Being a werewolf is exhilarating! He had no idea how long he had been traipsing through the forests of Mystic Falls. Elijah was not too far behind him, he knew. He does have an incredible sense of smell now, even better than the one that 1000 years of being an original had given him. Which is how he was able to sense Caroline amidst the forest. The shock, or perhaps the worry, caused him to shift out of his werewolf form. He was quickly covered by Elijah.
"It is nice to have you back, brother."
He tilted his head toward Caroline's body.
"Is that?"
"Nik, what are you doing here?" she looked up at her husband, smiling brightly.
"It's Kára."
"What is it, the eleventh century?" he had not called her that in a long time.
"Not exactly," Elijah responded to both of them.
"Ah, Elijah. What are you doing here?" she repeated her question with a different expression.
"What do you mean 'not exactly'?" Nik asked.
"I believe that the werewolf bite has regressed her consciousness to past versions of herself."
"Versions? Has this happened before?" she questioned. "Will it happen again?"
"I could not be sure either way. To my knowledge, this is the first 'version.' What do you remember?"
"I was about to leave Spain to meet you in England."
"1490?"
"What year are we in?" she agreed.
"2010."
"Wow. You know, I thought it would last longer." Before anyone could ask her what she meant, she collapsed to the ground.
"Caroline!"
After a few moments, Caroline began to stir.
"Katarina will want to see her like this, I will be back shortly."
When Caroline woke up, she glanced up at Nik and began kissing her husband. He met the passionate kiss. After a few moments, Nik broke the kiss.
"Why did you stop? We're vampires, you know, don't need as much air," she grinned knowingly at him, going in for another kiss.
"We need to talk," he claimed before she could reach his lips.
She looked at him confused.
"You were cursed. Other than the past half-hour, you haven't been able to remember anything. You were nearly human for sixteen years. What time are you from?"
"It's 1118."
"You were trying to get pregnant."
"I'm not exactly sure what your mother has told you about this, but it takes more than me to-"
He interrupted her with a kiss.
"I know, you just have to tell me these things," not mentioning the fact that vampires could not become pregnant.
"I heard there were Carolynas from different time periods, I suppose this is all the proof that I need," Katerina said as she found the two. "The current Caroline would never," saying the name with a hint of disgust, but it was Katerina so there was no hint.
"Is that true?" the current Caroline asked before going unconscious.
"Katerina, so nice to see you again," Nik bit out before Caroline woke again.
"It's always nice to see me, I look incredible. You, on the other hand, look like a dog."
"What are you doing here?" Caroline said scathingly to Katerina.
"Oh, she hates me!" Katerina celebrated excitedly.
"I fail to see why you are glad about this," Elijah questioned.
"Now she only looks at me blankly with a bit of terror."
"Why would I be scared of you? I'm upset that you are taking up all of the time of my husband. Honestly, it's always Katerina this and oh I'm going to have to seduce Katerina. I left Spain to spend a decade with him and it starts out with two years chasing some other girl."
Elijah lifted his eyebrow at Nik, who shrugged as though the idea didn't surprise him.
"Then why did you save Nadia?" Katerina asked genuinely.
"I found you before Nik did. I saw what your father was going to do, and couldn't let that happen. How did you find out about that?"
"You introduced us about a year after I became a vampire."
"We become friends?" she asked happily.
"We do," Katerina answered almost as happily.
"I'm glad."
"She likes you, how could I not. It will take a bit for her to love you, but longer than that to admit it to herself. Just be honest, like you were the first time I said yes. Now, you need to give me some of your blood because I can't keep doing this for much longer."
"I've kept you too long," he said looking slightly abashed, as much as he could anyway.
She kissed him before biting his neck.
"I love you," she collapsed for a final time.
"I love you, too," he whispered before picking her up to bring her to her house.
"Klaus?" Caroline asked groggily.
"Get some rest, sweetheart."
