Chapter I: Divided We Fall
/Imperial Record: Current Time Stamp/Year 016.M31
The Horus Heresy had come to an end. The Imperium had won but at the gravest of costs, the Emperor Of Mankind was wounded and now bound to the Golden Throne to guide humanity. The legions whom betrayed the Emperor now declared by his word before his entombment as "Excommunicate Traitoris."
The Primarch of the Imperial Fists Legion, Rogal Dorn leads a personnel crusade known as the "Great Scouring" to eradicate all traces of the Traitor Legions from every inch of the galaxy.
The Traitor Legions themselves consisting of the Word Bearers, World Eaters, Alpha Legion, Sons Of Horus, Iron Warriors, Death Guard, Night Lords, and Thousand Sons are ever pushed back and withdraw.
Making their retreat toward the rimward edge of the galaxy, to the galactic northwest of Terra, in the Segmentum Obscurus. Where the Ocularis Terribus resides or simply known as "The Eye of Terror."
The journey to the Eye Of Terror was long and arduous. Each step of the way the Traitor Legions were hounded and attacked at every corner by the Imperial Fists, Ultra Marines, Blood Angels and many of the remaining Loyalist Legions. Upon their return and safe haven within the Eye Of Terror, the Traitor Legions took stock of all that had unfolded since the Warmaster's death.
The Battle For Terra was lost, they had lost Horus Lupercal the one whom held all the Traitor Legions together, each of the legions experienced their own loss in one form or another from countless brothers lost. Even their own homeworlds laid low by exterminatus by order of the Imperium Of Man, yet unease and tension remained even within the endless madness that is the warp.
The Emperor's Children Legion had grown restless and ached for new sensation and stimuli to add to their own senses as recently it was revealed they had burned through their entire stock of slaves.
All from the worlds they captured to Terra itself, the other legions knew this would lead to something but at the moment they were unsure themselves what would happen.
Deeper within the warp a brotherhood of traitorus White Scars known as the Howling Wind Brotherhood led by Khan Khali sought out an individiual from the Emperor's Children their Chief Apothecary Fabius Bile.
He had sent a message for them to meet with him in secret. Khan Khali and his brothers ventured to the Emperor's Children base on Harmony, with Canticle City being their fortress. Venturning onward they met in secret as several altered chaos marines arrived they were Bile's "New Men" as he called them, yet Bile wasn't present as the Khan
looked around.
"Well it is finally nice to meet the Khan himself heh." A voice echoed.
"You were the one whom called this meeting Bile not I." Khali stated. "Now speak Apothecary or I and my brothers leave at once."
"I called the meeting yes but its what I can offer to fix our current situation." Bile said his tone betraying his excitment. "I require you and your brothers to undertake a mission for me if you may. It will be the most important task for us all to remain unified."
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"I have learned my brothers have.. well heh lost their slave reserves since their return to the Eye Of Terror." Bile stated.
"Why should I care?" He asked.
"You should because soon they will make war on the other legions. They're hunger for new sensation and stimuli has become to..addicting to give up heh." He stated. "But their is a way to stem it with your help of course."
Khali's neck cracked as he became more annoyed with Bile but he kept listening. "And what exactly do you have in mind Bile. I hope it isn't another one of your insane tests for more New Men."
"No, no, no of course not heh." Bile's expression became more twisted as he smiled in an unnerving manner. "We are going to bring the Warmaster back."
Khali grabbed ahold of Bile as he brought the Apothecary to his face. The Apothecary knew this would be the answer to saying such a thing but he was counting on it as his smile grew wider.
"What do you mean?" Khali asked. "What game do you dare play Bile, no lies or I'll remove your head from your shoulders!"
"Oh?" Biles smile grew to its widest as he laughed. "Heh, haha you haven't changed at all but this is excellent. As I shall say their is no game here, I intend to bring back the unity that Horus brought. Without his leadership our legions will never have true unity again."
"Horus is gone we cannot restore him. The Emperor ensured it would not be possible." Kali lamented at how he learned Horus's soul was entirely oblitered.
"Maybe so." Bile stated as he fixed his flayed skin coat. "Yet that doesn't mean we cannot bring him back through other means." Bile hinted.
"Cloning.." Khali's tone evident with that hint of disgust.
"Exactly!" Bile exclaimed. "I've learned in my research even if we can't restore Horus from the destruction the Emperor had dealt to him. We can do the next best thing heh, its perfect hah."
Kali was stuck between one of two options presented. The first being to entertain this mad notion on Bile's part or two rip the mad Apothecary limb from limb till only his chatty head remained. Yet the thought of returning Horus to life seemed to good to pass up on a whim and if Bile was right and able to return Horus even as a clone it could be possible.
"I..shall entertain your offer Bile." Khali stated. "But on one condition." He pointed out as he grabbed Bile.
"Heh, and that would be my friend?" Bile said with a smile.
"We shall be the ones whom retrieve Horus. I won't allow any mistakes to be tolerated in this mission is that clear?" Khali was blunt on that end as he dropped him.
"Yes, yes, yes you over zealous speed addict heh." Bile noted as he turned to his New Men and departed to prepare for this mission.
Khan Khali and his men departed from Canticle City and returned to the rest of their brotherhood and once their Khali informed his brothers of the plan. Many were in agreement on the matter to bring Horus back and rallied to their Khan as they prepared for this crusade to restore the warmaster.
Bile was correct in not just the matter of wanting to restore the warmaster but of the unending hunger and need of sensation as the Emperor's Children Legion attacked not just the Sons Of Horus, but the World Eaters aswell taking countless slave stock from the other legions.
On the world of Maleum, home and fortress of the Sons Of Horus a brutal battle was already underway between them and the Emperor's Children. Battle lines were drawn both sides fought hard, the Emperor's Children pushed hard to get to their own target while above Khan Khali and his men observed the battle.
"Bile was right." Khali stated. "We haven't much time lets move brothers for the warmaster!" Kali roared as they revved their attack bikes and rushed off.
"FOR THE WARMASTER!" His brothers chanted.
On the trench line the Sons Of Horus held strong defending their fortress as the Emperor's Children pushed in using not just their astartes but many other weapons of war including dreadnaughts and noise-marines armed to the teeth with sonic blasters.
Many fell but the Sons Of Horus astartes held strong on the frontline blasting and tearing through the Emperor's Children, yet as they did the reving of engines could be heard as they looked onward.
Khali and his men rushed forth cutting through the Sons Of Horus defense lines quickly blasting apart their cousins with ease while Khali himself used his power lance to impale and slice the heads of his cousins as he drove through the lines.
Kali revved his engine harder as they rushed for their target, alongside his brothers they cut a path through the opposition leaving many of the Sons Of Horus dead in their wake.
Within the inner chambers of the Sons Of Horus fortress, many of the dead warmasters sons laid dead as Khali and his brothers arrived at the tomb of the fallen primarch. Khali and his brothers looked on at Horus's body for the briefest of moments their was silence and in that silence was replaced by heavy footsteps as Bile's New Men arrived. Alongside them Bile himself appeared as he nodded to his men to take the warmasters corpse away at once.
"Excellent work!" Bile exclaimed. "Soon we will have Horus returned to us and we will unify the legions."
"Yes indeed." Khali stated. "Ensure you do not fail Bile."
"I never fail heh." Bile said with a smirk. "I always succeed in my tasks of perfection."
With that Bile and his New Men departed taking Horus's body alongside many of the slave stock and reducing the Sons Of Horus fortress to ruin. Kali and his men aswell departed to ensure no one besides Bile knew their hand in removing Horus's body from the fortress.
Fire, explosions, the smell of blood thick in the air. Bodies of traitors laid bare both of the Sons Of Horus and Emperor's Children along with many others among the dead a blur of images appeared some of Bile, members of the Howling Wind Brotherhood alongside Khan Khali.
They defended the body of the warmaster as members of the Sons Of Horus entered alongside the First Captain Ezekyle Abbadon whom had returned to bring his fathers body home.
"You dare defile our primarchs body you filthy savage!" Abaddon roared. "I shall have your head and that of that fool Fabius Bile!"
A clash of blades occured between the First Captain and the Khan, as the two individuals eyes stayed fixed on the other.
"You call me savage!" Kali yelled. "You have never been worthy Abaddon. Horus will be restored and he will lead us to glory and battle once more."
"You defile the warmasters corpse and for that I shall slay you ARGHH!"
The clash was short and bloody as in the flurry of images Abaddon stood before the clone of his Primarch and father Horus. The images blurred once again as the two battled but it was short-lived as Abaddon struck the killing blow upon the clone of his father and in that moment the clone spoke.
"M-My son." Horus spoke. "I remember you." The clone uttered as he fell at Abaddon's feet.
Abaddon looked on to his brothers as he raised his fist ordering for the executions of those whom stole Horus's body. Yet in the confusion all had already fled alongside Bile and his own men as the fortress of Canticle City was brought to ruin and destroyed.
In its place Abaddon stood in the ruins with Horus's Talon and yelled in anger as he made his vow known to restore the Sons Of Horus into a new power. The vision itself blurred and fogged. Yet several voices spoke through the darkness.
"Blood flows! More will follow skulls for my throne! Skulls for your blood god!" The low yet rough voice demanded.
"Ohhh yesss, such sensations!" Another spoke as it grew more aroused. "Such pleasure, such thoughts and passions held in chains aching to break free!"
"Fate has weaved a new line hmm. Maybe? No? Hmm yes!" The Voice Spoke. "Decide they will amongst themselves heh. A warmaster against warmaster!"
"Bring new disease." A sickly voice echoed. "Such brews to test and succulent itching's they will grow for my grandchildren! A new grand child to have brings a smile to my bloated cheeks yesss."
As the voices echoed in the darkness they all spoke in unision to an unknown listener to their conversation as they spoke in unision. "Let it be heard! For you shall hear our whispers child once those arrive to bring their words bearing to you!"
"Agh!" A young mans eyes opened as he rubbed his eyes in confusion looking to his surroundings.
"Orius what's wrong?" A young woman came to the young mans aid as she saw him covered head to toe in sweat as if he worked himself to death.
"Kera.." Orius's face was beating with sweat and his skin was cold as ice. "It..it was just another nightmare."
"Their getting worse aren't they?" She kept her gaze on him as she stayed by his side.
"You need to get back to your rest Kera before we are forced up again." Orius stated as he let go of her hand.
"I'll be fine Orius." She smiled as she wiped the sweat from his cheeks. "Remember we look out for each other right?" she asked.
"Yea." He said pushing a smile up on his face. "We look out for each other."
"HEY!" a voice echoed. "Time to get moving slaves!" the figure stated as his whip crackled with energy as it glowed in the shadows.
Kera looked to Orius as she helped him up. "Well we shouldn't keep our..masters waiting right." Her tone betrayed her sarcasm.
"Stay beside me." Orius stated as he held her hand. "Let's get moving."
Orius and Kera stayed close to the other as they were marched toward the mines to work their "masters" kept an eye on them all as their whips crackled and begun whipping away at other slaves. Orius was stuck digging and breaking apart rocks while Kera was not so far away as she placed rocks into the melters.
Orius kept his eyes on Kera at all times while he worked but ensured his masters didn't catch him looking like he wasn't working as he continued. He said nothing as he continued to shovel away at the rock, his joints were aching and muscles pained him as he continued on.
Several of their masters came forth toward Orius as he kept working, a few of them gathered around and smirked and eyed each other.
"Yes masters." Orius kept his gaze low as he spoke. "Have I done something wrong?"
"No heh." One of them noted as his eyes kept fixed on Orius. "Not yet anyways."
An electric whip activated as it wrapped around Orius's neck bringing him to his knees as one his masters pulled his helm off. Showing the fur-faced Zygerrian smirk as he grabbed Orius by his chin.
"Yet when we are done with you, I promise you will be sorry slave heh." He stated as he kicked him back.
The other Zygerrian's joined as they beat and kicked him while he was down, in the confusion Orius could hear Kera yell and beg for them to stop as she pushed them back from him only for herself to be whipped and knocked to her knees. As they both were beaten and whipped Orius held onto Kera's hand as he fell unconcious from the beating he was receiving.
Within the deepest reaches of the warp members of the Emperor's Children loyal to Fabius Bile, the Howling Wind Brotherhood, Sons Of Horus and members of the other Traitor Legions gathered in a place far from Abaddon's reach. All of whom who did not see Abaddon as the leader they needed.
"We've gathered here to speak on what has happened." A member of the Word Bearers spoke up. "The loss of our warmaster. The chance to bring down the false emperor. And now the chance to bring back our warmaster Horus has been taken again by the false proclaimed Warmaster Abaddon!"
"We've lost our chance at glory!" A member of the Iron Warriors shouted.
"SILENCE!" Khali stated. "Yes we have lost our chance to restore Horus." Khali Lamented as his brothers, and counsins listened. "Yet we remain and here we stand unified still in one belief that we need a warmaster."
"But who is worthy of it!" An Emperor's Children bellowed.
"None of us that is clear." A member of the Alpha Legion proclaimed.
"Silence!" The Word Bearer spoke. "The Gods have decided upon an action of import to us cousins."
"What do you mean?" A member of the Alpha Legion spoke up
"The gods have spoke." The Word Bearer said. "Members of the Word Bearers shall go ahead of those whom all remain here whom seek a true warmaster to lead us." He continued. "The Word Bearers will lead the search! Once we find our true warmaster we will have what we have longed sought cousins!"
"Skulls For The Skull Throne!" A World Eater yelled.
Many of the traitor legions roared in agreement as they all stood as the Word Bearers made their departure. Yet Khan Khali stood silent alongside his brothers as they watched the Word Bearers leave aboard their battleship Lorgar's Spite. The warp rift itself tore open as it consumed nine Word Bearer ships consisting of Lorgar's Spite, three cruisers, and five escort vessels.
