Saphira relaxed on the couch as Carlisle greeted the Quiluetes at the front. She listened quietly and it seemed the wolves were not really thrilled to be here, even though Carlisle reassures them that it is worth their while and they needed to meet someone who has been around the area for some time. Of course, they thought she is another vampire and that they should be worried about her, but they would find out very shortly. Saphira remained on the couch as the footsteps made their way upstairs until she saw the ten members of the pack enter the room. Saphira already knew who they were, she has seen them from afar, and Sam Uley looked at her almost immediately when he reached the next floor. He seemed relieved she was not a vampire given her emerald green eyes.
"Carlisle, is this the person you want us to meet?" Sam asked, turning to the vampire seemingly disappointed. "Another human among us, when will you stop bringing them into your circle with the intention of transforming them?"
"I would not worry Sam," Saphira said in a soft, slightly cold tone which snapped his attention back to her. "I am not a human, nor am I a vampire. However, I have been around for almost as long as the head of the Volturi. I am sure the Cullens here have told you about them."
Jacob nods with a disgusted scowl. "Yeah, some royal vampires that give rules to the rest of the world. And yet, they seem perfectly okay with Seattle being in disarray and the unborn army coming here." He paused for a moment and looked at her with a more serious expression. "Your scent is familiar. You have been around here for a while it would seem. If you are not human, vampire or wolf, then what are you?"
Smiling with a slight hum, Saphira stood up and brushed down her robe. "Let's just say, I have scales and breath fire." Sam and Jacob were the first to understand what she meant as they widen their eyes in fear after she spoke those words. "However, that is not the main issue here. You see, my father is the reason why you need to be told about me."
The wolves were confused, the vampires were amused by how Saphira was dragging this out. "You should just tell them Saphira," Carlisle said sternly. "I can tell you like to play a bit, but they need to know."
"Actually, I just realized," Jacob said as he cocked his head to one side. "I remember seeing a picture of the Volturi upstairs. You look exactly like the leader in the middle. Is he your father?"
Sadness washed over her and she lowered her eyes, nodding. "Yes, yes he is. I have been trying for years to get back to him, but he never reciprocates. Or, he hasn't so there is a plan to try and get him to come here and face me."
The wolves look at each other, they were concerned about the information that was just given to them. However, Sam seemed sympathetic to her, he could see how sad she was, and he realized that a lot must have happened for her to feel such pain. He guessed she was abandoned and that is why she was trying to get back to him.
"Did…uh, I do not know if it is my place to ask," Sam said slowly, rubbing the back of his neck. He was nervous about upsetting a dragon as he has never faced one before. Saphira looked up at him. "Did he leave you?"
"He did, on my tenth birthday is the day he was transformed," Saphira explained. "He went out to get water from the well that night, we were going to celebrate by making a special stew together after I had caught some wild hares. It was going to be fun. But he never came back. I thought someone had killed him, but I went to the well and the bucket was on the ground. But there was no Aro. I know he was scared of hurting me physically, but I would have preferred that then many millennia of emotional and mental pain that I still go through every single day. I know you dislike vampires, but…"
"Please, do not feel the need to apologise," Sam interrupts Saphira. "We understand perfectly. I just request that it is not done where humans are at risk. I do not want to make you angry by killing him for harming a human."
She understood perfectly well that the wolves would protect humans. But she would too, and she would kill anyone who would kill her father. "Very well. But know this, I will kill if my father is killed. Keep that in mind, and I will make it slow, painful and make you beg for death. Or, I know a thing or two about puppetry…at least my way." Saphira's eyes darkened, everyone in the room were frightened by Saphira's admission to what she would do to someone should they kill Aro. "So I would implore that you do not do that. I can keep Aro from harming humans myself."
There was silence for a few minutes. Saphira looked around and chuckled for a moment before grabbing another wedding magazine to look through. Sam and the pack were glancing at each other silently while deciding on what to do.
Carlisle glanced between Sam and Saphira for a few minutes before speaking. "Uh, I am sorry. I did not know she would say that. But we do plan on getting Aro's attention."
"It is okay. I…I can see that she has lived a long enough life to get to that point. And she is in pain," Sam responds gently. He glanced at Saphira. "You have my word that your father will not be touched. You will have that task if it comes to that."
Saphira understood what he was saying, though Saphira was unlikely to harm Aro even if he killed a human. He is a vampire and needed to feed, so she saw that as a reason to not bring harm to him. She would only hurt him if Aro refused to believe her to be his child. Then she would truly believe her father did die on the day of his transformation. She doubts it would happen, but it was still a possibility.
"Thank you Sam, and I myself will not be an issue to you. I live alone and mostly isolated, my enemies have all been vanquished and you will not have a dragon problem," Saphira said in a reassuring tone, she knew they were afraid of her as a dragon is a very strong and powerful creature. "And if you ask me, this truce you have is a good thing. Not all vampires kill humans, the Cullens are not the only ones who choose not to feed on humans."
The wolves and vampires smile at each other, though some of the pack were not entirely pleased by the compliment as they still hated the Cullens. But with someone like herself acknowledging that the truce was good, it seemed to hit home in the good spot. Jacob glanced at the magazines on the table and scrunched up his face. Saphira noticed, she knew there was something between him and Bella, and he wanted something more than just a friendship. She certainly could tell that.
"I see you are helping with the wedding." Bella glanced at the magazines and looked at Jacob with sad expression. He ignored her while looking at Saphira. "I bet you have attended many."
"I have. But weddings are not my thing either, so I am just reading through these casually. There is only so much an at home wedding can offer." Saphira shrugged and stood up with a sigh. "But I think it is better it is not spoken about. I sense there is tension between you and Bella."
Bella stood up quickly. "We can keep going through this though Saphira."
"When they leave, yes," Saphira smiled. Her eyes gazed on Jacob quietly. "And do not despair Jacob, I have a sense that something good will come to you soon. I do not know what, but I do have a sense of someone's future."
"Like Alice?" He gestures to the short haired vampire curiously.
"Not quite, I do not receive visions like she does. Mine comes from foresight and the whispers of nature. I unfortunately do not get the same thing regarding my father, but for others I do." She walked forward and pats his shoulder gently. "I know you have a love for Bella, but there is something good for you coming soon. I would just wait for that."
The young man seemed relieved upon hearing that. Bella herself was confused and unsure if Saphira should have given Jacob hope. But Saphira knew that Jacob needed something like that. Edward was not worried about Jacob, but her words to the werewolf did make him happy that Jacob may find someone soon.
Esme walked over as Saphira reached the top of the stairs. "Are you not going to stay and eat? I thought you were hungry." She looked at Saphira with a concerned expression with the wolves glancing at the vampire curiously. "I know you told us you do not eat much and that dragons generally don't, but your anxiety could be feeding that too. The pasta dish is almost ready."
"I did not know you could cook," Lean said with disdain, not believing that a vampire can cook food for humans.
Esme glanced at Leah and chuckled. "Well, we had to learn in order to cater to Bella and her friends. Besides, we like being able to use the kitchen and everyone has since loved our food. I've made enough for the pack too if you would like some."
Saphira knew it was rude to turn away a meal offered to her. She smiled and faced Esme. "I am sorry, I honestly forgot that I would eat something. I am just not used to being pleaded with to have something though."
"And we do it because we care," Carlisle said, gesturing to the kitchen. "Feel free to taste test it if you would like."
Saphira chuckled softly and walked into the kitchen. She followed the aroma of the dish to the stove and grabbed a spoon to take a small bit of the pasta. She ate it and smiled, licking and smacking her lips. Bella chuckled as she knew the Cullens made very good food.
"This is pretty good. Sam, you and your pack will love it too," Saphira said, turning to face them with a smile. She glanced at Esme who was pleased with this and returned to the stove. "Maybe I can make a bit of salad on the side."
"That would wonderful, we have lettuce, cucumber, tomato, zucchini, onion and such in the fridge if you want to make it up," Carlisle said, opening the fridge to pull out the ingredients.
Saphira smiled and walked over to grab the ingredients to make the salad. Seeing how the vampires interacted with Saphira and the food made the pack see that the vampires did treat them like family. It was a shame they could not eat the food with them, it would make this a whole lot better. The pack remained for lunch and Saphira spoke a little more about her own life. She went into detail where she lived in a part of Europe where there were no human settlements for five hundred years, there she made a luscious garden full of fruit and vegetables that she preserved, and she actually was on an almost complete vegetarian diet. But she did have chickens, duck, cows, sheep and goats, and they provided milk, eggs, wool and meat during that time. Saphira knew Forks was not a place to grow food as it was very cold so she could not have a garden. But it did mesmerize the vampires and wolves that she lived in a paradise for those years, never to be disturbed. It was one of those rare times where hunters did not attack her and that she did not pursue Aro. After that time the preparation for Bella and Edward's wedding continued, and Saphira remained involved with it. She was not terribly excited as weddings were generally the same, and she was more preoccupied with thinking about Aro as well. However, Saphira was starting to get a strong sense that something will happen that would cause Aro to come to America, and she could not pin point exactly what that is yet.
