Hello and welcome to a Little Nightmares fanfic idea I had... This is not my first time sharing something like this, but I want to see if I can make something enjoyable to read. With that said, enjoy! :)
A gentle breeze fell over the forest. Owls hooted, Bats cried, and the little boy shivered as he rubbed his hands together trying to retain the warmth that his jacket and bag mask provided for him. He had woken up in the forest a few hours ago, and had spent the last few hours wading his way throughout said forest.
The sun had gone down a few hours ago, but even though it was nighttime the forest wouldn't let him rest. Animals, traps, and quite a few interesting situations prevented him from getting rest, so he continued on his forced march. The time to himself did give him time to think on his situation though.
He knew a few things, for example he knew his name was Mono and he was 16 years old. He knew about the giant people and had some memories of his past... and that was it. He racked his head trying to trigger a memory, but all he managed to do was make himself dizzy. His head spun around and around, but he was able to glimpse a beam of light that shone through trees to his left.
It... called to him. And like a sailor to a siren's song he answered. He made his way through the gloomy forest, walking for a few minutes until he came upon a log cabin. Behind it he could see a few other buildings, but he couldn't make out what they were, as only the one light was on and shining in the direction he came from.
'Yep, sure, go into the spooky log cabin in the middle of the woods in the middle of the night. There's totally not going to be a Giant in there.' he thought to himself, doing a one-eighty degree turn. The forest behind him was silent, and true that's what a forest was supposed to be, but it unnerved Mono. Branches lightly rocked in the wind, like thin, oaken fingers calling him to his grave.
He looked back at the house and, after thinking on his options sighed, 'But isn't the spooky log cabin better than the spooky forest?' Weighing the pros and the cons, Mono realized that the forest was a pain so far and the worse thing about the house was the possibility it had someone in it. He sighed and started to walk towards the house.
He climbed up the steps, each one about as tall as his chest, and started to cross the wooden patio. He took a glance at the door, but he could tell he couldn't reach the knob to open it. Luckily to the left there was an open window, and even luckier, a box he could climb onto to reach said window.
He peeped to make sure none of the giant people were there, and once he was sure none were, hopped through the window. The room he, gracefully fell into, was a kitchen. Rotting food lay on elegantly unclean counter tops complimented by the sink full of unclean dishes and utensils. Despite the urge to gag, it reassured him that no one had entered this room in a long time.
He started to walk out the room, but stopped by the fridge. He hadn't eaten anything all day... and food did sound good right now. He started to pull on the bottom door and, surprisingly, it opened with a creak.
In that brief second he forgot that no one had been in this room in ages, and was lightly disheartened by the lack of food. Whatever deity existed in this world felt bad at the sight, a small bag of peanuts fell, and his mood was flipped around. He continued on his way, coming to a corridor. Suddenly, from a nearby room he heard a music box. Despite the tune, and the world he lived in, the tune didn't scare him in fact, it felt strangely...
Familiar.
He looked for the source and it was coming from the room directly in front of him. He looked in, and was greeted by a pair of stairs. He crept down them until he arrived into what looked to be a basement. The room was plain, bags of some fabric were thrown against walls with a stripped and ugly shade of green. Besides that he could see one door to the left - where the music was coming from, and one to the right.
Mono walked up to the door he could hear the tune from and peaked through a a series of cracks that were his level. The light in the room was provided by a window in the back the moonlight giving him just enough light to see someone in the middle of the room. Not one of those giant people, someone like him.
"Oh, hi!" he practically screamed at seeing someone like him. Even with the volume of the box, the person kept winding, stuck in some trance.
'They must be scared, I can't leave them here like that!' With that thought he started to search for something to free them with. He searched through the room with fabric and found nothing. Determined, he went to the door to the right and pushed on it. It opened to a room full of tools, one of which was an axe wedged into one of the walls. Mono picked up the axe, but with it being just as tall and about as heavy, he ended up dragging it as he walked back to the left door.
He swung the axe against the door, the small cracks in the door made perfect targets, wood splintering as he hit it. He heard the telltale sound of little feet against the rickety floor combined with the music box's tune- or rather the lack of it. He swung again, and again, and again, until finally the bottom part of the door shattered.
He dropped the axe and crept his way inside. He took a look around the room, a room that was large by their standards. There were dozens of tally marks and drawings on the walls, some tools, and, most interestingly, no food or water.
He looked for his target and found them hiding under a table, only able to make them out because 1) there were only so many hiding places in the room and 2) they kept shifting. He sighed and started to approach them in his best non-aggressive manner.
"Hi I'm Mono. What's your name?" He tried, but instead of an answer all they did was sink further back into the darkness of the table.
"I'm not here to hurt you." That seemed to get their attention, their momentum reversing as they started to come out. "I've... never seen anyone like me before, and it doesn't look like you want to be here." He made a gesture to the room, "So I just want to help you."
As Mono was talking, they was slowly coming out from under the table, and now she was properly visible. He wasn't sure before, lighting be blamed, but he could clearly see that the 'person' was a fair skinned girl, with a black hair that covered their eyes 'Just like mine.' Seeing the progress did give him hope and he continued his coaxing.
"We don't have to stay together if that's not what you want." He stretched a hand out. She was close enough that she could do the same and reach his. Instead, she froze, but Mono pressed on.
"Even if we're only together long enough to escape here, we can work together until then, maybe we could even be friends... " He trailed off, realizing that his words weren't working, when suddenly a light bulb went off in his head. "How about, we're two kids in this world why don't we call ourselves equals... how does that sound?"
His brief strategy switch seemed to work, she reached out her left arm, gripped his and nodded.
And that's the first chapter of this lil' story of mine. Hope you enjoyed reading it! (Also if you do wanna leave a review do that!)
