Chapter 21
I'm gonna be honest I started this as a fun thing during lockdown and thought I would be finished writing this like 6 months ago, since I'm on break expect more updates, but the end is near. Thanks for reading, let me know what you think.
Artemis was getting ready for work in William's bathroom admiring her blue-green towels. She'd had breakfast with Zatanna, Racquel, and M'gann yesterday. It was nice to see everyone putting words into actions to make time for each other.
"Hey Artemis, you ready?" William called from the living room.
"Ready."
William was standing in the living room looking nervous. Today was the day he got a vasectomy. Artemis had taken the afternoon off to take him to the appointment. "You seem nervous."
"The idea of a stranger seeing me unconscious is not the most relaxing."
"Fair," Artemis replied, "I know you are already nervous, but I want to say one more time, if you are doing this just for me, you don't have to, it is your decision-"
"Artemis, Artemis, this is the right decision. You brought up stuff I had been avoiding thinking about, and my mom pushed me to see what having kids in my family would look like. Children are complicated no matter who I am involved with. You made me see my future as a reality and I want my future with you." William hugged her and kissed her hair.
"You're the one getting a minor surgery, I feel like I should be comforting you, not the other way around."
"You're right," William said releasing her and standing back, "but I will take my comfort after the surgery in the form of cuddles and tea. I think the crazy part is that you still have to have protected sex for 3 months after and do a bunch of checkups for a year. I always thought it was like a 6 week wait then you were good."
Artemis laughed as they headed for the door, "I wonder how many people have gotten in trouble thinking that same thing?"
William chuckled and headed for the car.
Before William left work his boss stopped by his office. "Heard you were getting the snip. Aren't you a little young for that?"
William paused in his work, rather confused as to why this man who had shown little interest in his personal life was butting in now. "Yes, I am getting a vasectomy. No I don't think I'm too young for it. Why do you ask?"
"Just surprised is all. You are really good with my grandkids, I figured you were interested in having your own."
William smiled at that. His boss did have cute grandkids. "I just don't think my own kids are in my future."
His boss shrugged, "Just curious. I'm glad people know what they want and go for it. Good for you. Enjoy the loopy gas."
William shook his head at the old man and began gathering his things. It was time to head out.
That evening as William dozed and Artemis made tea, he was content and excited about his future. He had one less variable to think about and he felt a new footing and stability taking place in his life. When Artemis gave him his tea and sat beside him, his world felt right.
William had been asleep for a while, so Artemis went to the kitchen to wash dishes. There she found an old not-so-friend.
"Hello, Cameron."
