Chapter 1: New Beginnings
Even after ten years, Toshinori Midoriya still had nightmares. They were always about the incident, the time he was kidnapped. It was years after the League of Villains had been disbanded when most of the villains had been defeated, but some of them were still bitter about what had happened. Dabi and Toga being the key perpetrators. They were so infuriated by the destruction of the league that they kidnapped Toshi and took him as a hostage, hoping to leverage Toshi's parents, Pro Heroes Deku and Nejire-chan into retiring, but an offensive by a group of heroes rescued Toshi.
"Agh!" Toshi shot up in his bed, his heart pounding in his ears, his face hot as he tried to calm down, but the panic lingered, "Not again."
Rubbing the sleep out of his eyes Toshi looked at the time, it was well past midnight, and he didn't want to bother any of his friends. They all would be asleep by now, and he didn't fancy bothering them.
Pulling himself out of his bed Toshi made his way towards the bathroom, he was prepared for situations like this, a quick shower helped clear his head and let him reflect on himself. The nightmares were almost worse than experience itself, even though it was traumatic and terrifying, his undeveloped mind made it much more terrifying and that leaked into his nightmares.
Staring at himself in the mirror Toshi's eye went to the burn scar on his chest. The ugly warped flesh crossed from just above his left collarbone into this center of his chest, it was the extent of the injuries he sustained from his event, but it was a nasty reminder of the trauma. Rubbing the scarred flesh Toshi reflected on the event.
Dark images and horrific memories flooded his mind, but he shook them away, he wouldn't let them define him. After the kidnapping Toshi's mom was his greatest comfort, her endless positivity pulled him out of a deep pit that many others would have drowned in. His father blamed himself for the event, All Might had warned him that having a family would be dangerous, and his teacher was right, his only son had been put in danger.
Trying harder than he had before Deku threw himself into his work, taking longer and longer shifts. His resolved incidents numbers went through the roof, surpassing records set decades before by heroes such as Endeavor. All of this in an endeavor to make the world a safer place for his son to grow up, and he did. Crime went to historic lows, even lower than when All Might was the Symbol of Peace, the numbers of people that survived natural disasters went up almost due to Deku single handedly.
Despite his best efforts for the safety of his son, he did something that would change his son's life forever. His time at home became less and less frequent, staying longer at the office, depriving his son of a loving relationship with his father. Toshi began to dislike his father, and for good reason, he was never around. It never turned into all out hate, but his father never developed the type of relationship they needed, distancing them.
Sneaking out of the house Toshi took a walk, the night air was chilly, but the Uravity themed hoodie he wore protected him from most of the nip. The sky was clear of all smog and, most lights were off so the stars shone brightly, the perfection of it all put him to peace. Toshi smirked slightly as he strode to the beach, the same beach he had heard stories of his father training on. Despite the beach being associated with his father, Toshi liked it, it was where he and his friends would go on their off days, it was a beautiful place.
On the beach Toshi sat, kicking off his shoes and running his feet into the cool sand. Taking a deep breath he relished in the beauty of it all. Coming here was one thing Toshi always enjoyed, the peaceful relaxing feeling it exuded always put him at peace, and more importantly it let him think. Laying back in the sand Toshi closed his eyes and began to think, thinking about life, school, and his friends.
All were important things to him, and all were hopefully going to try for the UA hero course with him. He knew they were all good enough to get into school, and they always stuck together, but he was worried that one of them wasn't going to make it, more specifically himself. He had been told that his quirk was just a weaker version of his fathers, something that you'd never want to hear. Clearing his mind Toshi got up and made his way back home, sleeping soundly without a care in the world.
"Oi Toshi, you don't look so good," Takara Togata pointed out as she leaned closer to him, the girl was almost he spitting image of her father, something a girl never wanted to hear, "You've got, like, lots of bags under your eyes."
"Yeah I know," Toshi grumbled, his face resting on his desk, his late night escapade depriving him of some much needed sleep,"I was up late."
"Seriously Toshi, you've got to take better care of yourself," Himari Amajiki shook her head in disappointment, her soft pink hair swaying as she did so, "Staying up into all hours of the night is not good for yourself."
"I know, I know," Toshi groaned rubbing his face into his hands, slight bags underneath his blue eyes, "You guys know how things are."
"Geeze you're just a ray of sunshine this morning aren't you," Takara joked, stifling a laugh, she ran her hand through his head of cotton candy blue hair, "Toshi I don't get it, I condition twice and my hair isn't half as soft as yours."
"Good genetics I guess," Toshi moaned before rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. The trio were often often referred to as The Little Three, and had spent basically their whole lives together. They had always been in the same class since primary school, all the until when they started at Sentai Private Middle School, with Toshi being the odd one out in his own class. The school day had gone and passed, Toshi staying awake enough to take notes and do the required work.
"Are you guys ready to go or not?" He asked as he picked up his bag, preparing to leave.
"Toshi you need to be a bit nicer about it," Himari scolded again, a soft smile crossing her face, "Do you guys want to get some Ujikintoki (Japense Shaved Ice)?"
"Yes!" Toshi agreed excitedly, with almost as much enthusiasm as you would expect from Takara, "You guys really know how to pick me up don't you?"
"Yeah, we do," Himari replied, taking the lead. The trio found themselves at the Ujikintoki shop, and without a moment's hesitation Toshi had ordered his favorite, a large with every flavor they had and a heaping of condensed milk on top.
"That can't be healthy," Takara gulped as she watched Toshi wolf down the sugary monstrosity, "I mean I love sugar as much as the next guy, but that's disgusting."
"I have to agree with you on that Takara-chan," Himari considered, her face twisted in disgust, the sugary mess their friend was eating having turned a disgusting brown color.
"Sooo," Takara dragged out, her deep blue eyes darting back and forth between her two friends, "The end of the school term is soon, and the UA entrance exam is not too far past that, are you guys ready for it?"
"Most definitely," Himari agreed enthusiastically, it was no surprise that she was excited for it, they all were, but Himari had a unique desire to be a hero.
"Yeah I guess," Toshi mumbled out between bites of his Ujikintoki, his mint eyes that had shortly before shone somewhat dulled now, "Honestly I don't know if I should take my dad's recommendation."
"What?" Takara gaped, they had all decided that they would let Toshi be the one to take the recommendation, they didn't want all of them to go into the recommendation exam and only have a part of the group get in, "Why not? You're more than qualified Toshi!"
"That's not the problem Takara," Toshi sighed, setting the cup on the table having finished his shaved ice.
"Then what is it Toshi?" Himari demanded, her cheerful personality getting replaced by her hardworking persona.
"It just feels like I'm riding my dad's coattails," Toshi pointed out, his eyes going towards the ground, one of his hands subconsciously coming up to rub his scar, "I don't want to get into UA just because I'm my dad's son, I want to get in because of my dad's reputation, I want to get in from my own hard work."
"Oh Toshi!" Takara exclaimed, tears welling up in the corners of her eyes, she lunged forward and wrapped her arms around the blue haired boy, "That's so honorable, what'd I do to deserve a friend like you?!"
"Yes, that is honorable," Himari agreed, leaning in and hugging Toshi as well.
"You guys are great friends," Toshi smiled, the boy that had faced much trauma in his life had been surrounded by those that cared about him. He had friends.
It had been nearly twenty five years since Kendo Rappa had been arrested, the defeat at the hands of the student and hero combo of Red Riot and Fat Gum had been humiliating, but in the end it gave Rappa the satisfaction he had been long desiring. He finally had a fight with people that weren't afraid to use their fists to speak. Despite being satisfied, Rappa never desired to stay in prison for long, and not too long after his first arrest, he had escaped, on the lookout for new challengers.
This came to fruition when he finally found a worthy challenger, another escaped felon by the name of Muscular. It had all started in the underground fight club Rappa had joined, he had quickly become the new champion of it, his quirk making him one of the best fighters in the whole criminal underground. Then a new upstart, someone that had literally slaughtered the rest of the competition up until that point. Then they fought, and it was a glorious fight, blood and fists, broken bones and broken bodies, and it left Rappa defeated, but not discouraged. Over the course of the next few years a rivalry was born, every year, the same time of year they would get together and fight, Rappa would win some, and Muscular others. As the years waged on it became apparent that they would never find out who was the better of the two.
This led to today, the final fight between the two, with an equal number of wins each; they had mutually decided that the winner of this next fight would be the better of the two.
"Rappa, there will be blood tonight!" Muscular shouted as he barged into the octagon, the crowd screaming around him. His grizzled face covered in scars from the countless fights he had over his lifetime, the worst from his encounter with Water Hose. Rappa left him with many scars himself.
"You're right Muscular," Rappa shouted back as he rolled his shoulders out before the fight, his body also covered in scars from his years of constant fighting, "But it won't be mine!"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah," Muscular mocked as he removed his prosthetic eye, replacing it with his serious one, "Let's just get this over with."
The cage closed, locking the two in the octagon together. Muscular advanced first, thick sinuous fibers wrapping his body. Rappa instantly got into a fighting position and reeled his fist back, throwing out several super fast blows, the attacks being absorbed by the muscle fibers wrapping Musculars arm. The two traded blows back and forth, wearing each other down, leaving both tired and beleaguered.
"Excellent job boys," A voice echoed from the rafters silencing the crowd, both looked up, seeing a man in a billowing trench coat standing above the cage, his face hidden in a hood, only his eyes and toothy grin visible, "But I'm afraid you'll have to let me finish the job."
"Who're you thinking you can tell us what to do?" Rappa screamed, slavia flinging out of his mouth, "You're hiding in the shadows like a coward!"
"Coward?" The man seemed offended before cackling hysterically, "I prefer the word intelligent, obviously I'd stay up here while you nitwits pummel each other."
"Then come down here and prove yourself!" Muscular responded, thick muscles wrapping around his legs, "Or I'll come to you."
"Ooh, I'm quaking in my boots," The man feigned fear, before shaking his head, "Very well then." He dropped, his hands in his pockets, landing on the ground in the center of the octagon with a thud, he turned to Muscular who had thrown a punch, without a moment's hesitation the man turned to the side, letting the punch fly past him and strike Rappa. Turning towards Musculars now exposed back, the man grabbed him by the back of his shirt. Pivoting and planting his leg the man threw the villain over his shoulder.
"Nothing personal, but you're worth more to me dead," The man said grabbing Musculars face, red circuitry seemed to spread out from his hand and cover Musculars body, before finally his flesh bulged and bubbled until it exploded in a fine red mist.
"No way," Rappa exclaimed, his eyes wide in shock, "That quirk, you're just like him, you're just like Overhole!"
"Not exactly," The man giggled, before seemingly teleporting in front of Rappa, placing his hand on the villains chest, the same red circuitry spread out as his body exploded as well.
"Well what's done is done," The man said, looking towards the crowd of surprised on lookers, a sharp pain rocked his head and he held his face, grimacing, "But it looks like I'll have to take my leave."
The police could only describe the crime scene as a blood bath. No one was found alive, any chance of identifying who had been there or who they were was completely forgotten. The only evidence was an ominous message written in blood, "The Rapture Begins."
