Meet the Royal Family of Enchancia Queen Rosella (King Rolland) and her twins Prince Onyx and Princess Jane. Meanwhile in the village of Dunwiddie a cobbler named Marcus (Miranda) was living with his son Skyler. Now Queen Rosella and Marcus have gotten married and now Skyler has to adjust to royal life and Onyx and Jane to a younger brother joining the family. In this story Onyx and Jane (Amber and James) are 17 and Skyler (Sofia) is 16.
Chapter 1:
(Skyler POV)
I watched as they packed up my entire life to move my Dad and I to the palace. I looked out the window and saw the carriage being loaded. "Skye, it is time to go," I heard Dad calling for me. I watched as the other people who were packing up my home left and I went over to my bed, old bed, and took out a box from underneath. It was filled with the few items I had left from Mom.
I took out a necklace that she had left to me with her wedding band on it, she told me it was her good luck charm and would look over me while she was gone. Dad gave me his a while back too and I had both on the chain. "Skyler," I heard Dad call me again, "Coming." I tucked the rings into my shirt and held the box under my arm and brought it to the carriage.
I joined Dad in the carriage and watched as they finished loading up a carriage behind us with our lives packed up. I waved to my friends as we pulled away and I slouched down in my seat as I waited for us to arrive. Dad started talking to me, "Well isn't this exciting, we are almost at the palace." I nodded my head, "Yeah I wonder what our room is going to be like." I quietly said still not making eye contact with anyone in the carriage, "Actually now that we are going to live in the palace we are going to have our own rooms." I gave him a small smiled, "Can't wait." I looked away again. I felt a hand on top of mine, "Skye this going to be good I promise." "I know," I said nodding my head. I didn't know if I believed it yet but, it seemed like what he needed to hear.
We arrived at the castle and a whole precession was waiting for us. Dad walked down first and met up with his new wife, Queen Rosella and I saw my two step siblings waiting for me. I got out of the carriage and looked down to see that my clothes had been changed due to some type of magic. I took a breath as I saw everyone bowing in front of me and went into a deep bow before approaching my new family where Dad was. I couldn't help but feel like an outsider in that moment.
I bowed again, "Hello Queen Rosella." She smiled at me, "Please call me Rosella or Rose." I nodded my head I then walked over to my new step-siblings. I went into a bow again, "It is nice to meet you Onyx and Jane. I'm excited to get to know you both." Jane gave me a warm smile but, Onyx crossed his arms, "That is Prince Onyx." I nodded my head, "Of course, my apologies." Onyx walked away and Jane wrapped her arm around mine, "Don't mind Onyx, he is slow-to-warmup. I can show you around. I nodded my head and thanked her as she guided me through the palace.
(Jane POV)
As I guided Skyler through the castle I noticed how quiet he was. He would make polite conversation but, he wasn't saying anything more than he needed to. Soon enough we reached his room, "This was Onyx's room a few years back, but they repainted the room and brought in new furniture." He turned back to face me, "Thank you for showing me around, I'll be down for dinner soon enough I just want to unpack and settle a little first." I nodded my head, "Yeah, of course. If you need help finding the dinning hall ring the bell for the maid to come." He nodded his head and I left the room.
"Why are you wasting your time?" I turned and saw Onyx waiting for me. "What do you mean Onyx?" He came closer, "Why are you wasting your time with this new guy?" "You mean our brother," "Step-brother..." Onyx interrupted. I cocked my head to the side, "Same difference. Look Mom seems happy and Marcus seem cool. Promise me you are going to give it a chance." He rolled his eyes in the back of my head and I shoved his arm, "Promise me." He rolled his eyes, "Alright, I'll try." I ran into Onyx's arms for a hug, "Thank you." He wrapped his arms around me, "Yeah, I have to look out for my little sister." "By seven minutes," I quickly quipped back. Onyx laughed, "Best seven minutes of my life." I shoved him and he shoved me and I shoved him back.
Onyx then straightened his back, "Now off you go to do whatever Enchancian princesses are supposed to be doing and I will see you at dinner." I rolled my eyes at the comment. Onyx was a very traditional prince and wanted me to be a traditional princess and I wasn't and this drove him crazy. Still I walked off to my room trying not to cause more drama. Something told me that this promise was going to be harder than it seemed to be.
(Skyler POV)
I sat on the edge of the bed and pulled out the rings. I grazed my finger over my Mom's ring. I knew that there was nothing I could do but, I missed her. When I was four years old she had gone out to meet some family in a neighboring kingdom and they were shipwrecked and she never made it back home. "Nice rings," I quickly snapped my head to the side and saw Onyx in the room leaning up against the wall.
I tucked the rings back into my shirt before snapping my head back again, "Prince Onyx." He came closer, "Look I promised Jane I would be civil but, we are both going to be going to the same school and I figured we should probably have some ground rules." I nodded my head just wanting to be alone for a minute, "Alright, I think it would be best if we just stayed out of each other's ways. You do your thing and I will do mine." I nodded my head, "Alright, agreed." He nodded his head and left my room, but he stopped before leaving, "You'll be fine tomorrow, but I'd hide the necklace more carefully. People are nosier than I am." I watched as he left the room.
I was eventually called to dinner and saw as Dad sat next to Queen Rosella who was at the head of the table. Onyx and Jane were across from us and I was next to Dad. I felt Onyx's eyes on us, Dad and I, I felt as if he was looking for us to make a mistake and I just wanted to be back in the village. "Skyler," I turned my attention to the Queen, "Sorry your majesty, what were you saying?" She laughed it off, "It is alright, I am sure your head is just spinning with all the recent changes. I was just about to tell you about the Ball." "The Ball?" I asked as nerves came over me. "Yes as each member enters the family there is always a large celebration to show this to everyone. For your Father it was the wedding and for you there is going to be a Ball." I looked down at my plate, "Do we need to have the Ball?" She nodded her head, "Don't worry, you will learn all you need to know at Royal Prep." I just kept picking at my food but I felt Dad rubbing his hand on my shoulder, "It's going to be alright Skye." He whispered and I nodded continuing to finish my dinner before excusing myself and retreating to my room.
A Ball. Seriously. I hadn't signed up for any of this. I hadn't signed up to become a Prince and be adopted by the Queen. I hadn't signed up to be shipped away from the village. My entire life changed overnight and now I was being expected to dive headfirst into a world I didn't know anything about. Still, I hadn't seen Dad this happy in years and Jane and Queen Rosella seem nice. I was just going to have to smile through it. I was not going to cause any waves or create any problems.
I tried to sleep on my new bed but, to no avail. I went over to the window seat. I kept my eyes on the horizon and closed my eyes.I held back onto the rings again. Sometimes as I held onto them I tried to remember her voice, her face, anything really but, nothing came to mind. That was my other biggest fear that this new family might cause me to forget my old one.
