Yo as you can probably see i desperately need a beta reader, you can tell I'm not a native english speaker.

so anyone willing to help would be really appreciated.

anyways here's da story, the plan for now is for me to publish a chapter every day. most chapters won't look like that one tho, this is like a prologue?

i don't know exactly where I am going with this plot yet but be warned that i mixed up the ages a bit because I don't like that everyone is 17 in the show.

disclaimer: just like people romanticize the mafia in their stories without condoning it irl, i don't really support the military or the police :D

enjoy-

A newborn baby gets dumped into an orphanage. It's given an name, and clothes, and food, and some kind of education later on. The kid grows up like the other kids. At sixteen the kid, like most of the others, enrolls in the army because the army is the only one paying attention to them. It's the only chance at anything given to them for those who don't get adopted, which is most of them.

As poc orphans who wouldn't be looked for if they were to die in weird ways, these kind of kids get sent on missions where stuff seems wrong.

Most of the time that means supernatural shit.

So yeah, no long life expectancy here. The money isn't bad though. And those who do survive get to meet pretty cool people on the job.

But anyways, let's go back to the orphanage for a sec, for more details or whatever.

That one orphanage in San Francisco is called Greyhound institute. That's where on the 14th of February 1983 at 5am is dumped another nameless newborn baby. It's got honey colored almond eyes and tanned skin with moles here and there. It looks asian-ish but also not??

There's no note with the kid so the staff has to name it.

They check quickly and it's female.

Can't call her Valentina because there is already a Valentina here who's only two years older than this chub.

So they go with Sam cuz why not.

Sam Grey then.

The child grows up. She's not smarter than the others, she's not stronger than the others, she's not more charismatic than the others.

Not an art genius, not an incredible beauty. Doesn't have a mysterious birth mark that would link her to forgotten royalty.

It's just a normal kid that grows up just like the others and on the 14th of February 1999, Sam Grey joins the military just like the other orphans at her age. Sergeant Braeden Grey, although five years her senior, recognizes her face from the orphanage and takes her in her team immediately. She knows that the orphans are better soldiers than the rest because they have nothing to lose.

Quick training, then they get to work.

The team, most of the time, has four people in it. Braeden as the head, Thomas Kinkaid as her second. Then Sam and finally some normal blond white dude called Camden(no one really knows what he's doing here but he works good.)

They go on missions, mostly domestic ones. They see stuff. Lots of very different things. Beautiful places. Nightclubs. Bloody crime scenes. Cool hotels. Wendigos. Sport matches. Harpies.. Soon enough the team finds out that Thomas is a werewolf because he sucks ass at keeping secrets. Braeden knew from the start. Sam takes it well. Camden a lot less but he manages(seriously what is this kid doing here instead of having a normal life?). They go across America, follow -70% of the times- their orders.

On a mission they meet the Calaveras. On another they meet the Ito pack. On another they meet the skin walkers. On several occasions they meet people from the Argent's- both for their hunter gig and their weapon commerce. One time they go to Camden's hometown to vibe check some "health institute" that is really a supernatural prison. Camden is over the moon and quickly goes visit his dad and little brother while the three others check on said institute (not a good experience but they definitely learn a lot).

This goes on for a few years. They deal with a lot of different things, go mission after mission, meet a lot of different people and somehow survive and become stronger. The team is stable, they can handle a lot and they are a good asset to the forces. They also care about each other.

Then Camden gets shot in the head and dies on the spot.

And yeah they're shaken and all that but for one: they almost die on the job all the time and for two: Camden has a savior complex the size of Kinkaid's forehead. So, yeah, not a huge surprise.

Still a fucking bummer though.

worst than that: he gets replaced immediately by some new normal blond white kid with a savior complex.

Like seriously, where do all these captain americas come from?

Kinkaid dislikes him the most, no one really knows why, least of all Kinkaid apparently.

But whatever, they cope anyway. Things aren't the same though.

No matter that Camden had the cognitive capacity of a peanut and an ego that only straight white men can have, he was their himbo mascot and they all loved him. so they decide to leave soon, they saved enough money over the years anyways.

They don't leave at the same time and they go different ways but they know where the others are and what they're up to.

Braeden leaves first, she goes on a holiday in Canada and does Mercenary work for their old contacts from time to time.

Kinkaid follows soon after. He becomes a bodyguard for Silver Finger, another contact of theirs met on a mission.

Sam stays a while and takes the new Steve Rogers ("please stop calling me that my name is Jordan Parrish") under her wing.

They hit it off surprisingly good, the dude is chill. When he learns about the supernatural stuff(Sam had a lot of fun waiting until the worst moment to let him know) he processes it just like that.

When Sam leaves a year and a half after they met, they keep in touch too.

Two dogtags around her neck, Sam Grey moves to Camden Lahey's hometown on a whim.
