I just thought to put a disclaimer now at the start of the story instead of typing one out every chapter ahah. It is purely fictional and all events are made up. I do not own or have any connections with the show, the actors, and the creators.

The author's story is surrounded around online dating and ghost writers both of which are not correlated to the actors, characters or the show that are being portrayed in the story. Concepts are just fictional. As the author I do not intend any harm onto anyone mentioned in the story this is for fans.

There are new-is characters I'm adding that are not in the "friends universe" so they don't have a face attached them.

Please excuse any grammar mistakes as they will pop up! (I tend to write more at night after work so it is inevitable).

Lastly, enjoy the story on a modern-ish take on my favourite on screen couple. Any reviews are always welcome!

Holding a coffee in one hand and her cellphone in the other Rachel walked into the offices frantically. After taking a break from work and throwing herself back into writing she knows this will be hard but, what else can you do? Work is needed for her to continue living. Even if her entire job is to help people fall in love. In the most current way possible. Online Dating. Which is the thing she wants to avoid the most; the thought of love.

Getting into the elevator her phone started ringing, completely forgetting that she put it up to full volume to avoid any missed calls just in case someone just happens to call her.. Maybe an old friend? Or perhaps an ex?

"Hello?"

"Rach, where are you?" Monica spoke loudly on the other end of the phone Rachel had to take it away from her ear.

"Calm down Mon, I'm just in the elevator now." Rachel calmed down her friend.

"All the clients have been waiting for you to return, you have 4 to talk too and to get set up!"

"Breathe Monica, I can already feel you're stressed from here." She joked.

"Hey, don't forget I'm your boss now too." Monica reminded her. Which is true, having come into the company around the same time Monica got promoted over Rachel. Not because she was doing less work but because the company just couldn't afford to lose the demand that Rachel has from clients. The irony that Monica is in a loving relationship with someone while being the newly appointed CEO of "Matched". Both her and Rachel laugh about it from time to time.

"Friend before boss. I'm almost to our floor see you in less than a minute tell the clients to wait." Now Monica was the one laughing.

"You know when in love people get anxious you would— Sorry." Monica corrected herself.

"I know the consequences of love all too well, it's okay that's why I took a break right? To calm down and relax before finding love for other people."

"We need our best writer."

"And I am here, ok bye."

"Bye." Rachel hung up the phone and sighed heavily. Getting ready for more weird conversations around her situation. With even more questions she doesn't want to answer. But what else can she do when everything was made public that it came crashing down in front of her.

Note to self: Make things private for next time.. if a next time happens to come around. Rachel thought to herself.

As soon as she had gotten out of the elevator onto her floor, the phone began to ring. Again.

"Mon, I'm already he—."

"Sweetie."

Closing her eyes tightly Rachel was not expecting to hear her mother's voice. Especially in that tone she has been listening to for almost a month. It made her feel that the only reason she's getting constant calls is because of the pity her parents feel for her. The pity that she wanted to avoid all along when she told them what had happened.

"Hi mom." Rachel answered closing her eyes tightly.

"How are you feeling now?" Sandra Green got straight to the point.

"The same as this morning, the same as yesterday and the day before." She sighed. "Mom I'm okay, and if I'm not okay then it's fine it will all be fine."

"Why are you back at work I thought you would fly over here for a little bit to be with me and your father? We're just worried about you."

"I can't—"Monica grabbed Rachel's phone from her hands and took over speaking. "Hi Sandra, it's Monica! I'll take care of her I promise, you and Leonard don't need to worry."

Monica then nodded and pointed for Rachel to enter her office which she followed.

"Yes, no overworking for her."

Monica then followed her friend closing the door then hanging up the phone as soon as they were safe. She had quickly noticed how Rachel's mood went downhill from the moment her mom called, it was as if the switch just flipped off from her already apparent dull mood.

After everything went public in her private life Rachel's parents have been constantly calling her no matter what. Regardless of how many times she has said it's fine. Regardless of her honesty. It's the mother's intuition. Plus it doesn't help that her parents now are living miles away so they can't visibly see their daughter. And they didn't see her pain, which is something she has been grateful for. But she also wishes that things were different.

"You told me they're okay with you working again." Monica sighed looking at her best friend with her arms crossed in front of her.

"I don't have a problem with what they're thinking Mon. Honestly, it's driving me insane. I don't even live with them anymore and it still feels like I am. But I know, I can't stay at home, you said it yourself they need their head writer right?" Rachel's attempt at brushing off Monica was no use when the two have practically been attached at the hip since they met at a young age.

"Yes but—"

"Just please give me the pile of who I need to meet with."

"You need to go home, clearly you're still not okay." Ever since Rachel showed up on Monica's doorstep drenched from rain she had always had the sympathy approach for her. Not like she didn't have it prior. It was just increased due to seeing her friend so heart broken after viewing that her then whirlwind romance would lead down a happy ending. One that Monica believes she deserves more than anyone.

"Who can help a lonely heart find the love of their life other than a broken heart right?"

"Rach,"

"I am fine."

"Ok sure whatever. Here are our new clients. All of them waited until you would come back since they all requested you specifically." Monica handed her four files. "Have fun your first client is just waiting for you to call them in."

"Oh the joy, finding people their happy endings." Rachel said sarcastically flipping through the files seeing her client load for the day.

"We got one more wedding invite because of you," Monica tried to cheer Rachel up.

"At least someone's wedding happened." Rachel replied and walked out.

Going into work to help people fall in love is something that ironically doesn't happen often for Rachel. The head ghost writer for people who are nervous to message their matches. She has the highest succession rate, almost 95%. But underneath all of that she also the highest failure rate at love.

Opening her work computer for the first time in days she saw how it all lit up with the all too familiar logo of "Matched". While waiting for everything to load Rachel began to think how she ended up with this path in her life. When her and Monica both graduated university they had plans of making their own business. This is partly true now that the best friends are practically labeled as New York's matchmaking duo. Which is a blessing and a curse. How can ½ responsible for the love lives of thousands of people be the one who is the most heartbroken out of them all? How can the best ghost writer for people's flourishing relationships be the one who's love life shatters in public?
