I'm Hungry
Chapter 11: Hunger Satisfied
The coven resides in a location that looks like it came out of a B-movie horror flick. At least that's what Bela says as I and James lead the way. Fog curls around our ankles as we enter the long abandoned cemetery in a small sleepy town in Louisiana. The night is yet young, but we intend to be out of here long before daybreak.
"How many are there to take on," Bela asks and it's her newborn confidence that has her this eager to fight and take down enemies.
"I really don't want to fight them," James whines and I roll my eyes at him. He's going to have to fight sooner or later. I just don't have the heart to tell him.
"We're almost there. There's about five of them on the council. Everyone else is just a members. Usually members don't stick around. We spread out, and only return for important meetings. But these five live here," I explain.
I catch Bela flexing her muscles behind me. "I can take on two. Three even," she bragged. I did not want to put down her spirits so I did not say anything. Fighting vampires was not as easy as it had been with Demetri. I lead the way down to the crypt which is lit up by torches on the walls, the smell of petrich think in the air. It brings back so many memories, not all of them good. I try not to think about it.
I push open the heavy double doors at the end, entering a giant circular chamber. They're already there, sitting on their makeshift thrones of bones. Carlisle is at the front, observing me with his sharp eyes. In odd contrast he is wearing his doctor's coats from the morning, in which he pretends to be a human, working at a hospital.
Esme, his mate, sits to his left, caramel hair on one side. Edward, their golden child is sitting on the right. He is a mind reader who can no doubt read all of our minds. Which is why I didn't tell James anything of my plan. I only told Bela. With her shield powers, she can block Edward out.
As for me, well, I wasn't really trying to hide my intentions for being here.
Emmett, a big oaf of a vampire, and Jasper, a scar covered one, completed the coven. They all looked at us as we strode into the middle of the room. James' fear scent began to stink up the place. I really wished he could control himself better.
"I see," Edward drawled, the nudge of his mind reading mine. "You are here to defect."
"No, to quit. The coven failed to protect us from Demetri. I handled him. As such, the coven is useless to me. I want to leave." I held my back out proud as I said this, not wavering.
"And you think you can leave so easily?" Carlisle spoke. "You made a pact in blood."
"And so blood will undo it," I spat back, clawing my hands. Quickly I barked out orders. "Bela, you take on Jasper and Emmett. I'll get Esme and Carlise. James, you take Edward." Bela had her powers to use against the more physical ones, I had my speed against the coven leaders, and James thoughts would be such a jumbled mess from anxiety Edward would have a hard time getting a read.
"You really think the three of you are enough against us?" Carlisle scoffed, rising to his feet. "You are comprised of a half decent fighter, a newborn barely on her own two feet, and a joke of a vampire."
James growled at this.
"Either we are, or we aren't," I said and then all hell broke loose. They all raced at us, but Bela stood in front of me and let out a huge blast of power. All five of them went flying into their thrones, smashing them to bites and sending them crashing into the wall on the far side, hard enough for it to shatter. The whole place started to collapse down on us.
"I think I might have overdone it a bit," Bela said a touch sheepishly.
"Let's get out of here," James shouted out and he didn't have to tell us twice. We bolted out of the crypt as it collapsed behind us, right on top of the coven. We couldn't even hear their cries of pain over the shattering.
We got out and just in time, the ground collapsing where the crypt had been, into a gaping hole.
When the dust settled we looked down. Even if they weren't dead, they would be as we waited for them to crawl out of the hole. But the most important part was that Bela had defeated them in challenge and they had lost. Which meant we were technically free from the coven even if I didn't want to finish them off.
"Holy shit," James breathed out, looking at me with wide eyes. After so long, our shackles had finally fallen.
"What now?" Bela asked, spitting out blood. It seemed she had bit herself in effort to let out that blast of power.
"Now, you own the coven," I said, smiling at her. "We can do whatever the fuck we want."
Bela contemplated the meaning of all this. Her lips split into a wide grin.
"Cool."
A/N: Ending it here; not really feeling the series anymore. Don't want to drag it out. I hope it was enjoyable somewhat.
