"Fuck!"

"…Is it just me, or did that four year old child just say 'fuck'?"

"Katsuki."

And- has their Clan Head ever sounded so despairing?

"Katsuki, we talked about this."

"I know."

"What did we say?"

"Not to say 'fuck' in front of strangers," he repeats in a droning sort of voice all children use when forced to repeat things their parents tell them, the kind which effortlessly conveys how ridiculous they believe such reminders to be and how annoying it is to have to say them themselves. Stubborn indignation floods his entire body as he retorts, "But they're not strangers. They're family."

Faced with such a reaction to his scolding, Fugaku suddenly looks like he could use a stiff drink. "People you don't know are strangers, Katsuki, even if they're other Uchiha."

Looking mutinous, the little kid walks over to where Reiko and Hisagi are still frozen in shock and glares up at them, scowling fiercely.

"Uh…" Hisagi says, not knowing what to do. Is there a protocol for what to do when your Clan Head's son is staring at you like he wants to burn you to death? He doesn't know but desperately wishes that he did.

"My name's Katsuki." The kid announces, every word pulled so begrudgingly from his mouth that you'd think he was being held at knifepoint. His expression is both imperious and expectant, waiting impatiently for them to respond to a question he didn't ask.

He shares a look with Reiko, who gives the Uchiha equivalent of a shrug. He spares a glance toward where Fugaku is watching all of this, silent as a statue and no indication of how he feels one way or another on his face. He looks back down to Katsuki, whose scowl has deepened just the slightest bit in the interval.

Clearly, his Clan Head isn't going to intervene, and he's not about to piss off him or his son. So.

Not having been raised a fool, Hisagi gets with the program. "My name is Hisagi. It's nice to meet you, Katsuki-kun."

"My name is Reiko. It's a pleasure." His partner speaks up beside him, no hint of her bewilderment in her expression, but Hisagi knows her well enough to spot it after all these years.

Katsuki gives them the tiniest dip of his head, a barely respectful nod, and strides back over to his father to glare up at him. Reiko and Hisagi both release a relieved breath.

"Fucking there. We're not strangers anymore. Happy?"

The strangest thing, Hisagi thinks, sharing another look with Reiko, is not that a small Uchiha child is using such vulgar language - though it is a strong contender - but that their ever frowning Clan Head actually does seem to be amused.

What the hell, Reiko conveys to him with a small shift in her expression.

What the hell, indeed.
