained
"No"
Akira was taken aback by how she had cut him off. He hadn't expected such blatant refusal from her. "I...I'm sorry?" He asked
"I can't do it again, Akira. Not after last time". She explained an undertone of panic in her voice. "I almost lost everything three times Akira and if Playmaker weren't around to save all of our asses we would have lost everything for good" She explained
Akira looked at her for a few seconds before smiling at her. "Aoi. I understand how you feel and I'm sure Playmaker,Soulburner and Revolver all feel the same way. However, What do you think Playmaker would do? " He asked. Aoi looked down at the ground after he said that. Seemingly beginning to think. She knew the answer. Playmaker wouldn't have stopped until he got to the bottom of whatever was doing this. He would already be in Link VRAINS looking for that thing. But she wasn't Playmaker.
Akira placed a comforting hand on her shoulder before continuing "I wouldn't be asking you to do this if I wasn't one-hundred percent confident in your me I would prefer it if I were able to leave you out of it entirely. I promise you that you won't be in any danger. All we need you to do is to simply log in to link VRAINS and scout things out. Gather information. I promise i won't make you fight if you don't want to"
Aoi was silent for a few minutes. She didn't know what to do. A part of her was eager to jump back into the fray and help out with whatever this thing was. On the other hand she didn't know if she was ready. She knew what battles of this type brought with it.. "I… I don't know Akira. Can I just have some time to think about it" She asked, refusing to look her brother in the eye "This is… a lot. I told myself I wouldn't get involved with things like this again".
Her brother nodded "Of course Aoi. I understand that this is a hard decision for you to make. Believe me it wasn't easy to ask this of you. Take as much time as you need to think on it" He said standing up. "I've gotta get back to work, there's still a lot to do regarding this, But if you need me just call"
Akira gave Aoi a quick hug before quickly leaving the house. Leaving Aoi to her thoughts. Aoi Really didn't know what to do. She Quickly decided that staying cooped up at home wasn't going to help her out with thinking so she decided to head out for a walk. To help clear her mind.
Aoi really didn't know what to do with the whole situation. She was so ready to completely block any attempts to get her to take up the Blue Maiden mantel and protect Link VRAINS again. If anything she was planning to only use the Blue Girl avatar that she had if she ever logged into Link VRAINS again. But her mind kept thinking back to what Akira had said when he asked her what , What Yusaku would do is this scenario. That was what had gotten her to reconsider. Not because of what Akira said. But because of something Yusaku had asked of her during their last duel
(Flashback - 4 months ago)
The duel up until this point had been intense. Both sides had been throwing everything they had at each other and each side was able to counter the other's moves effectively. However despite this, it was Playmaker who held the clear lead in this duel.

Blue Maiden Life Points : 1500
"Let's Battle!" Playmaker let out a determined cry "Firewall Dragon attack Marincess Coral Anemone!Tempest Attack!"
Firewall Dragon let out a mighty roar before its body changed from a blue colour to a crimson red one. It let out multiple spike-like objects that formed behind it and began emitting circle-like energy rings behind him. The dragon threw its head back before letting out a massive stream of energy aimed straight at Blue Maidens' Marincess Coral Anemone.
Blue Maiden grimaced as she saw the attack coming. Thinking quickly she remembered one of her set cards "I don't think so Playmaker. I activate the Trap Marincess Bubble Ring. Now when your monster attacks me this ring prevents that attack from connecting"
A large bubble surrounded Coral Anemone as shielding it from Firewall Dragons attack. Blue Maiden lets a sigh of relief out as her monster was protected as were the few life points that she had remaining However despite the near miss she smirked as she knew she had caught Playmaker in her trap "Marincess Bubble Rings additional effect activates. Now as it successfully negated your attack I can call out Marincess Crystal Heart from my extra deck!" Blue Maiden cried
A smoke-like figure appeared on the battlefield surrounding a blue heart made of Crystal. Playmaker observed the monster as it took its place on the battlefield behind Coral Anemone. "Marincess Crystal Heart. The monster that symbolizes the bond between Earth and Aqua" He stated

"Aoi, Even now you still value the bond you shared with Aqua correct?" Playmaker asked
Blue Maiden to look over at him confused "Of course I do. Even though our time together was short, Aqua meant the world to me! " Blue Maiden told him That's why I'll continue to use the cards she gave to me"
Playmaker closed his eyes for a second and took a deep breath "Of course, Both you and Soulburner had Strong Bonds with your Ignises" He commented. He then opened his eyes "Aoi, While I'm gone Link VRAINS is going to need someone to protect it, I'm passing this responsibility on to you" He told her
Blue Maiden was briefly stunned at his confidence in her. She stared down at her duel disk where Aqua had once resided. Thinking back to the water Ignis and their brief time together. She then stared Playmaker in the eye. "If Link VRAINS needs me you can bet I'll be there to protect it. I promise you"
A small smile worked its way onto Playmaker's face. It only lasted for a second but it was there "Thank you. Now I think I've stalled this Duel long enough. I place two cards face down and end my turn. Now give me everything you've got Blue Maiden!. Show me I'm right to leave the protection of Link VRAINS to you!" he yelled. New determination in his voice.
Blue Maiden smiled at his enthusiasm before standing up straight and preparing to give her opponent everything she had. "Alright then Playmaker. I'll show you everything I've learned. It's my turn!. DRAW!" She yelled out
(Present Day)
Aoi sighed as she remembered the promise she had made. She told Yusaku that she would be the one to protect Link VRAINS but now, That the time had come and Link VRAINS needed her she didn't know if she could bring herself to keep that promise. Maybe this whole thing was a one time occurrence. Maybe she could beat the bad guy doing this and move on with her life.
Aoi had been so distracted by her thoughts she hadn't realized where she had ended up. She had walked to the square where Yusaku's friend Shoichi Kusanagi usually was in the afternoons. She knew Kusanagi was worried about Yusaku. She figured she should maybe go see how he was doing. Maybe ask if he had any insight on the deleted accounts and the blob of data. Aoi had been smart enough to save the image of whatever the hell that blob of data was to a flash drive so maybe it wouldn't be too bad of an idea.
She spotted the van parked in it's usual spot. The large screens in front of it advertising some new Sol Technologies product that she didn't care to know about. She walked over to the stand and saw Kusanagi cooking hotdogs with a smile on his face. "I'll have a hotdog and a coffee please" Aoi ordered calmly a small but friendly smirk on her face as she ordered.
Kusanagi glanced up to see who was ordering and his smile widened "Hey there Aoi!" He greeted with enthusiasm "How've thing's been". He was clearly happy to see her. Aoi visited the cafe regularly so she and Kusanagi spoke often. Sometimes about their lives, sometimes about Link VRAINS and rarely even wondering how Yusaku was doing.
"About the same thanks for asking, Is Jin not around today?" She asked curiously, unable to see Kusanagi's brother around the cafe.
Kusanagi shook his head, "Nah he's hanging out with some friends today, I'm glad that he's recovering enough to do things like that" Kusangi explained with genuine happiness in his voice as he continued to cook the hot dog for Aoi. "Anyways, what brings you here? School ended a few hours ago so you're not on your way back from there, Are you just that hungry?" He asked
Aoi Sighed, causing Kusanagi to look at her with worry. "I just… needed to get out to clear my head. Actually it's something you might be able to help with" She explained causing him to raise an eyebrow "It's Link VRAINS related" she further elaborated.
A knowing look made its way onto Kusanagi's face."Ah. Well give me a few minutes to close up shop and we can go over whatever it is that's got you worried" Kusanagi told her as he reached behind him and took off his apron and began to close the cafe.
Aoi nodded hesitantly. A bit surprised that he was willing to close up just like that to help her out. She figured it was due to the fact that she mentioned something was up with link VRAINS and the Kusanagi wanted to help out in keeping it safe in anyways he could. After all he had said that he wanted somewhere for Yusaku to come Back too.
The cafe looked a lot different when it was closed down. From the outside the van just looked like your average hot dog stand. But the inside when the van was shut up was quite different. On one side there was the kitchen area which was what Kusanagi used when preparing food during the day and on the other was a set of cabinets for storing pans and other kitchen materials. However when Kusanagi sat down and pressed a button the glass cabinets turned out to be screens and a holographic keyboard appeared on the kitchen surface.
"So what's got you all worried?" Kusanagi asked, placing a coffee cup down in front of her while sitting down at his computer desk. The same one he and Yusaku used to work at constantly.
Aoi took a quick sip from the coffee.A small smile at Kusanagi's concern before reaching into her jacket pocket and pulling out a flash drive "Today my brother came to me about something happening in link VRAINS" Aoi started
Kusanagi spoke before she could finish explaining "Let me Guess. This is about the accounts being deleted?" Kusanagi asked stunning Aoi for a brief second. She hadn't expected him to know.
"Yeah you guessed it. How'd you know?" She asked curiously wondering if Akira had asked for his help as well.
"It's big news on the net right now. Everyone's heard that a lot of users' accounts are being deleted. Never guessed that Akira would've heard about it though" Kusanagi explained "But the fact that this has gotten all the way to you and you've heard about it from your brother, the big boss man himself. Tells me that there's more to it than that". He explained. Hitting the nail on the head
Aoi nodded "You got it. First off and the biggest thing. The people who get their accounts deleted don't wake up in the real world" She explained slowly. Trying to focus and not think too much about what might be happening to those people.
Kusanagi's face shifted to a look of shock "Seriously?!" He almost yelled before he quickly composed himself "Damn that's… that's a lot worse than i expected. Let me guess. Your brother wants you to get to the bottom of it" He asked
Aoi once again nodded "Pretty much. Although I don't think I'm ready. I figured I should at least try to understand what's going on with this. So who else to go to than Playmaker's right hand man"
Kusanagi let out a chuckle "Well I for one think you made the right choice, Personal bias aside" he joked causing Aoi to chuckle as well "This reminds me of that incident that the knights of Hanoi caused back during their initial run. They have anything to do with it?".
"We don't think so. The Knights were only interested in destroying the Ignis. With them gone the knights have no reason to interfere with link VRAINS. Only lead we have is this" She said, sliding him the flash drive. He quickly picked it up and inserted it into one of the computers. The Image of the Data blob appearing on one of the large screens in the van, Kusanagi seemed to be studying it, trying to figure just what he was looking at "Someone was streaming just before their account was deleted. All we know is that this thing appeared and then there was a duel. After that nothing"
"What in the hell is this?" Kusanagi asked, still staring at whatever the hell was on his screen. "We know how the duel went?"
"No but judging by the fact the account is gone Id say it didn't go well for the guy," Aoi told him with a grim expression on her face. Kusanagi nodded in response.
"Alright well if we're gonna figure this out first we should probably look into what the hell that thing is. It's clear that this thing is responsible. First thing first we…" Kusanagi was cut off by an alert popping up on his screen "What's this?" He asked confused
"What is it" Aoi asked curiously. Watching as Kusanagi began typing furiously, a worried look on his face.
"One of my old sensors in Link VRAINS. While we were talking I ran the image of the data Anomaly through them to see if they'd detect anything " He explained with a wide-eyed look on his face "We've got a hit that thing is heading towards the center of Link VRAINS. If we don't stop it more people might end up suffering" Kusanagi explained with a serious look on his face as he continued to type on his keyboard.
Aoi stood up almost instantly but before she could say anything she hesitated. She knew what she had to do but she didn't know is she could "I need to get in there Kusanagi." Aoi told him "But i don't know if i can"
Kusanagi gave her a sympathetic look "Aoi i know you don't want to fight anymore and believe me neither do i. But I promised myself that Yusaku would have a home to come back to and that includes Link VRAINS. We can't let this thing harm anyone else" He told her
Aoi hesitated briefly. This was it. Crunch time. She had to decide now if she was willing to step and defend link VRAINS again. She looked at the image of the data anomaly. She was about to turn and run but when she remembered her promise to Yusaku and that Akira would be counting on her she made her decision.
"Alright let's do this" she said, reaching into her bag and equipping her duel disk "I'm going to protect Link VRAINS and I'm going to stop this thing".
Kusanagi pointed to the back of the van. To the blue door specifically. "In there's a room Yusaku always used when he needed to go to link VRAINS". He then reached into his desk and grabbed a data card "Slot this into your duel disk. It'll let me watch your duel and communicate with you as well as install a decent amount of firewalls onto your account" He explained "I'll try to get a hold of Soulburner to get you some backup but for now you need to go!"
Aoi didn't hesitate. She immediately slotted the card into her duel disk before dashing over to the back of the truck. The door opened and she dashed into the room, the door shutting behind her. She equipped her duel disk on her arm and let out a cry she hadn't let out in months.
"INTO THE VRAINS!"
Blue Maiden materialized on top of a building. She looked down at her hands as if confirming that they were indeed were and that meant one thing. Blue Maiden was officially back in Link VRAINS. She took a few deep breaths in preparation before regaining her focus. She ran towards one of the edges of the building and lept of the side of the building and quickly summoned her D-Board and landed on it. After taking a second to regain her balance she began to fly through the air of Link VRAINS. She couldn't help but smile. She had forgotten how much fun this was.
"Blue Maiden, do you read me?" Kusanagi's voice emitted from her duel disk
Blue Maiden raised her left arm to her face "Loud and clear" She Confirmed as she continued to speed through the air
"All Right good. You should be able to see whatever it is in about a minute. I've been trying to gather info on this thing but I've got nothing so you're going in blind" Kusanagi explained to her "I know that's not ideal but…"
"It's fine" She cut him off "Keep an eye on it I'll be there soon"
Blue Maiden flew through link VRAINS as fast as she could. The longer it took her the more time that thing had to hurt someone. She rounded a corner and finally managed to spot the "Anomaly" as Kusanagi had called it. She briefly changed her trajectory and began to head towards the thing. As she got closed she realized that it was headed towards some other duelists who where dueling nearby
"Dammit '' She said to herself "If it gets close enough it can intrude on their duel and who knows whats gonna happen then. I gotta stop it" She then sped up trying to get there as fast as she could.
The duelists in question themselves had no idea they were in danger. They were just having fun with their duel. That was until a large shadow encompassed both of them. They turned around and saw the large data blob and didn't know how to react. That's when the blob started to shape itself. It shrunk down and began to re-shape its body. It formed two arms and two legs and a d-board appeared below it. By the time it was finished it almost looked humanoid. However what made it horrifying is that it had no face.
It raised its duel disk and looked like it was going to intrude but just before it could Blue Maiden slammed into the side of it sending it flying away from the duelists.
"Get out of here now!" She yelled with seriousness in her voice
"Y..Y...Your Blue Maiden!" One of them realized starstruck at one of Link VRAINS Heroes being right in front of him.
Blue Maiden let out a small sigh "Listen you need to log out right now. Please just listen to me!" She pleaded desperately
The two looked at each other confused but eventually nodded and reached down to their duel disks and logged out of Link VRAINS. Blue Maiden let out a sigh before staring back in the direction she knocked the anomaly into and saw it heading back towards her. It stopped when it reached her and seemed to stare at her. Where its eyes would be flashed red before it spoke in a deep almost corrupted voice.
"Tertiary target located. Id Blue Maiden, Engaging" it spoke simply before raising its, A duel disk then morphed from its then sent out a red beam from its duel disk which hit Blue Maidens duel disk. Its voice then spoke out from Blue Maiden's duel disk "Duel Tether confirmed. Engaging with Speed Duel"
"The hell did you do!" Blue Maiden yelled out, concerned at what just happened to her Duel disk.
"It seems like its bound you to its own avatar" Kusanagi's voice said from her duel disk "I'll work on getting you free but for the only way it seems you'll be able to get to remove it is to beat that thing in a duel" He explained
"Beat it in a duel huh" Blue maiden repeated before whipping her head round and staring at the thing. It seemed to stare back, Waiting for her reaction "OK freak. You wanna duel, you got one. Ill get revenge for all the people you hurt" She yelled
At that the anomaly spoke again "Duel confirmed. Duel Deck selected. Engaging" It then flew next to Blue Maiden and both duelists then took off at full speed. Riding the winds perfectly.

"Speed Duel!" Blue Maiden yelled. The Anomaly said nothing. It didn't seem to care for her only whatever its twisted objective was.
"I'm starting this duel off, You can handle that right?" Blue Maiden Taunted as she swiped her hand and looked at the cards in her hand.

Blue Tang Appeared from a gate and floated calmly in front of Blue Maiden smugly looking at the Anomaly
"Blue Tang's special ability now activates. I can send a Marincess monster from my deck to my graveyard!" Blue Maiden explained "So I'll send Marincess Sea Horse"
"Strategy Recognized. Set to counter 1141" The Anomaly said
"Counter 1141. The Hell" Blue Maiden said out loud "Just what are you anyways!" She yelled at the anomaly.
The Anomaly didn't respond and just continued to fly forwards. Still Seeming not caring about her or what she did"
"Fine then if you don't wanna respond I guess I'll have to make you. Now Shine! The Circuit of love and bonds! Arrow Heads confirmed! The condition is one Marincess monster" Blue Maiden Began as she raised her hand to the sky and a gate appeared with eight orange arrows around it
A torrent of water surrounded Marincess Blue Tang. The torrent then aimed itself and filled in the down pointing arrow on the gate. Causing the gate to glow a bright orange colour.
"I link summon! Link One! Marincess Blue Slug!"

Marincess Blue Slug appeared and swam through the air in an arch before moving to position herself like she was sitting on the air.
"I'll activate Marincess Blue Slugs Special Ability. Now I can get back the Marincess Sea Horse from my Graveyard! Blue Maiden announced as she reached onto her duel disk and added the card to her hand "But that's not all. Marincess Blue Tangs effect lets me look at the top three cards of my Deck and get a Marincess card from among them to my hand" She explained
Blue Maiden swiped her hand left and looked at the three revealed cards. She saw Marincess Snow, Marincess Crown Tail and Marincess Mandarin after thinking for a few seconds she made her decision.
"I'll add Marincess Crown tail to my hand." She told her opponent as she returned the other two cards to her deck "Next up I'll special summon Marincess Sea Horse from my hand. I can now special summon her to Marincess Blue Slugs Link arrow!"

"Now appear once again the circuit of love and bonds! I'll set Blue Slug and Sea horse in the link markers!" Blue maiden announced as the gate appeared once again.
Torrents of water surrounded both Blue Slug and Seahorse. The torrents then aimed themselves before moving to fill in the down and left arrows of the gate
"I link summon! Link Two! Marincess Coral Anemone!" Blue Maiden cried

Coral Anemone Emerged from the gate and flew around the area at high speeds. Jets of water streaming behind it. It twirled in the air before settling in front of Blue Maiden.
"Compensating for change" The anomaly spoke "Shifting to counter 1143"
"Any idea what it's talking about Kusanagi?" Blue Maiden spoke into her duel disk. Trying to gain some kind of understanding as to what she was up against.
"Looks like it's changing its game plan depending on what you do" Kusanagi Explained sounding just as confused as her.
"Yeah that's what I thought as well. If only I knew what it was changing too." Blue Maiden said thoughtfully. "Guess I'll just have to find out! I activate Marincess Coral Anemone's ability. Now I can bring back Marincess Blue Tang to Coral Anemone's Link!"
Blue Tang Reappeared with the same smug look on her face behind Coral Anemone. The two monsters looked at each other and nodded before turning to face their opponent.
"Alright you two let's wrap this combo up. Appear one last time. The Circuit of love and bonds! Arrow Heads confirmed! The condition is two plus Water Monsters." Blue Maiden cried as one again both monsters beamed themselves into the link arrows Coral anemone split in two to fulfill two parts of the link monster's summoning condition with arrows pointing Left,Right and Down. "I LINK SUMMON! Let's do this link 3! Marincess Marbled Rock!"
Coral anemone split in two to fulfill two parts of the link monster's summoning condition with arrows pointing Left,Right and Down. A whirlpool emerged from the link gate and settled in front of Blue Maiden. But just as it did, multiple slashes from sharp claws cut the whirlpool open and Marincess Marbled Rock Appeared in front of Blue Maiden.

"And as it was used for a link Summon Marincess Coral Anemone lets me add Marincess Blue Tang back to my hand but there's more where that came from because with the effect of Marincess marbled rock I'm able to return Marincess Blue Slug to my extra deck!" Blue maiden explained as she re-added the two cards from her graveyard to her hand
The Anomaly face once again glowed red upon seeing Marbled Rock. "Card Confirmed, Marincess Marbled Rock. Changing to counter 2133" Its distorted voice spoke again.
"It changed its plan again, I better be prepared for anything" Blue Maiden thought to herself looking at the remaining cards in her hand. " I'll play one card face down and end my turn. Bring on it". She taunted as she finished her turn
"Turn Start. Draw" The Anomaly's voice spoke out with no emotion.

"Activating Continuous Spell Card. Dinomist Charge. Activating effect to add Dinomist Monster from deck to hand." The Anomaly announced. "Adding Monster Dinomist Plesios to hand" as a card appeared above its duel disk which it grabbed before it disappeared
"Dinomist? Wasn't expecting a deck like this from something like that" Blue Maiden Admitted but the Anomaly still gave no response
"Don't let your guard down. We don't know what he has planned yet" Kusanagi reminded her "It still could be dangerous"
"Wasn't planning on it" Blue Maiden told him refocusing her attention of the duel
"Analyzing opponents' field for optimal response. Optimal Response found. Using Scale three Dinomist Stegosaur and Scale six Dinomist Ankylos to set the Pendulum Scale"
Alongside the anomaly two columns of light appeared. A blue robotic Ankylosaurus and a green robotic Stegosaurus floated up into them and the numbers Six and Three appeared beneath them.

"Pendulum Scale!?" Blue Maiden exclaimed worriedly, "I haven't seen anything like this before! Maybe using a tactic I don't know is its plan to counter me"
The Anomaly didn't respond. It simply continued with its turn. "I'll now use the pendulum scale to summon monsters whose levels are four or five from my hand" The Anomaly explained as it scanned its hand for a few seconds"Selecting optimal targets." It spoke "Targets found conducting Pendulum summon"
A large portal opened in the sky between both of the monsters in the Pendulum zones. The two monsters let out mechanical roars as they fueled the energy of the portal. Eventually two streaks of light (One Blue and one Green) emerged from the portal and crashed down in front of the Anomaly.
"Pendulum Summon complete. Monsters summoned. Dinomist Rex. Dinomist Plesios"
The Blue Light emerged into a mechanical plesiosaurus with a propeller on its tail. However it was absolutely dwarfed by the other monster that was summoned from the green light. It was a Giant Mechanical T-Rex that barely fit in the space between the buildings they were flying through. Its eyes were blank before they suddenly flashed red and it let out a deafening roar.

"Two monsters at the same time!" Blue Maiden exclaimed "Pendulum Summoning. Just what kind of enemy am I fighting?" She questioned "Alright you may have caught me off guard with your fancy way of summoning but I'm afraid neither of the monsters you summoned have enough attack power to take down my Marbled Rock!"
"Incorrect" Was its simple reply causing a confused look to appear on Blue Maidens face. "Dinomist Plesios effect. Reducing opponent's monsters attack by one hundred points by the number of Dinomist cards on field Engaging"
"One-Hundred for each but that's five hundred attack points total" Blue Maiden realized
Marbled Rocks Body emitted a blue glow as her attack power was decreased The monster itself looked surprised as it felt its power drain

"Dinomist Rex's effect activates. Tributing Dinomist Plesios to select one of two effects. Selecting effect to shuffle one from opponents hand or field into deck and give Dinomist Rex one hundred extra attack points. Choosing to return Marincess Blue Tang to the deck" The Anomaly declared.

Blue Maiden was shocked as the Giant T-Rex let out a roar causing Blue Tang to disappear from her hand and the attack points of Dinomist Rex to Increase to that of Marbled Rock. However one thing that happened made her smile "You might've powered up your monster but by removing plesios from the field you've also given marbled rock her attack points back" Blue Maiden told her opponent while smiling at its apparent mistake

"And now that Plesios is back Marbled Rock will lose her attack points again" Blue Maiden muttered

"Engaging in combat. Dinomist Rex will attack Marincess Marbled Rock. Dinomist Destruction" The Anomaly ordered
Dinomist Rex threw back it's head before unleashing an incredible orange beam of energy towards Marincess Marbled Rock. Blue Maiden Briefly considered using one of her face down's to counter the card before she realized there was a better way
"Not a chance I'll activate Marbled Rocks special ability. Ill discard Marincess Crown Tail to stop Marbled Rock from being destroyed and as a bonus i take no damage" Blue Maiden countered
The energy beam that was about to hit Marbled Rock but the monster's claws began to glow a bright blue before it slashed at the beam causing it to dissipate. Protecting both itself and Blue Maidens life points
"Concluding Turn. Chances of victory. Ninety-Eight Percent" The anomaly lowered its duel disk as it concluded its turn
"That high huh. We'll see about that" Blue Maiden shot back at the Anomaly's apparent insult "It's my turn. I Draw"
Blue Maiden Hand 2 → 3
"Implementing counter strategy 2133." The anomaly suddenly said "Activating the effect of the monster Cyberse Spectrum" It declared
"It has a Cyberse card!?" Blue Maiden asked, shocked. "This shouldn't be happening, the only way he should have a Cyberse card is if he had connections to an Ignis!" She nearly yelled and clearly panicked about the fact that it had access to a card like that.
"Which makes it all the more concerning that he has one. Hang on Aoi. I'll get you out of there soon" Kusanagi told her.
Blue Maiden was about to counter his point and say she couldn't leave before the Anomaly cut her off. "The effect of Cyberse Spectrum negates the effects of any Cyberse monster opponent plays and reduces their attack points to zero. This will last until the end of my turn" It explained
A large rainbow aura surrounded Marbled Rock for a second before sending an electric like current through the monster causing Marbled Rock to yell out in pain as the card sapped all of her strength.

"Marbled Rock!" Blue Maiden yelled out of concern for her monster. Feeling helpless as she watched her monster suffer
But she had bigger problems. Cyberse Spectrum had completely locked her out of Cyberse monsters. Which was nearly all of the monsters in her deck. Which meant she had no way to try to take back the advantage on this turn. She looked at her cards and tried to figure out what her next move was. She had no way to go on the offense. All she could do was reinforce her defenses and hope to figure out some way to survive until her next turn.
"I'll play a monster face down in defense mode" Blue Maiden announced an a face down card appeared in front of her "That'll have to do for now" She grimaced as she ended her turn without doing much of anything
"Opponent is out of moves. Chances of victory… one-hundred percent. Draw" The anomaly started its turn by making a declaration that victory was guaranteed.

"Summoning Dinomist Pteran" The anomaly declared as a robotic pterodactyl with jet engines appeared in front of it

The giant mechanical tyrannosaurus let out a deafening roar once again as Blue Maidens face down monster was forced from her field back to her deck leaving her with just her powerless Marincess Marbled Rock.

"Securing skill Dinomist Overdrive" The anomaly announced
"It has a skill as well!?" Blue Maiden asked, growing more and more concerned. The duel was seemingly slipping further and further out of her control and there was nothing she could do to stop it.
"Increasing attack power of all Dinomist monsters by one-thousand until the end of opponent's turn" The anomaly announced as its body began to emit a dark black aura that extended over to his two monsters. Both of them let out roars. It took Blue Maiden a few seconds to figure out that those where roars of pain
"He..He's hurting his own monsters with that skill. I need to end this soon, If i can" She thought to herself

"Initiating Duel End Process. Dinomist Rex attacks Marincess Marbled Rock. Dinomist Destruction" The anomaly ordered
Dinomist Rex threw its head back as it before but this time it let out another roar. Its mechanical body began to make a loud creaking noise and sparks began to emit from it. Dinomist Rex was suffering. The anomaly was voluntarily making its own monsters suffer. It finally unleashed the attack unlike the last one; this was a dark black stream of energy. It quickly connected with Marincess Marbled Rock causing the monster to burst into a puddle of water which quickly dissipated. The stream continued through Marbled Rock and crashed into Blue Maiden. She let out a shriek of pain as the attack hit her.

The force of the attack nearly knocked Blue Maiden from her D-board and she fell down on one knee breathing heavily. "What the…that actually hurt. What the hell is that thing?" She thought to herself trying to focus. She shakily stood up after taking the hit. "I have to get back to this. I can't afford to lose" She thought to herself. She refused to let Yusaku down.
"This duel is not over and I plan to prove it!. " Blue Maiden yelled at the Anomaly.
"Your chances of victory are zero percent." The Anomaly informed her bluntly. Responding to her for the first time in the duel.
"The only thing that's zero is the chance that I'll give up!," Blue Maiden shot back. "And I'll show you that by using the power Aqua gave to me! I'll activate my skill! Shape of Sea!" She cried out
Blue Maiden Held her hands out in front of her and put her middle and index fingers together on both hands and then crossed them. A pair of angel wings then sprouted out of her back and a torrent of water erupted in front of her..
"As I took damage, Shape of Sea lets me bring back a Marincess monster from my graveyard who's attack points are equal to or lower than the damage I took and I know just who to bring back. Welcome back!. Marincess Coral Anemone!" She cried out

"Unforeseen Strategy. Countermeasures already in place Cyberse Spectrum's effect reduces that monster's attack points to zero and negates its special abilities" The Anomaly said to itself.
The same large rainbow aura that surrounded Marbled Rock surrounded Coral anemone for a second before sending an electric like current through the monster causing it to yell out in pain as the card sapped all of her strength. Just like it had to Marbled Rock.

"Refocusing efforts on ending the duel. Dinomist Plesios attacks Marincess Coral anemone. Dinomist Stream" The Anomaly ordered
Plesios opened its mouth and a pitch black stream of water erupted from it. If the attack connected with Coral Anemone then Blue Maiden would lose the rest of her life points and the duel.
"Blue Maiden, you need to get out of there now!" Kusanagi's panicked voice came through the duel disk.
"No!" She yelled back. "I made a promise that I'd protect this world and I won't ever break it." She yelled out with determination "You hear me?!. I won't let any harm come to link VRAINS and I'll make sure of it by defeating you!. I activate the Trap Marincess Bubble Ring. Now when your monster attacks me this ring prevents that attack from connecting"
A large bubble surrounded the Stunned Coral Anemone. The Black stream of water connected with the Bubble. The Bubble deflected the hit successfully protecting Coral Anemone and the few life points Blue Maiden had left.
"And that's not all this Trap does. Now as I successfully negated your attack I can bring out a new monster from my extra deck. Aqua and Earth both sacrificed themselves for this world and this card embodies that bond. Link 2! Marincess Crystal Heart!" Blue Maiden cried out.

A smoke-like figure appeared on the battlefield surrounding a blue heart made of Crystal. The monster as it took its place on the battlefield in front of Marincess Coral Anemone. Aoi looked at the monster and smiled. It was thanks to both Earth and Aqua that she was still in this duel.
"Analyzing new monster. No current way to defeat Blue Maiden this turn. Ending turn. Chances of victory next turn one-hundred percent" The Anomaly said as it ended its turn.
"And don't forget with the end of your turn comes the end of Cyberse Spectrum's special ability so my monsters gain their attack points back!" she declared

Blue Maiden closed her eyes as she reached for her draw. She had one card in mind that could win her the duel. If she drew it she could deal enough damage to win but she needed that card specifically. Blue Maiden took a deep breath before making her move "It's my turn!. I DRAW!" She yelled a wave being thrown out as she moved her arm after the draw.

Blue Maiden took a deep breath before looking at the card she drew. She paused for a few seconds. Before a large smile found its way onto her face .
"Perfect" She cheered "I summon Marincess Sea Horse!" Blue Maiden declared

"Shine! The circuit of Love of bonds!. The condition is one Marincess monster. I set Marincess Sea horse in the link marker. I link Summon. Come on out Link 1 Marincess Sea Angel" Blue Maiden declared
Marincess Sea Angel burst out of a torrent of water before floating down next to Coral Anemone. The two monsters looked at each other and smiled before refocusing themselves on the duel.
"Marincess Sea Angels Special ability lets me add one Marincess spell card from my deck to my hand" Blue Maiden explained "So I'll be adding my field Spell Marincess Battle Ocean which I'll now activate!." Blue Maiden Declared
The sky around them changed into a dark blue colour and the air around them appeared to turn into water as it felt like they were gliding through the ocean.
"Chances of victory decreased to ninety-three percent and dropping" The Anomaly stated
"Oh you haven't seen anything yet. Alright Shine! The circuit of Love of bonds! The conditions are two or more Water monsters. I set Marincess Coral Anemone and Marincess Crystal Heart in the link markers" Blue Maiden declared
Both Coral Anemone and Crystal Hear split into two columns of water each before beaming themselves into the gate's link markers. Blue Maiden closed her eyes and placed a hand over her heart before beginning a chant.
"Heart of the deep blue ocean!. Gather to my field and show our opponent the power of the bond we all share! Let's go! I link summon! Link Four! Marincess Wonder Heart" Blue Maiden cried out
Marincess Crystal Heart reappeared but another monster began to form around it. The monster twirled creating ripples in the water before Crystal Heart locked itself on the monster's chest. This was one of Blue Maidens Strongest Monsters. Marincess Wonder Heart.

"Dinomist Plesios' effect decreases that monsters attack points by five hundred as there are five Dinomist cards in play" the Anomaly declared
"Not a chance! My field spell protects Wonder Heart from all your special abilities as she was summoned with Marincess Crystal Heart" Blue Maiden countered with a wide smile on her face.
"Chance of victory decreased to sixty-four percent" The Anomaly stated after hearing that.
"Oh there's so much more to it. As Marincess Wonder Heart was summoned to the Extra Monster Zone the special ability of battle ocean activates equipping three Marincess Link monsters from my graveyard to her to increase her attack points by six hundred for each one! So Coral Anemone,Crystal Heart and Blue Slug lend your power to Wonder Heart!" Blue Maiden Cried out
Ghost Like Figures of the three link monsters appeared in front of Wonder Heart. Then one by one they all entered the heart on Marincess Wonder Heart's chest and then Marincess Wonder Heart started glowing with a bright blue aura.
"And not only that but my field spell gives her an extra two hundred attack points as well Making for a two thousand attack point boost!" Blue Maiden announced

"But I can increase that power even more by discarding my monster Marincess Sea Star!. Now one my Marincess Wonder Heart gains eight-hundred attack points Until the end of this turn!
Marincess Wonder Heart glowed a bright red colour as her Attack Points where increased even further

"Chance of Victory has dropped to Thirty Percent" The Anomaly spoke. Its voice was still deadly calm.
"Alright Marincess Wonder Heart. Let's put your power to good use. Attack Dinomist Rex! Wonderful Wave!" Blue Maiden declared
Marincess Wonder Heart leapt into the air and drew a blue and silver cutlass. It then dived down and slashed at Dinomist Rex. Dinomist Rex let loose another beam of energy in an attempt to counter the attack.
"Marincess Wonder Hearts special ability activates! I can now special summon one of the monsters equipped to her!. So come out for the final time, Marincess Coral Anemone!" Blue Maiden Cried
A blue beam shot out from the Crystal heart on Wonder Hearts' chest and from it emerged Marincess Coral Anemone hovered next to Marincess Sea Angel.

Marincess Wonder Hearts Attack Finally managed to cut through Dinomist Rex's energy beam and slice through the monster. The monster let out one last deafening roar before it exploded finally putting the monster out of its pain of the Dark Aura

"That's true but not for long!" Blue Maiden taunted "I play the card I drew!. The trap Marincess Circulation! Now by returning Marincess Wonder Heart to my Extra Deck. I can summon a Marincess Link Monster with the same link rating as it!" Blue Maiden explained
Marincess Wonder Heart was surrounded in a veil of water that obscured it completely from view as Blue Maiden began another chant ""The mother ocean's deep blue! Gather in my hand for the power of affection and purification! Link Summon! Appear, Link Four! Marincess Great Bubble Reef!"
The veil of water burst open revealing not Marincess Wonder heart but Blue Maidens second link four monster. Marincess Great Bubble Reef. The monster she planned to win this duel with

"Now go Marincess Great Bubble Reef attack and destroy Dinomist Plesios. Deep Sea Stream!" She commanded
Bubble Reef summoned a large torrent of water and aimed it at Dinomist Plesios. She then sent the attack at Dinomist Plesios planning to destroy the monster so Coral Anemone could finish the duel.
"Activating Dinomist Stegosaur Pendulum ability. It will substitute Plesios' destruction with its own" The Anomaly explained
The Stegosaur in the Anomaly's pendulum zone then exploded but the shards from the destroyed monster fell down to block the attack from hitting Plesios this however didn't stop the attack from damaging the Anomaly

"You might have saved Plesios from that attack but here's one thing you didn't account for. I banish the Marincess Bubble Ring in my Graveyard to play its special ability!." Blue Maiden yelled with a sense of finality to her tone "Now Marincess Great Bubble Reef can make attacks equal to the amount of link markers she has. So that's three more attacks coming your way!."
Three circular rings made of water surrounded Marincess Great Bubble Reef before she emitted a bright blue glow. The monster let out a cry as it prepared for its next attack.
"Chance Of Victory….. Zero Percent" The Anomaly spoke seeming Realizing it was defeated
"GO! Marincess Great Bubble Reef attack Dinomist Plesios and ends this Duel! " Blue Maiden Declared punching her fist forwards as she ordered the final attack. "Deep Sea Stream!" She cried out
Great Bubble Reef unleashed another torrent of water fueled by one the rings that disappeared from around her, The Dinomist Plesios fired off another torrent of black water in an attempt to counter Marincess Great Bubble Reefs attack but it was futile. The attack easily sliced through the counter attack and crashed into Plesios. Swiftly destroying it before continuing on to crash into the Anomaly. Knocking it from its D-Board.

Blue Maiden → Winner
The Anomaly went spiraling to the ground after it was knocked from its D-Board. Blue Maiden went after it hoping to catch it before it hit the Ground. However she was far too slow as the Anomaly crashed into the ground long before she managed to catch up with it.
"Damn it" She whispered as she flew down to the ground and landed near where the Anomaly had crashed. She was concerned she would see exploded goop everywhere or something but when she landed there was just… Nothing.
She saw the area where it had made impact with the ground due to the cracks in the ground but there was no sign of the Anomaly. She did however notice that in the center of the impact sight there was a card that the Anomaly had left behind. She walked over to it and picked it up and looked at what card it was. It was the monster that had nearly lost her the duel. Cyberse Spectrum
"Kusanagi, are you still there?" Blue Maiden asked. Hoping to get some help analyzing what she just witnessed
"Yeah. Well done on the win. Seeing you pull back the duel like that reminded me of Yusaku" Kusanagi told her. She could hear the smile in his voice and couldn't help but smile at the compliment "But as for idea's I got nothing right now. I was hoping it would leave something else behind but we might be able to get a lot out of that card. Especially considering its a Cyberse" He explained
"Right. I'll see you when I've logged out. Something tells me the net is already abuzz about Blue Maiden being back" Blue Maiden sighed.
"You would be right. Don't worry though you'll have a few minutes until they get there" Kusanagi laughed "See you in a couple of minutes"
Blue Maiden signed before finally deciding to log out. But not before taking a look around at Link VRAINS and couldn't help but smile as only one thought went through her mind. It was good to be back.
What Blue Maiden didn't realize was that there was a figure standing on the ledge of a building above her watching her as she logged out. After a few seconds the figure raised their arm and spoke into their duel disk. "Master the prototype was defeated. Blue Maiden showed up and it apparently wasn't prepared for a duelist of her caliber" The figure spoke in a feminine voice.
There was a response from her duel disk but it was unintelligible to most. The figure nodded in understanding. "I understand sir. I will be sure to deal with Blue Maiden. Personally!" They declared confidently
