It's hard to pinpoint where it began. I was taken in by a woman and she cared for me like I was her own. My parents were killed right in front of me. All I have left is my father's sword and my Mother's bow and arrows. I spent days wandering around a forest and stumbled into a city with big walls. I knew there had been a war and it seemed to have ended. I walked around the city looking for food and hopefully a place to rest. I never begged as father would have said. ' to beg is to be weak'
Before you think my father is cruel let me rest your mind and say he isn't. He cared for and loved me and my mother to his dying breath. My father was a lord and my mother his lady. But as the war that plagued millions and took many lives reached our lands it made my family run. Fire Nation blazed and burned our meadows and killed our trees and murdered women and children. Our home was peaceful my people of a race now gone except for me. Kinda like the avatar I heard so much about. I was a mixture of the holy and the damned as some would call it. An unholy mating.
But my parents loved me as well as our people. The fire nation wanted my father to join in their war but father wouldn't join such foolishness as he said. That wasn't the answer they were looking for. The fire nation knew of our power and our strengths. We kept hidden from the other nations my mother feared that one day trouble would suffice and we would be used. My mother wasn't wrong. We put up a hell of a fight and took down many as they did us. But no matter how hard we tried and how strong our powers were we couldn't make them retreat. I watched as our home burned and many of my people scream as they burned to death.
It was myself and brother and parents that fled knowing we will die if we stayed. My uncle held them off as long as he can. My brother left and never returned we assumed he died. We lasted months staying hidden my parents training me and honing my powers and skill. I became a weapon. Mother said to not have revenge my heart and not to cloud my judgment with hate. Father thought differently. Father wanted to avenge our people and our lands that he once ruled. At the time I sided with my father. Together we took down a lot of fire Nation camps and freed those who have captured innocents. The people called us mist as they never can see our faces and we disappeared once we freed them.
It was night when we got ambushed. We stayed in the thick forest and always made camp without a campfire. We lived off of peanuts and little meat. During the day we cooked and during the night we ate peanuts. Father always complained he wasn't used to not finding and killed boars for his family. Mother said it was to risky since everywhere we go there were fire nation soldiers. Mother told stories about how she used to camp out as we did. Always carrying her yellow backpack and how her friends and my uncle and brother bickered and how together they defeated a wicked man. Mother would say and look down at her handful of peanuts saying how times now were different. But every night as she tucked me to bed and kissed my forehead she always reminded me that things will get better as they always do.
But mother forgot in order for things to get better they had to go through the worst. That night when we were ambushed from all sides Mother throwing arrows after arrows father with his sword killing all that dared to get close and never once did a single drop of blood landed on him. My powers took out many and I could always hold my own thanks to my parent's training but there were too many of them and one grabbed me from behind. Gasping as the soldier hold became tight around my throat. My parents dropped their weapons and held their hands up in the air. It was when we least expected that from somewhere high on the hills arrows came flying landing on my parents back and two other soldiers stabbed their sides. I never knew the capability of powers I just remembered feeling heavy grief and anger I almost missed the exploding pink wave that killed the soldiers of the ambush turning them into nothing but dust.
I ran to my parents and held their hand's tears coming down my face. My father's hand cupped my face and held up his swords he slowly nodded his head. I turned to my mother she had a sad smile on her face tears coming down as she looked at me.
''Don't be afraid sweetheart.'' She told me I shook my head back and forth tears flying everywhere. I looked between my mom and dad.
''No! Please don't leave me I don't know what to do mama I need you both I can heal you!'' I cried and my hands began to blow the lightest pink. My father's hand grabbed mine. He shook his head sadly and his eyes held the emotion that no matter what I say my father will have his way.
''No daugther you used a lot of your strength you heal us we all will be dead.'' He told me I tried anyways but my father's grip on my hand tighten I cried at in pain.
''Remember who you are .help those in need and always take down those who strike you,'' Dad said I began sobbing and nodded my head my gaze returned to my mother.
''Love promise me you will always try to see the good in anyone. Promise me you'll live fall in love and have an epic story and remember that we're always with you.'' Mother told me I sobbed louder and nodded my head dad began to cough up blood and his breathing began to stop. My mother grabbed my hand with what little strength she had.
''We'll be okay now promise me that you'll do what I asked and use your powers for good'' Mother coughed the same as my dad and her breathing stopped as well. I shooked both my parents sobbing and yelling for them to not leave. I don't know how long I stayed between their bodies but my throat was sore from yelling and my eyes hurt from crying. I remember wiping my eyes on my sleeve and making my parents grave. I took my father's sword and my mother's bow and arrows. I even took their clothing in case someone might find their graves and steal their clothes. My Father's scent always comforts me I changed into his clothes tieing pants and rolling up the sleeves as I was small. I put his swords on my side like he did and hung mother's bow on my shoulder. I used my mother's clothes to make a sack and put all my things in.
I stood at their graves as the sky started to turn bright orange and pink as the sun began to rise. My eyes began to tear I prayed and hoped the gods will listen. But before I left I knelled down to my mother's grave. ''I promise mom'' I whispered and kissed the stone I place for her and kissed my father's stone.
Now I walk in a city called Ba Sing Se. I had to pickpocket some people for money I didn't like doing it but I just need a little. With the money, I was able to buy an actual bag. It was large and dark green and held the earth symbol in the middle. I carefully untied my sack that was my mother's clothes and folded it carefully in my bag and my other things. I felt like I had to find the avatar and help defeat the fire Nation I was planning to find out where he was last seen and start from there. But I was brought out of my thoughts when I heard shouting. I looked up from the ground and saw a group of people and them throwing rocks. I made my way over and pushed my way to the front.
I gasped when I saw a woman with a fire nation robe on her knees and her hands shielding her head from the oncoming stones. Even if this woman was from the fire nation they didn't know if she was good or bad. Remembering my mother's promise I pushed the people aside and stood in front of the woman. I glared at the crowd and they all seemed to step back. ''How dare you! That woman is from the fire nation! Child get out of the way!'' A short man with oily hair shouted at me.
I glared at him and he fell deeper into the flow of people. ''I don't care where she is from! In every nation, there are good and bad people. Just because this woman is from the fire nation doesn't mean she herself is a bad person! Don't let your fear and anger of the fire nation make you think that all people of the fire nation are bad! If you do that's just another victory for them!"' I shouted into the crowd I heard mummers and agreement and the crowd slowly went away.
I helped the woman to her feet and she gave me a warm smile. ''Thank you, young lady. That was very nice of you'' She told me I smiled and shrugged at her.
''It's nothing ma'am I hate it when people judge others where they're from. But just of curiosity your not bad are you?'' I asked her The woman smiled at me and laughed softly. She took off her hood and she was a beautiful woman she had a perfect heart-shaped face and very kind gold eyes.
''No Child I left my nation to protect someone I love.''She informed me I smile at her and grabbed the bag that I dropped on the floor in my hast to help her. I slung my bag over my shoulder and wiped my sliver hair out of my eyes. '' I get that. I'm guessing it's your kid?'' I asked her the woman's eyes grew with shock she nodded her head as she looked at me.
''I did How did you know?'' I shrugged my shoulder at her question and replied honestly.
''You have a look in your eyes that speak louder than words ma'am it has a lot of pain like one who last a child...I know that I've seen it'' I told her looking down my bangs hiding my eyes to block her view of my tears. I felt her hand on my shoulder and brought me in a hug. I tensed at the kind gesture and slowly hugged her back.
''My child still lives but I'm assuming your parents are no longer with us?'' She asked I nodded over as my face was hidden in her stomach. She pulled me back and pushed my bangs out of my face and gave me a warm smile. I felt her motherly affections and it made me feel safe. She kissed my forehead and hugged me again.
''Well, then it's settled. You will be coming with me it wouldn't be smart for a pretty girl such as yourself to wonder on your own and since I can't be with my children would you like to be mine?'' She asked me I stepped back from her with shock and confusion. I moved my head back and forth. I felt safe with this woman as she felt like my mother did. Kind safe warm but I couldn't stay, right? My gut feeling told me otherwise and I was always taught to listen to it.
''You mean to become your family?" I asked she laughed and patted my head.
''Silly child of course. Unless you wish not too I do miss having my daughter even if she was more of her father's child.'' She sadly said I felt many things go through me happy hopeful scared and accepted. ''But you barely know me'' I stated I didn't even take noticed we were walking father would be most unpleased I thought. She laughed again and shook her head.
''How you stood up for me without knowing if I had bad intentions or not and how you held yourself I know you're different than others more so than other's believe. If I may be so forward but I bet your parents are proud of you and they raised a fine young lady'' she told me fondly I felt myself smiling wide at her praise and warmth filled my being. I nodded my head at her and smiled. ''I will be honored to be with'' I told her the lady clapped her hands smiling and laughing.
''Excellent! I now have another daughter may I know your name so I won't call you child all the time?'' She happily asked I giggled at her actions feeling like everything was coming together and it made me hopeful and happy things were changing in a good way for me and I know my parents would be glad I met this woman who took me under her wing.
''It's Nova...Nova Tashio'' I told her
''What a beautiful name!'' She explained and hugged me tight this time I was quick to return it.
''My name is Ursa but you may call me mom!'' I smiled and nodded my head.
This is the beginning of my story and the beginning of love and friendship. Of course, to get there there will be forks in the road and fear to overcome. But the end game is worth it with it one gain's love friendship and family. This was only the start of an epic adventure.
