Prologue: Swear to the Swan
"Please don't go Mom," her son pleads, looking up at her with his hazel eyes… her eyes. Usually, those eyes are filled with happiness and wonder, but today they are filled with worry and severe anxiety. The expression on his face matched those eyes, it was always like this whenever someone had to leave the protection of their home. While Emma wishes that she could rid him of these worries, she did not have much of a choice in the matter. The time had come to finally finish her training in magic.
"I promise I won't be gone long," she says, as she packed her things in her satchel. She's only going to bring what she needed, expecting to be home within a few days, a week at the latest. Her hand hovers over her baby blanket, something she'd kept with her, even after outgrowing the need for such comforts at night. It was the epitome and symbol of her parents' love for her and what they had done to protect her and give her the life she deserved. In the end, she decides to leave it.
"Swear to the swan…"
Emma sighs, and looks over at her son. Something that had been made up between the two of them when he was young, the phrase had become synonymous of the trust the mother and son had for one another. Knowing what they had to do next, she gives him a smile before going and pulling him into her arms. The two then link both their pinkies and looking into each other's eyes, never breaking the gaze, per the rules.
"I swear to the Swan and to the heavens beyond that I will return to you, Henry Daniel and nothing will ever stop me from holding you in my arms again."
Her son looks up at her before they embrace, sealing their promise. However, the young boy cannot help but feel as if this promise might become broken or at the very least strained due to a little thing called fate.
A/N: Here is a new fanfiction. It will feature the characters from Descendants, but they will not necessarily be the main focus of the story. Please follow and review.
