Aaron's day hasn't been as busy as usual, and he was torn between being grateful for it or keeping silent in case he jinxes it. Either way, he was walking home from his office job towards the bus station because that's how it always went for him. Wake up at 7, shower, clean face and teeth, eat breakfast, go to bus station, arrive to work at 8, work till lunch, hang out with co-workers (as unbearable as that was for him), work till 5 then go home on the bus again.

Any normal person would probably go nuts from routine, but Aaron was different. He actually found solace in routine because he knows what to do. No surprises, no risk of getting anxious and messing up.

But still, a small part of him sometimes wondered...what would a change feels like?

But he always silenced that part.

Well, the only thing that was actually different today didn't specifically happen to him, but to the overall workplace. The boss gathered them and announced that they would be having a new worker come in soon. No more information was disclosed.

Aaron merely shrugged at the announcement. This doesn't sound really bothersome, unless this new person is incompetent. However, that was unlikely as the boss was very serious about the way workers handle themselves and their tasks. There is no possible way this new person would be incompetent.

Now that all that thinking is out of the way, Aaron found himself nearing the bus stop after making a turn. He smiled subtly to himself, already planning his peaceful evening with tea drinking and watching some TV. Once again, that is what he usually does after a long day at work, unless he had a workload assigned the next day that he had to deal with. In which case, his peaceful evening is ruined. But that wasn't the case today.

As he walked towards the bus station, he heard a groan of pain behind him, followed by the bus pulling up. Now despite what you might think of Aaron at first glance or what he might tell you himself, he's actually a very kind soul that has an instinct to help others when they need it. So that instinct made him forget about the bus and instead turn around to the source of the groan.

Near a street sign at the turn he just made, Aaron saw a short woman with dark brown hair and a pale complexion. She had her eyes closed and she was rubbing her forehead with one hand, the other holding some files. He made his way over to her.

"Uh, excuse me, miss. Are you okay?"

Up close, the woman didn't look too far from his own age. She was definitely shorter than him, though. At his voice, she opened her eyes in surprise and looked up at him. Her eyes were the same color as her hair, dark brown.

"Oh, hello mister. Yes, I am fine. I just accidentally ran into this sign because I was in a rush. Tomorrow is my first day at my new job". She smiled sweetly at him, revealing a white set of teeth that added to her beauty.

"Ah, I see. I understand. That happened to me quite a few times before, though I never ran into any street signs". He allowed himself to slightly tease her.

The woman laughed despite herself, and Aaron continued.

"I see you have important files here. What kind of job do you have?"

Aaron thought this was weird. He never strikes up conversations with strangers ever. Yet...this girl was somewhat endearing so maybe that's why.

"Oh, you know. Your typical office job". She slightly rolled her eyes and laughed again.

"Fun. I know what you mean, I'm also an office worker". Aaron started to feel strange again...

"Oh really? That makes me feel slightly less embarrassing about this career choice". She teased him.

Aaron took a closer look at the files she was holding. They were familiar, and that could only mean one thing.

"Miss, I think you're the new employee my boss told us about today"

The woman's eyes shot up in shock at the sudden revelation. It looked like she was asking him how he would come to this conclusion silently.

"Your files are the same ones I got when I first got my job. Not to mention the workplace's name on them"

"Ah, of course. I apologize for my stance there"

"No need to apologize. Since we are going to be co-workers, I'd like to know you better- I mean...know your name". Aaron shook his head at the words he just spoke. What's happening to him?

"My name is Elizabeth Schuyler, but everyone calls him Eliza, and you may as well". Eliza told him.

"That's a nice name, and thank you for allowing me to be so informal, miss Eliza. I'm mister Aaron Burr, you may call me Aaron as well"

That would be a first. No one really called him by his real name, except his family.

"It's a pleasure to meet you so incidentally, Aaron. Are you sure you weren't stalking me?" Eliza giggled.

Aaron felt his face heat up. She was joking, but it made him heat up.

"N-no, I must say, it is very coincidental that you ran into that sign just when I was about to board the bus home"

Eliza frowned after he said this and started speaking with a worried tone. "Oh no, did I make you miss the bus? I'm terribly sorry, Aaron"

"No worries, miss Eliza. It's a change from what I'm used to but I'm enduring the long walk home because I wanted to check on your well-being, so it was worth it". Aaron smiled at her, more than he usually does to anyone, or to himself.

It was Eliza's turn to blush, and hide her face.

"Oh, I see...Thank you, Aaron. You're very kind. But please, let me be as kind and walk you home. It's the least I could do"

"You said you were in a rush for tomorrow. I won't allow myself to possibly cause you to be late on your first day and make a bad first impression"

Eliza smiled and looked up at him.

"Well, I would be at risk of that because I ensured you arrived home safely so that would be worth it"

Aaron's eyes widened at her ability to turn his words against him, albeit in a benevolent way. His own blush was also back.

"Besides, I already made a good impression on you, and that's enough for me"

Aaron gathered himself and smiled.

"Very well then, let us be on our way"

The next move that Eliza made was out of the ordinary and nothing Aaron ever had with anyone else before. She wrapped her arm around his as if they had known each other for years. It almost made him regret this but thankfully, Eliza saved the situation herself.

"Are you alright with this, Aaron? I just picked up this habit from my mother, apparently"

Despite almost feeling regret seconds before, Aaron nodded and assured her it was alright.

The walk was silent. Anyone would passed by probably assumed they were a couple.

Not that I'm against that possibility...

Woah! Now that was definitely something new. Come to think of it, Aaron never had a relationship before...What about Eliza?

"Miss Eliza?"

"Yes, Aaron?" She turned to face him with a smile.

"Have you ever had a relationship before?"

"No, I have not. What about you?"

Aaron felt shy and looked aside.

"Me neither..."

Eliza laughed at his shyness.

"Why do you inquire about that?"

"N-nothing! Just...just a random question..."

"If you say so, Mister Burr"

He could sense the cheekiness behind that line, and it made him smile. Then he remembered something else.

"By the way, I noticed that you are to work in the same department as me"

"Ah yes, it's another wonderful coincidence, isn't it?" Eliza beamed.

Aaron wondered what she means by that, but nods anyways.

It went quiet again. And after a while, they made it.

"Wow, that didn't feel like a long walk at all" Aaron remarked.

"Yes, I would've imagined it would take longer than that. I guess Mister Burr is ironically bad at estimates" Eliza teased him again, chuckling.

Aaron huffed uncharacteristically and crossed his arms.

"It's your fault for keeping me good company"

"At least now your job won't be as boring and redundant once I come in tomorrow"

"I sure hope so, miss Eliza. Thank you again for walking me. It was very nice to meet you"

"You too, Aaron. I will see you tomorrow morning" Eliza started waving as she left.

Aaron watched her with a smile until she was out of his view.

Now he realizes that maybe he should've listened to that small part of him. That small part that told him he needed a change, because he didn't get scared nor anxious. He didn't mess anything up, he didn't make any mistakes.

He felt...happy. And thrilled. Something changed inside him and in his life.

Now he has something new to look forward to everyday.
