Cause I've Been Waiting On You

Rin held tight to Sesshomaru's robes as they flew through the blue sky. Rin leaned into her husband's robes and sighed in happiness.

They had spent the night together and watched the stars sparkling in the night sky. She had also chased after a few fireflies. The night air perfect for their little insects' flight.

Sesshomaru soon hummed and Rin felt themselves being lowered to the ground. Looking around, Rin saw that they were on the outskirts of the village. Whenever he dropped her off, he stayed out of the village. He was mindful of observers and did not want any prying eyes on them.

Rin's small feet felt hard earth underneath her and Sesshomaru's hands lingered on her hips before stepping away.

"Thank you, Lord Sesshomaru. When will I see you again?" Rin said softly smiling.

"A few days, this Sesshomaru has business to attend to."

Rin held back the look of sadness that was threatening to peek through. She steadied her resolved and softly said, "This Rin will await your return, my lord." She then bowed to her husband.

Sesshomaru only looked at her, a beginning of a small smile starting to form but quickly disappeared.

"Rin."

And then he was off.

Rin smiled at her husband as he vanished into the blue sky and turned to head back to the small hut she shared with the old miko Kaede.

Unbeknownst to Rin as she made her small journey home, were several hardened eyes watching in disdain.

~oOo~

Rin wiped away the sweat from her brow. Today was wash day. After arriving home from her night with Sesshomaru, she gathered her yukatas. She had looked for Kaede but ran into Kagome who explained that the old miko had gone into a neighboring village that needed assistance. The healer had fallen ill and Kaede was tending to a sick family. Kagome was not sure when Kaede would be home. Rin was more than ok with Kaede being away.

Over the years of sharing a hut with Kaede, Rin had grown to love the old miko. She was like a mother to her now. Rin had not realized she missed having another female around her as a child.

When traveling with master Jaken and lord Sesshomaru, Rin didn't notice. She was young then. To have any kind of companionship after what she had gone through as a small child warmed her small heart at the time.

Now that she was older….she was grateful to have Kagome, Sango, and especially Kaede as part of her small make-shift family.

But….sometimes it was nice to be space from Kaede. It was nice to have the hut all to herself and enjoy a quiet night reading. Now that Kaede has taught her how to read, Rin absorbed as much reading material that was presented to her.

When Sesshomaru had left Rin behind all those years ago, she overheard him telling Kaede that she needed to learn how to read. Each time lord Sesshomaru visited, Rin made it a point to bring along her washi paper and practice reading out the kanji characters. She wanted to show her lord that she was following his instructions. That she was doing as told if one day in the future Sesshomaru would take her back with him.

Once lord Sesshomaru had seen that Rin was progressing in her reading, he started bringing her reading materials and asked that she read them out loud for him. She happily obliged and on days when he returned to visit her, they would spend time by the god tree with only the birds chirping and Rin's soft voice reading. Sesshomaru only sat, never speaking, moko-moko softly twitching over his shoulder.

Rin fanned herself and went back to dunking the current yukata she had gripped in her hands.

"Well, if it isn't the little demon lover all by herself." A female voice called in callousness.

Rin took a deep breath and rolled her eyes, 'For heaven's sake…'

"Yes, Ao?" Rin asked turning to look at the group of young women who were currently staring at her.

Standing before her was Ao, Chinami, Junko, and Rinako.

Rin had come to know these women very well.

They made it very apparent that they hated youkai and looked down on anyone who mingled with youkai.

Especially herself and Kagome because they were both married to youkai.

Usually, the women stayed away because Kaede would reprimand them for their rudeness or Inuyasha would chase them away.

Rin realized now she made the mistake of coming to the river to wash by herself.

Now it wasn't that Rin couldn't defend herself or hold her own. The young woman just wasn't in the mood to deal with their snootiness. Especially after this morning when lord Sesshomaru had told her he would be gone for a few days and…she was already missing him.

Deep in her heart, Rin knew this was probably why Sesshomaru always insisted on dropping her off on the edge of the village. She also had lingering thoughts this was also a reason why Sesshomaru would not make his stay permanent.

Even though they were married now and sometimes couples did and did not live together, Rin longed for her husband to stay with her. She wanted nothing more than to come home to his presence after a long day of work.

She only wished to come home to his embrace every night.

But women like Ao and her friends…..

Villagers like these made it impossible.

But then again…who was she to ask her husband to settle down in a human village?

She knew that her husband was a free spirit. He never liked staying in one place for too long. He was so much like her….they were both wanderers…..dreamers…..they liked being able to do as they please whenever they pleased.

No….she could never ask him to settle down in this village where youkai-hating humans lived.

Her lord Sesshomaru gave up his title for her…..she could sacrifice some of her peace for him.

"Where is your demon husband at?" Ao asked in a smug voice.

"It's none of your concern, Ao. Now if you don't mind, I need to finish up my washing and I have other things I need to attend to once I'm finished here." Rin said, turning back to her yukatas.

"Actually, I do mind, Rin the demon lover." Ao snapped.

Rin sighed and turned back, ready to hear whatever Ao and her friends had come up with this time.

Rin merely eyed the women in front of her, waiting.

She highly doubted this would be the last time Ao would voice her opinion.

"When are you leaving this village? We don't need you here especially with that demon husband of yours." Ao said, crossing her arms. Her friends behind her smiled and nodded in agreement.

Rin stayed silent. She knew they were looking for a reaction from her.

Ao cleared her throat, "You're doing nothing but placing this village in danger with your demon husband lurking about. At least Kagome had the sense to move further out with her hanyou husband."

Rin felt her eyes narrowed but held her tongue. She would leave Ao to Inuyasha. Both Kagome and Inuyasha did not need her to defend them.

Ao turned to her friends, laughing in glee. She then turned back to Rin to see the young woman still calmly standing in peace. Rin could tell that her lack of reaction was only causing Ao to become more upset.

"What? You couldn't find a human man to want you? You're so desperate for a lover you would choose a demon over a human? How pathetic are you, hm Rin?" Ao said slowly walking forward.

Rin squared her shoulders and lifted her chin in defiance. She refused to back down to this woman.

"No Ao, it's not that I was so desperate for a lover that I picked a demon for a husband," Rin said, raising an eyebrow.

"Well little orphan Rin, that's how it looks to us. Poor little Rin couldn't find a human husband. You're so old now and no one wanted you. So, what other options did you have? Oh I know! Choose the demon that brought you to our village all those years ago. Surely he would want a scrawny little thing like you." Ao said in triumphant. She was also nose to nose with Rin by this point as well.

Rin so angry now, felt herself shaking. She stared into Ao's eyes and saw nothing but hate. Ao would never learn. Ao would never see past her prejudice that all demons weren't bad.

"You're so stupid Rin….there is nothing good about demons. Your demon husband will probably kill you one day."

"You're wrong, Ao." Rin calmly said.

"Oh am I?" Ao shot back.

"Yes, you stupid woman," Rin said, stepping forward causing Ao to step back.

"Some demons are terrible, I know that. But some demons are kind. Some of them have a good heart, a loving heart. Some of them love without hesitation. Some of them would gladly sacrifice themselves for their friends. I saw lord Inuyasha defeat Naraku, I was there at the end. I was there when lord Inuyasha and my husband and all their friends come together and took down a demon that meant to destroy this very village you live in now. My husband and lord Inuyasha did not have to do the things they did but they choose to! Because they care about us humans. Some demons are more kind than humans."

Rin stopped looking between Ao and her friends.

"It's people like you that make me see demons as loving and kind beings. You're the one that are disgusting, you're the one that makes me lose faith in humans. Lord Sesshomaru and master Jaken were the only kind souls to me after my family died. The humans I lived with….treated me like I was nothing…..I was nothing but…vermin to them. So no Ao, my demon husband would never harm me. There are good demons out there just like there are good humans. It's also the same about bad demons being out there just as there are bad humans….like you. Now I must get back to my washing." Rin said. She turned back and quickly wrang out her yukata, placing it in her basket. She lifted it to her hip and started walking away but stopped dead in her tracks at Ao's next words.

"Oh Rin….you're so blind to see that one day you'll be nothing to your precious lord Sesshomaru. Demons live far longer lives than you and I…one day you'll be long dead and who's to say your demon lover won't take another wife? A demon wife? You're nothing but a passing infatuation to him. Nothing but something he pities…He always leaves you behind, doesn't he? How do you know that he doesn't have another wife somewhere else?"

Rin's breath caught in her throat, and she slowly turned.

Ao stood there, her head held high and smiling.

So Ao thought she won…..

Rin slowly walked back to Ao and once within a foot of the smiling woman, Rin slapped her. Hard.

Ao staggered back and gasped, her hand quickly coming to her cheek which was quickly turning red.

Ao's friends rushed forward, coming to check on her.

"You little bi-" Ao started to say.

"Don't you dare try to tell me how my husband feels." Rin's eerily calm voice said.

All the women backed away, looking towards each other in worry.

"I know my husband's heart just as I know mine. He has never loved another and once I pass on, he will most likely never love again. I love him with every fiber of my being, and I KNOW he feels the same for me. Our lives are connected…should either of pass before the other than I….know…that fate will bring us back together." Rin said in earnest.

"Who are you to say who loves another? You don't know us….you don't know anything about us. I pity you Ao….you lack…..compassion for others. The depths of compassion my husband shows speaks sheer volumes of his humanity. My husband has a good and kind heart. It's more than you'll ever have, you spiteful woman."

The river stood quiet.

None of the women spoke.

Rin stood there blinking back the tears that were welling in her eyes.

She spoke true, Sesshomaru has never loved anyone else….but she knew one day she would pass before Sesshomaru. She knew her life was nothing but a tiny drop in an ocean compared to his life span. She knew that once she passed on, her beloved Sesshomaru would be…alone.

Feeling the weight of such a heavy burden, Rin quickly wiped her eyes and ran from the river leaving behind a stunned group of women.

~oOo~

Rin ran until her legs burned with tears running down her face. She didn't know how long she was running, only that she needed to getaway. She felt like she couldn't breathe. Rin finally stumbled into a clearing, her basket falling to the ground with a loud thud. She fell to her hands and knees, gasping for air. Her lungs screaming for oxygen. Sucking in huge gups of air, Rin pressed her head to the ground.

Sesshomaru…..

Rin felt more tears spring to her eyes at her husband's name.

How could she leave him?

Was she damning him by loving him…

No!

She loved Sesshomaru, she wouldn't change any of it.

With her lungs no longer burning and her breathing evening out, Rin sat back on her shins.

Rin knew deep in her heart that demons lived longer than humans, she had always known that.

Sighing Rin sat back on her behind, tucking her legs to her chest.

The sky suddenly turned dark, storm clouds gathering. In the distance, she could hear thunder. Looking up, Rin saw that the blue sky was now grey.

"Figures…..the sky to match my mood…." Rin said to no one.

Rin wiped her eyes but found the tears still flowed.

Pressing her forehead to her knees, Rin silently cried.

She loved her husband with all her heart but in the end…..they would only have so much time that they would be together. Her life span would only allow her another…what….40…50 years? Sesshomaru was already approaching 900 years old.

Her short life was truly nothing next to his.

Rin's tears only flowed harder.

In some way Ao was right…..

She would be long dead, but her husband would continue to live on without her.

"Stupid Ao…" Rin whispered through her tears.

Her morning had been going perfectly until Ao opened her stupid mouth.

"What causes my wife to cry?"

Rin's head snapped up from her knees.

Standing before her looking pristine as ever was her husband Sesshomaru.

Rin sniffled and then felt very stupid.

"Nothing…it's nothing," Rin said, looking away.

She didn't want to burden him with her silly feelings. There was nothing he could say that change what was to come.

"Hm."

Sesshomaru then took Rin's basket and disappeared. Rin looked at the empty spot completely befuddled.

Sesshomaru then reappeared just as it started to rain. He gently scooped her up from the ground, holding her close to his chest, and flew away into the grey sky morning. Rin only sighed and leaned into her husband's chest, merely waiting.

They landed in a secluded area of the forest very far from the village. The thick trees branches providing a canopy of shelter against the rain.

Sesshomaru gently placed Rin down but when she tried to move away, she felt Sesshomaru's hands keep in her place.

"This Sesshomaru would like your answer about my inquiry from earlier." Sesshomaru gently asked, he then gently lifted Rin's chin up to meet his intense amber eyes.

Rin sighed and stared into his warm eyes.

God, his eyes…..she would do anything to see those eyes.

"Some of the other village women questioned me on…our relationship. It's stupid, I let them get to me when I shouldn't have." Rin said, trying to play off the seriousness of it. She once again tried to move away from her husband, but he held firm to her waist.

"What did they say?" Her husband asked.

"It's not important, my lord," Rin said, lowering her eyes.

"Rin…..look at me." Sesshomaru's low voice asked.

Even though Sesshomaru had a gentle grip on her chin, Rin had lowered her eyes to avoid looking at him.

She slowly raised her eyes to his, she gasped at the intensity she saw.

"Tell me."

Staring into her husband's eyes, Rin finally answered, "They told me I should leave this village with my demon husband. That I'm placing this village in danger. That my life span is nothing compares to yours…."

Sesshomaru only tilted his head to the side, "There is more."

Rin nodded, "They also said….more like implied….that you don't love me. That after I die, you would probably take another wife…." By the end of her statement, tears were falling from her eyes.

Sesshomaru gently cupped Rin's face in his hands and pressed their foreheads together.

"There will never be another in this Sesshomaru's life."

"I know that…..I shouldn't have let them bother me like that." Rin said, leaning into her husband's hands.

"But it did." Sesshomaru said.

RIn pulled away at the point and walked a few feet away from her husband.

"My lord…my life is very short compared to yours. One day I will be gone and you will be…..alone. How can I go on knowing that one day I will be no more, and you will be left wandering the lands? You will have master Jaken but…Sesshomaru…it's true."

Rin hugged herself at the end of her statement. It had started raining…even though the rain wasn't seeping past the thick tree branches, Rin could feel the chill in the air.

Rin couldn't stop the dark thoughts of her husband being left alone from swirling in her head…

Alone….wait…that's it!

Quickly turning to face her husband, Rin nearly fell over when she bumped into Sesshomaru. Her husband quickly caught her, bringing her to his chest.

Sesshomaru had a strange look in his eyes…

"My lord?" Rin asked quietly.

"It is true….one day you will be gone from my presence…..This Sesshomaru will be lost without you…..but your life is tied to mine. We will meet again in another life. This Sesshomaru shall wait for you. The only other wife this Sesshomaru would ever take would be your reincarnated soul."

Rin sobbed out, she grasped onto Sesshomaru's robes, "But….you would be alone waiting for me….who knows long it will be before I am reborn?"

Rin pressed her forehead against Sesshomaru's chest, she wrapped her arms around his waist.

"It is the cost of being a daiyoukai, my wife."

Neither spoke as the heavy moment stretched on. Rin could hear the soft sounds of the rain falling around them.

"Rin…..what the other villagers say matters not. You know my feelings for you are true. You know my heart….you have always had my heart, my mate. This Sesshomaru is true to his word. I shall mourn for you but will wait upon your return in the future."

Sesshomaru then pulled Rin away from him, he gently wiped away her tears, "Your tears bring grief to my heart….do not worry about the what if….it will not change anything. Worry about the here and now. Know that this Sesshomaru loves you and will do whatever he can to please you."

Rin took a deep breath and nodded. Sesshomaru was right…why worry about tomorrow when there was nothing she could do to change any of it. Rin cupped her husband's face, studying his demon markings. She then traced her small fingers along the maroon stripes that adorned his face. He closed his eyes when she reached his eyelids. She reached his crescent moon and smiled. After softly caressing his face, she gently traced his soft lips and giggled when Sesshomaru's nipped at her fingers.

"Yes….you're right my lord…..but this Rin forget something very simple," Rin said smiling, her fingers going back to his stripes on his cheeks.

"Hm?"

"I will give you many children my lord….many children to keep you occupied while you wait for me." Rin said in a jovial tone.

Sesshomaru's eyes darken then and a small growl escaped his lips.

"My lord?..." Rin asked in a curious voice.

Sesshomaru suddenly cupped one side of her face and his other hand pressed her close to his body. His head bent down and claimed her mouth in a heated kiss.

Rin then felt herself being lowered to the soft ground; her legs parted making room for her husband.

Before Rin realized the day had turned into evening with Sesshomaru repeatedly showing his love for her. His mouth and hands everywhere. Rin had never felt such tenderness and love until that night. She would softly call out his name into the soft wet air around them each time he brought her to another zenith of pleasure. He brought her to such heights she had never known, her body sensitive to his every touch. Every touch was like lightning to her core, her body sang for him. Finally, at the end, when he allowed himself release within her body, he called out her name. Her name fell from his lips as if it was the most precious word he had ever uttered. Her name being a secret treasure he only had access to. She climaxed once again after him, a sob ripping from her throat at the intensity of their last coupling.

Sesshomaru held her close as she wept in his arms, their limbs tangled together, bodies locked in the most intimate of embraces.

Their bodies still connected, Sesshomaru nuzzled her cheek and softly growled.

"I have something I wish to show you. Come."

The couple quietly dressed and Sesshomaru spirited them away. Rin's eyes widen in shock when Sesshomaru landed outside a villa.

"My lord…what is this?" Rin asked in awe.

The villa was modest but beautiful, it appeared to be one level. Looking around, Rin saw a large stone wall sheltering the villa from the outside world. Rin turned back to her husband in question.

Sesshomaru only tilted his head and gestured for her to walk inside.

Feeling happiness slowly crept into her stomach. Rin quickly walked in and gasped.

It was beautiful. Walking from room to room, Rin hummed in excitement. Each room was furnished with minimal furniture. She reached a large room that had a futon laid out. Looking around, she saw a wardrobe. Walking forward, she opened it and saw beautiful kimonos and yukatas tucked within. She closed the doors and looked towards the sliding shoji doors. Rin ran over and opened them to reveal a beautiful garden.

Rin finally turned to Sesshomaru, almost afraid to ask, Rin quietly said, "Lord Sesshomaru…..whose villa is this?..."

Sesshomaru allowed the smallest of smiles to grace his face, his features easing, and replied, "It is yours's my wife. A place for us to grow together and for our many children you are adamant on having."

Rin clutched her chest and whimpered. She ran forward and embraced her husband with all her strength.

"Thank you my love….thank you…." Rin whispered into his chest.

Sesshomaru lifted Rin's chin up and said, "No more tears…."

Rin laughed and cupped her husband's face, "These are tears are joy, my husband."

"Hm."

Sesshomaru then led Rin to sit in the garden. The couple watching the night sky, the dreary clouds from earlier now vanishing, leaving behind only the shining moon in its place.

~oOo~

~Present Day~

Sesshomaru watched the young woman as she skated around the park with her earbuds in. Her movements gracefully, her arms moving along the beat of the music. She was breathtaking today. Her long hair flowed around her, her petite body moving along to the beat of whatever she was listening to. Her lips sang along with no words escaping her mouth.

Sesshomaru had been watching her for the past five years. He had to be sure this was…..

As each day passed, there was no doubt of who she was.

It was her.

His mate that he had been waiting for during the past few centuries.

Her light shined through as it did back then during the Sengoku era. Her aura the same.

Rin….

She had finally returned to him.

Sesshomaru watched as she came to a slow stop, he could see sweat glistening on her tone body. She pulled her phone from her pocket and swiped through for a moment. She took out her earbuds and skated her way to her friend that was sitting down. The two women began conversing and laughing.

Sesshomaru continued watching the women for the next hour. Considering the era he was in, he had to look the part of a modern-day citizen. Thankfully he had his children to help him in that area. Today his daughters had dressed him in a pair of dress pants, polo and he hid his eyes behind a pair of dark sunglasses. Setsuna had braided his long hair and also applied concealer to his markings.

"Today is the day father?" A male voice said next to him.

Sesshomaru turned to his son, Asahi.

His son was a mirror image of himself which is why Rin chose the name Asahi for him. She held their son in her arms saying, "My lord…you were the sunlight in my dark world when we met. Now you have given me five children so far. This one will be called Asahi. The sunlight that woke me up from a long dark dream."

Sesshomaru answered his son, "Yes, everything has been prepared and it will happen today."

Asahi nodded and sat back next to his father. Both men watching the woman in the park.

~oOo~

Takara happily sighed and waved bye to Kura. They had spent the day skating and were now leaving the restaurant after dinner. Takara walked along singing a song that was stuck in her head when she passed by the park again. Stopping in her step, she noticed there was a bright light coming from the other side along with some people walking around dressed in old period costumes. Squinting, she figured they looked to be of Sengoku era style.

'That's weird…I don't remember there being any sort of event taking place today..'

Her curious now piqued, Takara slowly made her way to the bright light. Walking deeper into the park, she saw a large fire. A few of the people she walked past smiled and nodded their heads in greeting.

"Hello,"

Takara turned and saw a young woman with short silver hair with a maroon streak, smiling at her.

Takara smiled back, "Oh hello, I'm sorry. The fire caught my eye. Is there some sort of festival going on today? I don't remember seeing any signs about it earlier today."

"No." The woman answered back.

'Must be a private event.' Takara thought to herself.

"Oh, I'm so sorry. I'll be on my way then; I did not mean to intrude." Takara then turned to leave but stopped when the woman called out.

"What's your name?"

Takara turned back, "Takara."

The woman smiled, "Takara…it's a pretty name. It means jewel, right?"

"Yes, it can mean jewel or treasured jewel depending on how you spell it," Takara answered.

Just then another woman appeared standing next to the silver-haired woman. This woman had dark hair and also had a maroon streak as well.

"Treasured jewel….Rin also means treasured jewel if my memory is correct." The dark-haired woman then said.

Takara smiled, "Yes, my friends actually call me Rin. I don't really know why but I actually prefer Rin. It feels more…me. I know that may sound strange."

Both women smiled and the silver hair woman bowed, "It's nice to meet you Takara."

The human woman nodded, "Well I should let you guys get back to your event then. Goodnight."

"Actually, our father said you can stay, Takara."

Rin looked around but did not see anyone else.

"Your father said I can stay?" Takara asked quirking an eyebrow.

"Yes, come, you can sit with us." The dark-haired woman said, walking ahead.

Takara looked around and the silver-haired woman nodded.

Takara followed after the two women and soon she was standing near the large pit where the fire was coming from.

Takara also noticed a few more people filing in around them. She was a bit puzzled by the fact that everyone either had dark brown hair or silver hair.

Takara turned to the silver-haired woman to her right, "Is this a ceremony?"

"Something like that…. it's a rebirth ceremony for…..someone important." The woman said with a small smile.

Everyone around her fell to a quiet hush and all looked towards the far end of the park.

Takara followed their eyes to see a silhouette of a figure approaching. As the silhouette grew closer, she could see it was a man.

Takara followed the silhouette as he grew closer and closer. He was so close that he was now standing a few feet from her.

Takara gasped, this man was….beautiful. Tall with silver hair, he had a dignified poise to him. He moved with such grace and fluidity. He was dressed in Sengoku era costume as well. White robes with a yellow obi. He appeared to have two swords tucked into his obi as well. Most likely props, Takara thought to herself.

He also had….maroon markings on his face.

'He is really into his cosplay…' Takara thought to herself.

But….why did he seem familiar…..

Takara shook her head as if to shake the notion from her head.

'Come on Takara, you would definitely remember if you ever met this man before.'

The silver-haired man then called out, "We have waited for this night for centuries…the time has time. We are all in agreement on what must be done and that we cannot interfere once it begins?"

Everyone answered around her, "Yes."

The silver-haired man then started walking forward. Takara slightly panicked when she realized he was walking towards her.

"Would you care to assist me?" The tall silver-haired man asked, holding out a large hand.

Takara gasped and opened her mouth to decline but felt the silver-haired woman next to her gently push her forward.

"She would be more than the willing father. She said her name is Takara."

"Hm...treasured jewel...Rin suits you much more." The silver-haired man said and gently clasped her sweaty hand in his.

Takara was led to the large fire pit and a teacup was placed in her hands. Looking at the steaming liquid, Takara looked back to the silver-haired man.

"What is this?"

"Drink." The silver-haired man said.

Takara turned back to the two women who brought her here, both nodded and smiled.

Taking a deep breath, Takara drank what was in the cup and returned it. The silver hair man then handed her a beautiful necklace.

"Put this on."

Takara held the necklace in her hands, fingering the stone in the middle. It was a dark purple stone, about half the size of her palm. It was framed in what appeared to be….diamonds?!

"Sir, please I cannot wear this," Takara said in a pleading voice, pushing the necklace back towards him.

The silver-haired man took the necklace from her shaking hands and Takara let out a sigh. Takara's eyes widen though when he suddenly stepped forward and placed the necklace around her neck.

Takara stepped back but bumped into the dark-haired woman.

"It's ok, you can wear it." She said.

Takara stood in her spot nervously and nodded.

The dark-haired woman then stepped to the large fire. She looked towards the silver-haired man who nodded. He then walked around and stood a few feet from Takara. She could feel his gaze just watching her.

The dark-haired woman closed her eyes and started chanting. After a few minutes, Takara felt something hot against her chest. Looking down she saw the necklace was glowing. She reached up with her hands to take it off but suddenly felt herself being pulled down. She collapsed against the ground, her body shaking.

Gasping for air, she felt someone lift her chin. It was the silver-haired man, his amber eyes almost glowing in the firelight.

"Help me…" Takara whimpered. She squeezed her eyes shut as a deep pain course through her body.

"It will pass…my dear wife." The silver-haired man said.

Takara's eyes widen at his words, and she suddenly screamed as pain seared through her body. Her head was throbbing, Takara clutched her head and whimpered.

A youkai hissed at her as she approached.

"Your generosity is wasted; I told you I do not eat human food."

"Rin, get back here!" Master Jaken yelled.

"Have you been well Rin?"

"NO! I don't want to go with you. Lord Sesshomaru will come for me! Lord Sesshomaru!"

"Good luck Lord Sesshomaru."

"Lord Sesshomaru, when I die will you remember me?"

"Rin, for now, I wish you stay in this human village. I will come to visit you often."

Thousands of images whirled through Takara's mind, a lifetime of memories all coming back to her.

"You know my feelings for you are true. You know my heart….you have always had my heart, my mate. This Sesshomaru is true to his word. I shall mourn for you but will wait upon your return in the future."

"I shall wait upon your return in the future."

His words rang in her head….their children…..everything slowly coming back to her.

Takara clawed at the ground under her hands.

No...not Takara...

...Rin...

Rin blinked a few times, her vision hazy and then clearing up.

Rin's chocolate orbs stared into amber eyes. Amber eyes that were waiting, pleading for her to remember.

With a smile that only she could give her husband, the woman softly exclaimed, "Lord Sesshoumaru!"

Sesshomaru quickly lifted her from the ground and she wrapped her legs around his waist. With her hands squeezing his shoulders, Rin pressed her forehead to her husband's and whispered, "I'm sorry I kept you waiting for so long my love."

Sesshomaru smiled his first real smile in centuries and cupped Rin's cheek, "It matters not…you are here now and I have no intention of letting you go again."

As the couple embraced, their descendants crowded around them. Tears of joy and happiness spreading like wildfire.

The Inu family celebrated well into the night.
