Blood Betrayal

The White King: Chapter 1

"You are my Queen, now and always."

The words howl in his mind, the sound of the knife stings him to the core. He pauses for a moment, the winter winds are unforgiving, he was in the North now, the real North, beyond the great wall he had been exiled to. The sky was dark, the moon clouded, the howling winds unforgiving, biting, freezing him to the bone. He wraps his black cloak around himself, even tighter, pulling the black hood down over his thick bearded face, an unkempt hair, now peppered with frost. He stops and looks up to the sky, his only companion, padding along beside him, unphased by the cold stops at his heels, and cocks his head. His fur as white as the blizzard they walked through. The stars and moon were shrouded in cloud, the sky was dark, save for one light… the new light. A comet with a brilliant white tale had appeared, burning a path across the sky. Tormund and the Freefolk, had seen it as a blessing from the Gods, casting favour on their return beyond the wall. He was not so sure. He had seen the red comet that had made the sky bleed, that was the start of something… something that would take him from being a traitor's bastard in the Night's Watch, to riding a dragon against the dead… to killing his love… his blood. Bastard… Commander…. King… Kinslayer.

"Come on Boy." Jon Snow spoke to his oldest companion, his faithful ghost. They trudged along further, and further. Finally a cliff face came into view, the comet showed the slightest hint of an opening. Jon swallowed hard, and made for the opening with a purpose. Ghost's ears pricked up. "What is it?" Jon asked, trying to see despite the darkness. A form emerged casting a large shadow, it trotted out on four legs, huge. Jon instinctively reached for his sword, as Ghost stepped forward. A great feline beast, twice the Direwolf's size, fur just as white, marked with black stripes, two huge tusks glowed in the comet's light. The great beast let out a low growl, as Ghost barked back, and let out a long howl. Jon was transfixed, the creature's eyes, black pools, suddenly flashed a shade of purple. The beast looked to Jon, then to Ghost, and then silently moved aside, melting away into the snow.

Jon moved forward cautiously as Ghost let out a low growl at where the creature had been. Jon took one last look at the barren landscape before finally stepping into the opening in the cliff face. Reaching into his black furs he draws a flint, and takes a torch from his back, striking the flint against the rock, a spark caused the flame to take hold of the torch. Jon's eyes adjusted to the light as he followed a narrow passage into an opening, the passage opened up into a chamber, a hot spring heated a turquoise green pool with a slight waterfall, nestled in the rock.

Jon took his hood down and looked around, it had been a long time since he had been here. His mind wandered back to a flame haired beauty, kissed by fire. Why had he come here? He didn't know himself. "You know nothing Jon Snow," He said with a sad reached into a pouch on his belt, and threw some dried meat on the floor for Ghost. We'll stay here for now boy." He told the beast with a ruffle of his fur. Jon looked for a place to rest his torch, he knelt down and looked at his reflection in the hot pools water. He hardly recognised the man he saw, scarred, full beard, unkempt hair. "I never should have left this cave" He closed his eyes, when he opened them there was something else, a gleam in the water. He reached in, his hand found a jagged stone, he withdrew it from the water, a solid shiny black stone, with red specs, a bloodstone, he had learned about them years ago from Maester Luwin. He held the stone in his palm for a moment, before casting his gaze back to the pool.

His reflection was not alone this time, a shadowy figure stood above him, two gleaming blue eyes looking upon him… a blue he had seen before… and prayed to the Gods he would not see again. He pounced back to his feet, drawing longclaw as he did, his movement roused ghost to his feet as the wolf snarled. Jon held the sword at arms length and breathed heavily… he looked straight into the eyes of the strange form. Not blue as he had though, but purple… bright purple. He looked upon his new companion. She was a slight creature, delicate features, her hair a brilliant platinum, almost white, her skin seemed to be the same shade as snow, her lips barely distinguishable from the rest of her face. She was dressed in a heavy white cloak, over a long fur dress. Her cloak held in place by an Amethyst broach. Jon remained silent for a moment, he had not seen eyes like hers before, not just the shining purple, but the shape, he had heard the people of Yi Ti had this look about them. "And yet you did leave Jon Snow." Her voice was ethereal and song like, "And now the wheel has turned once more."
