I sat beside the black lake, watching her, quietly swimming around, her long red hair captivating me as she tossed it back and laughed at something one of her friends was saying. She never told me her name, she said I could call her anything I wanted. I had laughed at the time, but something inside me ached to know her, to be beside her, to taste her sweet kiss.
We might be from different worlds, but at the lakes edge our worlds collide. She splashed me flirtatiously, egging me on to jump, to let the all consuming blackness threaten me just for a moment to be closer to her. To be with her. I knew I was meant to be cold, to not let her reach me, but her ruby lips curled into a smile as she looked at me, I cast a spell, trying to dry the water off my robes.
"Come swim with me," Ginny said, her voice sounding melodious to my ears.
"I don't belong in your world," I said, hoping I kept my face neutral. She couldn't know she affected me, she couldn't know my longing.
"My world, your world," Ginny laughed. "It's all the same, isn't it?" her crimson tail was fleetingly visible above the water, and I felt my heart lurch.
"Is it?"
I could see my blond hair, my silvery eyes reflected in her hazel eyes. Could it be that she knew me, that she was right? Could we be more alike than we know? I was enchanted, I moved slowly but with purpose, removing my cloak, letting it fall to the ground, the swish of material as the wind caught it for a second, the black cloth looked like a flying bat in the darkness.
I took another step closer, and she smiled. "Only a few more steps," Ginny encouraged me. Soon I'll taste the nectar of her kiss. She beckoned me towards her with her index finger, her blood red fingernails in stark contrast against her fair skin.
I took another step, expecting to drop into the cold water when strong arms pulled me back. I fought it for a couple seconds, then relaxed, recognizing the strong grip of Crabbe and Goyle stopped my fall.
"What did you do that for?" I yelled, outraged at being kept from the lady of the lake.
"She was going to drown you, Draco," Crabbe said. "You know what she is, don't you?"
I nodded slowly, my reasoning returning, my face turning paler as I watched the vision swim away. I was almost tricked by her, and yet inside I still yearn for her sweet seduction.
"Keep me away from the lake," I stammered, trying to keep cool. I fought with my self preservation and lost, the only chance I had was my friends keeping me from the redhead who would hauntingly taunt my visions from that day on.
"Of course," Goyle added, picking up my slightly wet cloak and handing it over to me.
