Chapter One
I blinked open my eyes. All I could see was darkness, and the occasional odd flashing light. I could hear creaking gears and could feel myself moving in an upward direction. I felt around the dark to see what I was in. I found that I was sitting on a hard metal grate. I stood up to move around and I hit my head on something hard. A trickle of blood ran down my temple. Crap. I felt around for the object so I could glare at it, even though I couldn't see it. I found that it was a tall stack of wooden boxes of sorts. Interesting. Then a word echoed through my mind. Ivy. Isn't that a plant? Wait, it could be a girl's name too. It must be mine. I thought. I realize I can't remember anything else and I start to freak out.
All of a sudden, the lift I was on screeched to a stop. There was a loud clanging noise and a bright light followed, to which I immediately closed my eyes and ducked my head. I can't remember anything, I got a cut on my head, and now I'm blinded. What a great start to this day. I thought sarcastically to myself. I heard male voices and slowly looked up to where they were coming from. Still adjusting to the light, I saw shadows which I thought could be human bodies. At least I hope they are human. I shivered at the thought of being with aliens. I brought my head back down. The voices kept talking and I started to panic. I felt lightheaded. What's going on? What am I doing here and why do I not remember anything? Just as my eyes adjusted to the light, I felt someone jump down into the lift I was in.
"Hey there greenie. Welcome to the Glade." an accented voice said.
I looked up and found a pair of wide brown eyes on me.
"Bloody hell, it's a girl!" said the brown eyed boy, with a look between horror and surprise on his face. Lots of other voices started showering around me.
"A girl?"
"Is she hot?"
"I call dibs!"
I felt even more lightheaded as the brown eyed boy helped me stand up. I could see that the lift we're in is a box with lots of crates in it. There was a rope hanging down from one side, and the brown eyed boy motioned to it.
"Can you climb up the rope?" he asked.
I nodded, and started to climb up. I took in my surroundings as I came up and over the edge. There were about forty or so boys surrounding the box on all sides. They were all in their teen years, by the looks of it. I took notice that there were no girls around. A dark skinned boy who looked slightly older than the rest stepped forward.
"The name's Alby, greenie. Welcome to the Glade." he said. He looked grim as he spoke, but his voice was soft and sounded sincere.
I took a look around and noticed we were in a large open area, the glade as Alby and the brown eyed boy called it. It was surrounded by giant concrete walls. All the panic that had changed to surprise when I got out of the box set in again, and I felt my breathing pick up speed. I felt lightheaded again.
"Is she okay? She looks like she's gonna faint!" I heard a voice say. Too late, I had already slipped into darkness.

I blinked my eyes and took in my surroundings as I sat up. I was in a bed. Well, bed was an understatement. It was pretty much an elevated wooden board with a cot and some sheets on it. The bed was in a large-ish room with two other beds lined up next to it. The room had a cabinet on one wall full of medical supplies, so it must be a makeshift hospital. My eyes fell on some boys standing in a corner. My memory of what happened came flooding back to me. I saw the boy named Alby and the brown eyed boy talking with two other boys. The brown eyed boy was taller than the rest and had dirty blonde hair. He must've noticed me looking because he said something to the others and they all came over.
"Hey there greenie. How are you feeling?" asked Alby.
"I'm feeling good I guess. What happened?" I said. The brown eyed boy spoke this time.
"Well. grenie, after we got you out of the box, you fainted. So, we took you here to get you patched up." he said. Wow, he has a really cute accent. "You had a bit of a scratch." he finished.
"Scratch is an understatement." one of the other boys said. "We had to give you stitches, it was pretty deep." I blanched.
"It's okay though, it wasn't life threatening. I'm Newt and this is Clint," the boy who said I had to get stitches waved at me, "and his assistant Jeff." said the brown eyed boy. Jeff also gave little wave.
I had a thousand questions running through my mind and it made my head hurt, so I decided to ask them.
"Where am I, why am I here, why are there all those walls outside, and why can't I remember anything?" I took a deep breath, ready to keep asking. "Who are you all and why are there-"
"Woah there greenie." said Alby. "You'll get the answers to your questions soon enough. Let's start off with one question. What is your name? Can you remember it?"
I racked my mind back to when I was in the box thingy. Ivy. It was the one thing I remembered.
"Ivy, my name is Ivy." I replied.
"It's nice to meet you Ivy. It's already late so Newt will give you the tour in the morning. Why don't you sleep in here tonight." said Alby calmly. He seemed like a leader here.
"Okay, but can I have something to eat? I'm starving!"
Newt laughed. "She is gonna get along well with everyone, especially Minho I think! That slinthead loves his food!" The other boys laughed too. Slinthead, what type of word is that?
"Who the heck is Minho?" I asked.
"You'll meet him and everyone else tomorrow. For now get some rest." Alby replied. "Clint will bring you something to eat in a few minutes, good that?" He walked out of the room and everyone else followed. Good that? What is with these people's words?
Clint came back with a bowl of soup and started to spoon feed it to me. I snatched the spoon away.
"I can feed myself, I am not a invalid." I said saucily. He chuckled.
"It looks like you're gonna get along with Minho better than we thought." he mused. He waited till I finished the soup then took the bowl and told me to sleep. My eyes were already droopy so I gave in to the tiredness and had a peaceful, dreamless sleep.
