Prologue/Flash Forward

"My name is Rilinnea Lucinda Fairchild and I'm a Shadowhunter, a half-human half-Angelic being born to protect mankind from demons. That life can get dark at times, but someone once told me that light can always be found even in the darkest of places. In this never-ending battle against evil, I have people I can count on, my fellow Shadowhunters and our Downworlder allies.

The Lightwood siblings, Alec and Isabelle. The Garin brothers, Maksim and Kirill. The High Warlock of Brooklyn, Magnus Bane, and his sister Delilah, the High Warlock of France. Simon Lewis, a vampire with a few special talents, and Diana Daystrom, a half-Warlock Shadowhunter. My father figure, Luke, a werewolf and New York City detective. Hildegard Nightwolf, a young Shadowhunter and my surrogate sister. Ailiz Nightwolf, my Parabatai, best friend, my soul sister. Clary, my younger twin sister. And finally, Jace Herondale, the man who saved my life once upon a time, and one of the strongest Shadowhunters I've ever met.

Alone, we're strong. Together, we are unstoppable."

Ailiz held Riley's hand as they walked out of the Accords Hall, both dressed in formal attire. Ailiz wore a deep purple jumpsuit with black boots, her ebony hair pulled into a high ponytail, while Riley wore a long, flowing blush pink strapless dress with silver wedged heels, her firey red hair slightly curled and falling down her shoulders and back.

"Liz, where are you taking me?" Riley asked as her Parabatai led her out towards Angel Square. "I thought we were portaling back to New York for dessert?"

"We are, Riles." Ailiz replied, leading her to the fountain in the center of the square. "Magnus will be down in a minute to open a portal." She stood in front of the redhead, a wide grin on her face. Glancing over Riley's shoulder, Ailiz saw Jace walking their way, giving her a nod. "You know, why don't I go see what's keeping Magnus. I'll be right back, just stay here." The dark-haired Shadowhunter pecked her cheek and walked off.

"Good luck." Ailiz whispered to Jace as she passed him, joining their group of friends hiding behind the columns to get a view of what was about to happen.

"I never thought Jace could even get nervous." Kirill said with a smile, his arm around Hildy, who had an ear to ear grin.

"Well, he never believed in true love either." Isabelle reminded. "But ever since he met Riley." A smile spread across her ruby lips. "She's turned his world upside down."

"Hello beautiful." Jace said as he stood behind Riley, dressed in a dark suit.

Riley turned around and instantly a smile spread across her lips. "Hey." she replied, placing her hands on his upper arms. "What're you doing here? I thought you were helping Imogen with something tonight?"

Jace smiled his traditional charming smile and took Riley's hand in his. "Well, that was a little fib." he admitted. "I wanted to ask her for her blessing before meeting you out here."

Riley quirked her eyebrow, "Why would you need your grandmother's blessing?" she asked, slightly confused. "Jace, what's going on?"

To ease her nerves just a bit, Jace leaned down and captured his girlfriend's lips in a gentle kiss, caressing her jawline. He pulled away and touched his forehead to hers, looking deep into her sparkling emerald eyes. "You're the love of my life, Riley Fairchild." he told her, never breaking eye contact as he reached around his neck and took off the chain her wore, the Herondale family ring falling into his palm. "Every since I met you, I couldn't imagine life without you. You've been my light in the darkness."

Riley's eyes went wide as Jace knelt down on one knee, holding the silver ring inches from her left hand, "Rilinnea Lucinda Fairchild..."

"Happily ever afters do exist in the world, and I found mine. However, it took a lot for me to make it here. I endured so much loss and heartache that I thought would kill me. But, I found my inner warrior and fought for those I loved. It wasn't easy, but I persevered. This is my story...the story of a girl thrown into a world she only believed existed in her dreams. A world she saw but was told was never there, leading her to believe she was crazy. My name is Rilinnea Lucinda Fairchild, and this is the story of how I found myself as a Shadowhunter..."
