Chapter 1: Midnight Deal

VALE DOCKS

With a strut in his step, two figures walk in the night across the docks of Vale. The street lights to guide their way, a man and young lady were heading to one of their first meetups in a long time. Not missing a step with her boss, the two were almost in sync as they reached one of many warehouses.

Stopping by the entrance, the young man tapped the girls shoulder whilst standing by the door.

"Alright Neo, how many are we dealing with?" He asked, looking around with a sweat dropping down his head. His Neapolitan friend, both hair and outfit could only shrug in response. Pointing inside, the young ginger realised there were only both them and those inside.
Taking a breath, the newly established crime boss slowly brought his hands to the entrance.

It was time to get to work.

As the slide doors opened, he brought out a smile whilst Neo did the same. Up ahead in the dark warehouse were many crates, surrounding the complex almost like a barrier of sorts. Keeping his strut, the young boss brought out his cane as a sign of welcoming to himself.

Shooting a flare into the sky, those sitting up ahead were alerted to his presence.

"Hello~ fellow crime bosses~!" He shouted, a dazzle in his voice as he made his way to the round table with Neo close behind. With the table up ahead occupied by certain individuals, he knew this wouldn't be easy. Especially since he was the quote on quote, new kid on the block.

But he'd get to the top eventually, he just needed to make his presence known.

"Ah, Roman. You're late as usual." One of the well-dressed men said, sitting to the right of the table as Roman soon sat down beside him. Middle-aged, blonde hair and pure emerald eyes, the young Roman Torchwick knew who this man was. Only made more dangerous by the seven foot man standing beside him, wearing a similar grey suit to his boss.

"It's called being fashionably late, Joey~"

"Watch your tongue, boy!" He shouted back, hands slamming the table as everyone present had moved back, hands all reaching into their pockets. Though his attention was on young Torchwick, he soon found himself at the end of a blade, Neo having already unsheathed her sharp blade.

"That's enough, Mr Valk." A man said, as all eyes on the table had now been drawn to the man sitting furthest from the entrance. With an angered huff, the 4th boss of the PH sat back down much to the surprise of everyone present. Letting out a sigh, the man responsible was none other than Derik Jian.

"It's nice to see you again Mr CEO." This time, a voice came from the left side, a lady who sat with her legs crossed. With cold grey hair and purple eyes, she gave a gentle smile to the veteran of crime. Roman winced at the sight, her hand sliding across the table and placing it on the older man.
His golden eyes shot down to the gesture, pulling back immediately with a nervous jump.

"You too Miss Snow..." He whispered back, everyone present trying not to pay attention as one of the younger men took a step to the table.

"That's enough horseplay, aren't you going to tell us why were here?" He said, leaning forward as the other crime bosses turning their attention back to Derik. The boss of a high-end dust company, and entrepreneur of many bars, stepped around towards the youngster in front of everyone.

"I don't have to tell you anything, little dog." He whispered, steps echoing as the group had become all but silent. As if the boss had changed the mood, the young 2IC took a step back, adjusting his glasses as he tried to keep a straight face.

Only to have his heartbeat quicken, Derik's hand had made it's way to his neck.

"Perhaps this little dog needs to be punished?" He mumbled, just loud enough so that everyone could make it out. Before he could do anything else though, a hand placed itself between himself and the young-in. Turning to the grabber, Derik found his eyes locked with old silver eyes.

"I apologise for this child's outburst, Mister Jian." He found his golden eyes locked with a man far older than he was. Though he had short grey hair, the chairman of the Kuma Clan was still something to be feared. Towering over the CEO in both height and physique, Derik Jian slowly walked back to his side of the table.

Sitting back down beside his boss, the young mobster kept his head down as he spoke.

"Before we were so rudely interrupted," Derik started "I wanted to offer you all a very interesting trade."

Interesting? Roman thought, looking back on previous offers from the CEO. Dust, lien, even business complexes were many of what he would sell in order to further himself. Being the boss of a popular dust company, 2nd only to the Schnee's was an achievement in and of itself, but to say he didn't give interesting deals was an understatement.
Millions of lien were always involved, and this time, things would be different.

"What kind of trade?" The man on his right said, ruffling his brown hair as the others took a step away from the unkempt man. Roman frowned at the sight, he was here too? Adjusting himself on the chair, he felt better knowing he was more well-dressed than that gorilla in a suit.

"A very enticing one, a package with powers beyond anything you've ever seen." Derik said, snapping his finger as two suited men came from the shadows. Roman, Neo and the other crime bosses watched as the 'package' was thrown onto the table for all to see.

Roman's eyes widened at the sight, as did many others present as the blonde crime-lord leaned in for a closer look.

"A faunus? And a little girl at that..." He started, standing up as he began to observe the faunus. It seemed that she was a reptilian faunus of some kind, green scales patterned across her cheeks, feet and even a tail. But this wasn't enough to sway the Valk.

"What's so special about her?"

"I'll show you. Do it, faunus." He spoke in a grimm tone, the little girl frozen in place as the others bosses watched with curious eyes. Her feet shifting in-place, the mood grew sour as the CEO brought out a button and pressed an input. To everyones surprise, volts began to blast into the little girls body, the faunus screaming as everyone jumped back.

"What the hell are you doing to her?!" The young mobster shouted, his glasses having fallen off in shock.

"Just watch, boy. And behold...!" Derik said, pointing to the little girl as everyone watched the scene unfold.

Screaming in agony, the reptilian faunus could only clutch her neck in pain as she needed to survive. As if on instinct, she let out a thunderous scream that caused the surrounding gigantic crates to crash into the walls of the warehouse. Everyone had ducked to the ground, watching her amazing power as Roman was dumbfounded.

What kind of ability was that?

After what felt like minutes of suffering, Derik turned off the shock collar as she crumpled to the ground. Smoke coming off her body, but the little faunus was still breathing, as the CEO of Jian Industries took a step towards the broken table.

"What a catch I've come across! Now, who would like this purchase this little firecracker?" He spoke in an almost amused tone, hands raised in joy as the other crime bosses looked at each other in surprise. Was he serious? Before Roman could react, one of the men stepped forward with a suitcase of money, placing it down on the floor and opening it.

"One million lien, Mr Jian." It was the middle-aged blondie, having already thrown his money away for this little girl. Roman was dumbfounded at the sight, as Derik let out a hearty laugh, looking around to see if anyone else had offers for the boss.

"Ah- Ah- Ah~! We can't just make a deal just yet. I haven't even told you her semblance yet~" Derik said, a hand brushing his black hair as everyone went to sit back down. Taking out a small file from his pocket, he slid it across the table towards the centre as he let out a sigh.

...

"If you want to know more, I'm gonna need all of you to give me something in return." He said, leaning on the replacement table set up by one of his men. The other crime bosses murmured amongst themselves, as Roman put a hand on his chin in thought.

Clearly this girls valuable, but with the offer of one million lien... I'd rather not have such a dent in my ever expanding wallet... His logic was somewhat sound, having only gotten into the crime business only a few years ago. His HQ in Vale was still pretty small, no need to make big purchases just yet.

"Has everyone come to a decision?"

Going around each boss on the table, each one had nodded yes to the proposition of one million lien for this file. All except the elder before the young Roman, who shook his head before leaving the warehouse.

"Way to ruin the mood, 3rd Chairman." Perhaps the old-timer didn't realise just how valuable of an asset this reptilian faunus was? Or maybe the Kuma Clan Chairman was just as broke as he was.

"Roman? How about you?" Derik said, arms crossed as the others awaited his decision. With a tap on the shoulder, and a wink from Neo, Roman took a breath before denying the request.

"Well Mr Jian... I've decided-"

CRASH!

The glass around the warehouse had all broken in unison, screams from outside the warehouse heard as everyone turned to the sound. The sound of claws screeching across the ground, gurgled grows and brittle glass had set everyone off on high alert.

Of all times for this to happe, it had to be now!

"It's a grimm attack!" Valk shouted, pulling out a gun as the other bosses had began to make their own escape. Beowulves had begun to pour in out of nowhere, coming from many of the entrances as everyone rushed around the warehouse to find an alternate way out. Derik realised the position he was in, and reached out to grab his slave.

Only to find the little faunus had already reached the backdoor, his eyes widening as she looked back.

"You little shi-" Derik couldn't finish, as a roar came from behind the CEO. Managing to duck under the beowulfs slash, he brought out a rifle and gunned the creature down. Monsters began to pour in from all sides, as Roman grabbed ahold of Neo in an effort to escape.

Derik had already rushed into the darkness, possibly an alternate exit made only for him. Roman knew this wouldn't be the end of Jian Industries.

The grey-haired lady had a turquoise glow from her semblance, leaping out through one of the many windows the grimm used to get in. Flawlessly exiting the warehouse, she leapt across the roof back into the city of Vale.

The blonde Valk ran out with no trouble at all, beowulves attempting to tear at his flesh but to no avail. His body was impenetrable, a yellow glow engulfing his body as he grabbed one of the grimm and threw it into the hordes. Echoes of laugher rang from outside the warehouse as he made his escape.

Though he was old, the Chairman of the Kuma Clan dodged many of the beowulves leaps towards both he and his protege. And whenever he'd dodged, he made sure his 2nd in command cut them open with his glowing silver sword. Finally getting out of the warehouse, they both disappeared into a manhole right outside.

Now the only two left, Neo was about to use her semblance when she noticed her boss' eyes were fixated on something.
More specifically, a lone file that was left on the replacement table. Grinning from ear to ear, Neo watched as his young boss let out a smirk of his own.

"He wont mind if we borrowed it, right Neo?"

Did you like it? Sorry about the bombshell of new characters lol
You won't be seeing them much until later into the story.

And what better world to start than the world of RWBY? A world which has so much and yet so little.

Call it a standalone story in the world of Remnant, one that you don't need to understand much about hunters and huntresses, the war between Salem & Ozpin or even the Gods to enjoy.

All you need is an open mind and a keyboard/touchpad to give me feedback so I can improve on the story.

As for next chapter? Were going to introduce someone on the other side of the law, who might have a very skewed outlook on the world.

I've decided to make part the story in Vale as it's already an established and familiar town that we all know and love. But did you know there's more cities and places to explore? So I've decided to take a liberty and create a whole new city for myself located below Vale!
