In the beginning, there was the Force. A being beyond comprehension that helped guide all beings to peaceful resolutions, she worked this way for thousands of years and never truly noticed a small percentage of the beings she sought to help taking advantage of her and gleaning from her dark secrets that they used to begin conflicts anew. It wasn't until it was too late that she noticed and fell into despair, rendering the Galaxy unable to protect itself from the beings that called themselves Sith. The Force, desperate to fix the problem that she herself caused, split herself into three and gifted upon her firstborn child- for that is what she called him- the power of the light, of all the good inside her that she didn't want the darkness to touch. Her second-born, another son, was granted the power of Balance. A perfect mix of light and dark, unable to be tainted by either and the voice of reason between them. Her third child, a daughter, was bestowed the powers of pure Darkness and Evil. The girl was shunned by her creator and by her brother of Light, whom she looked up to reverently for guidance while doing her best to lead the ones in the darkness back to the light again. The Force- now weakened- melded with her children and granted them names. The eldest was named Harbin, a name full of strength and Light. Her middle child was name Merridan, a name of Balance and stability. Her daughter was named Nyx, a name meaning only Darkness. As her children grew, she paid special attention to Harbin and Merridan, lavishing them in knowledge and gifts. Her daughter was shunned and forgotten, suffering quietly so that her brothers could provide the Galaxy with their light and hope. But as we well know, being ignored in such a way can have serious negative problems on a child who does their best even at the sake of their own well-being.
Upon their coming of age, the Force granted her children one final gift. This gift would prove to be a grave error, as it would later create a great rift between her children that would never be repaired. The gift was simple, a sword of plasma that could cut through nearly anything and that lit the path ahead for them. Harbin gained a saber of blue, a colour soon associated with the up-and-coming Jedi Order and a staple of people with pure hearts free of darkness. Merridan was gifted two blades of silver, a colour soon associated with the Balanced Force and of Jedi who no longer wished to be a part of the Order. Nyx was given a blade of blood red, a sign of her mother's hatred of her very being. The red blade would soon become a staple of the Sith, the signature weapon of one who had turned to darkness. For many years, these weapons lay unused at their master's sides and were never drawn- a sign of peace? No, a sign of their lack of need for them. The chasm between the siblings grew larger with every passing day, with every cruel remark, with every fight and with every time Merridan took the side of Harbin. Not once did Nyx have anyone in her corner, not even when she had done no wrong and was being wrongfully accused of an act she did not or could not have done.
Many years of strain finally led to a fight, a fight that shook the foundations of the Jedi Temple on Ahch-To and led many to flee for their lives. The fight was not between a Jedi and a Sith, no, it was between siblings. Nyx and Harbin clashed in a lightsaber duel so overwhelming that not even Merridan could get close, shielding the Jedi from the war between Light and Dark. Red clashed against Blue for days on end, not one gaining any ground as they fought as if their lives depended on it, which it may well have considering that both sides aimed to maim if not kill. All it took was one simple distraction, a small stone being flung by a Youngling of all things, to bring the embodiment of the Dark to her knees screaming. Her brother, in her moment of distraction, had swiped for her head in the hope that he could behead her and end her pitiful existence once and for all. However, he'd missed and instead slashed her face. He had felt no remorse as she screamed in agony, clutching at her face as she desperately tried to fix the damage to no avail. Their brother could not see the battle, but he heard her soul shattering screams of pain and knew in that moment that Harbin had gone too far. For Harbin, the last thing he saw of his baby sister before she disappeared from his life for a millennium was the charred flesh, the wound over her eyes that had stolen her sight and had condemned her to a life of agony and darkness. Despite what he had done, he felt no remorse and even relished in the screams of the baby sister that he had beaten down and forgotten for so long. Nyx had retreated and was never seen by a living being again, doing everything she could to adapt to her new disability. She now held a deep bitterness for her brothers- one for her harming her the way he did and the other for not stopping the harm to her at all.
