It was a little rainy day within the town of Walkerville. The clouds were a dark gray as well with the rain pouring down from the sky. Dorothy Ann was walking on the sidewalk by herself. She was carrying an umbrella that was keeping her dry on her way to Walkerville elementary school. Dorothy Ann was also wearing a purple rain coat to help keep her clothing from getting wet. She knew that her class would begin at 2 hours ahead, so she still had some time on her hands.

Dorothy was walking through the town before she came to a stop when she saw her favorite bookstore. It was her favorite because she used the books she bought there, for she was a bookworm in her class. Well, her friends mostly called her a book worm within Mrs. Frizzle's class. She wondered what new books are for sale. She turned to look at the sign that hung from the door's window and saw that the store was opened for the day. She smiled before looking down at her watch to check the time. Dorothy saw that she had about 1 hour left before class started

"I'll just take a quick peak inside to see what they have," said Dorothy Ann.

With that decided, she opened the door to the bookstore and walked inside. The bell above the door rang to announce Dorothy's presence as she stepped inside out of the rain. She paused in front of the door to close her umbrella and shake off the water that had collected on it. The cashier at the desked looked up from what they were doing and smiled. The cashier was a thirty two year old man with short black hair, fair skin and dark brown eyes that were hidden behind half moon glasses. He wore a dark blue sweatshirt, brown trousers and black tie on shoes.

The cashier's name was Jonathan Clark, and he had been the owner of the book store for at least ten years. He was a man who loved books, and is always very helpful to those who are looking for a book. Dorothy Ann was one of his favorite customers for he had never met anyone who loves books as much as him.

"Ah...Dorothy Ann, welcome," greeted Mr. Clark with a smile upon his face. "You come to pick up a new book before school starts."

"Yes," answered Dorothy Ann with a nod.

"Well, feel free to look around," said Mr. Clark. "Just make sure you don't lose track of time."

"I'll make sure that I won't," said Dorothy Ann.

With that, she began to walk around the book store. She glanced around at some of the books that sat upon the shelves, while gazing at some of titles that was written upon their spines. After a minute of looking, Dorothy Ann came upon a book that quickly caught her eye. It didn't have a title upon its spine, so she pulled out between the two books in was sitting between. Once it was in her hands, Dorothy Ann was surprised to see a picture of dinosaurs upon its front cover. She then frowned when she didn't find any title upon the book's front cover.

'That's strange,' thought Dorothy Ann as stared down at the book in her hands. 'All books usually have a title written upon the surface of their covers or spines. Still, this could be useful for today's lesson. After all, we are studying about prehistoric life in class today.'

With that, Dorothy Ann decided to buy the book. She walked up to the front desk and presented it to Mr. Clark.

"Excuse me, Mr. Clark," said Dorothy as she placed the book on the front desk. "How much for this book? It might be useful for my research in class today."

Mr. Clark looked down at the book that Dorothy Ann had found and frowned.

"Hmm...To be honest with you I don't really know," replied Mr. Clark with a befuddled expression upon his face. "I haven't seen a book like this one before. I guess it must be one of the new ones that must have slipped passed my notice. Oh well, sometimes things like this happen. Anyways, it'll be 3 dollars please."

Dorothy Ann opened the front pocket on her backpack and pulled out her wallet. She counted the amount she needed to pay for her book before handing it over to Mr. Clark.

"Here you go, Mr. Clark," said Dorothy Ann as she handed the money over the the owner of the bookstore.

"Thank you very much, Dorothy." Mr. Clark kindly said as he took the money. "Now you'd better get a move on or you'll be late for school."

Dorothy Ann nodded her head before placing the book inside her backpack. She then headed to the front door of the bookstore before stopping to open up her umbrella. Once it was open, She walked outside as she once again began to walk through the rain. Dorothy Ann looked at her watch again to check the time. She smiled when she saw that she still had enough time to make it to class.

It wasn't long before she finally made it to school. She walked towards the front doors before glancing over to her right. Parked near the school was a yellow bus with a big, blue umbrella sitting on its roof. To others, it might have looked odd to see a bus with an umbrella perched upon its roof, but for Dorothy Ann it was just the usual sight for her.

"Hello bus," greeted Dorothy Ann with a smile. "Keeping dry?"

The bus honked its horn once in reply to Dorothy's question in its way of saying 'yes'. For those who do not know it, the bus was no ordinary vehicle. It was actually a magical bus that was owned and driven by the classes teacher, Ms. Frizzle. Dorothy continued to walk towards the front doors of the school. She then pushed open the doors before pausing within the open door. Dorothy Ann closed her umbrella once and shook the rain drops off of it. Once that was done, she entered the school. Dorothy walked down the hallway before pausing at her locker to put away her jacket and umbrella. After that, she continued on to her classroom.

She got to door of her class room and stepped inside. Inside the room were all of her classmates, who had all seated themselves at their desks.

"Good morning everyone!" greeted Dorothy Ann with a smile.

Everyone echoed their greeting back. Dorothy Ann saw that Arnold, Wanda and all of her other classmates already had their materials out for the day ahead of them. She then turned to look up at the clock within the class room. She saw that it would be 40 minutes before Ms. Frizzle came to start the class.

"Well, I guess I'll get my book out and read it before she comes," said Dorothy Ann with a shrug.

With that, she sat down at her desk and pulled her new book out from her backpack.
