Elsa for a Day

A/N: This is a fun two-shot idea I had. It's very different from what I usually write, but I hope you enjoy it just the same. This takes place before the events of Frozen II

It was very stressful being the queen of a kingdom. Every day was full of various duties that needed to be performed. Of course, Elsa always knew that this would be the case. Her whole life had been building up to the day when she would take the throne. Elsa cared about her people deeply, but there were days when she just wished she had a day off. Alas, rulers couldn't just get a day off whenever they were tired. The kingdom wasn't going to run itself. It was on that day when Elsa was finishing writing another letter. In the past hour, she had written at least thirty letters to various kingdoms. That was just the beginning, however. She had another fifty letters to respond too. And her schedule for tomorrow was even more busy than today. Just as she was finishing up writing another letter, the door to her study opened, and Anna walked in. Despite the stress that she was under, Elsa was delighted to see her sister.

"Hello, Anna! How are you today?"

"Great! Olaf and I were going to go for a walk in town square! Would you like to join us?"

Elsa sighed. "You know I would, but I have too much work to do. Not to mention, I have to get ready for tomorrow. I'm doing at least a dozen things."

"I see. Maybe you could take a break for a few hours. You know, take some time to relax?" Anna suggested.

"I wish I could, but I have to get all these letters mailed by today. These kingdoms are waiting for my response," Elsa explained.

"Elsa, I know that you're dedicated to your job, but even queens need a day off," Anna pointed out.

Elsa sighed again, bringing her hands to her head. "I would love a day off, but I can't just take one, because I'm tired. If there was some way, I could take some time off to relax, while all my work gets done, then I'd do it.

Anna thought about it for a minute. Soon, she got an idea. "What if I take over for you tomorrow? I'll go to all your meetings, write your letters, and anything else that you need to do."

Elsa smiled. "That's very sweet of you to offer, Anna, but these are things that the Queen of Arendelle needs to do. If anyone else could do it, then I'd gladly let you take over, but these are the queen's duties, so I need to do them."

Anna opened her mouth to argue, but one look at Elsa told her that it wasn't worth it. Elsa was pretty firm in her decision. As much as she admired Elsa for her dedication to her role as queen, sometimes Anna thought Elsa could be a little too stubborn.

"Well, I guess I'll leave you to it then," Anna said.

"Ok. I'm sorry, Anna."

"It's Ok. You do what you got to do. Olaf and I will have fun."

With that, Anna left Elsa's office to join Olaf for a day out in town square.

As they walked down the cobblestone streets, Anna explained Elsa's weariness with her job. She told him that Elsa needed a day off, but refused to do so, because she had responsibilities.

"If only there was someone for you to do Elsa's job without people knowing it's you," Olaf said.

Anna laughed. "Yeah, that would be nice."

Olaf looked to his right and saw a bunch of kids running over to him. Olaf loved spending time with the children, so one look at them made him want to go play with them.

"Hi guys!" Olaf greeted.

Anna smiled, watching as the kids crowded around Olaf, giving him the hugs that he loved so much.

"Anna, I think I'm going to be awhile," he said.

"That's fine, Olaf. I'll let you guys play together. I'll come by and pick you up later," Anna said.

Anna continuing walking down the street. When she saw a sign to a store that she had never seen before, she immediately grew curious. The sign read: Madame Lillian's Apothecary. Anna knew a little about what apothecaries did, but not much. She decided to go inside and see what they had for sale. Upon entering the shop, Anna was overwhelmed with the many different scents of medicines and herbs. All around her were bottles and bottles of medicines for various illnesses. Some of which she recognized, while others she didn't. As Anna looked at a shelf, which contained bottles of medicine used for sore throats, an old lady walked out from behind the counter.

"Why, hello there, my dear. How may I help you today?"

"Oh, I'm just looking. I'd never been inside your store before, so I thought I'd check it out."

"I see. Well, if there's anything you need, please let me know."

"Do you have anything for weariness?" Anna asked.

"Weariness? What do you mean, my dear?"

"Well, my sister, you know, Queen Elsa, she's been so overwhelmed with work recently that I thought that maybe you might have something that would give her more energy? You know, so that she doesn't feel as tired."

"Queen Elsa certainly must be under a lot of stress if you're looking for something that will give her more energy," the old lady said.

"Yes, she's very overwhelmed. I offered to take over for her for the day, but she said that only she can do the work, since she's the queen."

"I see," the old lady said. "I think I might have just the thing."

The Old Lady, who introduced herself as Madame Lillian, went into the back room of the shop. When she returned, she held a small bottle in her hand. She removed the cork from it and showed it to Anna. Inside the bottle was a light bluish liquid.

"What is it?" Anna asked.

"It's Duplicity X. An old family recipe."

"So…will this help Elsa have more energy?"

"Oh, no. This will make you become Elsa."

Anna was confused. "What do you mean by "become Elsa?"

"When you add one of Elsa's hair to this potion, and then drink it, you will be transformed into Elsa.

Anna's eyes widened. This was crazy! It was like something out of a fairy tale!

"That can't be possible. How can a potion turn me into Elsa? No offense, but that sounds too farfetched."

"Ah, but it can. The potion changes your body, so that you look exactly like the person whose hair is in the liquid, which in this case is Elsa."

Anna was still skeptical, not to mention shocked by all this, so she decided to ask Lillian more questions.

"If I'm transformed into Elsa, will I be like that forever?" Anna asked. To be honest, she was horrified of the possibility of looking exactly like Elsa for the rest of her life.

"Of course not. The potion wears off after twenty-four hours. But during that time, you'll not only look like your sister, but you'll sound like her as well."

"But what's the purpose of all this?" Anna asked.

"Well, you said that Elsa needed a day off, and Elsa said that only she could perform the tasks of the queen. With Duplicity X, you'll be able to do just that. You'll take over Elsa's job for the day, and no one will know the difference because they'll think it's Elsa instead of you."

This was all so incredible! A part of Anna still doubted Lillian's story, but she did know that magic did exist, so why not a potion that could transform someone into another person?

"Does it hurt?" Anna asked.

"Yes, it does unfortunately. Your body will be rearranged in places that are different from your own, so there will be some pain. The process does go very quickly though. In a minute or two, you'll look just like Elsa.

Anna stared at the bottle. If it was possible to transform into Elsa, and do her job for the day, and then change back once it was done, that would be the perfect solution. However, there was no way Elsa would ever agree to it. At least, she didn't think she would. But Anna would do anything for her sister. If she wanted her to have a day off, then this was the best solution for that.

"I'll take it," Anna said. "How much?"

"No charge, my dear. But do let me know how it all goes. I trust that you will make a fine queen for the day," Lillian said.

Anna took the bottle, running her hands over it. She thanked Lillian and left the shop. When she returned home that evening, she said nothing about her plan to Elsa. But once she was asleep, Anna snuck into her room, and retrieved one of her hairs from her brush. She dropped the hair into the bottle of Duplicity X and watched as it glowed brightly for a few seconds. She knew that this was the real deal.

When the morning came, Elsa went straight to her office to get started for the day. Anna got dressed herself, and picked up the bottle of Duplicity X, which was sitting on her dresser.

"Well, here it goes," she said. Anna drank the entire bottle of Duplicity X, which tasted horrible. Afterwards, she walked towards her mirror to watch the effects take hold.

The first thing Anna noticed was her hair turning light blonde. It cascaded down her shoulder Upon seeing this, Anna opened her mouth in shock. Suddenly, she felt a tingling sensation all over her body. At first it tickled, but then the pain shot through her like a bolt of lightning. Anna grabbed her stomach, hoping that the pain would soon go away. She watched as her waist caved in, her hips widened, giving her a curvy hourglass figure. The tingling sensation moved to her chest as her breasts doubled in size, and her rear end became rounder. As she looked into the mirror, Anna saw her facial features change. Her freckles disappeared, leaving her skin looking white and smooth. Within seconds, Anna was staring back her face, which looked just like Elsa's.

"It worked," she said in amazement. Anna put a hand over her mouth. She sounded exactly like Elsa. Taking a step back, Anna admired her transformation. She was the spitting image of Elsa! Running her hands over her curvy hips, Anna couldn't help but smile.

"Elsa sure is in for a surprise," Anna said.

A/N: Next chapter we'll see how Anna does as Elsa for the day. And of course, Elsa's reaction to her sister's transformation.
