Hello all!
I'm back with another sneak peak!
I know... I know, I should get back to writing my current stories, but I keep having these things called ideas and they wont go away, the hop over the fence I call concentration and nibble up all my inspiration. so I lay a trap for them and I write them down before they leave me.
anywho, I'm crazy as you can tell. and my mind will never see Sharkticon Megatron from the TFP toyline as anything other than Unicron Megatron, they are literally the same color. and it bothers me how they're considered two different things. so that then got me going about Sharkticons and just like in SC how I had to write down my OCs... well lets say thinking of Sharkticons led me to create some...
anyway, this chapter is short, but it has the most Footnote's I've ever had in a single chapter.
so... enjoy the info dump.
Chapter 1- "the feast begins"
(Thrasher)
I watched the massive carcass drop towards the waves, it had a distinct orangy-red glow to it, one similar to the hot dust spitters(1) far down below.
I swam circles around the massive shape that was coming down. It got bigger as it approached, until it was bigger than I was, and I was no runt!
It finally crashed into the choppy waters and began to sink. And I sank with it, curious whether it was food or not. Eventually the massive carcass caught the attention of other sharks, A very large wide-snout(2), a Blue(3), a speeder(4), and a serrated snout(5), and myself as the heavy-fin(6). Along with many other species. However we were the only ones brave enough (or stupid enough) to follow the carcass as it descended even further(7). It settled on the seafloor, where all the bottom feeders fed. It landed atop of rock. And was almost instantly swarmed upon by crabs and bottom feeders, many of the sharks went in, but there were those of us who just couldn't get past the feeding frenzy, so we swam lazy circles around it waiting for an opening, I passed the wide-snout(2), the speeder(4), the serrated snout(5) and the blue(3) several times. But there was also a twisty shark(8), latcher(9), and pointy-snouted shark(10). Each of whom seemed unable to get through the frenzy to get any food themselves. Suddenly the energy(11), or lack of energy around the carcass changed. And all the sharks that had had their fill had fled. The only ones who remained were those who never got even a bite.
Suddenly a new glow erupted from the carcass a strange color, one only a colored super-puncher(12) should be able to see, and it washed over us. We heard a voice but couldn't discern its intention or its meaning, only that it was angry. And with the glow we realized the carcass wasn't a carcass at all, but it was a shiny hard shell. Like the things above. That's probably why many of the sharks lost interest after a short while. However, something was currently holding our attention. And our bodies were being changed. I felt different, I felt stronger and thicker and lighter.
Suddenly before our eyes the carcass stood up upon two legs, like some of the bottom feeders, but this one, it's legs were much larger and much thicker. It also had claws like the bottom feeders, but it had two and then another half on both of its upper limbs. It was also covered in defensive spikes. Then it seemed to converse with itself in a language unknown to us, paying us no mind. Until eventually it changed shape altogether and swam up at incredible speeds and disappeared. We had watched this altercation go on for long enough for all of us to have died from a lack of oxygen. But somehow, regardless of the pressure and our motionless, trance-like state we survived.(13)
Ok... geez here we go.
many of these are what I've named a species or object in a Shark's mind, just letting you know.
(1) 'hot dust spitters' refers to a undersea thermal vent. hot from the thermal vent, and dust from the ash it shoots... and spitters well it spits ash out of it, whaddya want me to call it?
(2) 'wide snout' refers to a Hammerhead, specifically a great hammerhead in this case.
(3) 'blue' is the least creative name I've ever come up with... referring to a blue shark.
(4) 'speeder' refers to a Mako/Bonito shark.
(5) 'serrated snout' refers to a saw shark.
(6) 'heavy-fin' refers to a Thresher shark, he is also the POV for this chapter.
(7) while many sharks can survive the pressures of the deep, the 5 named above can't survive the depths that Megatron would fall/sink to.
(8) 'twisty shark' refers to the almost eel-like shark, the Frilled shark.
(9) 'latcher' refers to a Cookie cutter shark, the tiny little devils. I was honestly contemplating removing this one, assuming it'd be basically the equivalent to wheelie, but I kept it to see where I could go with it.
(10) 'pointy-snouted shark' refers to the goblin shark... if the cookie cutter are the devils than these are... "hol' up, what's worse than a devil?", ummm... scratch cookie cutters being Devils, cookies can be Demons, goblins can be the Devils of the deep.
(11) many sharks posses a 'sixth sense' that allows them to detect slight changes in water temperature as well as electromagnetism.
(12) 'colored super-puncher' refers to a Mantis shrimp and how it is one of the few creatures who can see color, but they also see beyond the light spectrum than we can see and even further than we even know! so, I assumed sharks can't, and decided to describe purple as a color only the Mantis shrimp should be able to see.
(13) many sharks need to keep moving in order to survive, very few can stop and remain living, mentioning this shows they are no longer just sharks.
Also, this story will not include the G1 Sharkticons, y'know the ones working for the quintessons or whatever, the pirranah with legs and a spike-ball tail and a robot head inside their throats... yeah these ones are gonna be realistic, intelligent (to an extent) and unique, and they're gonna actually, y'know turn into aquatic sharks, not... bipedal murderous land pirannahs or whatever G1 had them as.
anyway, if you bothered to read this info dump... please vote on my pole on which story comes next (once i've finished some of my current ones.)
anyway, sea ya! (I know horrible pun really, I should be ashamed of myself)
