Zee didn't really remember her mother.
She was sure that she had known her mother when she was younger but she couldn't even remember her face or her voice.
Mother's day deepened the small tingle of hurt she felt every time she saw her friends and classmates with their mothers.
Her birthday was another matter entirely, especially since she remembered that.
Sometimes she felt that she didn't need a mother since she always had her dad with her and she had always told herself that it was more than enough.
She thought that maybe it would be better not to ask about her, her father just kept a photograph of her mother and refuse to even mention her name most of the time.
Sindella
Zee had tried not to be bothered by the fact that her father had decided to go on a "business trip", as he called them when he traveled for a show, and for other business…with Superman, Batman and other heroes.
She didn't know when their superhero club had started, she just knew that it had been formed around the time they moved from Central to Metropolis.
It wasn't like they were like that old super hero group from the forties, right?
Anyway
As of late she had been dreaming about her mother for a while but she couldn't bring herself to talk about them to her father. The strange thing was that the dreams were too vivid, as if her mother had been really there with her.
If she hadn't been sure that her mother was dead, she would have thought that Sindella was trying to reach for her.
But, she also remembered that her mother had left her on her birthday.
What kind of person did that?
At least she had her father and her friends and the guys, even Hal and Oliver were great friends when they wanted to be.
And know she had learned to appreciate her birthday, it was still her favorite day of the year, and the thought that people put on the gifts they gave to her. The picture that her friends gave to her was now on her drawer and while she was looking at it she smiled.
The girls were great friends and they truly cared for her.
(She also learnt not to turn her friend into birthday zombies and may also developed something against birthday songs)
Zee was surprised when she heard a knock on her door, when she opened it she was surprised to see her father as she thought him to be in a reunion with his hero friends.
"I thought you had some business to do" She said but she hugged him.
"Superman finished the meeting early, apparently he had forgotten to go to a dinner with his girlfriend's parents" Zatara smirked.
Zee hadn't known that Superman had a girlfriend, anyway there was no way that Kara would know since she never paid attention to those details.
"Hey, I baked cookies, would you like some?" He asked "You know since the cake I worked so hard to bake had to be…destroyed"
The purple haired girl just laughed a little and said "Yeah, I would like some"
They walked towards the kitchen and then she heard a "Surprise!"
She squinted her eyes and was left speechless when she saw all her friends, including the Invincibros, Steve Trevor and her cousin Zachary.
Her father put a hand on her shoulder while he said "I know that we are two days late for your birthday and after what happened…" he made a pause and completed "Your friends wanted to throw a party for you"
The magician was about to say something when her friends hugged her and Kara said "You may have gone overboard with your birthday and turned us into zombies…"
Diana nudged the kryptonian on the ribs and the blonde said "But everyone deserves a birthday"
"But we are not wearing birthday hats ever again" Jessica added "They are not good for the environment"
"We brought some chips and nachos" Babs said excitedly, they also knew that she brought some burritos and would not share.
"And I brought some muffins" Barry said holding up a cake.
"We came for the food" Hal said and when Jessica gave him a dirty look he added sheepishly "But hey, we also wanted to wish you a happy birthday"
"Even Oliver is here" Babs said while grabbing some cookies and looked pointedly at her magician friend.
The archer was standing by Carter side and just said "They made me come to this party" then added "Also we are friendly acquaintances, Zatara…and they said that I had to come here if I wanted a birthday party"
Zee just smiled at that and said "I may go to your birthday party if you don't ruin mine"
"Deal" Oliver said while he hid a little smile and then went to talk to Kara and Hal who were discussing about something.
Maybe a small birthday party would be good from now on and she was with all her friends.
But when they had to sing "Happy Birthday" she realized that she won't be liking to hear that song in a while.
She could live without that.
