Chapter 26
After breakfast, Fuyumi dragged them all to the living room and splayed the clothes over the couch. "Touya, look at all the clothes we got you. These ones over here are my pick, while those are Natsuo's. Which ones do you like better?" Fuyumi pointed back and forth.
"I'll wear them regardless. When was the last time I got free clothes? And from my loving siblings no less?" Dabi snorted as he sat on a sofa that wasn't caked in clothes. Shoto sat beside him, watching his siblings interact.
"Okay, we'll take all of these to your room then." Their sister collected the heaps of clothing and turned towards the rooms. "After that I got a bit of work to get done, so I'll see you guys later."
"And I got an assignment. I'll be in my room too. You two have fun~ and don't fight." Natsu pointed at the pair on the couch. Dabi gave him an unimpressed look and waved a nonchalant hand while Shoto only stared in acknowledgement.
A moment of silence passed between them.
"So?" Touya said first, leaning his head against his knuckles as he glanced at Shoto. "Remind me again, how did we get here?"
"What do you mean?" Shoto asked.
"How did Endeavor find out again?"
"I didn't tell him, I already told you that…"
"So, he just figured it out magically, after all these years?" Shoto thought long and hard. "What?" Dabi picked up on his change in attitude.
"Uh… well I had a photo of you and Natsu, that I scribbled over with Dabi's hair and burns. That's how I found out about your identity. But it's been missing for a while now. I kept it safe in my room as a secret and father's never in my room…but maybe my behavior made him snoop around?"
"Of course. Ridiculous." Dabi shook his head.
"I'm sorry, I should've been more careful."
"Well, whatever, can't reverse time, can we? But I won't be so forgiving next time."
"Endeavor! Endeavor! What do you have to say about the allegations made from the villain, Dabi?" One of the reporters posed with a mic. Reporters swarmed Endeavor as he walked out of the agency that evening.
"Is it true? The public wants to know if Dabi is your biological son? Do you refute or approve the claim?" Another exclaimed.
"What is your opinion on the deferral of your hero position?" A third asked and Endeavor finally took the mic and spoke into it once and for all.
"I'm willing to cooperate with the justice system. After the investigation, if they decide to adjourn my title as number one hero, then I'll gladly accept the verdict." Enji declared and dropped the mic, marching over to the hero police car. After the accusations Dabi made, the hero board members began to question his ability and credentials of continuing as the No. 1 hero. His previous actions would make all of their reputation look bad. However, Endeavor was slowly getting over his obsession of being the No. 1 here. Furthermore, at this point he just wanted to prove to his family that he was changing. And he knew his family would be watching this.
"What are you guys watchin'?" Natsuo came downstairs.
"Meh, just some interesting news." Dani sneered, feeling slightly satisfied as he turned the live stream of Endeavor off.
"How's that interesting?" The silverette's face cringed as he walked over and sat on the loveseat across from them.
"…It's father. He's under investigation for the video that was broadcasted. He might be suspended from his hero position for the time being." Shoto elaborated.
"About time." The silverette rolled his eyes.
"Well, he's been trying." Shoto commented.
That's when they heard the front door open and close. "Im back~" Fuyumi took off her shoes and skipped to the living room where the rest of the siblings were. "And guess what?!" She took out two CD's. "Movie night! I brought a few picks, what are you guys into?"
"Movie night? How old are we?" Natsu mocked.
"Oh come on, it's just another way of saying watching a movie together. It'll be fun and relaxing in a group." Fuyumi gave him a look. "So, what genre?"
"Action!" Natsu rooted.
"Horror." Dabi casually stated.
"Sci-fi?" Shoto added his input as well.
"Really you guys…"
"What were you thinking?" Natsuo reversed the query.
"I don't know, comedy or slice of life?" Their sister shrugged and earned a detached look from all three brothers. "Okay, fine. I also brought a thriller? Maybe that'll do?"
"Sounds like a keeper." Dabi concluded with a smirk.
"Okay!" Fuyumi inserted the CD inside the DVD player and went to the kitchen to scout some popcorn. Minutes later she walked out with two big bowls, one for herself and Natsu, and the other for Shoto and Touya.
11 PM.
Credits rolled on the TV screen in the dark living room. Natsu was asleep and comfortable on the couch by himself, while Fuyumi stood up from the single seat sofa.
"I'm going to sleep," Fuyumi declared with a yawn. "You two should get up too."
Shoto nodded and stood up from next to Dabi, his elder brother soon following suite, walking right behind him. Touya's room came first down the hall so he opened his door and eyed his younger brother, who passed him lazily. However, he didn't make it far until a burnt hand grabbed his wrist and yanked him backwards right into his room, shutting the door behind them. Fuyumi was already half-way up the stairs and could care less of what was going on downstairs.
That woke Shoto up a bit as he stood shocked with his back planted against the door and sandwiched between the door and Dabi in the dark room.
"W- what…?" The dual haired stared up to him but couldn't read his expression much in the dim lighting. He could only judge the other's feelings from the grip on his arms. The younger's breath hitched when he felt Dabi's face on his, breath hitting his cheeks and lips pressing on his surprised ones. Shoto's face flushed as he allowed those thin lips to kiss and suck on his, before the elder's tongue slipped into his mouth hungrily.
The younger could taste the buttery popcorn between them. Shoto threw his head back slightly from the force as he tried to follow the tongue movements before he gave up on the other. "W-wait—what are you—" He faced away momentarily needing to clear his head. "What are you doing?" He suddenly felt like they were committing something akin to a sin.
However, all Dabi could usher was "Sleep here tonight."
"Huh?"
"Just sleep here, it doesn't matter." The elder led them to the bed.
"No—wait—"
"What? What are you afraid of little Shoto?"
"I'm not...But." The younger wanted to resist but at the same time, every sense in his body was telling him to go along. He craved to be with Dabi, and he didn't know when he would get that chance again—forgetting that they even lived together now. The dual haired tucked his chin and allowed the villain to hold his hand and guide him to the bed. Dabi sat on the edge of the bed, pulling him onto his lap facing him.
Shoto wasn't aware where and how far things were going to go. He merely went with the flow. The teen also didn't want to question the other and ruin the unspoken atmosphere they created with racing hearts, temperatures rising and butterflies in his stomach. His palms felt sweaty as he climbed on top and held the other's shoulders. Dabi looked content and completely fixated on him though, leaning up to kiss him again then peck his neck causing him to squirm which he found immensely cute.
"Touya-nii…" The younger moaned. Albeit he was acting more like Dabi right now. "Do you…realize what you're doing…?" Shoto finally questioned this.
"Heh, do you?" Dabi was semi-pleased his younger brother asked, because he didn't need a repeat of their last kiss. He wanted to make sure Shoto knew what they were doing and what this meant.
"N-no…I'm serious…"
Dabi inched away to look him in the eyes, the younger's lighter eye glowing more in the moonlight. "I'm done holding back. You better figure this out fast." With that he began biting his neck again.
"I don't get it…" Shoto mouthed unfiltered. 'What was Dabi trying to say? There's no way he would feel the same way towards him—they were brothers…' "This isn't right…" The last thing he wanted was mixed signals or to start having false hope—or even get used to this and become vulnerable when this meant nothing.
The villain clicked his tongue and backed away again, body tense and unapproving. "Shoto." Shoto flinched at the stern tone. "I don't care. I'm done with all this shit. Waiting gets nowhere, I've come to learn that. I can't hold back any longer—especially now that we're living together. You've been tempting me all day. I think by now you know exactly what I'm talking about."
The dual haired swallowed hard.
"I want you." The elder laid it out for him.
"Mh…" Shoto's mind was still glazed over from all the intimacy, but he still couldn't fathom this was actually happening. Did his brother just confess to him? He had so many questions. When did it start? Why? How? But his face was stone cold expressionless and lost—and a blushing mess. However, It was so tempting for him; to just confess right here and now too.
"Whatever. You just spoiled the mood." Dabi swung him to the side, landing him on the bed like he was a doll.
"S-sorry…" Shoto wiped his jaw with the back of his hand.
"But now you know." The ravenette kicked off his slippers and climbed on top as well, laying sideways, locking turquoise eyes with his heterochromic ones. "So, you don't have any excuses to feign ignorance, honor student. Today's your only break." Dabi hinted that he wasn't going to hold back from now own, especially now that everything was out in the open. This would also give Shoto time to figure out his feelings—which Dabi knew were lingering somewhere in him, from the sheer desire in his eyes. He was simply forcing them out now.
"Okay…" Shoto turned to his side as well, a hand under his head as he looked back and forth between Touya's eyes. Again, there was much he wanted to say but at the same time there was this mutual acceptance, where he didn't need to say anything and knew Dabi was aware of his feelings.
They ended up just falling asleep that night, arm in arm. Silently. Soundly. Most peacefully.
"You seem to be in a good mood." Deku and Shoto met up outside one day. Summer break would be ending in less than a week. Hence they wanted to hang out a bit, just the two of them without Bakugo breathing down their necks.
"Hn? Am I?" Shoto averted his eyes, pretending to be indifferent.
"Yeah! Even though your expression hasn't changed but you seem different, kinda upbeat and relaxed." Deku smiled.
"Really? I guess? Ever since Da—Touya-nii moved with us, it's been…nice. Really nice with all of us, we've been spending more time together and just doing normal things. Without the pressures of the past or our parents, and stuff."
Deku laughed. "You're the only one that'd feel so at peace with a villain at home haha."
"That villain is also my brother." Shoto deadpanned. "Anyways, I've been meaning to ask. What happened between you two that time?"
"Who?"
"You and Bakugo, of course."
"Ah, that. Um," The green haired scratched his hair speechlessly. "Well, it's complicated. Things are a little tense or…awkward? Between us. The thing is… I may have confessed to him…"
Shoto immediately swung his head towards him. "Pardon?"
"I've known him since he was a kid. He never cares about anyone, but…he's been very observant towards you –which don't get me wrong, is not a bad thing—we're all friends but…anyways I ended up confronting him about it…"
"You confessed?" The dual haired repeated.
"Okay, yes, I did—like in a way. I forgot exactly how I worded it cause I kinda just blurted it out, but I basically did."
Shoto suddenly made a disgusted face. "Midoriya. I'm concerned for your type."
"That's not my type!" Deku fretted. "Only because its Kacchan—I swear!"
"That's even worse…" Todoroki murmured.
"Ugh…" The green haired teen was at a loss for words on how to explain himself.
"And Bakugo trampled on you."
"What? How did you know—I mean, he didn't exactly trample on me…"
"I presumed." Shoto calmly and confidently answered.
"He said, if I could come anywhere near your level or not be a 'wimp' then he might consider it."
The dual haired teen stared at him with slightly wide eyes. "Wow, he said that? I'm impressed that he even entertained the idea at all."
"…You're not making me feel any better Todoroki-kun. Not all of us look and have skills like you." Deku told dejected.
"It's nothing against you at all, but you know Bakugo. He's all or nothing sometimes, so I just wasn't expecting him to say that… Then you should work hard, maybe you have a chance after all." Shoto gave him a thumbs up. "Though…as your friend, I really think you should reconsider."
Deku laughed at the implication. "I know what you're thinking, but I don't think I know anyone better than I know Kacchan. I'm sure one day I can help him see my perspective as well. And while he'll never admit it, I know he looks out for all of us and will be there when I need him. So, I know he's a warmer person at heart." Deku smiled, memories playing in his head, new and old.
"Are we still talking about the same person?" Shoto flatly inquired.
"Wow Todoroki-kun, you have a sense of humor too."
"Need help with that?" Touya's voice interrupted Fuyumi's hum while she was washing the dishes in their new kitchen.
"Oh? Um sure, if you want." The girl pulled out an earphone and wrapped it around her neck. "You can just dry the ones I pass you and return them to the stand." She instructed. The elder nodded and stood parallel to her, wearing his new dark purple half-sleeved T-shirt that Natsuo bought him.
"So...um don't mind me asking but, will that skin ever heal?" Fuyumi asked a long while later, eyeing his burnt yet muscular arms.
Dabi looked down at his burns as well, briefly pausing his handiwork. He ultimately shrugged. "Who knows."
"How long have they been like that?"
"Pretty long now. Part of the reason they're not healing is 'cause I keep using my flames. I've been going at it non-stop trying to master my flames and temperature without really giving them a chance to heal. The damage might be more permanent now because of that but who knows, maybe if I wait long enough without exerting any quirk, the skin might regenerate slowly?"
"Then while you're at home, why not give it a rest? I can help you rub something on it if you want."
Dabi chuckled at the idea.
Shoto dressed into his U.A. uniform and surveyed himself in the mirror once before grabbing his bag and exiting his room. He looked sharp, as usual, and as he should. It was the start of his second year at U.A. and he was now a second-year student—he felt more experienced already.
He walked past the kitchen door frame and saw Touya and Fuyumi at the sink, joking with each other. 'They're getting along.' He internally smiled as he made his way to the living room and placed his bag on of the single couch. Natsuo was already on the sofa pulling on his socks.
"Yo little bro~ Ready for another year?" The silverette acknowledged his presence. Shoto solemnly nodded in response. "Anyways, you done? Let's go, I think the car is waiting outside." The elder stood up, patted down his hoodie and scooped up his own bag, throwing it over one shoulder. Shoto followed him to the foyer and slipped on his shoes but was blocked by Natsu still standing in the doorway. The teen waited for him to continue walking but the other hardly moved.
"Wait a minute…" Natsuo walked past the puzzled teen towards the inside again. "Yo! Touya-nii! You'll still be around when we're back right?" He called out.
Dabi made his way to the living room as well, patting his hands dry. "Hmph." He scoffed. "Don't worry you can't get rid of me now. I have no choice but to stay under house arrest."
Natsu smirked satisfied, casually extending his fist and fist bumping the elder. "Bet."
"Later." The ravenette nodded his eyebrows once, but it seemed like his gaze was directed at Shoto. Shoto saw that and nodded timidly before exiting the house with Natsu.
Natsuo and Shoto sat in the back seat of their car while the driver drove them away from their manor towards the city. "…Do you find it weird that he looks different?" Shoto mouthed after a while.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean does it change the way you feel about him knowing he looks nothing like you remember him?" The teen rephrased.
Natsuo was quiet for a second. "Does it bother you?"
"No—not at all. I was just curious."
"Well...it's a little different indeed but then again everything is—our circumstances, dad, the house. I thought it would bug me, but honestly, just knowing that's Touya, I stopped caring. To me, it feels like he just automatically went back into place. The place as our older brother, the Touya we knew."
"Yeah you're right. I agree."
U.A. High was on the way first so the car stopped across the street from the gates and Shoto stepped out first. "Thanks for the ride."
"Sure thing! Have fun~" Natsuo waved as they drove off. Shoto watched the car diminish into the distance as he thought back to his question to the elder. 'I guess it's just a little awkward to me, because I knew him as Dabi first...Well, it doesn't matter. Natsu's right, he's still Touya.'
