Carlisle stared at the two-story house the young woman had entered. He had not expected to meet someone who looked near identical to Aro, let alone a female human, in all his life. It was not just her appearance though, her scent and the way she carried herself was very similar to the king. He remembered back when he lived with the Volturi and the one time he found Aro sitting alone in an empty room of the Volterra castle. The way he was sitting and staring out the window was very out of character for him. It seemed he was in mourning; the only source of light was a single candle that he had lit and allowed the wax to melt. Aro did sense his presence, and Carlisle was going to leave him alone at the time when he time Carlisle why he was there. It was the anniversary of the day he was transformed into a vampire, a day Carlisle had thought would be a good day to him. But Aro had explained that it was not, and he was a more cowardly person than what he knew of him. He told Carlisle he had a daughter who turned ten years old on the day he was transformed, and he was too scared to return to her with the fear of killing her. And he never went back to even see if she was safe, the guilt and regret was still heavy on his shoulders. Aro had pushed those memories aside to remain the cruel, cold leader that he is, but it was a rare moment that Carlisle had actually seen Aro vulnerable emotionally. If vampires could cry, he would have been sobbing. He did not know everything about his daughter, he only knew that Aro said she was special, and she could be immortal. He did not believe so until today. But perhaps that was just a coincidence, and she is just someone born with very similar features to Aro. The little voice in his mind was telling him otherwise, there was something about this girl that he had to investigate. He knew he had to tell his family as Edward would read his mind easily about the girl. He did not know if he should approach her again as she seemed to live alone in that house, but he hoped to at least talk to again in the future.
Several hours later
Carlisle rubbed the temple of his forehead after telling his family about the girl he had met, and his assumption she could be Aro's daughter. This alarmed the family as they were not away about this history of Aro as Carlisle had felt it was not needed to tell anyone. But it was needed now, and he could only stare at the picture of the Volturi on the wall in their house.
"Do you think we should contact Aro and tell him?" Bella asked, her gaze lingered on the painting long enough to cause a shiver down her spine. She had not forgotten that they almost killed her.
"I am afraid Aro would laugh at us Bella, he has pushed his daughter far into the back of his mind. I know we should tell him, but I have a feeling we need to convince both of them." Carlisle turned away from the picture to sit down. Despite being a vampire, this news really weighed heavily on his shoulders. "I think I will approach her again in a few days and talk to her."
"Is that not dangerous?" Edward frowned. "You said she seemed a lot like Aro, and the fact she could be immortal tells me she is dangerous."
"I appreciate your concern, she is indeed dangerous but I do not think she would attack unprovoked. I also think that she has tried more than once to reach out to Aro, and he did not reciprocate to any of her attempts. I think this will be very hard for them both."
"But what about the newborn vampires?" Jasper questions. "I understand that this is important, but we do need to take care of the problem."
"I agree, I do wish to talk to the girl before we deal with the vampires," Carlisle said, he leaned back in his chair as he thought on what to do. "And as much as we all should meet her, I will talk with her alone. This will be sensitive, and I think I will be the best for the job for the time being. But if she responds positively, I expect everyone to welcome her. She might be Aro's child, but I think there is a lot of pain and anger that she has for him. Especially since he left her when she was ten years old, and you cannot blame her for that."
He eyed Rosalie as he knew her contempt towards Bella was still here, but Rosalie seemed less angry about this than knowing about a human falling for Edward and him responding to her as well. "I think I should be the next one in the family she should meet," Esme suggested. "I do not want to overwhelm her, and I think she'll be more comfortable with everyone else once she has established trust with the two of us."
"That was somewhere along the lines of my plan." Carlisle smiled lovingly at his wife. "And if anyone here thinks she should help with the newborns, I would remove those thoughts. That fight does not, and will not include someone who was never involved in the first place. Especially with the possibility of the Volturi watching this situation."
"Understood Carlisle," Edward said with a smile. "I am surprised you have not seen in her Alice."
"Um…I never have Edward," She respond with a frown. "I find it odd that cannot see her future. And perhaps, there is a good reason for it. I would rather not see the future of somebody who could be a danger to us. We have to hope that will be on good terms with this girl." Alice glanced outside at the snowfall, the gush of wind hitting the house was so sudden that it surprised all of them. But it only lasted a few minutes. "And I have a feeling some of our weather events are more than meets the eye."
"Nothing in this world can control the weather," Bella said with a scoff. "The only mythical creatures that can do that are the gods and goddesses, and in some cultures, dragons."
"And we were once a supernatural fantasy to you Bella," Edward said in a matter-of-fact tone. "Do not base your knowledge and logic on everything you have read and seen until now as there is always something to learn. I must admit though, the idea of a dragon scares me."
"Me too, but we have no choice but approach her," Carlisle reassured his family. "Now please, allow me to work on this plan and you focus on the newborns. We cannot hold back for much longer."
His family nod and leave Carlisle alone in his study. The vampire's eyes did gaze at his phone as he considered calling Aro, but he knew he would only be talking to deaf ears. Aro never spoke to him about his daughter again after that one day, and he was sure that Aro would kill him if he did. But for his sake, Carlisle hoped that he was not wrong about this girl.
Three days later
Another morning, what was the point? Staring at the ceiling with darkness under the eyes normally would not bother her, sleep was something she did not need as much as humans. But the nightmares of her father abandoning her and the terrors she has faced has been filling her mind extremely hard as of late. This always happens when her birthday is only a few months away. It hurt, and it made it extra hard to get out of bed each morning. She has not needed to get out of bed for anything for years, only to garden, forage and hunt, and with winter there was not much to do other than to check the crab traps and cut firewood. She did consider going out to roll in the snow, the chill of the air and ground felt nice on her skin when she needed some comfort. People normally sought out warmth for comfort, but she did not. It was not uncommon for Saphira to fly to the Arctic at the height of winter and stay there for weeks, like Elsa in Frozen, the cold did not bother. Not with the fire that kept burning with her and the ability to create ice and cold fire. She breathed deeply, rolling onto her side to look at the side table. Sitting on there was a doll, a very worn doll that was nearly as old as her. It was stuffed with wool with a purple dress and button eyes, the hair was made of yarn that has been nibbled at by moths. This doll was a cherished memory of hers, her father made it for her when she was only a toddler and she never lost it since. A heavy knock on the front door pulled Saphira from her thoughts and sit up with a frown. Nobody has knocked on her door before, and she thought she was dreaming until she heard it again. Saphira thought it might be a hunter, but that would be foolish as they were all killed by her years ago. She stood up, allowing her red nightie to fall to her ankles and grabbed her black cold to walk to the front door. She did not know who to expect until she opened the door and saw Carlisle waiting there.
"Good morning, I hope I did not disturb you," He said politely. "I wanted to be sure you were okay after our sudden meeting the other day. It is a bit chilly, but I thought you had frozen in this house."
Saphira studied Carlisle, he was nervous. He had no weapon on him, there was no scent of metal or gunpowder, so he was not here to fight. She frowned at him and breathed deeply. "I believe I warned you about trespassing, I shall be calling the police."
Saphira turned to grab the phone when Carlisle forced the screen door open and grabbed her wrist. "Please do not, it would be bad for the two of us if you do. I do not want to fight, I just want to talk."
The girl stared at Carlisle curiously. She did not know why he was here, but she assumed it was to ask for her help regarding Seattle. "Talk about what?"
"You know what I am do you not?" He asked, avoiding the question as he wanted to be sure he could trust her.
Sighing, Saphira pulled her wrist from his hand and crossed her arms. "Yes, vampire, I do know what you are. I have been watching you and your family since you came to be here among the mountains. What did you want to talk about? I am not here to fight your battle for you."
He seemed relieved at her response and smiled gently at her. "I am not here to ask for your help, that is unfair because we really only just met. Please, let us talk in your living room. I believe there is much to discuss."
"Fine, this had better be worth it vampire," Saphira snarled, turning her heel with her hair nearly slapping Carlisle's face. She walked into her living room and took a seat on a tall, red couch and crossed her legs. The vampire took a seat gently next to her. "You have five minutes."
