Pamela
Pamela woke in a cold sweat. It was still early morning and the bedroom was still pitch dark. Something was wrong, she felt it. She didn't know where the feeling had come from but she knew to trust it. It was similar to the feeling she got from her plants when a storm was about to roll in. There was a knot in her stomach. She felt something had happened and her mind started reeling with possibilities. The first thing that came to mind were her plants but she could feel them now and they felt fine. It had to be something or someone else. Last time she had a feeling like this Selina had stumbled in hurt and cut up from a heist gone bad.
She grabbed her phone from the nightstand out of habit and apprehension. There weren't any messages. She saw it was about three in the morning. She was about to put the phone back down when it vibrated and she yelped in surprise. She looked down at the ID. It was Selina. Her stomach knotted up with worry. What happened this time she wondered. Selina rarely made a phone call especially one to her this late at night. Ivy shook her head thinking that curiosity really was going to kill the cat if she didn't start being more careful.
Ivy took a deep breath and answered the phone, "Selina? What's happened?! Are you okay?!" Pamela held the phone in a death grip.
"Ivy, I'm fine. Joker. It's Harley! I tried to get her to agree to a hospital but she's refusing. She's asking for you Pam and I can't get her to listen. Selina said with a quiver in voice and looking down a the half conscious blond in her lap. It's bad this time Ive! She's in bad shape. She's lost a lot of blood and I can't get her to stay awake!" Selina said once again trying to rouse the blond to stay conscious.
"Red?! Where's Red? Where's Pammy!? I want Red!," Harley managed to say. Selina soothed her with a hand on her cheek. Selina wanted to kill Joker for this herself and she knew that she didn't love Harley like Pam did. Selina knew that Pam loved Harley even more than her plants. She knew she wouldn't want to be Joker right now. She just hoped Ivy didn't end up back in Arkham again. Selina wondered how much of a good idea it was for Pam to see Harley like this.
Pamela heard the crack in Selina's voice and heard her soothe the blond over the phone. She didn't hear Harley cry for her and Selina figured that for now, maybe that was best. Pam needed to be clear headed for this and getting past Pam's fury was going to be hard enough. Pam knew that Selina was not the emotional type and Pamela shot up out of bed and ran to her lab. If Selina was worried and trying to soothe Harley she didn't want to imagine what shape she was in. It was too much to think about and she had to be doing something with herself or she would break down.
"Bring her here. I'll get some things ready."Pam said, as tears already threatened to fall. She held them back but a sob came from her anyway to spite the effort. Harley was asking for her. Harley had never asked for her before. She knew Ivy would never turn her away even though she had told Harley she was done with healing her up just for her to go back and be a punching bag again. Ivy knew she would crawl across broken glass if I meant Harley would be safe and even though it tore for soul into pieces seeing Harley hurt she could never turn her away.
Why did Harley keep trying to fix that monster?! How did she see anything good in him? Ivy knew the answer to that of course. Harley could find something worth saving in anything. Only Harley would adopt hyenas as pets. Ivy rolled her eyes at the thought of Bud and Lou. "Jesus, Harley, why do you have to try to save everything!?" Ivy fumed and tears ran hot down her cheek. A fury of emotions threatening to distract her. Mostly from fear but also from homicidal ideations. Joker was going to die for this one. She warned him that if laid another finger on Harley, she was going to end him. She was sure she made that clear or at least she thought so. Their last conversation had been rather intense to say the least. She knew more thorns would have been helpful in that negotiation. Apparently she was going to have to make good on her threats. That was a problem for the future though and she put it aside.
Pamela went about mixing some tonic for Harley. She had been healing her every time that monster left her with another cut or bruise. She spend many nights cleaning up wounds on Harley. I made her heart hurt thinking about what states Harley had come to her in the past. If this was worse….she didn't want to think about the shape Harley was in now. Wait ago, Pamela, not only falling for a straight girl, but for one that was going to get herself killed. She chastised herself for still being so……human. How many more times would she have to be a witness to Harley's pain or worse would this finally be what she had always feared?
Pamela didn't always have the best relationship with Gaia but she did something she'd not done in years. Pamela fell to her knees and begged Gaia to save Harley. Hands and knees on the floor of her greenhouse, Pam begged for Harley to be okay. She offered anything she had to give for the bubbly blond she had fallen so hard for. Pride be damned, she would not watch Harley die.
Ivy's plants prayed along with her. She heard them add their voices to her own. She felt the curl against her as if to protect her from her own pain. The irony of the situation was not lost on Ivy. She was on knees for a silly girl who didn't know what was good for her and asking the universe to save her. No one got Ivy on her knees and no one got her to beg but in that moment she didn't care. She would have offered anything. If the devil had been in the room she was would have offered her service if he saved Harley.
Selina
Selina hadn't planned on her night going like this. She was just out scoping out a score when she had gotten a text from Harley.
"Kitty, he found it! I don't know how much he read but he found it. I should have never thought I could keep it where he could find it. Kitty, he's angry. I got to leave. Can you get me to Pammy?" Selina read the text and her blood turned cold. She immediately told Harley she was on her way and to get her things together. She was scared that she wouldn't be able to get to Harley fast enough.
Selina saw the text bubble come up again but there was no message that followed. This only served to scare Selina more. Selina wasn't sure what Joker had read in Harley's journal to make him so angry but she had a guess. Harley had confided in her that there was someone else. Harley wouldn't tell her who.
Ivy was going to be crushed when she found out about Harley in love with someone else but maybe could take it in stride knowing that Joker would no longer be in the picture.
This was not going to be pretty. Joker did not wear jealously well and as sick as it made Selina to think about it, he considered Harley his property even if he didn't really care for her. She was his from the way that he saw it. If she wasn't his then no one would have her. Harley had been talking to Selina about finding her own place and leaving Joker for good. Selina had been trying to help her. Now Selina feared that Harley's new place could be a cemetery.
Selina took off toward Joker's hide out. She only hoped she wouldn't be too late. She had to get Pam up. She knew she need her and Harley never did listen well to Selina for one but Pam had a way with Harley. Selina didn't have to ask Ivy how she felt about Harley. Selina saw it with every cut she healed or wound she treated. Selina saw Pamela wince more in pain when fixing up Harley in the past than Harley did. Selina saw Pamela up late at night pacing the floor as Harley slept in her bed. She would change the dressings on her wounds and was so careful as not to wake a sleeping Harley.
No, Pamela didn't need to say a word. She always kept coco in the house and Pamela liked tea. Harley liked coco. Pamela wasn't as hard to read as she thought she was and she wasn't as detached from humanity as she longed to be. Selina had known her for a long time. Selina knew better than to say too much to Ivy about it but she knew all the same. It hurt Selina to know that Harley didn't feel the same for Pam but none of that mattered to Ivy. Harley Quinn was Ivy's world.
Pamela was prickly toward most people and maybe a little bitter. She was guarded and kept her emotions under the surface. Selina knew that was for protection. Pam hated most people but that was fair but had a good heart even if she hid it. She was sarcastic and sardonic but Harley had a way of getting past all that. Selina never saw her be that way toward Harley. Harley was the only one Selina had seen get a true smile from Ivy. Selina knew that Ivy would never admit it to her but she was over the moon for Harley. She didn't know how Harley could miss seeing that Pam loved her. But Harley was Harley and a little one track minded sometimes.
Harley
"Mr. J you know you're the only one for me!," Harley tried to do damage control. She backed up away from Joker as he stood with a pink and blue book in his hand. She could no longer see the whites of his eyes. They were black. Harley searched the room for her bat. She didn't want to use it but she could feel the danger in air around her.
"Harley, my dear, dear Harley. You can't think I believe you. It's all written here. Your handwriting my sweet girl. Now the only question is what to do with you. Joker stalked around the room looking at the various things Harley had around her room. By then Harley had gotten her hands on her bat. Joker noticed. Oh no, Harley I don't think a bat is quiet the tool for the job this time." In one quick movement the bat was grabbed from Harley's tentative grasp and thrown across the room. It rolled and Good Night repeated in Harley's line of vision. She only had time to think about how fitting the phrase was as she was punched hard across the face. Her vision faded to black. The last thing on her mind is was Ivy. She'd never be able to see Ivy again.
