OKAY, TO ANYONE READING, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND CHECKING OUT "UNIVERSE FALLS" BY MINIJEN BEFORE READING AS THIS IS AN AU OF HER STORY. IF YOU HAVEN'T, WHAT'RE YOU DOING HERE YOU NEED TO GO READ IT NOW, JUST SAVE THIS FOR LATER.

Okay, now that the important stuff is out of the way, as you can probably tell, this is going to be a fanfiction based off a fanfiction, if that makes sense. 'Universe Falls', by MiniJen is a fanfic crossover between, if you couldn't tell, 'Gravity Falls', by Alex Hirsch, and 'Steven Universe', by Rebecca Sugar. This is based off an AU created for that crossover, I will link the post in which the original idea was posted on MiniJen's blog in order to avoid a lot of confusion with me trying to explain it. Final thing, if you ask questions in the reviews, I will try to answer them in the next chapter, until there just gets to be too many. Alright, I think thats everything I needed to mention.

Also yes, I did ask MiniJen for permission, if she said no, then you probably shouldn't be reading this. Without further ado, let's get along with the prologue.

(Caesar Cipher for the code btw.)

She was gone… they were gone, and all that remained were their twin newborn children. Not that it made the remaining three feel any better. All three of the gems were confused and had no idea what to do. Especially considering both the newborns wouldn't stop crying. They had known Garnet was pregnant, but they didn't expect this to be the outcome.

Both the babies had the gems of the now gone leader embedded in their hands, one was a girl, her right palm occupied by the red gem that had used to belong to Ruby, the other a boy, whose left palm was home to the blue gem that had belonged to Sapphire.

Someone needed to take care of the children, but the father was unknown, only Garnet had known, but she was now gone. None of the three gems knew how to take care of human babies, but regardless of that fact, they were the ones who had to take care of them.

The pink gem stepped forward and reached down slowly, and picked up the two tiny children from the sandy beach they were laying on. She did so slowly, as not to surprise them, and carefully, as not to risk hurting them. She had known the names of the two, Garnet had told her before she left. As she looked to the small girl in her right arm, she said her name, "Mabel," her voice came out soft, almost as if she were the mother herself, she looked to the other one and said his name, "Mason," she had started to tear up as she continued, "you are both, absolutely wonderful." She let out a light sob at this point, but still held the twins in her arms, as she turned around to face the other gems. "Garnet is…" she had started, she was struggling to finish, but knew she had to continue, "Garnet is gone." she said finally, her tears had begun falling off her cheeks at this point, landing on the heads of each of the twins. "But we must persevere." she had said.

The white gem standing in front of her stood there still, in disbelief, unsure of how they would continue, without their fearful leader, who were they anymore, could they even still be considered the Crystal Gems?

The shorter purple gem was also there, she wanted to be happy for Garnet and the twins, but all she could feel at that moment was anger. Fists clenched and eyes watering, she turned around and ran to the temple they called home as fast as she could.

"Amethyst wait!" The pink gem called out, but she couldn't reach out to her upset comrade, or chase her without risking harm to the children. She could only watch as the shorter purple gen ran back to the stone temple they called home.

"So…" the pale gem started, "what now?" she asked.

"The only thing we can do, Pearl." Rose had started, still crying but in a more controlled manner. "We're gonna raise these two as our own." she had continued. She knew raising the children was going to be difficult, but she had no choice, without the father to take responsibility, they were the only ones who could. "They will know how much of a hero their mother was, or mothers rather, and we'll train them, they'll be great just like them." Rose had closed her eyes and pictured what it was like when they had saved her that fateful day, tears were still streaming down her face, most of which hit the sandy beach, but a few stray ones landed on the twins, who had stopped crying, as they were comforted by the motherly gem. "We shouldn't push them too hard however, and we should wait to do that till they're older. Let them enjoy their lives."

She looked out to the sunset far over the horizon, as she sat down on the beach to watch the array of colors around it shift until the sun had fully set. Pearl was still silent, as she sat down next to the Rose Quartz that she had known for centuries. Tears began to fall from her cheeks as well, as she gestured to the young boy in the larger gems arm.

As she gently held the young boy in her arms, she let the tears begin to fall fully as she thought of the gem that was Sapphire, and how her gem now rested in the small boy's hand. She thought about how difficult the next few months would be without the leadership of their devoted commander, and what they were gonna do now that they were down a member, their strongest one at that.

Several minutes passed as they watched the sunset, it was almost done, and the sky was almost entirely a deep dark shade of blue. The silence was finally broken, when Pearl said what had been in her mind for a little while. "We need to decide on who will lead us…" she trailed off. She didn't want Garnet to be replaced, she didn't like that idea one bit, but she knew it was a job that had to get done. "Amethyst, she's too impulsive… I don't think she'd make a good leader." Pearl continued. "I wouldn't be a very good option either, I'm not good at leading, I've always been a follower, even after I rebelled… with you… and her." Pearl started to think of the time when the now gone leader saved her and the pink gem all that time ago, and a small sob escaped her breath as tears continued to escape her crystal blue eyes. "You're obviously the best option." She continued, obviously trying to think logically in the emotional situation.

"You may say that…" Rose paused to think for a moment before continuing, "but I don't believe I'd be the best fit either." She stopped to rock Mabel, who was beginning to stir in her arms. "I actually believe you to be the best fit. You're so logical and can always think of the correct thing to do. It only makes since for you to be the leader."

The white gem heard this and looked at her ally confused, after thinking for a moment, she let out a small smile and sniffled before speaking again, "Are you kidding? No matter what you always seem to be the bigger gem, just now was the perfect example!" Pearl said clearly exasperated. "You're always able to put others before yourself, even when you want things to go a certain way, you still think of others before you do them or make decisions."

"Pearl's right…" someone said suddenly from behind them. It was Amethyst, she had gotten it all out and came back after she didn't find anyone, "Rose… you should be the new leader. You've always been the one I looked up to, you know?" The purple gem let out a small smile and chuckled a little. "Aside from Garnet that is."

Rose smiled softly at this. "Well then, I guess we've gotten it all figured out… don't we?" She looked back down at the baby girl in her arms, she was awake, and looking up at Rose, and she smiled when the pink gem had looked down at her. Rose looked into the babies eyes, she took notice of her eyes, they were the exact same shade of maroon as Ruby's were. She stared into those deep dark eyes and wondered, if their mother had known this would happen. She did have the ability to see the many future possibilities. Did she know she would have to give up her form? Did she know Rose would become the new leader? Finally, did she know, things were going to end the way they did? If so, why didn't she warn them, she had always been the silent type, but if something big was going to happen, she would've told them. Lastly, she wondered if the now deceased Ruby and Sapphire could still see through their children's eyes, and if so, what are the thoughts going through their heads right now.

"Mabel," she said solemnly, "and Mason… what wonderful names she gave you… I wonder, what would she have said, given the chance to meet you both, Mabel and Mason Garnet."

Alright, listen here, I know this was pretty short, but honestly for a prologue there's not much you can do. I just thought it would be interesting to see how the gems reacted to finding Mabel and Dipper. I tried to stay on point with their canon characters but I'm probably a bit off seeing as this is my first time writing for them, so I'm still trying to figure everything out.ANYWAYS! If you haven't checked out Universe Falls by MiniJen on THIS VERY WEBSITE, I highly recommend you do because there is so much to see there, honestly it's amazing. Jen if you're reading this, um, just, thanks for taking the time to read it I guess. All that being said I dont think I need to mention anything else so have a good day/night, and I guess I'll see you in the next chapter.(Don't forget you can ask me questions in the reviews, okay, I'm done.)Good day/night, see you next time.
