SECTION 1:
Persona Non Grata
Chapter 1: An Interesting Year
"Well, mister Blazkowicz, you seem to have a very interesting background." Professor Ozpin said, lowering the application form to face the armored figure standing in front of his desk. "And while we here at Beacon academy would enjoy having someone with much more experience in class, we have run out of openings."
Blazkowicz turned around and approached the door, unhappy.
"-But I know that you will end up at Beacon no matter what I say, so I will accept you into my school before you do anything drastic." Ozpin told Blazkowicz, knowing that he was grinning from ear to ear behind his dark, blue visor. "The airship will be at the docks at three in the afternoon tomorrow. Please, don't be late."
Blazkowicz exited the room and the building, leaving Ozpin alone. The Doom Slayer(formerly known as Blazkowicz) glanced at the device fused to the armor covering his right wrist. He tapped the inactive screen with his meaty, sausage-like fingers. The screen remained inactive, causing him to frown and continue down the street. He glanced to his left, seeing a store at the end of the street. The right window was shattered, bullet holes were peppered across the surrounding buildings and road, and a small crater lay before the store, adjacent to a crushed cigar.
"I can't believe my baby sister is going to Beacon with me! This is the best day ever!" Yang Xiao Long said, tightly hugging Ruby Rose, her sister.
"Please stop." Ruby gasped, causing Yang to release her.
"But I'm so proud of you!"
"Really sis, it was nothing."
"What do you mean? It was incredible! Everyone at Beacon is going to think you're the bee's knees."
"I don't want to be the "bee's knees", okay? I don't want to be any kind of knees! I just want to be a normal girl with normal knees."
While Yang and Ruby discussed, the Doom Slayer sat in the corner of the airship, sharpening his Doomblade with a Sentinel brick, hard enough to sharpen the blade. He watched the people in the ship as they minded their own business, but he turned his attention to a projection of a woman when the projection replaced the news, silencing it.
"Hello, and welcome to Beacon! My name is Glynda Goodwitch." The projection told the crowd in the airship, the Doom Slayer still sharpening his blade. "You are among a privileged few who have received the honor of being selected to attend this prestigious academy! Our world is experiencing an incredible time of peace, and as future Huntsmen and Huntresses, it is your duty to uphold it. You have demonstrated the courage needed for such a task, and now it is our turn to provide you with the knowledge and the training to protect our world."
The projection of Goodwitch disappeared and the crowds rushed to the windows of the airship, looking out at the city of Vale. A passenger, a sheathed sword mounted on his belt, clutched his mouth, on the verge of vomiting.
"Well, I guess the view isn't for everyone." Yang said to Ruby, rolling her eyes.
"It was a nice moment while it lasted." Ruby replied. "I wonder who we're gonna meet! I just hope they're better than Vomit Boy. Oh, Yang, gross! You have puke on your shoe!
"Gross, gross, gross, gross, gross, gross, gross, gross!
"Get-Get away! Get away from me! Get away from me! Get away from me! Get away from me!"
The Doom Slayer leaned against the wall of Beacon's large auditorium and watched as Ruby and Jaune Arc(Vomit Boy) entered. Ruby's sister, Yang, waved to her, causing Ruby to say goodbye to Jaune and approach Yang. The Slayer inched closer to Ruby and Yang, wanting to hear what they were saying.
"-I tripped over some crabby girl's luggage, and then she yelled at me, and then I sneezed, and then I exploded, and then she yelled at me again, and I felt really, really bad, and I just wanted her to stop yelling at me!" Ruby explained to Yang, Weiss Schnee, the crabby girl, standing right behind her.
"YOU!" Weiss shouted, causing Ruby to jump into her Sister's arms like she was living in a cartoon.
"Oh, god, it's happening again!"
"You're lucky we weren't blown off the side of the cliff!"
"Oh my god, you really exploded." Yang said to Ruby in a deadpan tone.
The Slayer redirected his attention to the stage, noticing Professor Ozpin slowly walking out towards the microphone in the middle part of the upstage. He stopped in front of the microphone, turning towards the students gathered before the stage. Ozpin pushed up his glasses as he began to speak.
"I'll… keep this brief. You have traveled here today in search of knowledge, to hone your craft and acquire new skills, and when you have finished, you plan to dedicate your life to the protection of the people. But I look amongst you, and all I see is wasted energy, in need of purpose, direction." Ozpin said, causing the students to whisper amongst themselves. "You assume knowledge will free you from this, but your time at this school will prove that knowledge can only carry you so far. It is up to you to take the first step."
Ozpin stepped away from the microphone, Professor Goodwitch taking his place.
"You will gather in the ballroom tonight; tomorrow, your initiation begins. Be ready. You are dismissed." Goodwitch told the students before walking away.
The Doom Slayer walked towards the entrance/exit of the auditorium, hearing Yang and Ruby discuss Ozpin's behavior.
"He seemed kind of… off." Yang pointed out.
"It's almost like he wasn't even there." Ruby continued.
"I'm a natural blonde, you know!" Jaune said, approaching Weiss from the side and causing her to facepalm.
Ruby woke up soon before dawn, looking around the ballroom and finding only one person awake. The Doom Slayer. He held a Shotgun, which he cleaned with a rag. A rag mostly covered in dried blood. He glanced at Ruby before continuing to clean his weapon, not caring that Ruby was there. He flicked up the sight on the Sticky Bomb launcher, setting the weapon down, satisfied.
The Slayer placed his rag behind his back, most likely in a pouch or pocket, but it didn't seem so. Behind his back appeared a cobalt light, which disappeared when he put away the rag. Ruby was confused, but today wasn't the day for answers. Today was initiation.
All of Beacon's first year students stood on a platform located on Beacon cliff before Professor Ozpin and Professor Goodwitch.
"For years, you have trained to become warriors, and today, your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest." Ozpin told the students.
"Now, I'm sure many of you have heard rumors about the assignment of "teams." Well, allow us to put an end to your confusion. Each of you will be given teammates… today." Goodwitch told the students.
"What? Ohhh…" Ruby quietly said.
"These teammates will be with you for the rest of your time here at Beacon, so it is in your best interest to be paired with someone with whom you can work well." Ozpin told the students, causing Ruby to groan. "That being said, the first person you make eye contact with after landing will be your partner for the next four years."
"What?" Ruby shouted, shocked.
"See? I told you!" Nora Valkyrie told Lie Ren.
"After you've partnered up, make your way to the northern end of the forest. You will meet opposition along the way. Do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path… or you will die." Ozpin told the students, causing Jaune to nervously laugh before gulping and the Doom Slayer to grin under his helmet at the words, 'destroy everything'. "You will be monitored and graded through the duration of your initiation, but our instructors will not intervene. You will find an abandoned temple at the end of the path containing several relics. Each pair must choose one and return to the top of the cliff. We will regard that item, as well as your standing, and grade you appropriately. Are there any questions?"
"Yeah, um, sir?" Jaune said, raising his hand.
"Good! Now take your positions."
Seconds later, the first platform, holding the Doom Slayer, rose up, revealing itself to be a springboard, and launched the Slayer off of the cliff and towards the Emerald Forest.
