Erin finished in the bathroom and walked into her room to change out of her school uniform. She walked out to see her mother cleaning up the kitchen, she caught a glimpse of the smile on her mother's face as she cleaned. Erin began to help with the clean-up at the table, "How was your dinner mom?" Erin asked as she picked up the plates. Brennan smiled, "It was fine. I should be asking you about your day. Did you have fun tonight?" she asked Erin as she began to clean and wash the dishes. Obviously deflecting the date, she had just had with Booth.
Erin was scrubbing and held up the plate she was washing with a smile on her face. "It was great! Michelle introduced me to her friends, and they all invited me to be a part of their group. I have friends! Besides all the stares I received, it was a great day. My classes are pretty good too. Did you enjoy your dinner?" she said while rinsing away the dishes. Brennan laughed and placed a few dishes in the sink while placing her hand on Erin's shoulder. "I'm happy you made friends. It was nice of Michelle to introduce you to her friends. Did you finish your homework?" she asked. Erin laughed, "Yes, I did. So, how was your dinner, mom?" Erin asked again.
Brennan knew Erin was going to continue to ask about the dinner, she rolled her eyes and continued to wipe the kitchen counters, "It was good. Booth and I have had many dinners before. He really likes my Mac and Cheese, and he even made a plate for you." she said.
Erin finished washing the last few pieces of silverware in the sink and dried her wands with a dish towel. "That was really nice of him. It seems like you had a great time," Erin said while placing the almost finished bottle of wine in the fridge. Brennan laughed along with Erin who walked towards the bar stool and sat down. Brennan also sat next to Erin and nudged her shoulder. Erin scrunched up her face and looked at her mom, "What? What is it? You, okay?" she asked. Brennan chuckled, "I'm fine. I'm just happy you're here. With me." she said. Erin smiled and felt her cheeks get warm, "I'm happy too. I'm going to get ready for bed. I love you, mom." she said while kissing Brennan's cheek and stepping off the stool. As Erin began to walk away, Brennan stopped Erin, by turning her around and giving her a hug. Erin laughed, "Sorry, I left too soon, huh?" she said and hugged her mom back. "Yes. Goodnight sweetheart. I love you. See you in the morning." Brennan said as she kissed Erin's forehead. Erin smiled and began to walk to her room, and she couldn't stop thinking about what she heard behind the front door.
The next morning the mother and daughter duo began to get ready for their day. Erin was preparing her bookbag in the kitchen while Brennan was reading the paper and drinking her coffee. Brennan looked at her watch, "Almost ready?" she asked Erin and Erin nodded, "Yes. Ready for anything." she said as she put on her bookbag. Brennan laughed and placed her mug in the sink and walked over to her things. They both got in the car and began their way to Erin's school. Erin began to hum along with the latest pop song emanating from the radio. Brennan smiled and continued to drive. "Did you have any boyfriends in high school?" Erin asked as she lowered the volume on the stereo. "No, I didn't want any distractions. Have you had a boyfriend?" Brennan returned the question. Erin looked at her lap, "No, I haven't. I'm not really interested in the 'dating' scene in high school. Statistically, they will not last." She said as she finally met her mother's gaze. Brennan had a slight smirk on her face and chuckled. Erin smiled, "What?" Erin asked. Brennan shook her head, "I find that hard to believe. On your second day here, you had an intern flirting with you. You seem to be very popular with the male species." she said as they stopped at a red light. Erin blushed and chuckled, "Looks can be deceiving. I just play the part well." she said. Brennan turned into Erin's school drop-off line. "See you at the lab, mom!" Erin said as she got out of the car and waved goodbye. Brennan waved goodbye as well and drove away.
Brennan's mind immediately went back to last night, her kiss with Booth. She had openly decided to give their relationship a try. She usually always knew what to do, what to say, when she was around Booth. But now she felt clueless. Brennan entered the lab and found her office empty. Usually, Booth was always there. She felt some relief as had time to collect herself. As she walked out of her officer while buttoning up her lab coat, she saw him. She met his gaze and he smiled, "Hey Bones! Sorry to tell ya but you gotta take the lab coat off, we got a body!" he said happily. Brennan rolled her eyes and began to take her coat off and walked towards her office. Booth kept his eyes on his partner, and she definitely noticed, "Booth," she said slyly, and Booth looked away quickly, "What? I can't be happy to see my partner?" he said. Brennan grabbed her keys and began to walk side by side with Booth with a great smile on her face. "No, there is nothing wrong with being happy to see your partner. I'm excited too." she said as she stepped into the SUV. Booth began to drive off to the crime scene, "Erin, kept asking me about our dinner, last night. She asked me how it went." Brennan said. Booth chuckled, "Oh, yeah. Well, how did it go, Bones? I had a great time." he said. Brennan placed her hand on Booth's arm. "I had a great time. You know that. I was serious Booth. About what I said at our dinner." she stated. Booth took Brennan's hand and held it firmly. "I know, I'm serious too. Serious as a heart attack." he reassured Brennan and took her hand and kissed it softly.
