Doopliss watched as the rebirthed Shadow Queen fought Mario.
He was watching slick having no chance for once. The stupid plumber couldn't land a single hit!
The Shadow Queen cackled. In her true form, Mario and his partner's attacks wouldn't do any damage.
She even healed what little damage the nissance had done to her in battle.
"I will ask you again... Will you serve me? If so, I will forgive you for this..." The queen told Mario.
Goombella looked at Mario. "Uhm, what should we do?" She asked.
Mario looked back at her. "I don't know...Usually, something helps me. Like when I defeated Bowser."
The Shadow Queen cackled. "Muh huh huh huh huh! I am not like the being you are addressing, I am the Shadow Queen." She tilted her head over to the two of them. "I will repeat what I said, will you serve me?" The Queen asked once again.
Mario looked down at the ground. He was probably trying to think of something he could do. But there was nothing.
For once, Slick lost.
"Yes." Mario said quietly.
The Shadow Queen's eyes glowed red and her grin looked at Mario. "What was that, servant? Do you serve me?" She asked, knowing that the answer was most definitely a yes.
Goombella was shocked at what Mario had said. Throughout the journey, Mario was never one to simply give up.
"Mario? Do you realize what you are saying?!" Goombella yelled at her friend. "That is the demon that destroyed Rogueport years ago and," The female Goomba's voice got louder. "POSSESSED PEACH!"
She probably thought Mario had forgotten all of that somehow.
Doopliss smiled. For once in his life, he was on the winning team.
And what a powerful winning team it was. Of course, the world would forever be enveloped in darkness, but he didn't care.
Goombella hit Mario in the shoulder. "Do you realize what'll happen if we serve evil?!" Mario looked at her in defeat. "Your superstar Mario! You would never serve evil!"
"Quiet, Goomba!" Beldam yelled at Goombella.
Twilight Town was always dark and Doopliss was already regarded as a monster there.
For the world, this would be an improvement.
"Yes...My queen." Mario repeated.
The Shadow Queen cackled while Goombella looked shocked. All of Mario's partners were more shocked than they had ever been in their lives.
"Muh huh huh huh huh! Good...You are obedient and will serve me for eternity!" The Queen said, now knowing that she had the only mortal being with some way to stop her.
A strange mist enveloped Mario. It was there for a few seconds, and then it dissipated.
The result had Mario looking quite different. What you could see of his hair was a charcoal black instead of a chocolate brown. His overalls were now a very dark shade of purple and white.
Strangest of all was Slick's skin, it was now a similar color to what the Shadow Queen had, devoid of all life and hope.
"Now you are mine...Mortal." The Shadow Queen said.
Goombella looked at the changed Mario in horror. The partners started to flee out the entrance they came in.
"What did you do to Mario, you WITCH?!" Goombella asked in horror and anger.
The Shadow Queen cackled. "Muh huh huh huh huh! Do you like it? Personally, I think it's more appropriate when you're my servant...Don't you agree?" The Shadow Queen asked, almost taunting the helpless Goomba.
The Witch looked over at Beldam. "What do you think of it, Beldam?" She asked her Shadow Siren.
Beldam smiled evilly. "I couldn't agree more, my queen." The Shadow Siren responded.
Goombella looked over at Doopliss. "How can you be ok with this?!" She asked.
Finally, Doopliss could talk without being interrupted by Beldam. However, he had to choose a side now.
Should he side with The Shadow Queen and sirens?
Or betray her and surely die?
Yeah, Doopliss knew exactly what to choose.
"Why not? I think the world could use a change for once." The Duplighost responded.
" If you serve me as well...I won't harm you." The Shadow Queen said to Goombella.
Very quickly, the Goomba ran out of the room.
Now, it was just the two shadow sirens, the queen, Mario, and Doopliss.
The Shadow Queen looked over at them. "The sun will never shine again...I will rule forever." She said, victorious.
But then the Queen looked over at Doopliss. She had her eyes on him.
He felt scared a little, knowing what she could do.
"And...What sort of creature are you?" She put her hand under her chin, thinking. "You're not a Shadow Siren...I didn't create you." The Queen said.
Doopliss gulped, he was afraid to speak. On one hand, if he said the wrong thing Beldam would punish him...And he didn't want that.
But on the other hand...If he spoke wrongly then he could die at the hands of the Shadow Queen.
"That's Freak-Sheet, my queen." Beldam told the Shadow Queen.
The witch tilted her head to the side, her red eyes glowing. "Beldam, why is that thing with you? What happened to my other creation?" She asked.
"We had a following out with Vivian. That brat decided to follow Mario. Fortunately, Freak-Sheet over here proved to be an excellent replacement." Beldam explained to her queen.
The Shadow Queen's eyes looked back at him. "Ahhh...So I see...How interesting." She said slowly.
She pointed at Doopliss.
Great, this was either going to be bad, or really bad.
"Vivian's replacement...I want you to walk up to me." The Shadow Queen instructed.
Doopliss didn't know what else to do, he did what she instructed him to do. The Duplighost walked up to the Shadow Queen.
The witch cackled. "Muh huh huh huh huh...What is your name Vivian's replacement?" She asked in her normal demonic tone.
Doopliss was scared. "D-D-Doopliss!" He managed to say.
The Queen's smile turned more sinister. "I see...And will you serve me for eternity as the next shadow siren?" The Queen asked.
Doopliss quickly looked back at Beldam and then back at the Shadow Queen. He made his bed and he was going to sleep in it.
"Yes, I will...I'll serve you for as long as you wish." Doopliss answered.
"Good...You are very obedient. I think you'll make a fine replacement...And you will serve me forever." The Queen said.
"Thank you, my queen." Doopliss said.
The next thing he knew, the Queen said some weird words and a strange mist surrounded Doopliss.
His whole body felt calm and at peace while darkness seeped in.
When it was done, the mist dissipated.
The Queen cackled again. "Muh huh huh huh huh! I have recreated you...My first creation in a thousand years." The Shadow Queen said.
Doopliss looked at himself, there was no mirror in the Palace of Shadow and he could only see his arms...Or rather gloves and his skin was now a dark purple.
The former Duplighost looked up at his Queen. The one he'd serve forever.
"Congratulations Freak-Sheet, you're really a Shadow Siren now!" Beldam said in a nice tone.
"GUH!" Marilyn also said.
Doopliss wondered if he still had his abilities?
"Do not worry my siren...You still have your natural abilities. I just merely reformed your physical being to better suit my army." She told him.
"Thanks, my queen." He said.
Doopliss went over to join the other sirens and The Shadow Queen talked. "Now...That my loyal Shadow Sirens are here...I wish to restart what I had done to this world one thousand years ago." She looked at Mario. "I want you to begin looking for anyone above...Bring any opposers to me."
Mario nodded his head. "Yes, my queen." He said.
"Goood...Make sure they know my name. All will fear me!" The Shadow Queen told him.
The Plumber walked out of the room. The Shadow Queen looked at her three sirens.
"Beldam, you and the other sirens follow him...Make sure they remember, Beldam." The Queen told the leader.
"Yes, my Queen." Beldam looked over at Marilyn and Doopliss. "Come my sorta lovelies."
She disappeared into the shadows.
"GUH!" Marilyn said.
Unfortunately, once they all disappeared, Doopliss didn't know where to go.
"Uhm, guys? Where did you go?" He looked all around, trying to find some trace as to where they went. "I hate it when you do that!"
The Shadow Queen looked at him, her smile fading. She was probably going to kill him any second now.
Just then, Marilyn appeared in front of Doopliss and grabbed him. The former Duplighost was dragged into the shadows.
The next thing he knew, they were in a different room in The Palace of Shadow.
The floor was red, while the walls were dark.
Beldam pointed angrily at him. "Ok, first some rules! Rule one! Don't ever act or say anything stupid at our queen, or I'll give you a beating that you'll never forget!"
Doopliss nodded his head, never taking his eyes off Beldam. "Okay! Okay!"
"Rule two! Your name is still Freak-Sheet!" Beldam told Doopliss.
The former Duplighost held his head down in disappointment. "Why? You already know my name." He said.
"Just because you look and are one of us, doesn't change a thing! Got that, Freak-Sheet?!" Beldam explained to him.
"Yeah! Yeah!" Doopliss responded.
Beldam scratched her chin. "Third and final rule! You better learn fast how to go into the shadows! Cause I'm not teaching you!" She looked over at the other Shadow Siren. "And neither is Marilyn, isn't that right?"
"Guh!" Marilyn replied.
"You got that, Freak-Sheet?" Beldam asked.
Doopliss hung his head low in defeat. "Yeah, I understand, Beldam."
Beldam smiled. "Good, now we have an understanding. Anything, you would care to add, Marilyn?" She asked.
"Guh!" The other siren said.
Doopliss had no idea what his teammate was saying. He could never understand her.
"Yeah you're right, Freak-Sheet should do better at his job now!" She looked into the former Duplighost's eyes. "Got that also, Freak-Sheet?"
"Yes, Beldam. I do." Doopliss responded.
"Good! Now we have a job to do, my dears." Beldam said to the other sirens.
The leader disappeared into the Shadows, then Marilyn, and finally Doopliss himself.
