Hi, hello. I noticed a disturbing lack of DSOD fanfiction, so I decided to remedy that.
NOTICE: DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE DARK SIDE OF DIMENSIONS I KNOW THE MOVIE HAS BEEN OUT SINCE 2016 BUT I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE WE'RE ALL ON THE SAME PAGE HERE, OKAY?
Thank you, please enjoy.
"I still believe in the heart...of the...cards..."
BEEP BEEP BEEP
The morning sun shone through his eyelids, indicating the start of a new day. Yuugi offered the sun a quick 'good morning' as he sprung out of bed. He opened his closet and paused. It felt as though he were forgetting something. He gazed around his room. Everything was as it should be...so why did he feel so out of place?
"Yuugi, are you up yet?" Solomon called, "You'll be late if you don't hurry!"
"Coming Grandpa!" He threw on his school uniform and descended the stairs. Snagging a piece of toast off the counter, he made if halfway though the door before he realized he'd left the puzzle in his room! He opened the door and was immediately dumbfounded by the lack of a puzzle on his bed. That was odd...the chain was usually wrapped around the bed post so it wouldn't fall off. Maybe he'd had a particularly active night? Yuugi peeked under the bed. No puzzle. Under the desk? Nada. He ripped up the sheets, but still nothing.
"Yuugi, you won't get there in time if you don't leave now!"
"I'll be down in a minute!" He called, tearing through his drawers. Where was it!? He was halfway through unorganizing his closet when Solomon opened the door.
"Goodness my boy, what is so important? You're going to be late!"
"The puzzle!" Yuugi despaired, "It's gone! I can't find it!"
His Grandfather sighed. "Yuugi, I thought we talked about bringing games to school."
Yuugi stood, shocked. "The...the millennium puzzle." His expression didn't change. "The one I always wear around my neck?"
Solomon's brow furrowed. "Around your neck? Is that what's popular with the kids these days?"
"Grandpa, you gave it to me. Don't you remember?"
"My boy, I have given you many things, but a puzzle necklace isn't one of them." Yuugi stood in disbelief. "Are you alright? Maybe you should stay home today, you don't look very well."
"No I...I'm fine." His eyes shifted to his bed. As much as he'd like to stay and hunt for the puzzle, he needed to see his friends. "I should...get going." He paused at the doorway. "I'm sorry about the mess Grandpa, I'll clean it up after I get back from school."
Yuugi thankfully made it just as they were closing the gates. Unfortunately however, it meant that he wouldn't be able to talk with Joey, Honda, Anzu or Bakura until lunch.
Class seemed to drag on, but he wasn't listening. The new transfer student Aigami had, for some reason, captured his attention. And rather than fret about if and how his friends wouldn't remember the spirit, he found himself brooding over the new students arrival. He didn't remember the day Aigami joined class, he was just kind of...there one day. No introduction or anything. Heck, the students didn't even acknowledge his presence most of the time. No...no that's not right. He did remember. It was just the other day wasn't it? He and his classmates were excitedly chatting about their graduation rehearsal when the teacher introduced-
Yuugi's mind stalled. Graduation? That was nearly a year away, he was only a junior. He suddenly felt very ill.
Maybe he should have stayed home like Grandpa said.
His breathing turned heavy and his eyes began to water. What day was it again? He couldn't-He...he didn't-
"-ug? Yuugi? You don't look so good, are you feeling alright?" The teacher approached his desk.
He looked up, about to protest but..."No Sensei, I don't feel well."
A chair scraped across the floor. "I'll take him to the nurses office."
The teacher looked over her shoulder. "Ah, thank you Aigami."
He felt very, very ill.
