For all new readers welcome, and for those who are rereading this I'm working on fixing all the earlier chapters and adding stuff I feel will help the story.

I don't own Re:Zero, I'm just doing this for fun.

Chapter 1: Creation… or Abomination?

1000 years before the sealing of the Witch of Envy….

A researcher who desired immortality searched for the legendary Od Laguna, which was said to be in the center of the world. Finding it, he used great magic to remove a piece of it with this piece he could finally obtain immortality.

After obtaining the piece of the Od Laguna he returned to his lab, located in the outskirts of the world. The terrain was so treacherous that even the greatest of sprits would have a hard time traversing the land.

This land became his laboratory and home after 10 years of exploration, planning and building. The laboratory by itself was a fortress, but the harsh terrain made it all but impossible for anyone to break in if the researcher didn't let them in himself.

After some thought he decided to test different methods to revive the dead, reasoning that if the Od Laguna could revive the dead then it would most certainly be able to make him immortal.

He soon began to raid graveyards to collect corpses, after trial and error he made some progress by the 3rd body. Learning how to insert the Od Laguna fragment into the dead body, he used the corpses until they were unrecognizable before moving on and getting more.

He never had more than 1 body in his laboratory, not only to keep things sanitary but also to ensure all the bodies he picks are fresh. By the 8th body he managed to revive for a few moments but a dead body couldn't hope to maintain life.

The man he had revived screamed as the decomposing body ripped apart unable to hold his weight, the researcher had to kill him as a sort of apology to the experiment for reviving him to a world of pain.

The researcher now more cautious used children's bodies as a way to ensure that they couldn't cause too much damage to the lab, after more trial and error he realized that without an Od and gate the body wouldn't be able to sustain itself.

The researcher then looked into fabricating od and gate for his next subjects; by the 16th he had perfected the process.

He soon moved on to more trial and error, but on his 17th try he succeeded after tedious work of healing the body to ensure that it could sustain itself and enchanting it so the decay would stop followed by fabricating a gate and od for the child.

With a deep breath he began the ritual to rejuvenate the body followed by another ritual to create the gate and od, finally after that tedious process the body was ready.

Looking at the boy, he looked no older than 10. The researcher wondered briefly what had happened to the boy before continuing with his work inserting small portions at a time as to not overwhelm the body.

The body starts to react, at first little twitches of the fingers soon turns to breathing, the boy's face starts to scrunch up before his eyes open to a bright light.

The researcher seeing the boy wake stood ready in case he became hostile, but the boy simply looked around confused.

"Where am I? Who am I? Who are you?" The boy asked as the researcher rejoiced celebrating his success, walking away to another room.

The researcher took out some wine and prepared to celebrate, not knowing what he made was not only the first artificial spirit in history but also a spirit-human hybrid.

Said spirit hybrid looked around still confused before getting up and walking following where the researcher left, but as he walked out he found a long hall with many different paths.

The boy wandered the halls looking for answers, he progressed through several rooms exclaiming. "Wow! This place is really big!"

The researcher came back with wine only to find the boy gone, he sighed at his mistake and set out to find his creation. The laboratory was like a giant labyrinth filled with twists and turns, the researcher had made this place so only he could navigate it properly.

The researcher found the boy as the boy miraculously managed to make his way back, though he did try to enter some rooms but all were locked.

"There you are, where did you go?" The researcher asked as he ushered the little spirit boy back to the room where he was revived.

Realizing that he had no plans for this experiment besides testing his hypothesis, the researcher pondered what to do with his creation. Pondering for some time while the child kept grabbing different artifacts and looking at them with curiosity.

'Curious little one, I might have use for a servant or even a guard.' The researcher thought pouring a little wine for himself; he needed to relax after the lengthy ritual.

Finally the researcher came to a conclusion calling his creation before speaking. "Little one, I am your creator and I have finally thought of something you can do." He says smiling menacingly, "You are going to guard this place, now I shall make a contract to bind you to this place."

The researcher started another ritual that would allow him to alter the boy's od and gate, allowing him to set rules that the boy must follow.

Realizing he hadn't named the boy, he decided to name the boy. Recalling his childhood days when he still loved to stargaze.

"I shall name you Subaru after the Pleiades constellation." The researcher says taking another sip of the wine.

"Subaru? Is that my name mister?" The now named Subaru asked, now excited after finally getting an answer.

"Yes Subaru, from now on you shall refer to me as Master Victor. Do you understand?" Victor commanded.

Subaru replied with a confused look, "Yes Master Victor."

Present Day:

The market was bustling as it always was; the streets were filled with a plethora of humans, demi-humans, and ground dragons.

Along the streets was a kid wearing an orange, white and black cloak carrying his groceries. Having just bought some appa from a green-haired fruit seller, he was about to head back to his abode.

Taking a shortcut through the alleyways, the humming Subaru decided to check his coin pouch, sensing three people behind him. Looking back he saw three thugs with obvious intentions to rob him, one was buff, the other tall, and the last one was quite short.

"Excuse me misters, is there something I can help you with?" Subaru asked the thugs, acting innocent.

The thugs look at each other before looking back at Subaru and answering, "Well kid we'd like your coin pouch."

"Why would you need my coin pouch… wait are you robbing me?" Subaru asks the thugs as he pretends to just realize the situation.

The tall thug smiles and answers, "You're a smart kid aren't ya, if you are then you should just hand over the coins."

As Subaru prepares to chant a blonde girl runs into the alleyway they were in and jumps over the big thug and onto the roof shouting, "Watch out yah rats!"

With that little distraction I chanted but was once again interrupted by a silver haired elf, seemingly chasing after the blonde thief.

"I'm in a hurry but I can't ignore this, Puck!" The elf shouts revealing herself to the thugs as a cat materializes over her shouting, "Coming Lia!"

Seeing the floating cat the small the other thugs ran with one of them screaming, "It's a spirit, run it's not worth it!"

Running deeper into the shadows of the city it wasn't long until it was only me, the silver haired elf and her great spirit. 'This day just got a bit more interesting, she looks like auntie, a relative perhaps?' I thought.

"Thanks Miss Elf lady, but I didn't need the help." Subaru says fully confident in himself, this however caused the elf girl to get angry.

"Well aren't you an ungrateful child, you should be a little more thankful." Puck scolded in a fatherly tone, causing Subaru to sigh and shake his head.

"Ok, ok whatever you say Great Spirit, anyway what is your name miss?" Subaru asks.

The silver haired elf quickly answered, "My name is Satella young one." Subaru stared at the now named Satella as if she told the biggest lie of the century before shrugging.

"Well my name is Subaru, Miss Satella pleasure to meet you." Subaru greets, extending his hand for a handshake.

Shaking his hand Satella seem to prepare herself for some racial or prejudice filled response but was shocked when nothing of the sort came.

"Well Subaru, did you see a blonde thief pass by?" Satella asks looking around for the thief, Subaru thought for a moment before remembering the blonde kid jumping onto the roof.

"Yeah I did see a blonde kid running; she leapt over those thieves and me onto the roof." Subaru answered, pointing to the roof she jumped to.

Emilia looks confused while Puck scratches her head, both of them seem to be trying to find a way to get onto that roof.

The silence was starting to feel uncomfortable, to cut through the silence Subaru decided to ask, "So what did that thief take, Miss Satella?"

Satella blushes, looking away and trying to avoid the question but she could still feel his gaze on her, those wicked eyes staring into her.

"I-I lost a Royal's Insignia, and I still haven't heard a thank you little one." Satella stuttered as she tried to change the topic of conversation.

"You… Haha… lost… a Royal's… Haha… Insignia, Haha!" Subaru laughed as Satella's blush becomes redder and she walks away to escape the embarrassment.

Seeing her walk away Subaru stops his laughter and answers, "W-wait, the girl you're looking for… let me help you find her. In fact let's start on the roof she jumped to El-Murak."

Satella was surprised as the spell made Subaru and her weightless and they floated up to the roof, even Puck was stunned silent.

Arriving at the roof Satella surprised and amazed said, "Whoa… you weren't lying when you said you didn't need help. You're a really good magic user for your age if you can already use El class magic."

To be continued…
