Team BURN

The small group began walking through the woods back to the cliff side. Blaze gripped his bleeding arm and leaned heavily against the trees whenever he could. His body still ached with pain as his head span. The feeling and pain didn't last too long; by the time it faded a large ruin was coming into view. Wow Blaze thought staring up at it this place is wrecked.

"Blaze!" a voice excitedly shouted. Blaze looked over in surprise to Ruby, Yang, Blake, Jaune, Weiss, and others he didn't know. They looked as if they were discussing something.

"Hey!" he said, waving happily. He ran over and the trio began talking about the various challenges they had overcome.

"You guys fought a Nevermore!" Blaze shouted in surprise.

"Yeah!" Yang said, smirking, "It was awesome!"

"Sooo uh," Ruby said, "who's your partner?"

"Oh," Blaze said, rubbing the back of his head. "Actually it's that lizard Faunus from yesterday, you know the one with Blake. He's a bit intense...But, what about you guys" Ruby was visibly deflated.

"My partner is Weiss," she muttered sadly.

"O…Oh…Well uh, that's…" unfortunate Blaze thought.

"I got Blake," Yang said cheerfully. "She's actually pretty cool."

The group of 13 began heading back to the cliff side where the professors stood waiting. As they walked Blaze overheard a conversation from the white haired boy and Weiss.

"I thought we agreed you wouldn't participate in the entrance exam," Weiss said, sounding annoyed.

"We did," the boy said in a monotone voice. "I made a mistake and was fired into the woods."

"How you could you accidently get launched into the exam!"

"By standing on a launch-pad as it shot you."

Weiss sighed, "Well, you're here now," she said, "so just stay with everyone else; we can explain the mistake to Professor Ozpin." Then the heiress walked past Blaze, her head held high as always. Blaze slowed his pace until he stood beside the white haired boy.

"Hey!" he said smiling, "my name's Blaze. We didn't really get a chance to talk earlier, because you walked away…You fought with a whip right? What's your name?" The boy looked at him with a slight look of surprise, as if surprised someone was talking to him, the expression was gone in an instant.

"Cyro," he said simply.

"Cyro hu? Well thanks for your help earlier with the Ursa."

"My actions had nothing to do with helping you. I had been chasing the Grimm and killed it when it reached the clearing. Nothing more."

"Oh…" Blaze said, his smile fading, "well, thanks anyway." He then sped up and began talking with Ruby again.

Cryo watched him go, he's obviously far too trusting. Reaching into his pocket the boy felt an object he had grabbed of the forest floor; the glint of the sun had caught his eye. A silver pawn. The relic had clearly been an extra seeing as each pair of students held a relic of differentiating chess pieces. But Cryo had every intention to bring the extra relic back to its owner, Ozpin.

Hours later the students once again stood in the crowded auditorium, listening anxiously as Ozpin created the teams, and proclaimed the leader.

"Russel Thrush, Cardin Winchester, Dove Bronzewing and Sky Lark." Ozpin said, "The four of you retrieved the black bishop pieces. From this day forward you will work together as team CRDL (Cardinal). Led by, Cardin Winchester."

Blaze swallowed nervously, looking around at the potential members of his team.

"Ga! I'm so nervous," Ruby said, covering her face with her hands.

"Relax," Yang said. "You'll be fine."

"Yeah! But what if I'm on a team with I people I don't like? What if they don't like me? What if I'm the leader."

"Yeah, and what if you're on a team with me and Blaze? Calm down, there's no point of stressing over this, just let it happen."

"From this day forward," Ozpin continued, having moved on to the next team, which involved Jaune, two girls with red hair and a boy with long black hair "you will be known, as team JNPR (Juniper). Led by, Jaune Arc."

"Wow," Blaze said smiling, "good for Jaune." Jaune, who was on the stage, proceeded to fall over.

"Blake Belladonna, Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee and Yang Xiao Long." Ozpin said, ignoring Jaune. Ruby and Yang walked passed Blaze, who couldn't help but feel a little left out.

"The four of you retrieved the white knight pieces. From this day forward you shall work together as, team RWBY (Ruby). Led by Ruby Rose.

Blaze's head shot up. "Ruby!" he said in surprise. Yang tackled her sister in a hug.

"And finally, Umbra Belladonna, Rigel Arc, Blaze Xiao Long, and Nina Polendina."

Blaze swallowed nervously and walked on stage. Beside him stood the people he had fought with during the Grimm swarm.

"You four collected the silver pawn pieces and will work together as Team BURN."

Team BURN Blaze though with a smirk, folding his arms over his chest, I like it.

"Led," Ozpin continued, "By Blaze Xiao Long."

"Wait what!" Blaze shouted. "Me?"

"A strong choice," the girl with who had used the golden sickle, apparently Nina commented. Blaze glanced over to her in shock.

"'Looks like things are shaping up to be a…an interesting year." Ozpin said. "The leaders of your teams have been messaged the dorm rooms your team will be staying in. Please collect your luggage and bring it to your rooms."

Blaze's scroll buzzed in his pocket with the room for his team. Glancing at his team, Blaze shrugged.

"I guess we should head over," he said.

A short time later the newly formed team BURN was gathering their luggage, "I can't believe I'm the team leader," Blaze said, looping his backpack over one shoulder. "I don't know how to lead!"

"Actually, I'm not surprised," Nina said, picking up her luggage. "A leader needs to have certain characteristics, like quick thinking, action, observation and planning. You showed you possessed all the needed skills when we were fighting the Grimm." Blaze blinked in surprise, Nina did make a good point.

"Yeah…" he said, "I guess you're right, we should head up to our dorm. It's a long walk."

"Wait!" Rigel said, running over to Blaze and touching his suitcase. Instantly a light pink bubble formed around the luggage. It floated gently in the air at about knee height.

"Hey, it can do that?" Blaze said. "Your semblance is so helpful!"

Rigel smiled and shrugged. "It's not the best in battle… but it does have its perks."

"Can you do mine?" Nina asked excitedly.

Rigel smiled, "yeah sure!" she said happily.

"Really? Then heck, I'm not lugging this junk around! It's heavy!" Rigel laughed and used her semblance to create a large pink bubble around Nina's luggage.

A few minutes later Team BURN's luggage was floating beside them as they walked to their dorm, gaining a few envious looks from students carrying their own heavy suitcases and backpacks. As they walked Blaze looked at his new team more closely. Rigel had long, thick pink hair with a white steak pulled back in a braid on the left side of her head. A collection of hair pins of different sizes and colors held most of the extra hair out of her face. She had light blue eyes and was wearing a white shirt with a thick hot pink V neck collar, the left side trailing down in robe like fashion, the back of her shirt held a pattern which Blaze assumed was her symbol. She had a light pink skirt with a dark pink slit held up by a light blue band. On her legs she had dark blue legging and hot pink shoes. A light blue belt was slung across her chest, holding her weapon on back. On her wrists she wore thick silver bracelets.

Nina had dark orange hair shaved on the right side, the left growing down to her chin, partly covering her eyes, which were hazel. She wore a neon green, tightfitting, long-sleeved shirt covered in twirling thorn-like patterns. Her right shoulder had a gold symbol that looked like sharp gears. On her chest she wore a black corset, which was tight on her hips, this drew attention to her large breasts. She wore a light and dark green belt, the lighter holding her weapon. Her short skirt started as gold, but faded to a dark green. On her feet she had thigh high, dark green, heeled, boots with the same black thorn pattern as her shirt. Blaze wondered how she could walk in the heels, let alone fight with them.

After a short walk, the four stood in front of the door to their dorm. Umbra reached for the doorknob, but before he could grab it, Nina interrupted.

"Shouldn't Blaze go first? He is our leader, it seems only right."

Blaze awkwardly rubbed the back of his head. "No, no it's ok. I don't really care." But Umbra turned to look at him, then shrugged and stepped aside without a word. Blaze smiled awkwardly and stepped forward, clasping the cold doorknob. The newly made leader gently turned the knob and the pushed the door open.

Inside was classic Beacon dorm room. Four beds were lined up on the left side, with a wooden nightstand between them. A desk with a chair was set up next to the door and shelves were placed on the walls. There was a door on the right wall, which Blaze assumed led to a bathroom. On the far wall was a window with a large sill and red drapes.

"Hey," Blaze said, standing in the doorway, "this is pretty nice!" Umbra brushed passed and tossed his luggage on the bed nearest the window.

"I call dibs on the next one!" Rigel called happily.

"I'll get the one after that." Nina said.

"Soo…" Blaze said, pointing to the bed nearest him. "I guess this one's mine. That was easy." At that point it was about ten at night and the moon shone through the window. After each of the members took turns going in the bathroom to put on pajamas the four went to bed.

As Blaze lay down, his gaze lingered on his bandaged wrists. Tomorrow he thought, I'll take them off tomorrow.
