The Adaptation Program

It was the first day of Hogwarts and it was a normal sunny day. You couldn't tell that the course of history was going to change today.

"May I have your attention please?" Dumbledore called out to the students after breakfast when they started to leave.

The hall immediately fell silent, and everyone stopped. It wasn't everyday Dumbledore made a huge announcement.

"Everyone except the fifth years may leave the great hall." Dumbledore announced.

Everyone except the fifth years filtered out of the room.

"Now, I must announce a very important thing to all of you." Dumbledore said.

"Dumbledore says nothing important, only rubbish." Malfoy whispered to his fellow Slytherins. They all silently laughed.

"The fifth years will participate in a program called the adaptation program. In this, you will be put in groups of three."

'I hope Ron and Hermione are in my group. Imagine if I got Malfoy.' Harry thought. Ron and Hermione were thinking similar thoughts.

'I hope Harry and Hermione are in my group. What if I got a slimy Slytherin?'

'I hope Harry and Ron are with me. Or at least someone I like. Not like Malfoy.'

Meanwhile, Draco was thinking

'I hope a proper pureblood is in my group. Imagine the shame if I got a mud blood like Granger or a blood traitor like Weasley. Or heavens forbit, perfect saint Potter.'

"In this program, you will live for 2 weeks in the house of one of the group members. After that, you will get a 1-week break and then, you will go to the house of another group member. After the one-week break, you will go to the house of the last group member."

"What is the point of this?" Padma Patil asked. The same thought was in the minds of everyone else.

"You will learn to adapt to different surroundings."

"What about school?" Hermione asked, concerned about her grades.

"You will go to school. But not like a boarding school, much like a day school that muggles have. In a day school, you will come to school in the morning, do your classes, and leave in the afternoon, to your house."

This was a surprise to many.

"Now, the groups."

Professor McGonagall stepped up and started reading.

"Mandy Brocklehurst, Kevin Entwhistle and Wayne Hopkins.

Seamus Finnigan, Sally Smith and Morag MacDougal.

Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Draco Malfoy."

Many people thought that Dumbledore was crazy for placing Potter and Malfoy in the same group.

'Just my luck. I'm stuck with Malfoy. Well, at least I have Hermione.'

'It could have been worse like Ron and Malfoy. I'm glad it's Harry.'

'Potter AND Granger! What a bad day.'

None of them listened to the next groups.

"Okay! So, you are excused from classes for 2 days. Please pack you stuff. Tomorrow at 9 o'clock, the staff will take you to your first destination. Letters have been sent to your parents and guardians. Get moving." Dumbledore told them all.
