Not everyone is bad.
'It takes a great deal of courage to stand up to our enemies, but it takes equally as much courage to stand up to our friends' was something that Lily lived by. These were her grandfather's final words before his death. These words had always struck a deep chord within her. It was a rainy day on October 31st 1969. Lily and her sister Petunia lived together with their family in a small town called Spinners End, deep within the English mainland.
Lily was a 9-year-old, pretty red-head girl who liked to read a lot and to gather knowledge. But her older sister Petunia on the contrary was a horse-faced blonde girl who liked to play sports, was sociable but had a perpetual habit of looking down on others whom she deemed of lower status. Just like that, one day as Lily was swinging on a swing in the park and was having a fun time with her sister, she noticed a short, raven-haired scrawny boy who wore clothes which were 2 sizes to big for him and it clearly was visible that clothes didnt belong to him, running across the park with a blonde, fat boy who looked like a pig, chase after him with 2 equally fat friends and a skinny, red-head boy who was running along with them. As the raven-haired boy was running across the field, his foot got stuck on a root and he tripped over and fell flat on his face. His nose was broken and mud was caked all over his face. As he got up again, the blonde fat-boys caught up to him and pushed him down again in the mud.
They all laughed at him and the lead blonde, fat boy mocked him out aloud. "WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO, POTTER? GONNA CRY AND RUN BACK TO MOMMY? Oh wait, she is DEAD!" and the entire group laughed as if they were hearing the best joke of the entirety of the history of man-kind. Lily was extremely appalled at their behaviour and was even more shocked to see this once she recognised who the fat boy and the skinny red-head boy. They were her friends from school. She stormed over despite of the rain making her clothes cling to her back and the sheer cold of the rain. She began berate them.
"DUDLEY! WILLIAM! THE HELL DO YOU TWO THINK YOU ARE DOING?" she screamed.
The now known Dudley turned around and blinked stupidly as the words registered in his brain. Once they did, he began.
"Oh Lily, we were just following him as he was beginning to irritate us to no end. He was about to steal our food, the little miscreant." He responded.
"Yeah Lil's, he was going to steal our food and leave us hungry" said the now known William and the others affirmed it that being the case.
"That is quite rich coming from all of you as you all look like baby killer whales." She snarkily responded.
Dudley got angry and swung his fist and Lily didn't even see it coming. As the fist connected to her skull, she fell to the mud. As she was about to come back with a response, she noticed all of them retreating.
"Guys, we should all go back. The rain is getting heavier and I don't want to catch a cold." Dudley said as they all fell back and returned to their homes. Lily was soaked in rain water and her feet were caked with mud as she stood up. She helped the scrawny boy up and she began to talk to him.
"Hey, are you alright?"
"Yeah, I am hungry though."
"Who are you? I have never seen you around here."
"My name is Hadrian Potter. I had lost my way sometime ago from home."
"Since when have you been lost Harry? Can I call you that?"
"Yeah. I have been lost for perhaps a few days? Few week? It is easy to losd track of time in the mountainous forests. I was just going to take some bread from the counter through the open window because I hadn't eaten in a while.."
"What? Let's go to my house and get you fresh. Also tell me why were they chasing you."
"Ok, they were chasing me because I tried to nick some food from the kitchen counter through the open window. They chased me for some unknown reason and I ran to save my hide. But thank you for keeping me going."
Lily's eyes furrowed in confusion. She couldn't understand what did this boy meant.
"What do you mean, Harry?" she asked, confused by his statement.
"I meant to thank you for keeping me going because you have given me hope. Hope that not the entire world is terrible and there is something to fight for." he said. Smiling sadly all the while.
Lily smiled and responded with a courteous "Thank you" but her smiled saddened as she heard the rest of his statement. So, she decided to give him a piece of advice that her grandfather had given her a long time ago.
"Harry, I want to share a nifty piece of advice that my grandfather had given me. May i?" she asked for his permission politely.
"Yeah, go on."
"Alright. Life is not about how hard you can hit. It is always about how hard you can get hit and keep moving. It is always about hard you can get hit and keep on fighting. And no matter what, you always keep finding something to fight for."
"Always?" he asked.
"Yes Harry. Always."
Harry internally danced because he knew what this girl infront of him would grow up to be and he grew sad aswell when he thought about it.
"And you know what, Harry?" Lily asked.
"What?" Harry replied.
"Not everyone is bad."
