Young Sokka chased his little sister in the halls of the Southern Water Tribe palace. The siblings giggled and laughed as they ran around each other. Sokka tried to catch his sister while Katara was trying not to be caught.

Katara suddenly stopped as she looked out a nearby window. Down below, in front of the palace, was a couple of strange looking creatures. With them were a man and a woman in orange and yellow robes with blue arrows tattooed on them.

Sokka took this chance to grab his sister, "Gotcha!" He exclaimed as he wrapped his arms around her and lifted her up.

Katara struggled against his grip, "Sokka let me go!"

"Nope. I caught you!"

"No! Sokka look!" She nodded towards the window.

Sokka looked out the window and gasped, "Whoa!" He let go of his sister and went up to the window, "What are they?"

"I don't know." Katara said as she joined him at the window. She grinned excitedly, "We should go find out."

Sokka returned her grin and nodded before the siblings took off running.

They made it to the hall near the entrance when they saw the man and woman walking in with their father, Chief Hakoda.

Behind them was a boy around Katara's age that she hadn't noticed before. His dark brown hair was a little bit messy and he looked a little small for his age.

Hakoda walked into the throne room with the two adults. As the boy started to walk in, the woman told him to wait outside.

The boy stepped back as the doors closed. He sighed and sat next to the doors, bringing his knees up to his chest and hugging them.

Katara and Sokka looked at each other before walking up to the boy.

"Hi! I'm Sokka, and this is my sister Katara!"

The boy looked up at them a little startled. Now that she had a closer look at him, Katara thought he was kinda cute.

The boy stood up, "Uh... I-I'm Aang."

"Nice to meet you." Sokka stuck his hand out toward him which made Aang jump a little.

Aang remembered his dad telling him how they greeted each other in the Water Tribe and took Sokka's arm and vice versa.

"Why are you so jumpy?" Sokka asked as they let go of each other's arms.

"Sorry, this is just my first time out of the Air Temple. It's all a little new to me." Aang replied

"You're an airbender?" Katara asked in amazement.

"Uh... y-yeah."

"Can you show us a trick?"

"S-sure."

Aang reached into a pocket hidden in his shirt and pulled out grey marbles. The marbles started spinning in the air as he put his other hand over them.

"This is the first trick I learned. My dad taught me."

"Whoa!" The siblings exclaimed at the same time.

"That's so cool!" Katara said as Aang put his marbles away.

"Thanks." Aang replied with a blush.

"So what are you and your parents doing here anyways?" Sokka asked.

Aang shrugged, "I don't know. They they wouldn't tell me." He paused before smiling, "You wanna see my flying bison!?"

"Your... what?"

"My flying bison!" Aang repeated, "He's outside, come on!"

Aang led the two outside the front doors to where the two big bison sat in the courtyard.

"This is Wangchen my dad's bison and Carrot my mom's bison." Aang said as he pet each one, "The little one is my bison Appa!"

He motioned to the little bison that was playing in the snow, "This is the first time he's seen snow." Aang explained.

"Appa come here!"

Appa looked up curiously then perked up when he saw Aang. The little bison bounded towards the young airbender and jumped on him, knocking him into the snow.

Aang laughed as Appa licked him excitedly, "Appa stop!" Appa got off him, still excited as Aang stood up, "Appa, this is Sokka and Katara."

The bison looked at the two newcomers curiously. Katara smiled and stuck her hand out towards him. Appa sniffed her hand before softly licking her.

Katara giggled, "He's so cute." She pet the small bison.

"So you said they were flying bison?" Sokka asked as he curiously looked at the three bison.

"Yep! You two want to ride on Appa?"

"Yeah!" Katara exclaimed with a wide smile.

"I don't know…" Sokka said as he nervously looked at the small bison.

"Don't worry, it'll be perfectly safe!" Aang said as he climbed onto Appa's back.

"You sure he can hold all our weight?" Sokka asked as Katara climbed on Appa behind Aang.

"Just come on Sokka!" Katara said. Sokka sighed as he climbed onto Appa behind his sister.

"Appa yip yip!"

Appa began to lift in the air upon Aang's command. Katara gasped and wrapped her arms around Aang tightly.

Aang blushed at their closeness as he began leading Appa over the Southern Water Tribe. Katara kept hold of the airbender as she looked down at her kingdom. Sokka also looked down at their kingdom and the siblings marveled.

They don't leave the palace walls much, especially since their mother died a few years ago. Their father had been afraid of his only children being taken from him just like his wife had been.

People down below looked up at the bison flying over them. Air Nomads have visited the tribe before so it wasn't unusual to see. Though none has ever seen one so small.

Aang directed Appa to turn around once they made it to the edge of the kingdom. As they made their way back to the palace, their ride got a little lower with a jerk.

"What's going on?" Katara asked.

"I don't know. Maybe the weight is too much for Appa." Aang replied.

"I thought you said this was perfectly safe!" Sokka said.

"Appa has carried three people before so it should be!"

Once they got over the wall, Appa landed pretty fast making the trio fall off. Sokka fell with his head getting buried in the snow. Aang fell on his back and Katara fell next to him. Sokka pulled his head out of the snow.

The three were silent before busting up laughing. They clutched their stomachs while they laid in the snow as their joy filled the air.

"So then it's settled. Every summer Aang will come to stay with us to learn waterbending." Hakoda said.

"Remember, no one else can know he's the Avatar. Even Sokka and Katara." Tinley said.

Hakoda smiled, "You have nothing to worry about Tinley. Aang will be safe here. The only people who know Aang is the Avatar is everyone in this room." He motioned to the group in the throne room. The other two people in the room were Master Pakku who would be Aang's teacher, and Bato who would be watching over the young airbender.

"We have complete faith in you Chief Hakoda." Amala said with a smile.

Hakoda nodded as Tinley said, "Thank you for your hospitality Chief Hakoda but we should be going so we can prepare Aang. Summer is only a week away."

"No need to thank me. Air Nomads are always welcome in the Southern Water Tribe." Hakoda said as he walked with the couple out of the throne room.

The chief paused as they came up to the entrance doors of the palace, "Do you hear laughing?" He asked.

"Yes, it sounds like the children have already met." Amala said.

The three of them exited the castle to the outside to see their kids laughing in the snow.

"I haven't heard them laugh like that since their mother died." Hakoda said as he watched his two kids.

Amala smiled, "Aang!"

Aang stopped laughing and looked up. He quickly got to his feet and ran up to his mother.

"Are we leaving already?" Aang asked, a little disappointed.

"I'm afraid so sweetie, but we'll be coming back next week." Amala replied

"Really?"

Amala nodded as Sokka and Katara ran up to their father.

"Dad! Aang let us fly on his bison and it was awesome!" Sokka said

"And Aang also showed us a cool airbending trick!" Katara added.

Hakoda smiled, "Well I'm glad you had fun. Aang will be returning next week and be staying with us over the summer."

"Really!?" Sokka and Katara exclaimed excitedly.

Appa could sense the excitement in the air and bounded over to the group to see what was happening.
