Welcome to my first Calzona Story! I have been thinking about the premise of this story for quite some time and I decided to finally put it out there. This shall be an interesting ride and I hope you all enjoy the journey! I will do my best to upload as frequently as I can. Let me know what you think so far
"Dr. Torres, you're needed in trauma 1". The tall older black man stood off to the side of the OR holding a mask in front of his face, trying to shield not the sterile room from her germs but the worry that he was feeling deep inside.
"Webber, are you serious? I'm in the middle of a knee arthroscopy". Even with all of her surgical PPE you could still see the confusion and disapproval is Callie Torres's eyes. "This isn't a request Torres. Dr. Carlson is scrubbing in. You have been requested. And there's not a lot of time to waste. Scrub out!" The chief of surgery demanded as he turned and walked out of the room.
As Callie followed the chief towards the pit, she was almost enraged. The OR was her sanctuary, it was where she felt free, relaxed, and the most like herself. For the past seven months her and her wife have been going head to head with each other every time she was close. Erica Hahn had a way of making the beautiful Latina feel as though love just wasn't something that was meant for her. That she was just destined for failed romances. But for some reason she still wanted to fight for her marriage. At one point they were in love and everything was great. She sacrificed her family after her parents disowned her for being gay. She needed the relationship to be worth it. But in the meantime, her life was hell, so being pulled out of the one place that brought her comport wasn't making her day any better.
Before Callie could even speak, Chief Webber gave her the full rundown on the patient that she was about to see. "A plane crash? She was in a plane crash and lived? And she requested for me?" Callie was practically in shock as she increased her pace towards the emergency room.
"They flew her in from Boise. Her and five other doctors were on the plane only her and one other made it but he's being treated out there. Her leg is practically severed above the knee and Boise wanted to amputate. She said that she looked you up and knew that you were the best. She demanded to get airdropped here".
"She demanded? And they actually listened? Who is she?"
"She's a big shot Peds surgeon from Oregon. I was trying to convince her to transfer here last year but she turned down the offer. I'm warning you now Torres. It doesn't look good. She could possibly go septic soon. I'm not sure what type of miracles you could work but don't give her any false hope". Webber left her to it as one of the residents handed her the patient's X Rays.
Callie walked into the room staring at the x rays intently. "Dr. Robbins. I'm Dr. Torres, chief of Ortho..." Before Callie could even finish, she was interrupted. "Arizona. You can call me Arizona. it's no big deal". Callie looked up to the sound from the pained yet sweet voice. In front of her she saw a beautiful blonde woman that was still covered in dirt, cuts, and bruises. Her blue eyes looked as if she just been through hell but was trying to hold on to the last bit of hope she had as she stared at the surgeon.
"Hey. You worked your butt off for that title. It is very much a big deal. So is this leg". Callie hung up the images as she moved closer to the actual leg for a better look. She first looked at the blonde who looked as if she hadn't slept in days. "The stuff they gave you for the pain, is it helping?" Callie asked as she assessed Arizona a bit closer.
"Yeah. I just. I just…I'm tired. Please, Dr. Torres please save my leg". Callie glanced over at the x-rays and back to the woman's cyanotic leg. She wasn't sure how she was going to keep this leg but she sure as hell was going to try.
"I can't say that losing your leg isn't an option. But I will make sure it's my last option, okay?" Callie sweetly placed her hand lightly on Arizona's shoulder as she tried to give the woman a reassuring smile.
Arizona was too overwhelmed with her reality that she couldn't muster up a response, as she simply nodded her head. Dr. Torres was her only hope. She was grateful that she survived, but there was part of her that almost gave up out there. Furthermore, she needed her leg. She was in the public eye so frequently, and she had patients. Who would want a broken therapist operating on their child? What child wouldn't be afraid of her? Also, she had her fair share of romantic fun, but would she now find anyone that will actually love her.
Callie could see that Arizona's mind was drifting. She also could see that she needed to work fast. "Some of my residents are going to come in and treat some of these minor scratches and bruises and make sure that you are stable enough for surgery. Your tendons and fragments are almost completely severed but I am going to try to reconnect them. If we can get everything connected and proper circulation running, then my hope is we can work on mobility".
"Okay", Arizona said slightly above a whisper. Her hope was depleting fast.
