A/n: Hello to any one reading this. This is a short drabble about Marlene and Lily's friendship. I would have loved to have written more but since it was a drabble couldn't. Anyway hope you enjoy this. Also this takes place in fifth year and Lily's birthday is January 30th. If there are any mistakes I may have overlooked please let me know so that I may correct them.

Marlene looked around the common room trying to find her best friend but she was nowhere to be seen. She stopped a third year and asked him about the last time he saw Lily Evans. "Last I saw her she was running up the girl's dormitory staircase after reading a letter or something." That was all the confirmation she needed and made her way to grab two bottles of butterbeer that the marauders had somehow snuck in before heading up to her dormitory.

There was only one person whose letter could hurt Lily like that and that person was Petunia Evans. She opened the door and saw Lily in the corner of the room sitting on the floor with her head between her legs and a letter clenched in her hand. Marlene then wordlessly joined her on the floor "Do you want to tell me about it?" Lily didn't answer and simply handed over the letter to her.

Lily,

I am getting married to Vernon next year. I am writing to tell you that if I had my way you wouldn't be invited at all but mum says I have to. Vernon's sister will stay here this summer and doesn't know about your freakishness, so don't do anything. Actually don't come at all.

Petunia

Honestly Marlene was not surprised at all. All in all, this letter was mild compared to some of the ones she sent earlier. It was one thing for sisters to fight but this was a whole other level. Marlene would have hexed Petunia by now if Lily had not stopped her. "Oh Lils, I am so sorry" she then pulled her into a hug.

"It's not just Tuney Marls, I am just so tired of it all. I am tired of people calling me a mudblood and treating me like trash, of Snape trying to apologize, but most of all I am tired of fighting with Petunia"

"I wish I could do something to fix that Lils" They sat in silence for a couple of minutes before Marlene stood up. "Come on Lil, think of it this way Petunia is marrying Vermin. Can you imagine what that would look like" She could see Lily smile slightly.

"Now repeat after me 'Silencio Petunia for we do not care about you'"

"Really Marls?"

"Just do it"

"Ok fine, 'Silencio Petunia for we do not care about you'"

"Good, now get up and let's go downstairs. There's no way I am letting Petunia ruin your sixteenth birthday party." Lily rolled her eyes and smiled at her best friend before taking her hand to get up. They then made their way downstairs to see Sirius singing a very out of tune version of back in black while Peter, Remus and James tried to take the mic away from him. The scene sent both her and Lily into fits of laughter.

"You were right Marls this is so much better than sulking upstairs"

"Told you, Happy Birthday Lily"

She then dragged Lily to the dance floor. The letter and bottles of buterbeer lay forgotten for now.
