Prologue

To say the second impact changed the world forever would be the biggest understatement of all time. It forced the world into a permanent winter to summer cycle, allowed the angels to begin their invasion, and triggered ragging wars across the world. The worst of these wars were the Tribal Conflicts of Africa. Individual skirmishes from before the impact turned into a continent wide struggle for survival that bled into the middle east. Nations ceased to exist, countries fell to superior firepower, and imperial rule came to the majority of southern Africa. The new South African Empire was born when Major Ian Bekker left the South African Army and formed the 9th Circle Private Military. His plan was to create a nation of soldiers that stood above all states, siding with noone but the highest bidder. This plan would work out far better than he thought when he was contracted by the very military he abandoned to expand the borders of South Africa far beyond their previous limits. Within two years of the signing of the Valentines Treaty, South Africa had control over most of Africa, past the Zambezi River and into the Congo.

Now the General of his nation of soldiers, Ian Bekker searched for new ventures. He still made plenty of money from the Resource Wars raging in Africa, and he had a Puppet President installed into the South African Government, but he needed more to see his dreams come to fruition. That was when he discovered NERV. An organization that bled so much funds, entire nations starved for it simply because they had the Evangelion. Ian saw an opportunity and got to work. He began by making an alternative to the Evangelion, The Fool. The Fool was a suit of mechanized armor that would be worn by a soldier who would use it to climb an Angel and destroy their core with C4. This failed, however, when test subjects would be crushed to death by the suit. A spy within NERV revealed the secret of the Evangelion to Ian, and they went to work. Finding the remains of Primordial beings was rather difficult, until they took control of Kenya, the site of the garden of Eden. There, they found a DNA sample similar enough to a human, but different enough to be considered an Angel to use. This led to the creation of several failed prototypes leading up to the twentieth and final form of the company's EVA, Judgement.

However, they had one major issue. No adult could pilot the EVA, the cockpit was far too small. The few children that could be found were unable to even sync properly with Judgement, until they checked outside of South Africa. In the New Rhodesian Republic territory, a small unit discovered a militia composed almost entirely of child soldiers. Most of them were terrified of the soldiers, except for one, a South African-Japanese child named Alex Senshi. When the soldiers arrived, he was excited to see them and showed a strong desire to engage in open conflict. He was taken to the main base in Pretoria, South Africa, where it was quickly discovered that he was capable of piloting an EVA and was kept hidden from the Marduk Institute. This was two months before the first angel attack in Tokyo-3. 9th Circle managed to forge a contract with NERV to allow Alex to join their ranks as a contracted pilot.

But why would the company run a contract with a group they wanted to take resources from?

A/N: This is honestly just something I wrote on the fly because I had an idea: "What if a pilot within NERV was working against them?" You'll see much more in the first chapter which will be out very soon as I started writing before this, then I realized I need to do some world building. I feel happy about this so far so enjoy!

Update: Changed a name for regional accuracy
