"Do you really think that I'd fuck her over?"
Santana paused and turned to look at Sebastian, she had half expected Charlie to simply pop in, she hadn't truly expected to see Sebastian, carrying a stack of folders. "I do. Where is she anyway? It's nearly noon and I know she gets hungry then."
"Nike, has her doing some commercial. They managed to sway her with glow-in-the-dark laces and shoes. They had the best design, but the shoes do look nice and they're paying her a fortune plus giving her free shoes for life." Sebastian explained with a wave of his hand. "It was a last-minute thing. Personally, I told her to go with Adidas, or Under Armour but Charlie liked the glow-in-the-dark shoes. She thought they were very cool. Both offered her more money by the way, so before you think I'm the one that's pulling the strings. I'm not. Charlie makes her own decisions."
Santana raised a brow, Charlie hadn't mentioned a commercial or a shoe deal. "Of course, she chose the glow-in-the-dark shoes," Santana rolled her eyes. "But you make most of Charlie's financial decisions? Charlie has no idea how much money she has, she still doesn't quite understand how much things cost and this new deal that she signed with Titan—you work for Titan Sebastian. It is in your best interest to make sure Charlie stays, and I doubt Charlie knows enough to know to make sure she has certain rights."
"Titan is taking care of her, and more importantly they're giving her freedom. She didn't even ask for more money, I insisted that we pay her more after the Tsunami incident, that was all me. See for yourself. Blaine got Charlie a lawyer and everything, she has representation, I care about her and not just because she's the goose that lays the golden eggs. The shit that they put her through Santana, all of Titan cares. She's kind and friendly to everyone, everyone likes her. You are not Charlie's only advocate." Sebastian snaps back.
Santana scowled, she didn't doubt that Sebastian was trying to protect his investment. But still there was still so much that Charlie was ignorant about, that she would always be ignorant about. "She needs to shoulder more responsibility, she isn't stupid and if you tell her to do something and explain why she needs to do it, she'll do it. You paying her bills is keeping her dependent on you, she's not in control of her finances."
"Which is in her best interest—"
"It isn't, she was already ready to start paying rent and for food when she lived with me, now she doesn't know how much she earns, she doesn't know how much she's supposed to be getting paid every cycle, she doesn't see the money. She probably doesn't really understand how banking works. Let alone taxes—"
Sebastian rolled his eyes and dumped the folders onto the table, "These are all her contracts like you requested, she said to open the books for you. Most of this shit is way above you, Santana and you need to leave it to the professionals."
Santana glanced at the paperwork, he was probably right and most of this would go over her head, but her mother was a lawyer and she probably would be able to make heads or tails of it. Of course, it would mean calling her mother and asking for help something she didn't really want to do. "How much is Charlie making?"
"After the Tsunami incident? 2.5 million dollars a year, that's how much Titan is paying her." Sebastian said with a frown, she'd been making six figures, already. With several other companies trying to poach her he had forced Titan to match her offer, and offer her some perks. It was nothing but a drop in the bucket, Titan's stock had ballooned, and Charlie was now the highest paid magic-touched individual in that division. "Santana, I swear to you I am looking out for her."
Santana placed her hand on the folders, she'd take a look at them later and if she couldn't make heads or tails of it, then she'd send it off to her mother. "I know you've done things for her that I couldn't. There is no way I could afford to get her the—help she needed."
Sebastian made a face it was a lot for Santana to admit that to him, and he sighs. "Personally, I'm glad that you two are talking again. She seems happier, and she now has something outside of work. I was going to you know, find her a boyfriend, or girlfriend but I was afraid they'd end up in the river—again."
Santana raised a brow, but Sebastian probably wasn't making the connection she was making. She blamed Brittany for even putting that in her head, "Good luck with that," she said with a shake of her head. The thought of Charlie in a relationship with someone bothered her, though it was probably due to the fact that she wasn't sure that Charlie could handle it. "I still think you need to trust Charlie to handle things on her own."
"This coming from the person who didn't want her to sign with me to begin with," Sebastian scoffed.
Santana rolled her eyes, and was about to snap back when she feels familiar magic popping up in the kitchen, and immediately turns to head into the kitchen before Charlie made herself 'comfortable' in her kitchen. "Charlie, we've talked about this—" Santana paused and looked at Charlie who was currently decked out in Nike gear that from the looks of it glowed in the dark. "I—what are you wearing?"
Charlie looked down at herself, "It glows in the dark Santana. Isn't it really cool?"
Santana blinked, and turned to look back at Sebastian who shrugged his shoulders. "Sure, let's go with cool. Sebastian's here."
Charlie made a face at that, causing Santana to snort. "Why?"
"I can hear you!" Sebastian called out.
"He brought over most of your contracts, and I said I'd take a look at your finances, and expenses just to make sure you're budgeting properly and no one is taking advantage of you. We talked about this remember?" Charlie nods and Santana studies her for a moment, the bright green on her shirt and pants and the laces on her shoes was to much and she averts her gaze after a moment. "You're probably going to need to invest in a stylist as well. Someone who can pick out outfits for you."
"What's wrong with what I'm wearing? You said it was cool." Charlie insists looking down at herself.
"It looks like some mutant unicorn vomited all over you," Sebastian said as he stood beside Santana, "You're right about a stylist, but she's mostly been in uniform clearly she can't be trusted to dress herself. You can't wear that to the get together with the executives. You need to wear something presentable for the photo-op. Speaking of which, have you given any thought to who you might bring? I have some names of some celebrities who have been asking to meet you. They seem nice enough."
"Why do I have to bring anyone?"
"Because people care about this and a celebrity will raise your profile. Which is what you want," Sebastian sighed as if this was obvious. "Unless you've started dating someone without my knowledge?"
"I was under the opinion that everything you do is for Charlie's best interests, if she shows up with some celebrity then people will think she's dating that celebrity. It's a photo-op, with the bosses. I get it you want to project normal, but if Charlie is single then she's single. The last thing you need is to inadvertently link her up with crazy. And most people are crazy."
Sebastian glanced at Santana and raised a brow, before turning to Charlie who had seemingly lost interest in this conversation and was turning on the grill. "My position in the company is tied to how well Charlie is doing, and she needs someone she trusts, and someone that she can come home to."
"Charlie, stop playing with the grill. If you ask, I'll make you something," Santana said moving to swat Charlie's hands away.
Charlie backs away and puffs out her cheeks before turning to Sebastian, "I have Santana," she informs him as if it were obvious.
Sebastian's eyes widen and he looks at Santana who doesn't meet his gaze, and instead busies herself making some food for Charlie. He glances between them for a moment, "Well then she can come. But we've talked about this Charlie."
Charlie makes a face and tries to remember before brightening up considerably, "Do you want to come with me to the meet and greet—"
"No," Santana interrupts.
"Oh," Charlie looks away for a moment. "Do you have a boy—" Sebastian clears his throat and Charlie looks at him before remembering her manners. "Lover?"
Santana stopped what she was doing and looked at Charlie and then back at Sebastian who looked pleased with himself, "Do I have a lover?" She repeats the question slowly.
"Yes, it's rude to make assumptions about people's sexual orientation," Charlie informs her.
Santana narrows her eyes at Sebastian, she didn't know whether to be offended or laugh, but Charlie would simply get confused, "Then ask if they have a significant other."
"Oh." Charlie nods. "Do you?"
Santana narrows her eyes for a second before sighing. "I do not. I still don't want to go with you, unless this on a Tuesday, you know I have to work at the bar."
Charlie seems to accept that answer for a moment before tilting her head, "Do you want a lover—significant other?"
Santana stared at Charlie, "Since when do you care about my love life?"
"Sebastian says it's healthy to get laid every now and again—and that my presence stops that from happening with Blaine. And I lived with you for a year and—" Charlie trails off and looks at Santana earnestly.
"Really?" Santana said turning to Sebastian who cleared his throat.
"She doesn't knock. She just shows up, I had to teach her about boundaries Santana," Sebastian said. As far as he was concerned, Charlie was the reason he had managed to convince Blaine to put off having snotty little children.
"Sebastian gives shitty advice, and I don't know what he told you about me."
"That you two used to have sex like all the time before he met Blaine."
"Really Sebastian?" Santana turned on him. What the fuck had he been filling Charlie's head with?
"What? I was giving her a lesson on sexual orientation, and she was confused so I used you as an example."
"Me? What about you."
"She pays attention when it's about you." Sebastian rolled his eyes.
Charlie looked between them for a minute before once again losing interest in the flow of the conversation, "So do you want a significant other?" Charlie interrupts.
Santana turned to look at Charlie, "If I wanted to have sex and have my life filled with drama I'd date someone, but I don't get out as much as I want to, and I don't date anyone from the bar, because that's terrible, so no. I am not having sex, that doesn't mean that you shouldn't knock. Also, I don't know what he told you but I am not some—sex-crazed maniac like he is."
"Bullshit. How many times did you use me for my body?"
"What body?"
"Fine, my dick."
Santana turned to look at Charlie who was staring at her, and she's about to say something in her defense when Charlie's phone goes off.
Charlie absentmindedly pulls it from her pocket and looks at the name on it before choosing to answer. "I just saw you a couple of weeks ago Quinn, is this an emergency?"
Santana paused, "Quinn?"
"She's talking to her sister now, they go for lunch when they're in the same continent," Sebastian offers.
"You let that happen?" Santana hisses.
"Charlie asked for it, it's part of her therapy Santana. What was I supposed to do?" Sebastian threw up his hands. He had no idea why Santana was basically riding his ass over every little thing when it came to Charlie.
"I don't want to go to Louisiana." Charlie said after a moment.
"Put it on speaker," Sebastian said crossing his arms over his chest. He should have known that allowing this relationship was a terrible idea and Santana was probably right, Charlie didn't know most of what was in her contract.
Charlie looks at him for a moment before shrugging her shoulders and doing just that.
'—Look Charlie, I get it. You don't want to help the Templars but one of my guys lost a limb and I've never seen anything like it. If I send you some video can you watch it and get back to me, especially if you have any idea on how to take it out? Maybe if you can take care of it—'
"Absolutely not. She works for Titan, and if the Templars wish for Titan's help then we'll think about sending someone, but Charlie doesn't have permission to do whatever it is you want her to do. And do you really expect her to work without compensation?"
There's a momentary pause, 'You got your agent?'
"No, Sebastian is here arguing with Santana about her sex life," Charlie answers. "But I'm not allowed to help you Quinn, but you can send me the videos and I'll look to see if I can give you some advice."
"With the appropriate compensation!" Sebastian insisted immediately.
'I'll pay for dinner the next time—'
"All the time," Charlie interrupted.
'Are you seriously that—fine look I've sent the video just let me know what you think?'
"Fine, I'll look at it and call you back." Charlie's phone buzzes in her hand as the text comes in, she hums for a moment and ends the call so she can look at it.
Santana turned to look at Charlie, "You're helping Templars now?"
"I'm helping Quinn, I think I like her, even if she's not really good with managing her love life. I had to give her advice."
Santana snorted at the idea that Charlie was giving Quinn advice. "Be careful, I know she's family but she's a Templar."
Charlie studies Santana before playing the video Quinn had sent her. 'Colles conflatur sicut cera a facie Domini, a facie Domini omnis terra!' The footage is grainy but she can hear Quinn, and shouting in the background, before the camera turns and she spots Quinn in a white uniform with a thick white leather jacket with various Templar symbols on it and Charlie's eyes widen. "She has a sword and she looks really cool."
"Charlie, Templar. Templar's are bad," Santana barks at her.
"I know but I think she looks cool." Charlie says forwarding the video, she feels Santana move to look over her shoulder and lets her take a look.
"I don't think your sister wanted your fashion advice," Santana begins only to freeze. "What the fuck is that?" She asks pointing to the dark matter that seems to be pouring out of a church.
"That's a shadow," Charlie said absentmindedly completely unimpressed. Quinn had insisted that it was an emergency. She plays the next video and she stops when she spots Quinn attempting to grab her sword, and tries to zoom in to the foot that's been stripped clean of flesh and clothing. "Oh."
"Oh. Look, I'm not into all the things of the night that go bump but that doesn't look like a shadow," Santana insisted.
Sebastian moved to take a look himself, "If it's dangerous Titan—"
Charlie moved away from Sebastian's lecture a frown on her face, she waits for a moment. "That's not a Shadow. It's too big, and it eats people. Shadow's don't do that. Shadow's aren't an emergency, that thing is."
'You know what it is?'
"I don't know what it's called, and I've never fought anything that big before." Charlie admits with a shrug of her shoulders.
'Fine how did you kill it?'
"Magic." Charlie answered as if it were obvious.
'I'm a Templar. We don't do magic.'
"I told you how I beat it, I used magic. If you want to know how I'd beat that thing now, I'd break it into pieces, and then destroy the smaller ones. So that's what you should do."
There's a long pause for a moment as it suddenly dawns on Quinn that Charlie was admitting to seeing whatever this was before which meant there was probably video of it somewhere, 'Wait, you've faced something like this before?'
Charlie ignored the question, "I'll pick the restaurant," she informs her twin before hanging up and looking at Santana who was staring at her. "What's a good expensive restaurant, it's okay Quinn's paying."
Santana blinked wondering how Charlie could be so calm about what she saw and looked over at Sebastian, "Is that what she normally deals with?"
"In Titan? God no, we protect our assets and if the Templars want to throw their lives away instead of doing what I would do which is burn that shit to the ground that's on them." Sebastian shuddered.
Santana turned to look at Charlie who was still waiting expectantly for the information she was looking for, "We'll find the right restaurant to drain Quinn's pockets. But first, what was that?"
Charlie sighed, "It was a shadow, but it also wasn't a shadow. It's not like they told me what I was facing, I was made to watch and then react. So, I did. That's not a regular shadow, it's like a piranha, it'll strip the flesh of a human in seconds if it gets into your shadow, or it touches you. He's lucky he just lost a foot."
"Could you beat it?" Sebastian asked. "That thing."
This time Charlie paused and looked at Sebastian. "Yes. But if Titan tries to make me fight it, I'll quit."
Santana lets out a breath that she didn't know that she'd been holding, the thought of Charlie facing something like that was terrifying, and she was glad that Charlie didn't want anything to do with it. But it made her think of how terrifying Charlie's childhood must have been like if she seemed calm with watching a man getting his foot chopped off and watching a monster practically eat that foot. "Charlie?"
"Yeah?"
"Just—be careful."
"I will, next time I'll make Quinn give me her sword," Charlie mused mostly to herself before looking at the oven and moving to start making something to eat only for Santana to swat her away.
