Hello welcome to my first ever attempt at writing a story hopefully you enjoy. I welcome all feedback please

Fuyuki, Japan

1994

A black hole in the sky could be seen pouring out what one could describe as "Mud", only this mud would engulf everything it touched into flame. Sparring nothing in its path the mud had consumed over 500 lives and over 134 buildings, all except one child.

"I have to keep moving" Shirou said to himself. All around Shirou hell was presented to him, flames as fire as the eye could see, buildings and streets he previously walked down, now set ablaze. The once peaceful streets filled with the light revving of a car, and idle chit chat of strangers talking one to another, now replaced with crackling of a raging fire and the moaning and cries for help of people being burned alive.

"Why is this happening?" Shirou thinks to him self while continuing to march on into hell. As he keeps treading he hears people plea to him.

"P-please h-help me". continuing on Shirou hears more pleas. "HELP US." "SAVE US." Shirou covers his ears and begins to pick up the pace walking anywhere but here, "WHY WON'T YOU HELP US." "WHY DO YOU GET TO SURVIVE?" Shirou starts to run while still holding his hands to his ears as tears begin to run down his face.

With the fire raging on Shirou starts to cough hard, so hard he starts to feel very light headed before he falls to the ground looking up to the sky only to see a black hole. " What is that? Is that thing what caused all of this?" Shirou thinks to himself before passing out due to the lack of oxygen.

Nearby a man in a black trench coat is crying his heart out as he searches for anyone who might still be alive. Lifting collapsed pieces of building looking for survivors even though his hands burned at the touch of said building pieces. He nearly gives up all hope until he finds it. Looking over the boy he sees that part of his body has been burned badly, and upon examination his eyes they appeared to be lifeless, but he could make out slight breaths of life in the boy how ever faintly.

"Thank god you're alive." "Thank you thank you." the man says to the boy. Just as he says that he curses to himself. "Fuck why won't these burns heal?" As much as the man tries to heal the burns they will not. "There has to be a way to heal you, you must live please." On the verge of giving up hope again he mutters to himself. "Avalon!"

Shirou isn't sure if he died. The last thing he remembers is looking at the black hole that was in the sky, but now as he slowly fades back into life he is barley able to make out a man and something else he cant quite make it out but upon gazing upon it he felt warmth. A warmth that allowed him to feel safe and away from harm. The last thing he hears before blacking out again is the man saying to himself. "Please let me at least save this child."

Fuyuki Hospital

Upon reawakening Shirou finds himself in a bed and hospital gown with a few bandages wrapped upon his body. "How did I get here?' Shirou thinks to himself. Looking out the window he suddenly has the images of last night flash through his mind remembering the fire, the screams, and also of the man. "Oh that's right."

The door suddenly opens and Shirou sees the same man in the the trench coat from the night before. The man looks at him and walks toward his bed eventually sitting beside him.

"Hello Shirou my name is Emiya, Kiritsugu you may not remember but I saved you from the fire that happened last night and it has been brought to my attention that you will be sent to an orphanage pretty soon so i wish to ask which you would prefer being sent to one, or being adopted by a man you just met.

Shirou took sometime to look at the man he looks like he has been through hell, normally a child wouldn't accept this proposal but, for some unknown reason Shirou felt at total ease with this mans offer as he just nodded to himself and pointed his finger at Kiritsugu.

"Ah I'm glad well we better get you changed so you can get accustomed to your new home, oh and there is something else i wanted to tell you...yeah its best if I be up and front with you Shirou...I am a mage."

All of this goes on while other children also survivors of the same fire and presumably off to said orphanage look on. Kiritsugu oblivious to them only focusing on Shirou doesn't seem to care that they might be listening in on their conversation. Shirou however sees their faces, words don't need to be said to know what they all where thinking.

WELL AREN'T YOU LUCKY.

Emiya Estate

Kiritsugu was drinking coffee as workers around the complex were building the Emiya estate. Emiya, Shirou reflects what Kiritsugu said to him at the hospital. "A mage... is that how he was able to save me? If only I was a mage I could of helped those people too." Shirou losing no time walks up to Kiritsugu and for the first time in the few days he has known his now adopted father he speaks his first words to him. "Kiritsugu I wish to be a mage just like you."

Kiritsugu surprised at Shirou's statement he merely puts his coffee down and tells him. "Shirou I like your enthusiasm but, being a mage is not so simple especially...one like me." I don't care in that fire that you pulled me out of I wasn't able to save anybody, I couldn't even help myself... but you, you were able to save me, I want to be able to save people just like you saved me." Shirou said back with determination and desire in his eyes.

Kiritsugu can tell that Shirou won't be persuaded no matter what. He reminds him a little of himself when he was young back when he met Natalia. He had this same mind set that Shirou had. "Hmmm... very well then Shirou I will teach you to become a mage just like me. "Great when can we begin?" asked Shirou. Kiritsugu reaches into his coat and pulls out a cigarette and lights it and inhales then exhales a puff of smoke into the air. "Hang on before I teach you I want to tell you what mages really are, and I want to tell you exactly what happened that night of the Fuyuki fire. "What do you mean, you know how the fire started?" asked Shirou. "Yes I do believe I know what caused that disaster, Shirou what I'm about to tell you may sound crazy and impossible to anyone who isn't a mage. Let me tell you about the Fourth Holy Grail War.
