Chapter 1

The day King lost his house

...

Once, there was a world. A world that was... different, from ours. This dimension had its own Earth, too. There wasn't anything special about it. At least, it seemed so.

Countless wars were waged and nature withered as a result. A place where everything was destroyed and turned into a desert. Yes, this place was Earth. Or, as it would be called in the future; Disboard.

To give a brief summary, the war, also known as 'The Great War' or 'The Eternal War' was caused by the gods, also known as the Old Deus, in order to obtain the Astral Grail which had the power to do anything, and thus its wielder would be crowned as the One True God, with absolute power above the other races. The Old Deus participating in the war had their creations fight for them; excluding the Ex-Machina and their creator, the goddess Holou. The attacks of the stronger races frequently transformed the landscape. Lesser animals lived during this time, as the result of the battle between the top races was akin to natural disasters. Humans could only survive by living secretly in caves and sending scouts to scavenge leftover wreckage left from battles between other races.

In the end, Tet won the war by default, and after Tet claimed the Astral Grail, he forbade all violence and created the Ten Pledges. He also completely morphed the world of Disboard from its originally bleached red skies and poisoned with the remains of dead Elementals to the colorful vibrant world it currently was. With the introduction of the Ten Pledges, and him being the God of Play, every single conflict was decided upon by games, ranging from people's lives to national borders.

Such was the world of Disboard, and thus, no more conflict arose. It would seem as though it was a paradise, but even that... could start to get boring.

[6,000 years later...]

"Aww... I'm bored as hell!" Said Tet to himself. "What can I do now?" This was a question he repeated to himself every day. It had been over a week since Sora and Shiro, the two sibling game masters from another world were sent over to Disboard, and nothing exciting happened, except that they became the leaders of Immanity and declared war against all the other races. It would be foolish to expect them both to take over the world in a short time, but that might turn out as the end result. They were great game masters. But what could he do? There was no one that could challenge him barring Blank (Sora and Shiro). And suddenly... he had an idea.

"...What if I bring someone else?"

Bringing someone else from another parallel universe again... "Nah, that'd be pointless." Tet said to himself. He was right; bringing a new gamer in shouldn't change anything, since Blank was unstoppable. They beat him, the God of Play, the One True God in chess, after all. "On second thought, who cares?" Tet smiled slyly. Yep, he was right. But it didn't change the fact that the idea of a new gamer started to get more and more interesting.

...

In another world, completely different from where the Ixseed and the Old Deus lived in, a certain bald man was having a casual walk down the street.

His look, his aura, everything about this man screamed nothing but average. If it weren't for his bald head and the hoodie with the word 'Oppai' displayed clearly on his chest, people wouldn't even think twice about paying attention to the man. The only real thing that set him aside was his lack of hair... and questionable clothing.

The man himself was content with people not paying any attention to him; as he didn't really care about what people thought about him.

At this moment, this man was headed to a friend's place. One would think that he'd be another normal, average person like he was.

On the contrary, the 'friend' he was visiting... was the 'Strongest Man On Earth', the 'Hero of Heroes'... S-Class Hero King.

"Hmmm, something's off..." The bald man thought, entering the building where 'The Strongest Man' lived. Something just didn't feel right. Also, if he knew anything about King and his bad luck that attracted monsters, something was definitely not right. "Maybe I'm just overthinking this..." Saitama said, about to open the door. Chances were, that bad feeling he felt was probably just a cold breeze over his shoulder-

"AAAARGH!" Saitama heard his friend's scream from behind the door.

"Why can't I just have a normal day for once?" Was what Saitama thought, as he entered the room where the scream came from.

In actuality, something like this was almost normal for Saitama. What he would've considered abnormal or even outlandish had become a part of his normal life now. Even the monsters that other heroes struggle to face were no different from ants for him.

Defeating the leader of intergalactic pirates? Collapsing evil associations that wanted to rule the world? Or Destroying secret organizations that were still stuck in their 'chuunibyou' phase and never grew out of them? All this was no different than buying a can of milk from the store.

The last survivor of some race, an ancient weapon of whomever, final evolution whatsits, he faced- and punched more of them than he swatted mosquitoes. Then again, he never did manage to swat a lot of those slippery bastards anyway. He could catch a kunai or a katana headed straight for his face, but those mosquitoes... it was as if some outside force prevented him from hitting those things.

Getting back on track, as Saitama opened the door, he saw King standing in the middle of his apartment living room, a strange aura emanating from inside the room. And there weren't any light sources in the room, aside from game monitors. Strange, it was in the afternoon when he visited, and light should be visible from inside the room. Not to mention, King was an avid gamer, but he never had that many monitors before. Actually... were they just floating in the air?

"King! What's going on?" Saitama called out to King, who seemed to be panicking in the middle of the room. Looking around haphazardly.

"Saitama, you're here! I don't know what's happening! Why's this-"

And suddenly... nothing. Both King and Saitama had disappeared from the room, and it was as if nothing happened. Like it was before all of that had happened.

[10 minutes earlier...]

"One!"

"Two!"

"Three!"

" *breathe* Four!"

"Five- *grunt*"

"*wheeze* Siiix-!" The voice started to sound more strained than before.

"*gasp* Seven!" There were some weird clicking sounds.

"Eeeeeeighttttt!" The voice sounded as though he was a spy being tortured for information.

"N- *gasp* Ni- *chortle* Nine!" It sounded as though he was going to die.

"T- TEN!" After the tenth push-up, the man gave up after collapsing on the ground. Doing push-ups were hard. Very hard. And for someone like him, it wasn't very different from an ant trying to topple an elephant. This person's most notable physical features were the set of three vertical scars over his left eye. It was the living legend, The Strongest Man On Earth, King! And the legendary King Engine was rumbling. There were rumors that said that it could shake the whole world.

In reality, this 'legend' was trying to be who the world saw him as. After deciding to listen to the advice of the real 'Strongest Man On Earth' and his closest friend- well, the only friend he had- he started to train his body. If the dojos he visited weren't going to accept him, then he'd have to start with basic strength training, like what Saitama did!

"I deserve a little rest," King said, wiping the sweat from his forehead with his hand. He collapsed onto the floor as a result of overworking his body and exhaustion. After he painfully did some push-ups, he sat up from his lying position, taking a breather and drinking some water. Though his friend Saitama did say he did 100 push-ups, sit-ups, squats, and 10-kilometer running every day when he was training...

Well, a start was better than nothing. Also, all he had was his bigger frame. Despite his frame, he was incredibly weak. He couldn't even do ten push-ups without collapsing! TEN! Still, if that was where he had to start, then he'd start there.

If Saitama did a hundred push-ups, sit-ups, squats, and ten kilometers, of running, then he'd start with ten push-ups, sit-ups, squats, and a kilometer of running.

But for the moment... he'd rather take a break. He'd continue the sit-ups, squats, and running later. Turning on his laptop to browse the internet for proper work-out tips, he noticed something new. "Hmm, there's a message?" Now that was strange. There wasn't anyone who knew his electronic address besides Saitama. And he doubted that Saitama knew how to send an email in the first place. Opening it, King read the short message.

"What if there was a world where monsters don't attack people constantly and everything is decided by games?"

King snickered. A world that was ruled by simple games? That was something for kids. To be honest, King was a NEET, excluding his job as a 'pro hero', but that was essentially dumped onto him without asking, so that went without saying that it didn't count. But at the same time, he was an adult. This was probably some kind of joke. But still, living in a world like that would be many times better than needing to chance being attacked by monsters every day of the week. King decided to reply.

"It would be interesting if there was a world like that "

"Would you like to live there?"

"Why not? " King responded, thinking that it was a random joke. "Beats needing to deal with monsters."

Suddenly, his room started to darken, until it was almost pitch black. His laptop monitor started glowing white and some other monitor screens appeared out of nowhere. But the strangest thing had yet to happen. From his laptop screen... a pair of hands reached out for King. The man who was said to be the absolute strongest in the world began to fear for himself.

"What the hell?!" He stepped back in trepidation. "What the hell's going on?!" King thought as he stood up from his seated position, backing away from the computer screen. It was obvious that something bad was going to happen. He was never lucky when it came to abnormal things.

"Then I will let you be reborn in another world!" Someone said from his monitor, as the room started to tremble and break apart. Suddenly, the door opened. King got hopeful when he saw the person at the door.

"King! What's going on?"

"Saitama, you're here! I don't know what's happening! Why's this-" That was all King could say before the both of them disappeared. At least, that was how it would seem to an outside observer.

...

From Saitama and King's point of view, they were falling. Yes, they were falling into nothingness. And in the next moment, a black box opened and it became clear that the 'black box' they were in was King's former house. But, this was not the time to think about it. THEY WERE LITERALLY FALLING FROM A FEW KILOMETERS ABOVE THE GROUND! King began to think back on what he had done to deserve this.

"King, what the hell is happening?!" Saitama said with his confused-yet-still-dopey face while falling next to King towards an unknown planet.

"I DON'T KNOOOW!" King shouted as he started to curse his life. It was always something like this, wasn't it?! No matter how low-profile he wanted to live his life, no matter how quietly he did anything, something, something would always latch onto him, pulling him into some dangerous situation! Monsters that were about to take over the city, a gang that was about to assassinate a political figure... he's gone through as many dangerous situations in his life as he ate rice. Now? Now they were falling from such a height that would make him some unrecognizable red splotch on the ground! Without a parachute!

A few seconds later, a strange-looking boy came closer to them as Saitama noticed someone was falling with them.

That boy had a small red-colored heart below his right eye. His most distinctive features were his eyes, as they were multi-colored. Though the boy had heterochromia, that wasn't the strangest thing about him, either. His right pupil was in the shape of a diamond, and his left eye had a spade-shaped pupil. He was wearing a large metal earring on his left ear which was shaped like a die, a blue choker, and bracelets on both arms. He was also wearing a red hoodie with a chartreuse shirt and typical blue shorts. The little kid had all the symbols of a deck of cards on him. The last suit of clubs was printed in yellow on his hat. The boy was also wearing a red sock on his right foot and a red piece of cloth wrapped around his left one.

"Welcome to my world! The world where everything's decided by simple games!" The little boy suddenly started talking to them, as if everything that was happening was the norm. "People's lives, to national borders!"

"Huh?!" King realized the situation in less than second. "SO IT WASN'T A JOKE?!" King started comically weeping, the tears sliding off his face as he fell at terminal velocity. To be completely honest, his reaction was entirely justified.

"Wait, wait, wait. Who are you, anyway?" Saitama asked. If he wasn't mistaken, then everything was this boy's doing? If so...

He might be pretty strong.

"Me? I'm Tet, I live over there!" He pointed to the large structure that looked like a chess piece in the distance. "A God?" He said, as if he himself was unsure.

"In this world, everything is decided by the Ten Pledges." Tet said, holding up ten fingers.

"One: All murder, war, and robbery is forbidden in this world." Tet then closed his other fingers, leaving his right index finger up.

"What are you talking about!? We're falling!" King shouted as loudly as he could.

"Two: Any conflict in this world will be resolved through games." Tet continued, ignoring King's frantic shouting.

"Three: In games, each player will bet something that they agree is of equal value."

"Oh, this is sorta interesting..." Saitama muttered with deadpan face, wondering what this kid was on about. And if he was to be believed, he was a God, as well.

"Four: As long as it doesn't go against the Third Pledge, What they bet and the rules of the game will not be questioned. Anything may be bet, and any game may be played."

"Saitama-bro, do something!" King yelled, hoping Saitama could do something about their situation.

"Five: The challenged party has the right to decide the rules of the game."

Saitama ignored King, as well. He was trying to listen to Tet's 'pledges'. He could save him later. The ground was approaching rapidly, but for him, there was plenty of time.

"Six: Any bets made in accordance with the pledges must be upheld."

"When we get out of here, I'm never touching any games ever again." King's voice was crackling and his body was drenched in sweat. "I'll just stick to training."

Well, Doki-Doki Sisters was an exception. He'd be a husk of his former self if he denied himself even his oasis.

"Seven: Conflicts between groups will be conducted by designated representatives with absolute authority."

"Who are these representatives, exactly?" Saitama asked.

"Eight: Being caught cheating during a game is grounds for an instant loss." Tet ignored Saitama as he continued explaining the Ten Pledges.

"We're gonna die. We're gonna die. WE'RE GONNA DIEEE!"

"Nine: In the name of God, the previous rules may never be changed."

The ground was approaching fast. Saitama prepared himself to save King.

"And ten: Let's all have fun and play together!"

Tet snapped his fingers and teleported them to safety.

Now, King and Saitama were on ground, in the middle of a dense forest. King was vomiting his insides out once he recovered his footing. Saitama tried to find Tet, but that strange kid that called himself a God wasn't around.

"This is new, even to me... probably" Saitama said to himself as he looked around. And suddenly his face lit up, getting serious. This was a new world, wasn't it? So, it was definitely possible that he could find a worthy opponent. But then he remembered what the little boy had said, and his excited and serious face morphed back to his deadpan egg-shaped look.

"One: All murder, war, and robbery is forbidden in this world."

Still, that just meant no murder, war, or robbery. That didn't mean that he couldn't have a fight with something, right? And with that train of thought, Saitama rekindled the hope he had for a fun fight, though he didn't fan his expectations too much, as it'd just be that much more disappointing if he couldn't find a worthy opponent even here.

But of course, Saitama immediately recovered and checked King's condition. King had recovered a little, after vomiting out the breakfast he had this morning. He was looking around, hoping that it was just a dream, but no. It was too real to be dream. Though he did have some dreams which almost felt indistinguishable from reality, there was one thing that he could do to check if he was still dreaming.

King pinched his thigh, and as the sharp feeling of pain jolted his hand away, King's hopes were dashed like a bullet through a wineglass.

This was real.

Suddenly, the ground shook, and beside them, a small red hill took off. As the red hill flew further away, it began to look more and more like a red creature of sorts. King took a closer took to try and find out what the creature was in order to forget what happened few minutes earlier, and out of genuine curiosity.

After it flew a distance away, King managed to determine what that red hill was earlier. He became speechless, though, as he realized what that creature that was right next to them few seconds ago.

"E-EHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!? T-that was... A DRAGON!"

As the forest was filled with the confused screaming of 'The Strongest Man On Earth', Saitama was wondering what he would have for dinner in this fantasy world.

Editor's note: Cleaned it up a little and added a few extra paragraphs here and there. I didn't change anything major.
