Who said you're alone?

Chapter One

Special Agent Gibbs was remembering the last time he's been truly alone? Sitting at his desk for NCIS. He had his entire team leave the bullpen for a case that he wasn't needed right now after coming back from medical leave with being in the hospital after hitting his head and the metal plate.

Director Leon Vance had advised Gibbs to stay put for the rest of the day signing files to be given to Vance's office. Oh, how he hated paperwork from over the years for when he had to fill in for Leon. Now he was stuck again at his own desk filling alone with everybody else behind him busy with their own work.

He started to look at the photos on his desk with the pictures of his wife Loreile and two boys Shane and Nathan taken outside in the back of his house with Phineas. Phineas had been helping out the boys with learning English and their letters. Every time he looked around for his sons. They were around the 12-year-old boy with his own agenda to better himself ever since his mother Sarah was shot by Gibbs saving Ziva David.

He needed to get some air by leaving the building to buy himself coffee at the one vendor he visits every day. And of all people was standing drinking his coffee to be his F.B.I. friend Tobias Fornell. The last time he had seen him was when Merriweather was arrested as with his daughter on her 21st birthday.

"Tobias what are doing here?" he was grumpy with his greeting...

"And hello to you too, Butch?" he said with his hair having been cut once again to be totally short.

He hands him a file he wants him to read at home since it's an OFF THE BOOKS operation that has nothing to do with the Cartel. But rather a group of diamond smugglers working in the diamond district for which the F.B.I. have been working on the case for almost a year with nothing to show for it.

"And you want me to talk with Vance about the undercover operation?" Gibbs needed to get his point over.

Drinking the last of his black coffee. "Now what do you think Jethro? The F.B.I. will be in your debt with sending in a team of undercover agents."

"Oh, sure Tobias. And now I will need to convince Loreile that I will be up to the challenge with the operation after what happened the last time with Wendell Corey shooting me in my shoulder and my head hitting the metal plate?" Gibbs commented with shaking his head.

"Maybe your team will be able to help somewhat Jethro unless they are already tied up with their cases?" he rubbed his chin trying to convince his friend.

"Okay, I will speak with them tonight when I am home. Right now I need to head up to Vance's office and see what he has to say. Talk to you late this evening with making sure you're keeping your cell phone on?"

"Of course Butch!" Tobias walked away to head back to his house to spend some time with Emily ever since had come home after disappearing for three months.

Director Leon Vance didn't more problems today with his office and the endless calls from SECNAV and the Pentagon. He was supposed to be heading out later when General Waverly decided to canceled the Intel meeting.

Drinking his hot coffee that his secretary Melanie had made before leaving to run errands for other departments. When the door opened with Special Agent Gibbs walked in with a file in his hand.

He looks up at Gibbs standing like he always does waiting...

"Don't tell me you have something that might involve an undercover operation?" his tone had put off Vance in a way that he wasn't interested.

"Take a goddamn look before you prejudge anything?" Gibbs was pissed as he hands him to file to read while sitting down with his back a little bit stiff since being released from the hospital.

He stayed quiet until Vance was ready to say about the operation...

"So you're telling me that the F.B.I. wasn't able to find a thing on this group of diamond smugglers?" he directed the question to his supervisory agent.

"Correct. Do you suggest that we asked Doctor Anthony Sterling since he's taken over for Sloane with figuring out some type of a profile on this group?" Gibbs commented with shifting in his chair...

"I would if I was you, Gibbs?" Vance with his grumpy altitude...

"I am going to talk with you now. Otherwise, I am going home afterward since Taft has me with working limited of hours during the next few days."

"Get out of here already Gibbs !" he was hot under the collar with the long day...

Gibbs didn't know how to go about it with Doctor Anthony Sterling. Having dealt with him earlier with Sloane now gone for New York and her daughter.

His door was opened sitting at his desk talking to someone on the phone. He had picked up his head to see Special Agent Gibbs with some type of a file in his hand as he sat down to wait until he was done with his call trying to be patient.

He had crossed his legs with his right knee slightly stiff as always as if he should get used to it from over the years.

It was a moment later he had finished with his call. "How can I help you, Agent Gibbs?" He will say with his voice stern...

"Doctor I need your help with three profiles that might be able me on an undercover operation." Gibbs handed the file to him to take a look.

While he sat and waited for his opinion.

"Now this is interesting agent Gibbs. Diamond Smugglers! I remember a case before I transferred here for were three diamond smugglers using the same instruments to break into certain stores that had sold diamonds. And it would seem to be the same trio?" he will say to have Gibbs sitting up in his chair. "I must tell you these three are very dangerous, sneaky and they know how to use weapons that will stop at nothing to get what they want in the first place?" he had already given a great deal on the case for when it comes to murder and their basic profits. Did I help you, Agent Gibbs?" he looked at the agent with his crystal blue eyes lighting up with excitement.

"You certainly did Doctor! If you come up with anything else I will be home?" Gibbs said to be needing to talk with his wife Loreile about the operation.
