Hello! This is a rewrite of my first fanfic, Bloodbunny. I didn't like how the story flowed, and some stuff needs to be changed to fit other parts of the story. Somethings will be exactly the same, and some things will be completely different. I hope you enjoy Bloodbunny: Remastered...
Judy kicked open the door and walked into the warehouse. She looked around, taking note of her surroundings and keeping her tranq gun up and ready.
She was standing at the end of a dimly lit hallway that had doors every few feet. The hanging industrial lights flickered above, giving off a creepy vibe. At the end of the hallway was a set of double doors, like the kind you see in a hospital or school. Through the small, rectangular, windows on the doors, Judy could see some of the warehouse roof and a few dark shadows that were probably shipping containers piled on top of each other. A purple glow also illuminated the windows, telling her that this was the right place.
Judy gave out a soft whistle and heard movement behind her. Her best friend and... partner, Nick Wilde scurried into the hallway. Behind him, Judy could see the swirling white snow and neon signs of Tundra Town. Nick stood beside her and gazed at the set of doors. They began to slowly move forward, checking each room as they went so they wouldn't miss anything.
"Alright Nick, Cheif Bogo thinks this could be the last night howler lab since Tundra Town is the only place that predators are still going savage. This will be the end to 4 years of problems caused by that insane ewe." She said in a low whisper.
"I was at the briefing too, Carrots." He said jokingly, rolling his eyes.
"You were on your phone the entire time!" Judy protested.
"That doesn't mean I wasn't listening." He said, smiling.
"Nevermind," Judy huffed. "Let's just get this over with so we can go home and have a nice evening."
After a few minutes of their slow, silent, pace they reached the hospital-style doors at the end. Their faces were bathed in the purple glow of the lights used to grow the deadly Nighthowler flowers. Judy cautiously pushed the door open and slipped inside, Nick right behind her.
Sure enough right in front of them was the lab. There were 4 long tables next to each other. On the tables, in boxes that were filled with dirt, grew Nighthowlers. Above the tables sat the purple fluorescent lights, hanging from a low beam and plugged into a quiet generator. On the left side of the tables sat a tarp-covered box that was about 10x10x10 feet. On the right, however, was another table, this one filled with equipment and beakers, and a laptop. The purple liquid bubbled and shot through multiple tubes. At the end of the table, next to the laptop, sat a drip, placed right above a beaker. As Judy watched, the tube above the beaker let a single drop of Nighthowler fall into the beaker, slowly filling it. A coffee and a half-finished muffin sat on the other side of the computer.
Nick began to search for any enemies, peeking around the sides of boxes and checking behind doors. He walked over to the tarp-covered box and was about to see what was underneath when Judy called to him.
"Call in the rest of the team, Nick," Judy said. Nick nodded and took out a walkie-talkie.
"Attention, FangMayor, this is WildWilde and HippityHopps. Proceed to move in."
Judy rolled her eyes.
"You are terrible. You could just say Fangmeyer, or Wilde, or Hopps, you know that right?"
"Actually, I was born with a birth defect. Makes me not able to say anyone's last name right." Nick joked, smiling as Judy flipped him off and walked away.
Judy opened her mouth to say something, but then she spotted the computer screen. It was still unlocked and was ready to go. Judy holstered her gun and ran over to the laptop.
"Nick, stand guard while I see if there's anything on here that could incriminate Bellwether further. The longer Bellwether stays in prison, the better." Judy called over her shoulder. Nick walked over and stood behind her, gun at the ready.
Judy furiously began to type, pulling up file after file. The laptop was ram-sized, so Judy only had to reach a little bit to get to the keys. She quickly got frustrated, as nothing seemed to be coming up.
"Why is there a file named Homework on here? What would a henchman be doing homework on?"
Nick's tail flicked nervously as he glanced around the warehouse, watching and listening for any signs of danger.
"Don't click on that, Carrots." He said, still scanning the multiple crates and boxes.
"Why not?" Judy said, hovering the mouse over the folder.
"Just trust me, okay? There's nothing in there that can help us, I'll bet my badge on it."
Judy sighed and moved on. Finally, she came to the end of the long list of files.
"Wait. Here! There's a file called Plan Transfer!" Judy cried. She moved to click on the file.
Suddenly there was a screeching sound. Judy stopped and looked around.
"There!" Nick pointed. Judy followed his finger and saw that one of the warehouse's hangar-sized doors were opening, allowing a growing blade of light to enter the warehouse.
"HIDE!" She hurriedly whispered.
Nick looked around. Then he grabbed Judy's hand and dragged her behind the tarp-covered box. They both sat down and peeked around the sides of the box.
"Don't make a sound," Nick said quietly.
The screeching stopped. The building was much brighter, and a large shaft of sunlight filtered in through the new opening. They heard the hum of an engine and a crackling of gravel on tires as a vehicle pulled into the building. The engine shut off and a door slammed as whoever was there got out of the vehicle. The warehouse's rusted door started screeching closed again and as it closed with a final bang, the warehouse was once again plunged into gloom.
Nick sniffed the air. "Ram." He said, looking at Judy.
Judy nodded. Bellwethers team of rams had been the ones doing the dirty work of making predators go savage.
The sound of hooves filled the space they were in. Judy risked a peek around the side of the box. From the shadows emerged a black ram, who only had one horn. The other horn had been ripped off, giving the ram a nice thug look. Judy also saw the computer still open and with the mouse still hovering over the file.
Judy ducked back behind the box.
"Nick!" She hissed. "I left the computer open!"
Nick's eyes went wide with fear. Judy felt his tail curl around her protectively. Judy took another peek.
The ram walked around checking his beakers and tables. He had changed into a gas mask and was uprooting one of the flowers with gloves. He took the flower and carefully removed its petals, which he then dropped into a pot on the far side of the table, that had a stovetop under it. As Judy watched, A spurt of purple liquid left the pot through a tube and landed in another beaker. It continued traveling but stopped once it got to the middle. There was a loud bang, and Judy looked away. She prepared for the sound of another gunshot, but nothing happened.
"It wasn't a gunshot, Carrots." Nick, whispered. Judy returned to observing the ram. She could now see that there was some sort of laser thing pointed at the bit of purple liquid. After a few seconds, the liquid continued traveling until it reached the drip.
Judy's stomach tied itself in a knot as the ram sat down at the laptop. The thug reached for the keys when he noticed the mouse hovering over the many files. The ram froze. Judy watched as he reached down and slowly took out a pistol. The ram whirled around and Judy looked away, hoping the ram hadn't seen her. It was silent for a total count of 30.
This time, Nick peeked his head around. He looked around, but the ram was nowhere to be seen.
All of the sudden, he heard a whimper and the sound of a hammer being cocked. Nick whirled around, bringing his gun up, but quickly faltered as he saw what was happening. The ram held the pistol to Judy's head, his finger on the trigger. Nick considered trying to tranq him, but the ram seemed to read his thoughts.
"Even if you tranq me, that won't stop me from pulllin this trigger before I'm out, so don't even think about it." The ram grinned. "Drop the gun, fox."
Nick, seeing no other choice, placed the tranq gun on the ground. The ram, still keeping the pistol to Judy's head, picked it up and threw it fare into the warehouse, where it clattered and banged as it bounced off of the metal crates. The ram grabbed Judy's tranq pistol and did the same.
"Come out, now!" The ram growled.
Slowly, Nick and Judy walked out from behind the box, hands up. The ram instantly recognized Judy as she stepped into the purple light.
"You!" He spat angrily. "You're that dumb bunny that put the boss in jail."
The ram was so caught up in the fact of who Judy was, that he didn't even notice the low growl that came from Nick's throat.
Only I'm allowed to call her that. Nick thought angrily.
"I can arrange a visit for you," Nick said. "Though you may find it last quite a bit longer than you'd like."
The ram turned to him, temporarily taking the gun away from Judy's head. Before either of them could take advantage of the situation, the ram put the gun up to the edge of Nick's left ear and fired.
"Nick!" Judy cried.
Nick howled in pain as the bullet cut a hole through the thin skin. Nick fell to his knees, clutching his ear as he gasped for air. He reached up and felt the opening. There was only a little blood, like a piercing. A half-an-inch wide piercing.
The ram turned back to Judy and placed the gun against her head again. An evil smile crossed his face.
"I'm sorry I ha to do that, well, not really, but I don't like to waste bullets. But I really don't like smart Alek remarks, and just don't feel like dealing with the fox's shit."
The ram motioned to Nick.
"Help him up."
Judy bent down and supported the fox. Nick whimpered, the pain worming its way down into his skull. The ram led them over to a support beam, just a few feet away from the box. The ram grabbed a coil of rope and tied Nick to the beam, keeping the gun on Judy the entire time. Once he finished, the ram pushed Judy in the direction of the box.
"Move it." The ram said. Judy was led to the box. The ram grabbed the tarp and ripped it off revealing a large glass box with a few air holes and a door A strange contraption sat on the roof. Inside the cage was a small bat, sleeping upside down in another small glass box attached to the roof of the cage. The bat was about 3 times smaller than Finnick, Nick, and Judy's Fennec Fox friend. The ram then opened the door and shoved Judy inside.
"I've always wondered what the serum might do to prey, especially this kind."
This kind? Judy thought. Was this serum somehow different than the others?
"We needed a test subject for this anyways and now we have one." The ram told her as he walked out of the box and locked the door behind him. He walked over to the table and turned off the drip. He grabbed the beaker and walked over. Judy watched as he reached up, and pressed a button on the machine on top of the box. A tray slid out, and the ram poured the serum into it. Then he closed the tray and pressed another button. Judy saw a small door slide open right above the bat.
"This serum doesn't just make the animal go savage, but can transmit it." The ram said, grinning maniacally. "This serum can transmit through a bite. What better animal for this than a Vampire Bat? The only problem though is that as it passes, the previous bearer dies. It would also seem that you poor fellows at the ZPD haven't developed a cure for it yet."
Realization dawned on Nick and Judy at the same time. Nick started thrashing against his bonds, yelling threats.
"If you touch her I'll kill you." He growled. "You hear me? I will find you and nothing will stop me from ending your life."
The ram chuckled. Walked over to the computer and opened up a program. He typed some things in and hovered his finger over the enter button.
"Goodbye, bunny cop!" The ram crowed as he pushed the button. The small box was quickly filled with purple gas. Judy watched in horror and pressed herself against the wall. The gas dissipated after only a few seconds, revealing an already savage bat the was scratching at the glass.
Then, the ram pressed enter again. The bottom of the small box dropped open. The savage bat screamed out of it and flew around the room screeching. Then it landed in front of Judy, who was crouching in the corner. It started crawling towards her.
Nick was yelling and continued to struggle against his bonds. Tears welled up in his eyes. Then, in the blink of an eye, the bat struck, sinking his teeth right into Judy's neck. Judy cried out in pain and swatted the bat away. The bat fell off her neck and law there, twitching. After a few seconds, the bat was completely still.
"JUDY!" Nick screamed. He stopped thrashing and slumped, tears streaming from his eyes. He waited expecting the ram to kill him and then to release the feral rabbit upon Zootipa. Instead, he heard a whimper and a grunt of effort. He looked up at the box.
Judy slowly sat up, wincing in pain and holding her neck. Nick was relieved. She showed no sign of savageness.
"Ugh." The ram said disgustedly. "I never get to have any fun."
The ram picked up the pistol and started walking towards the box. Halfway there, the ground began to shake. A rhino in ZPD uniform burst through the side of the warehouse, causing the whole building to groan. The rhino rushed at the ram.
"Oh, fu-" The ram was plowed into and went flying. He slammed into the side of the warehouse and fell to the ground. Multiple other officers streamed in through the hole, taking in the scene. They cut Nick's bonds, and Nick rushed over to the cage before anyone could stop him. Nick unlocked the door. He went inside and crouched net to Judy, burying his face in her neck.
"Judy, I thought I lost you. Are you okay?" He asked her in a barely audible whisper.
"Except for a sore neck, yeah, I am," She said, smiling weakly.
"Are you sur-"
He was cut off as Judy pulled him into a hug.
"Nick, I'm fine. Okay. It was just a small bite. This kind of serum doesn't work on prey. The original did, but for some reason, this one didn't." She told him, still holding him in the hug. She pulled back and looked him in the eyes.
Nick looked at her and let out a sigh of relief.
"Next time don't mess up, okay Carrots." He teased.
Judy looked at him and blinked. For a second, Judy's eyes were a hellfire red, instead of their normal amethyst. Nick's own eyes went wide in surprise. But then she blinked again, and her eyes were back to normal. Her expression morphed from shock to mock anger.
"I messed up?!" She laughed and grabbed his tie and pulled him down raising a fist threateningly.
"I think you should take that back." She growled.
"Okay, okay, I'm sorry Carrots, I take it back," He said hands up, laughing.
"Good," Judy said. Then tugging on his tie, she pulled him down and gave him a quick kiss. "Now, let's go. I want to get this report done so we can go home and spend some time together, alright?"
"Yes, mam!" Nick said, hugging the rabbit one more time.
Wow! I already like how the story sounds so much better. Im definitely sticking with this for a while. Short stories will continue to post! I'm also gonna say this right now, there will be smut in the next chapter. Just a friendly warning. Now that I'm a bit more comfortable with writing it, I can use it like I wanted to when I first wrote the original story. I hope you guys liked this chapter! To give you some perspective, the original Chapter 1 was 1,879 words. This chapter is 3,105! This is pretty much what every chapter is going to turn into. Some chapters will be combined while some may be removed completely. As always, leave your thoughts and comments! If you have any questions, don't be afraid to leave them either, or just PM me. I try to answer the best I can. Another warning, the original Bloodbunny will no longer be recognized by me as a source of my work on Friday, 19th of February, at noon, Central Time. This means, that I won't respond to any comments made on the original. I don't want to take it down, but I'm doing this for a reason. If you want to comment on the original, post it here on the chapter it corresponds with, and just put Original at the beginning of the comment or something. Just let me know you're commenting on the old one somehow. Anyways, as always, I love you! Stay Safe! Dolphins, out!
